This is a local's favorite spot and a great find. It's a family-friendly place. The staff was awesome and friendly. I liked the place. I found it cool. The beautiful paintings on the walls added a nice charm. I had the onion rings. They were crispy, tasty, and good. I tasted my friend's burger. It was delicious. I would order it. Four stars. After wandering around Salem for a while, Witchside Tavern ended up being exactly what we were looking for. The place is bright, clean, and has a modern aesthetic without feeling like it was designed solely for Instagram. It just feels comfortable. The staff were friendly from the start and made us feel welcome, which goes a long way. I ordered the Cali Smash burger, and it was a winner. The ingredients actually tasted fresh, especially the avocado, and I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the fried egg, but it worked surprisingly well. Add the Witchside sauce and everything came together better than I expected. It was also big enough that I eventually gave up trying to eat it like a civilized human being and finished it with a fork. No shame. Both of my kids ordered the fried shrimp platters and absolutely demolished them. That's usually the best review you're going to get from kids. Not a single complaint, no leftovers, and they were still talking about how good the shrimp was afterward. The menu has plenty of options, the food came out fresh, and the whole place has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Salem has no shortage of places competing for your attention, but Witchside Tavern is one I'd happily come back to. Needed a nice ice cold drink after walking around in the heat in Salem! Stumbled upon this restaurant and it only seemed fitting. We were sat immediately and the vibes were instantaneous! Music was amazing. 2000s pop was jamming and my friend and I instantly started jamming out and dancing. Ordered some calamari, a chicken quesadilla, margarita. Calamari was good, not the best but not bad either. Chicken quesadilla was delicious, very flavorful and actually a big quesadilla. My friend and I decided to order their $5 mystery shots. It tasted like one of those caramel hard candies. Not bad for $5. Plenty of seating and all employees were super friendly and efficient. The food was good, BUT... We had a large group of folks that had preordered their food from a pared down menu. When we arrived, they didn't do a great job of getting each person what they'd ordered. Some of us never got our dessert, even though it had been paid for. It's ok. The ambience is if a sports pub decided to have more witchy themes and every TV played something other than sports. The good? Service was quick, friendly and our waters never went without being filled quickly and our finished plates were cleared in an extremely timely manner. Since it's Halloween season, there was a line when we arrived, but the wait for our group of four was only about 20 minutes. I highly recommend this place. The minute we sat down, we were warmly welcomed by Julie the bartender. We never went thirsty, and the food was delicious. They have a small seating area outside but it was too hot this day so we ate inside. The a/c felt good after going through many shops that didn't seem to have theirs on despite almost 90° day. The food was presented well, looked and tasted great. My friend got the Caesar wrap and fries, and was pleased. I sampled her fries - crispy and seasoned. My salad was delicious, could've used a tad more dressing but that's on me for not asking. Watch out for the olives, too, they weren't pitted. The Witchside tavern accepted my reservation weeks in advance and it was honored when my party of 10 arrived. That was the best part of the Witchside. The food and service were ok. We went to Salem in September on a Saturday and apparently that town is a complete and total mess. There was nowhere at all to park - and downtown was closed off for a festival of some sort. I dropped my party off while I drove around forever to park- and when I finally did arrive the food was just arriving for the party 30 minutes after being seated. Food was good. Service slow. I'd probably try other places and rotate this place in if I go to Salem again. read more
