Was there Saturday afternoon. I ordered the fish and chips. It was so good. It' has a nice atmosphere and the service was very nice.

Came to Salem today to be amongst all the crazies for Halloween. We did a search and came across the Mercy Tavern. We stood outside in line for about 25 minutes the hostess greeted us and was very organized and was able to sit all seven of us at a table inside. We were greeted almost right away by our waitress who took care of us in a timely manner she was fantastic I never got her name though. The food was fantastic and the staff did a great job considering the amount of people that they were serving they kept right on top of it. Awesome job! We will be back! read more

We were starving when we arrived and I think we arrived at the perfect time. The place was already pretty packed at 4 pm on a Friday. The drinks were outstanding, and so was the food. There was a band playing. Lots of locals(which always a great sign). A very laidback place, fast service and great food. Nothing more to ask for. Will be back the next time I visit Salem. read more

Wow! Great spot in Salem! The fish and chips were among the best we have ever had! We will be trying to make another stop in before the end of our trip. I had the ribs with Carolina BBQ sauce, and they were so dang good they made me emotional. Surprisingly, my daughter's (kids) Mac and cheese was so good, we were openly stealing from her plate by the end of the meal. The sauce was obviously hand made. Just moved to Salem and this is a hidden gem. The food is amazing! I am obsessed with the mercy burger and Mac & cheese. It has great drink options and the staff is extremely friendly. It does get packed on the weekends and some nights, so I would work in some wait time or call ahead. read more

Our server was a very cool young lady who was friendly, funny, conversational, informative and just a joy to take care of us. Got a bunch of water and soda. Small but clean washrooms. THE FOOD: I ordered the New England Clam Chowder, with bacon and chives. This was nice. Subtle clam flavor, creamy, and tasty. Forgot about my lactose intolerance, at least for awhile. My companion had the French Onion soup. Although I only got the loose leftovers on the bottom, the sweet onion flavor and deep broth sabor was awesome. I totally should have gotten this. My main dish I ordered was the Better than Albuquerque Green Chile Cheeseburger: double patty with roasted green chiles, pickled jalapenos,lettuce, chile con queso - $13. Totally worth it. A little messy to eat as a burger.. but I cut it up to get all the flavor ingredients in every bite. I loved it. Spicy heat, tasty flavor, good meat... Fries were great, too. My friend had the Cobb Salad: Bibb lettuce, egg, avocado, tom, red onion, bacon and house made bleu cheese dressing - $11. She said it was incredible. BEST meal of my whole trip!! After going to the light house, we decided to find dinner and came across this place on Yelp. I'm so glad we found this place. The service was great! Our waitress was so sweet and she gave us suggestions on what to order. We quickly got our food and I cleaned my plate. I order the Steak Tips that were marinated to perfection with garlic fries and side salad that she was able to upgrade to a Caesar salad. $20 was a little pricey for feeling like we were in a bar-restaurant but because it was so good I couldn't even complain! My cousin had some kind of shrimp with fettuccine noodles. She said it was outstanding. We were so full and wish we were in Salem one more day just to go back and order something else. read more

I sat at the bar for a quick lunch. The waitress/bartender was serving the whole room, but she came over quickly. I asked for a menu right away and ordered a havarti grilled cheese and avocado with egg. Mind you, the fried egg was on top which I didn't expect. I had to eat carefully! It was tasty though. My partner's burger was really good and had a double patty. No wait to get a table either. Service was great! Drink was good too. Delicious food and fast service! The only reason why this place isn't getting 5 stars is because their cocktails are premade so I couldn't get what I wanted made without honey. I am a vegan and there were several menu options to choose from. I got the hummus plate with roasted garlic hummus that was clearly made in house, house made pickles, pickled onions and pita. It was the best hummus I have ever had and would literally go back just for that. I also got the impossible burger with garlic fries which were delicious. The server was so friendly and the food came out fast and piping hot. I was very surprised by the quality of food given the super casual bar atmosphere. As I ordered my meal I made some alterations to the order. The server Christine V. said she was not going to make those alterations because she thought it was, in her words, "disgusting". Personally, I believe that was extremely unprofessional and unnecessary. You work in a high tourist area and are going to hear different alterations to peoples orders. I've been here twice and absolutely loved it both times! To give you an idea how much... I remembered this place from coming here once over 10yrs ago! I'm not sure if it was the same name back then or not ( I assume it was but I couldn't remember it.). I literally walked around Salem until I found what I remembered as the amazing little tavern by the water I'd been to once lol Ok so getting into why this place is so great... Although it is small it seems like there is always just enough room for everyone who filters in and out. I was there for over an hour at the bar with my SO and watched as people came and went. The service is great! Attentive, informative and were well depositioned. The drinks were TOP NOTCH and yummy! The food was the same! I thought I'd found the best burger I would ever have before this place but I was proven wrong! The Mercy burger is out of this world good. So was the pumpkin ravioli my SO got. We were in Salem for one day & night. We stayed at The Daniels House (also a great experience) & popped into the Mercy Tavern on our way out of town.
