Bride got Toasted Almond Coconut sorbetto and Brown Butter Cookie dough gelato. Of course, we both tasted each other's, and they were all amazing. Doubles are $5.35 each (add $1.50 for a homemade waffle cone, which we skipped). I wondered streets and alleyways in search of a pour over, Americano, and of course a bag (or three) of beans to take home. And in doing so I stumbled upon Chestnut. At that time they were next door to Magpie (which was where I was headed) so I popped in. Chemex in use, beans being stirred in the back (part of the roasting process), and an aroma that feels like a warm blanket to my soul. Since that first visit they have moved over to Liberty Mercantile (across the street and in the basement) and expanded their space. But their quality remains top notch. I say that on behalf of their pour overs, espresso, and lattes. And beside it, their customer service. Always a smiling face and willingness to chat about all things Harrisonburg. I went there with the intention of looking for some fresh-roasted beans to take home to use in my recently purchased espresso machine. What I found is a simple, yet perfectly curated coffee shop with very knowledgeable employees who just love coffee! I got a great recommendation on a Mexican blend, which was only roasted a few days before my purchase. They were even actively roasting beans when we were there! I decided to get a freshly made latte while I was there for the ride home, and needless to say, the coffee was absolutely phenomenal! Based on that, we feel we can give feedback, and would consider going back to Coffee Hound for another type of drink. We went Sunday, June 14th after noon. There was a gentleman and a young lady that wore a hoodie with a hat. She seemed unhappy the second we walked in. She made a severely diluted, watery Matcha. When my wife pointed it out, the barista insisted it was because of the brand of Almond Milk. (Yet, my wife gets Matchas with Almond Milk everyday - and they are NOT watery!) She didn't offer to remake it, didn't offer to make it thicker. Nothing. We ended up getting another Matcha from another coffee shop and DUMPED (wasted our money on) Coffee Hounds almost $10 Matcha (including tip). My wife tried to drink the watery matcha but I just couldn't take it. We stopped at another coffee shop, and got her a Matcha from somewhere that knows what a Matcha is and how to make it. Maybe next time Coffee Hound will teach their employees better customer service and how to make quality Matchas for their prices! Or getter "better" Almond Milk.

A slight crunch on the outside due to the sugar with moist, tangy lemon goodness in the middle. SO GOOD! The star of my visit though was the Cold Fashioned cold brew. I had never heard of this and knew I had to try it. Made with house-made cold brew, a couple dashes of bitters, a splash of maple syrup, (and I added a splash of almond milk!), it was smooth, slightly sweet, and very refreshing. Nothing like I have ever had before! It is a seasonal item so I suggest you get down to Broad Porch Coffee ASAP to try!
