This review is based solely on my sales experience with the company.
Please be advised, I did not end up using Merit Moving because I've had a previous bad experience with a different company and after seeing the countless bad reviews for THIS company, my fiancé and I decided to go with someone else.
I was contacted by Merit Moving after putting in a request online for a quote from a moving company. Blake of Merit Moving in FL (not to be confused with Merit Moving Systems, which is a different company), a Senior Consultant, responded to my request quickly.
During our lengthy phone conversation, I conveyed my concerns to Blake, concerns that included the countless bad company reviews that talk about damaged items, not meeting pickup/drop off deadlines, price changes at the last minute (bait & switch tactics), etc.
Instead of taking accountability, Blake went on to blame... get this... the customers. I was extremely uneasy about his response and thought it was incredulous that he'd expect me to believe that 95% of the company's customers were lying.
I was eventually sent a quote which I, admittedly, didn't respond to. After seeing some missed calls, I eventually gave Blake a courtesy call (which I definitely didn't need to) to let him know that we'd decided to use a different company and thanked him for his time. He, seeming annoyed, asked me why I'd made the decision I had, and I respectfully mentioned that I was uncomfortable with all of the bad reviews and the fact that the company doesn't do in-home estimates (which are recommended). Blake again blamed the customers for providing inaccurate information regarding how many items they intended to move. He then went on to say that if we're choosing to go with a company that has better reviews, they're probably fake reviews because, according to him, "no moving
company has high ratings", and proceeded to give me other reasons why I was making the wrong decision .
Advice to the company...
1- Don't badmouth your customers, especially when trying to *sell* your services to a potential new client
2- Don't badmouth your better rated competition. Instead, try to make things right with those who've left you bad reviews. You owe it to them.
3- Stop using sleazy sales tactics. Many of us can smell them from a mile away.
4- And finally, if someone gives you the courtesy of a phone call to let you know they won't be moving forward with your company, which they didn't have to do in the first place & when they could've simply ignored you, don't get defensive. The defensiveness just confirms the customer's decision... read more
