I reached out to Ed - not because I wanted a personal trainer, but because I wanted someone who takes a holistic approach to health and movement. Ed's approach goes beyond what I've experienced from other trainers. His strength training programs are efficient and KILLER - I saw more results in a couple months vs the couple years I've been training by myself. More importantly, I felt confident that the exercises were safe and did not exacerbate my injuries! Ed's advice also extends to nutrition and postural restoration (e.g., proper breathing techniques). I find the latter to be CRUCIAL. Stress and tension impact our nervous system and the way that we carry ourselves. After my physical therapy sessions ended, I started searching for an adaptive fitness trainer who could help me continue my recovery. Thank God I found Melissa! One of the biggest blessings is that she offers house calls. Because of my injury, getting to a gym can be challenging, so having her come to my home has made all the difference. I've completed two sessions so far, and I'm already noticing improved mobility in my left foot. Melissa is knowledgeable, patient, and incredibly motivating. She genuinely gives me hope that I can continue making progress. I highly recommend her to anyone recovering from an injury or looking for a compassionate trainer who truly cares about her clients.

    This is a letter of recommendation for Melissa Crown, certified physical trainer. In short, I call…read moreher a "miracle worker" when it comes to my physical well-being. Her specialty is seniors' physical fitness. I am now going on 75 years-old, and I have been working with Melissa for 10 years, since January 2016. I have found these "senior" years both enjoyable and incredibly beneficial. Prior to working independently with Melissa, I worked for three years with a certified trainer at Equinox. And due to various sports injuries and surgeries, I have worked with a several different physical therapists. Melissa has done more for my flexibility, balance, strength, and recovery than any of the physical therapists or previous physical trainers I have used. In my early 60's, I was told that I was a candidate for knee replacement. Through stretching, strengthening, and flexibility exercises that Melissa prescribed, I was able to postpone the surgery until I was 71, and enjoy my active lifestyle. When it came time for the surgery, she helped me prepare for and recover from knee replacement surgery. My doctors and therapists were amazed at how quickly I recovered, at 71 years old! In just a few short weeks I was up and down stairs and riding my bike! With the new knee she is very careful, working gently on flexibility, strength, and stretching. At 69 years old I was diagnosed with a torn left rotator cuff, and the doctor recommended surgery with about a 9-month recovery period. He suggested that I prepare for surgery with "shoulder strengthening" exercises. When I asked him what specific exercises, and he said, "Ask your trainer, she will know." I did, and she did know. Today, without surgery, I have complete range of motion in the shoulder, and it is nearly as strong as the other one. Of course I canceled my surgery, and my doctor was amazed! Melissa understands that I don't want or need to be "Charles Atlas." But I do want to enjoy a relatively pain-free, active lifestyle without fatigue that often plagues our senior years. I'm talking yard work, kayaking, golfing, biking, hiking, or just playing catch with the grandchildren. Melissa does NOT take a "drill sergeant" approach to exercise but uses encouragement and positive reinforcement. I often find myself saying, "I can do more!" She will often say, "I don't want you hurt yourself." Or "We can do more later if you want." She has an uncanny knack of knowing just what stretch or exercise I need to alleviate any nagging pain or discomfort. Under Melissa's tutelage, I can now touch my toes, get in and out of a kayak, and ride my bike 50+ miles without cramping. I hope your experiences with Melissa parallels mine.
