Time to go back to work and I needed a new liquid makeup. It wasn't worth going to the mall and Sephora can be overwhelming, so I walked down the street to Merle Norman. Although I hadn't been here for like 20 years, they still had my address, phone # and previous shopping history. That in itself is impressive. After giving her an idea of what I was after, Kim walked me through a couple of options and put on two of the items. I like the sheer defense tinted moisturizer because I was looking for light coverage. She was great and gave me some samples. That small tube was @$40 by the time tax was added. I've been to Merle Norman a few times over the years, but I'm certainly not a reliable client. Yet, every time I go in, I'm treated like a valued client. I loved going here for my birthday to get a color/product make over and the promotional products with purchase have often lead me to future purchases. They keep track of your product history as well as life events. I highly suggest a consultation session and you will easily want to purchase a couple items. The Merle Norman store in Thousand Oaks, closed down approximately two years ago and I was lucky enough to discover the Montrose Merle Norman's. Every single salesperson that I have dealt with over the phone, has been extremely helpful, kind, and professional. The staff truly treat you like a good friend. Although I have never visited the store in person, whatever questions I have about a product is answered thoroughly, on the phone. I recently asked Anne some questions over the phone about different red lipsticks and she included samples for me with my night cream purchase. I have been very loyal to Merle Norman cosmetics for over ten years now. This cute little shop is located in between Montrose Travel and Panache on Honolulu Ave in Montrose. There is a small parking lot in the back with a few spots. You can enter the store through the back, just be sure to knock a few times on the closed door. The staff is always very friendly and attentive. Kim and Kris are sure to put a smile on my face every time I visit M.N. If you are looking for the perfect foundation for your skin, you need to try M.N.'s ultra powder foundation. I admit to trying a few other brands from various stores, both expensive and thrifty, but none of them have ever come close to the beautiful appearance of this powder on the face. My bf recently bought me the liquid shimmer cream to try out during the summer season.... OMG ! Amazing. Mixing a little shimmer cream with tinted moisturizer provides the perfect blend of warm tones for summer. If you're looking for flawless lashes, try out their wicked lash mascara. It gives lashes a thick look, and never clumps. I wanted to keep my favorite product a secret, but I guess I'll reveal this one ... one of Merle Norman's signature fragrances, called "Hussy" is hands down my favorite scent ever. Every time I wear Hussy I get compliments on the incredible smell. I highly recommend purchasing the fragrance box, which includes a bottle of perfume, roller, and lotion. It has followed me with my "maturity" (or age if you word it differently) and all my skin changes. I love the foundation! I am here specifically to give a shout out to my girl, Nancy. I swung in with a distracted air in a July midweek to rebuy my brow pencil. I also had done my homework and knew which other products I wanted to see or try. Nancy was available and accessible, and was so diplomatic when our opinions differed. I was curious about the brown eye shadow -- from the 70's, y'all -- which is STILL in stock -- for a reason, y'all. When it was too warm for me, Nancy said the smartest thing: "What attracts you to this shadow?" I didn't hesitate: "Laziness." This was good information for her -- it suggests I will not lean towards the lash or shadow primer, for example -- and she ran with it. There were items I wanted but didn't want to pay the price; $75 for an oz of lovely "dry oil" but the oils in it aren't hard to find or buy or mix at home. It's definitely a luxury item. She nodded and said "Okay," without pressing. Same with the cult favorite "Lava" eye shadow -- beautiful, but too shimmery for me. "Okay." But I'm totally into the Buff shadow (which Nancy found for me, and I bought) and the powder foundation (which Nancy matched me to, despite my thinking to go lighter; she was right) and the eye liner pencil that she made sure I was okay with sharpening. Because we both now know I am lazy. Listen. I live in New York City. Two blocks from a Sephora. Twice a year I come to L.A. and I always stop at this MN studio to see what's new and what I need. I am a regular customer and I love all the ladies at merle norman, so it was a no brainer when it came time to pick someone to do makeup for my wedding. My wedding was Sunday June 10, 2012 and the ladies opened up special so that 11 of us (bridal party & family) could all have our makeup done for the wedding. They did a beautiful job on all of us- we all stayed fresh and lovely looking the whole evening. Chris did my bridal makeup and she was SO helpful and attentive. We did two makeup trials before the day of and when it was the wedding day she made me look just like I had always envisioned on my wedding day. Thank you ladies! I have been getting makeup from Merle Norman in Montrose since I started wearing makeup. Kim and Kris are fantastic They did my makeup for my prom almost 10 years ago, as well as did a trial run for my wedding recently. (Wedding was out of town, so having them do it would have been impossible.) I am not extremely skilled when it comes to make up application and tend to not wear a tons of makeup everyday. They have always been able to help me find things that would be easy for me to apply. Anytime I have questions about anything, they always take time to make sure I get them answered. They will take care of any of your skin care needs and make you look great in the process! I visited this store last week in search of a good under-eye concealer. The lady who served me was excellent, she searched for an applicator similar to the one that would actually come in the tube so that I would know exactly what to expect when I got home and tried it out for myself. I don't think I've ever had that type of attention to detail at a department store, there they have access to a wide range of specialty brushes which they use to apply their products, that don't come with the product you purchase so when you get home and try it you have to use a different method of application which can totally change how the makeup looks. So I really appreciated her attention to that detail. After visiting the store I read online that Merle Norman was marketed to an older client base, i.e. women in their fifties and older (I'm in my early forties), but in the store the makeup and other products looked really good, fresh, and not 'old' at all. The under-eye concealer I got ($24 approx.) conceals the blue-ish tones around the inside of my eye and the blu-ish colouring under also. I apply my foundation over this and I could honestly see a big difference. The lady also gave me a sample of an eye-cream with SPF15. It's really, really, good and lets the concealer glide on and stay put all day. I'll definitely go back to get a jar of that and try out more of their products. read more

Today when I went to my favorite MN studio to purchase "Total Finish Compact Make-up"...much to my displeasure, I see you have reduced the amount of product from .80 oz to .55oz and raised the price almost $5.00. I've been a customer for 2 decades. I have my favorite Merle Norman cosmetics and I usually just pop in and pick them up. I'm always happy and the service is warm and efficient. My skin seemed to be changing and the foundation wasn't looking as I wanted. For the first time ever I asked Kris to do my makeup - made an appointment. She was SO helpful, and the result was great - she had done her homework. Kris suggested a new foundation color, and used a primer that successfully covered my rosacia. I picked up a few pointers on other things too. She did not oversell products - in fact the opposite - I was able to exchange a compact of the old color I had recently purchased for the new.
