So beware and check the weather before going and dress accordingly. It's nice on sunny days but then you have to be mindful of the UV. I appreciate our waitress getting our drinks and food out to us through the chaos of people being seated outside, then being reseated inside when room opened up, or like one table, just leaving! Their plum sake is very good, smooth and light. I also got a hot tea but that was only hot for a moment out there, the sake definitely did more to keep us warm. Their ramen bowls are now my favorite in downtown, the pork is DELICIOUS, the broth could be a drink on its own and the marinated egg has a perfectly soft yolk; it's a very pretty dish. My favorite sushi is split between the Russian roulette and the ocean queen (I think that's its name).

Craftsmanship and attention to detail are central to Sushi and Japanese cuisine, none of which I could find in what I was served. We ordered: salmon lover roll, vegetable tempura, and chicken katsu. - salmon lover roll was not notable, bland, almost too sweet. It came with the smallest blob of wasabi and two slices of ginger (one which was very long for some reason). - vegetable tempura was serviceable, if you mess this up you get 0 stars. - chicken katsu is the star of this abysmal show though. I was served two cut up chicken katsu slices. The presentation was horrible. Loosely strewn about the plate over some cut up veg and a fork on the side of the plate. For an $18 chicken katsu entree, no rice is criminal. This entree comes with miso soup which was served in a small bowl half full. Service was slow, took them 40 min to get the food out and the tempura came after the roll. On a positive note they took our card quick, the atmosphere was cool and the bathrooms clean.

I'm hoping this helps another vegan out there, or anyone really. We came in for an early ish dinner. At the time it was pretty mellow but that was appreciated because we just needed to relax and enjoy sitting down after hiking the last few days. Something fresh and not too rich where we could take out time and not feel gross. I was curious about the soul options being vegan or not because miso usually isn't, but they had this yummy sounding mushroom and veggie broth soup with vegetables and tofu (I think it's called Kenshin jiru but I might be absolutely butchering that). GET IT! It's not too heavy but has such a great flavor, plus the fresh veggies and bits of raw tofu for protein (they accidentally forgot the tofu but when I asked my server if they could just bring it on the side for me they were super nice about it). I also got some standard edamame and avocado maki roll, both of these were "fine", they did the trick but weren't amazing. My partner had the large hot sake which he loved, and then a tuna maki roll and the omakase nigiri. Same thing with his maki, fine nothing to write home about, but he loooved his omakase. They didn't tell us what was on it but I think it was albacore, salmon, salmon roe, mackerel, yellowtail, and tuna. He said it was some of the best tasting fish/nigiri he's had in a while. Our server was great at refilling our waters and checking in making sure we had everything and was just very sweet, so we appreciated them a lot. We'd definitely recommend!

It's hard to believe that you're still in Humboldt county when you enter in! The workers are all very kind and knowledgeable. They are able to make accommodation or alterations as necessary. Despite that, the food in general leaves more to be desired. The fish is definitely high quality! But perhaps the rice should be a bit more fluffy, and more flavorful. The batter on the tempura was a bit too thick and ultimately caused it to not be cooked all the way. I think the sauces can also be better prepared-- they taste a bit prepackaged and not really homemade. I'd be willing to come again and not order rolls but instead focus on the nigiri or the chirashi bowl.

She right away inquired whether it had to be "celiac safe", and made sure that all of our dishes were labeled "celiac safe" for the kitchen, and helped us make substitutions for the items that couldn't be gluten free. This was our first experience eating out since the diagnosis, and I was nervous about how it would go, but Sushi Spot (and our very kind/helpful server) made this experience easy, and we are reassured that we won't have to completely give up eating out. Still waiting to see if other restaurants offer the same care for celiac diners. Until then, Sushi Spot will be our place to go!

My kid really loved the aquariums, and he ate the egg part of his tamago sushi, which is what we expect. I only had a couple of grumbles about the food. One of my pieces of hamachi was torn and didn't look great. That's a minor gripe about presentation. The main issue was the rice. It was bland and more or less plain. Sushi rice should have some sweetness and a little tang. After all, it's meant to recreate the fermented rice from the old days before chefs learned how to make rice taste similar without taking so much time... Sushi is probably 90% about the rice and maybe 10% is the rest of what's on it. It is the main thing, really. It should not be bland. Also, their chefs had trouble forming the rice neatly, which is a skill issue. This was prepared in the back and might yield different results at the bar. For me, the real star (food-wise) was the plain sunomono. The cucumber was fresh and crispy and topped with thinly shredded carrot for a touch of color. I have eaten at many wonderful sushi spots since the 1980s when you had to order in Japanese because the only sushi chefs around in the U.S. were Japanese immigrants. This was one of the best sunomono I've had anywhere.

Staff overall were great, and our waiter was very professional. The menu looks really good and as the name implies, there's a lot of seafood options for dinner. Someone got the fish and chips which was pricier than other places BUT it came with FOUR pieces instead of the usual three. I did the Snapper Almandine which was so good so amazingly delicious, I would absolutely eat that again. the polenta side tho was probably my favorite of the night, so crispy on the outside and soft and tender inside, flavor was amazing . If they piled high on a dinner plate and served that for 30 I would take it!!! I'll be very curious to try one of the steaks next time and see how it compares with other restaurants in town that I hear recommended often. The only minor issue was trying to get a replacement water glass after we first sat down because of lipstick print on the glass. I hate talking too loud in restaurants so thankfully the hostess noticed us before long. I feel for the kitchen staff, those oils do not wipe off cleanly and I often wonder how it is removed from cloth napkins.

We were quickly seated and water was brought over and that our server came to take our drink order. They had specialty cocktails, beer, and wine and a full bar. I just wanted a glass of wine, and i did get a glass of wine. However, I would say the choices for by the glass wine was not great. The food however, was excellent! We started with the Dungeness crab cocktail, which was a very nice portion for two. Then we followed with a cup of clam chowder that we shared. We each had a house salad that I thought was delicious. I had vinaigrette on mine and my husband have thousand island on his. He has been on this eternal search for the best thousand island dressing and he swears by this one! We also split tonight, special of Halibut with a white wine, garlic butter sauce, and Shitake mushrooms. It was not only the perfect portion size, but extremely good! We skipped dessert, but moved to the bar for a nightcap where we met a local guy and a few other visitors...it was very fun...everyone was very friendly! If you're passing through and you would like a good dinner, I would suggest this location.
