Grilled Sea Bass with cilantro butter and a grill lemon for a little Smokey flavor

Our waiter Samuel was amazing he had been there for 14 years, had wonderful recommendations and was very attentive. Nice ambiance and had that old school feel. The meal was absolutely delicious and we can't wait to go back and try something different.

We had dinner here on our one night in Eureka, on our Pacific Northwest Road trip. The food was good. But you are packed in like a can of sardines and that makes it very loud. Not a date location or a place to go if you need to have an intimate conversation. Because it was so busy, our service was a little slow, but that is understandable when the crowds are so overwhelming. Portions are generous. We were traveling, so could not take our leftovers. But if you plan it right, you can definitely have lunch the next day.

    Ribeye, beer battered shrimp

As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the owner. She asked if we could wait at the bar as she walked us over to a seat and said she will grab us as soon as our table is ready. The man next to me told me that she was the owner it must be busy. He said she was a nice lady. He was a local. We asked him what he would recommend on the menu and he suggested the beer battered shrimp. I'm not a fan of things being deep fried though. When the owner grabbed us and took us to our seat, I noticed on the menu how much food you get when you order an entree. Soup or salad, I got the clam chowder of course, they were out of prime rib so I got the rib eye instead. I was really sad about that choice since I haven't had prime rib in a while. The meal also came with either scampi, beer battered shrimp or calamari. It was so much food which is nice, but the steak was so chewy. I usually love it when I have to fight a bit for my meat like on a rib or something but not my steak. But it was a great restaurant and the seating on both sides of the restaurant were packed. It was set up for like nice dining on one side and then bar style dining on the other.

I was visiting Eureka. I decided to try this restaurant. Restaurant gets pretty busy for weekdays. Service was great. We decided to try fried oysters, clam chowder as a starter. It was delicious. Then we had snapper puttanesca and sea grill fettuccine. It was very well, sauces were on point. They give a very good portion for every meal. We had to get a to go box. Definitely give it a try. It is an indoor dinner. It also has a bar area for seating. Plenty of parking available and you can also find street parking.

The halibut at The Sea Grill never disappoints! The staff is always friendly and tentative. The ambiance is prefect for date nights.

Even though they didn't have cioppino, it was the perfect choice. Sitting out on the patio with the breeze and the sun and the bay with pelicans and gulls flying and flowers all around was great in itself. The food and warm service people made it incredible. We had the best clam chowder I have ever had - thick, creamy, sweet with clams, and amazingly not heavy at all, just perfect. The hot crab sandwich was a special, so that made up our minds on one thing; and it was excellent. The onion rings were highly recommended by the waitress and the guy at the next table who had just gotten a serving. The breading was perfect and nicely seasoned, and the inch-tall rings of sweet white onion - wow. Giant, delicious onion rings. My son was attracted to the blackened sole but I persuaded him that we needed the clam cutlets because - cutlets of razor clam, seriously? And they were cutlets, a thing we had never seen, nicely breaded and delicious. We like clams. The fries were okay, just fries. The tartar sauce was light and an excellent tangy counterpoint, and the cocktail sauce was truly amazing. We were impressed. Both plates came with a small slice of tasty watermelon, too. We left very full and well-satisfied but not feeling weighted down. If you are ever in the area before 3pm on the days they are open - do not miss Gill's on the bluff By the Bay.

Our server was very pleasant and let us know the special of the day, a halibut dish with a creamy pepper sauce. Debating between that and another dish, we asked her recommendation and she suggested the fish. So we did it. My wife and I traditionally split meals at restaurants, because they generally give you so much food, you leave uncomfortably stuffed. We prefer leaving comfortably satisfied. So we split the Arugula Salad. They bring complementary bread with a garlic butter or basalmic and olive oil. We preferred the basalmic. The garlic butter wasn't very garlicky. But the salad was excellent. They split it for us for a small upcharge. The Halibut was excellent. We had to split it ourselves, but that was not a problem for us. It was served over couscous and was excellent. A bit small to split, so we added a cheesecake dessert with ganache. Very good. We paired it all with a Cabernet from the Oakville area of Napa (where we had just visited) and it was excellent as well. Our server was attentive. The pacing of our meal was very well done. Not too long between check-ins, but also not rushed. We recommend!

The place was pretty busy at 8pm and we sat outside since we had our pup with us. I ordered 3 oysters as an app. I had just read that Humboldt Bay provided a large percentage of the oysters consumed in CA and NV so figured I should order some since we're so close to the source! I was surprised when I slurped it down and it was warm but they were delicious and the sauce on top was very flavorful. (That was my fault for not reading the description well enough; I'm just accustomed to eating oysters chilled) For entree's, I went with the Polenta Veghie lasagna and my husband ordered the Italian Mac n cheese. Both dishes were very good and very filling. I loved the crust of the polenta and the eggplant and cheese filling was delicious.
