Fast forward to the recent blizzard, when my snowblower unfortunately failed and needed repair. Because I had such a great experience when I originally purchased the machine, I contacted Merrick Bicycles again--and I'm glad I did. They picked up the snowblower on a Monday morning, repaired it quickly, and delivered it back to my driveway fully tested once again. The turnaround time was impressive, and the repair was completed at a very reasonable price. It's rare to find a business that stands behind their products and service even a decade later. Terrible service got my bike a tune up it felt worser then how it came spent 170 didn't get refund definitely better off fixing it ur self or a different bike shop the bike rides terrible and the manger flipped me off make sure never to go there I got robbed out of my money for a bike that felt better when I brought it in . My fixed gear bike has seen better days so I brought it in a couple ago for a major tune up. It cost $350 as they had to replace a couple things. It felt pretty steep but it's been a few years since it's been tuned, so I figured what the heck. The only thing that irked me a bit was not being given any sort of walk through of the bike during the hand off. It was basically 'thanks for paying, here's your back back, see ya.' No big deal, just a minor pet peeve of mine. As I went to bike away, I realized the seat needed adjusting of course, so I walked back in to have it dropped. That could have been avoided with just a quick walkthrough. Other than that, the bike felt good riding it and it seems they did a good job with getting it back to road-worthy. read more

These guys put the wrong inner tube in my bicycle. The tire wouldn't keep air so I removed the inner tube and discovered the problem. Went back to the store and they told me it was "within range." They wouldn't stand by their $9 sale at the expense of losing my future business. Owner is an arrogant bullshi*er, and with all the local competition I don't know how he's still in business. Poor service . My husband and I are both elderly and happened to get a bike from our neighbor that we were going to keep at our house for my grandson to ride when he visits 2 times a month. After explaining this scenario to the bike shop owner and seeming to make it obvious that we really could not afford to fix this if it was going to be a lot of money, replied , ' well for a chain and a sprocket I'll charge you only $190 plus tax'! I informed him that I could buy a whole new bike at Walmart for less than that!!! Our whole point about trying to salvage a bike that no one is using is to be somewhat resourceful and unfortunately, it seems like business owners, and those people who should be concerned about the future should promote resourcefulness and not try to hit the customer, just for the sake of making money. I recently purchased a wahoo element bolt computer on May 10th. The transaction was fine but a few of the staff weren't fully educated the capabilities of the device. I asked if they carried the Garmin Varia RTL515 tailight. Because I knew it worked with the Wahoo element bolt. I was told by two gentlemen the bike shop that it wouldn't and in order to have the full function of the tailight I would have to purchase a Garmin bike computer. They showed me an other Garmin Vaira radar without a light. As of May 25th wahoo released the new element bolt with new features and color screen. I called Merrick bike shop to see if I could return the bicycle computer I purchased 15 days ago, to exchange for the newer model. They told me I couldn't exchange it based on the store policy and I would have to call wahoo directly. I called wahoo and was told I would have to handle the refund with Merrick bike shop. The gentlemen over the phone also told me if I would have bought it directly through the website, they would have honered the 15 days and exchanged my device for the newer model. I'm writing this not to discredit the service or workmanship of Merrick bike shop. but to tell future consumers not to buy any electronic devices or products from bike shops if they're not gonna honor the same return policy as the manufacturer. read more

My son went in with his grandmother to install breaks on his bicycle. What a huge mistake. Cost almost a hundred and broke in less than a day. The people are not nice and totally took advantage. The gang at Merrick Bicycles have always been great, but the last few weeks they went above and beyond. I'd brought my bike in several times because there was a pronounced squeak. Each time, they looked the bike over, adjusted a few things and said, try it & see if it comes back. Unfortunately, it always did. A couple of days ago, they finally found the answer - there was nothing wrong with the bike, it was actually the way I was riding it. My right foot was tilted in & my sneaker was rubbing up against the pedal shaft making the noise, as evidenced by the missing paint there! I've ridden it another 75 miles since then, being very aware of where my foot was, and the noise is gone. So it was actually an ID-10-T problem all along, (with me being the idiot), but they never made me feel that way - they were incredibly friendly & professional, while barely charging me anything. Very personal service - as opposed to another, larger bike shop in the area, which is a factory. They've got a customer for life in me - I can't recommend them more highly. read more

$145 for a tune up? My car getting a tune up is cheaper. I could understand for a Carbon fiber $2000 and up bike but I just needed my kids Schwinn fixed. I'd pay $145 for tune up parts and installation. Oh well. Bring $$$$ because that's all they care about. read more

ATTENTION MERRICK BICYCLE: I will no longer purchase anything from your store. Today my 12 yr old son went to purchase new grips for his SE flyer, which was purchased there just a month or so ago. The black grips that were being replaced were brand new. My son just wanted a new color. So the store charges him $20 for the new grips $5 to put them on and then never gave him back the black ones. When my wife asked him to go back to the store to get them the employees told my son that they had already threw them into the garbage. Mind you it was only several minutes in between him leaving and going back. So my wife goes to the store and asks for the grips and the employee walked her out to the garbage and said to her which bag would you like to start with first. So then I get on the phone speak to the manager at first and he tells me if my 12yr old didn't know how to ask for them, because he has a mouth, then why did we send him there by himself. After telling him off he hung up on me so naturally I called back and another employee, the one who told my wife to look thru the trash bags, tells me I will give your wife new ones. Turns out the ones the employee gives her are out of box. Hmmm. Couldn't imagine why and I'm sure they were the ones you claimed to throw away. How disgusting you people are. How unbelievably unprofessional of you to suggest, not just a woman, but to a customer to dig thru your stores garbage to find their own property. And then verbally insult my son, my wife and myself. Needed a bike repair, sent them a message to set up a day when I could swing by and drop it off. They responded and told me to come by Weds. I show up Weds. and the person running the shop says Sorry but they are closed today and Thursday and can't take it. Strange, but OK, we are in a pandemic and I'll give them the benefit of the doubt with everything going on. He says don't worry though, come by around 9am on Friday and someone will take a look at it for you. Sounds fair enough. I show up on Friday and the mechanic comes out and says they're too backed up and I'd have to come back Saturday. I explain that I was there Weds and that they told me to come today and this was the second time I put the bike in my car and drove over. He again says they are too busy, and that I can speak with the manager. No thanks... I've wasted enough of my time here. read more

Put money on a bike and knew it would be about a month but now its 3 months and I've been told the guy will give bikes to people who are in the neighborhood and bypass anyone who was on the list. All in all, a great local bike shop. These guys stock premium products (e.g., Pinarello, BMC and ENVE) and have the service to match. Chris -- master mechanic, Serotta certified fitter, overall hoss -- is a wizard. There is no one else I would trust to work on my bike babies. He performs everything from consultations and fittings to bike builds. Pretty much a one man army when it comes to cycling. I have seen him revive some, well loved (guilty as charged), rigs. Rest confident that whatever you throw his way, you will be leaving happy at the end of the day. They are in the process of building out a fit studio in the service department. Should be killer when all the shiny bike bling is hanging on the walls. The space is being designed to support group workouts (bunch of KICKR trainers linked up to flat screens) which is a unique twist. Looking forward to giving that a whirl with some buddies (better have a mop handy!). Prices are super fair. Honestly, their service prices are a steal. Tune-ups include cable housing and cables (usually tacked on after the fact at most shops) and are incredibly well priced. A basic tune-up (suitable for most people) is $79.99. Basic plus -- basically the core tune up with some wheel truing and additional lubrciation of the hard to access components -- only runs you $119.99. To put this in context, you could easily be spending double that elsewhere. Components are generally priced at or right below MSRP; this is what you should expect in your local bike shop considering they have to carry overhead. Their owner, Mike, does a great job supporting the community. He is a really nice, down-to-earth guy. You can tell he is passionate about cycling. He runs a yearly criterium series. Whether you are racing or just showing up to cheer on a friend, it is always a good time. If you have not checked this out, I suggest you stop by over the summer: it is a great introduction in racing. P.S. Make sure you say hello to the shop cat. Local Bike shops that will take your money and not service what they sell. We love to shop local however I do not recommend! We bought $1500 snow blower from them which was used once and last week during the big storm, it did not work. Called and asked for the machine to be picked up- told us they could not get to it until at least Tuesday of the following week. Called today and told us they are full and cannot service it as they are full. Its amazing how you can take my money, and yet not stand behind your product. Dan is an absolute arrogant unfriendly shop owner! Took my brand new $6000 bike for a 5 minute installation of a bike computer, and the dropped my full carbon fiber bike and damaged it. I was speechless when he simply called me a lier. This was the worst experience! I usually only go to Brands and REI, but they were extremely busy today, so I tried this place. Rip off! I was sold a complete piece of garbage bicycle. The bicycle had one piece after another break or fall off. My son could have been killed when the last incident occurred, the rear chain derailleur broke off then tangled into the rear wheel, flattening the tire and threw him into a traffic busy main road. First time here after googling a bike shop near my house,this came up first & the reviews were top notch so I figured I'd give it a try,i just needed a tire fixed on my daughters bike and a new seat for my sons bike,as soon as I pulled up the owner Mike came outside to help me take the bikes out of my trunk and roll them in, I thought that was very nice,he took my kids bikes in to his bike mechanic and before i knew it my daughters flat tire was fixed and good as new! of course having her with me she wanted to buy some assessories so I figured why not? They have a beautiful selection here & her being only 5 and her first real bike i had to please lol so new handlebar grips,a flower horn and pink streamers were added!lol as for my sons bike Mike showed me a seat that was just too expensive but then came out with a perfect second hand seat which was perfect!added new grips for him as well,the gracious & competent mechanic checked over both bikes to make sure everything was tightened & lubricated,very nice of him to do that upon my request,as i was looking around i spotted this beautiful bright orange felt brand mountain bike and fell in love,it's been about 20 yrs since i last rode, Long story short Mike described the bikes features let me test drive it after outfitting me with a helmet, and we put a great deal together!plus he took 10% off everything! I even added some accessories of my own to my new bike and I couldn't be happier with the customer experience here!Mike was a gentlemen to deal with and he never pressured me once while answering all my questions,I'm fully satisfied and officially a customer for life thanks in part to Mike and his wonderful,friendly & knowledgeable staff! read more

This isn't a reactionary 1-star rating. These guys are genuinely crooks. I brought them a rim with two broken spokes. I told the guy (older guy), that they broke from getting banged around in my garage. First he couldn't give me a straight answer on what replacement spokes cost. I said, "ballpark?"... still no number. Ok. Then he told me I have to respoke the whole wheel. Ok. I'm still polite as can be. So he takes it in the back where I can't see him and comes out a minute later with a perfectly wire-clipped piece of spoke in his hands and tries to tell me, I shit you not, that the spokes are breaking off in his hands because "let me guess... these were stored in the garage next to the pool chlorine?". Nope. Don't have a pool. No chemicals. I ask to see my rim back and I start pushing on the spokes, yanking them, try to bend them, and they don't budge. Rock solid. Now he is lost for words because he knows I know he just lied to my face. I'm still polite, I ask him if he could show me where that little piece with the perfect edge snapped off. He got all nervous, he didn't know. He changed his story. Now he won't look me in the eye and gets behind the computer and starts trying to look up the rim for my bike, but for some reason can't find it in the system. While he is trying to "look it up" he suggests that by the time he respokes the whole wheel and trues it, it makes more sense to buy new rims that cost a few hundred bucks. So I left. Took it to Brands yesterday. Said nothing about my experience at Merrick Cycle. Handed the guy the wheel and said "what do you think?" . He replaced the two spokes for $1.25 each, trued it, and said the rim was in beautiful condition, no deterioration. He even showed me how I could tell. True story. Their customer service will blow you away, My wife and I purchased our bikes from Mike two years ago and our total experience since has been First class. The purchase and service has been extraordinarily. Today I stoped in after a ride and asked Mike if he could check something out on my bike and even though the store was busy he had his expert mechanic Armando check out my bike on the spot, and he totally went over every part on my bike to make sure it was perfect. At the same time Mike was teaching a customer everything she needed to know in how to change a tube if she got stuck with a flat. Wow his customer service is totally amazing.
