I had an overall decent experience living here, but the parking situation is a major downside. Residents are often unable to find available parking spots within the community, especially during the evenings, and I've had to park outside the complex on multiple occasions. or 10/15 min from my home at the community parking lot. It's frustrating to pay to live here and still worry about finding a place to park after coming home. The management and property itself are fine, but the lack of adequate resident parking really affects the overall living experience. I hope the community addresses this issue by adding more parking or enforcing parking policies more effectively. read more

Our indoor temperature is 85 degrees even though the HVAC is set to 68 degrees. The system is clearly broken. We have a 2-year-old baby, yet our first emergency request resulted in a technician who just walked around, talked, and treated us as if we knew nothing about room temperatures. After a nightmare night in the heat, I called management to demand another technician at least add coolant to improve the situation. Instead, they claimed they had no control over it and kept passing the buck. They offered no solution. They only care about taking your money, and the service you pay for is non-existent. They just do not want to listen to your complaim and help to solve it. And even cut my wording, or just hang up my calls. It is the worst attitude and the worst experience for my family. Update: I requested a hotel stay because I cannot wait for their bureaucracy to clear while risking my baby's health for another day. They continued to play ping-pong with my requests until I finally had to call the police for assistance. This terrible experience completely ruined our July 4th holiday. Second update: after strong request, they finally sent techinian and give a portable hvac to mitigate a little to make it 77 degree in one room. but I have another two rooms that is super hot. and they refuse to provide more portable hvac. I recently moved to Merrifield Apartments and the experience has been extremely positive. I am grateful that Stella helped us in all the steps, from choosing the right unit, making sure the application process was effective and having a worry-free move-in. The unit finishes are high quality and make the space feel modern and comfortable. The amenities are exceptional -- I love having access to the pickleball court, clubhouse, gym, and basketball court. Everything is well maintained and adds so much value to living here. The office staff are always friendly, professional, and quick to help whenever something comes up. Our neighbors are great too -- everyone is respectful and kind, which makes the community feel welcoming. It's also very quiet and peaceful, perfect for relaxing after a long day. The location couldn't be better -- close to the Beltway, Mosaic, and Lee Highway, with easy access to everything you need. Considering all that's offered, the rent is very competitive compared to other apartment communities in the area. The ground floor side is BARE OPEN only through a glass closure, that anyone can come inside. The apartment is very old apartment. The management does not fix anything, very unresponsive. After moving to Merrifield, I developed complications that prevented me from using stairs, especially as many as these apartments require. I decided to move. I paid Merrifield at Dunn Loring MORE than my ANNUAL lease. I have payment records and will be seeking legal actions. I left my apartment, by their own records, in perfect condition. I had only lived there for 8 months. They did some very bad accounting to say I owed them money. While undergoing major treatments and surgeries for the same complications, I received a collections notice from the apartments. They never responded to any of my contacts in writing (I also have records). They also refuse to answer their phone. They are about to tear these apartments down - probably why they hire unqualified employees. read more

I lived here since 2019 and I'm looking to buy a house or condo but it's just so hard to give up the apartment because it's across the street from a metro station and a grocery store. Just the convenience of having those two right across the street freed up so much time it's literally worth hundreds of dollars to me. Yes there was a bug problem when I first moved in. Moved here last year during the pandemic, because I wanted a less expensive place a little farther out, since I didn't need to commute. It served my needs well during the year. I was a bit worried about some of the reviews saying it's full of bugs and all that. I lived in a lower level unit for a year, so you'd think there'd be plenty of that if it was around. I didn't really have much of an issue. Saw a few my whole time here, but that's almost anywhere you live. It has not been an issue. The grounds here are pretty amazing. Whoever does the landscaping should get a raise. I've had a few maintenance issues over the time here. They were always handled pretty promptly. The office staff is really nice, even when I've been a little upset about this or that (got my car towed once because my inspection sticker had expired, and I was livid... called the office with temper full throttle... they helped make it right and were very courteous.) I have only dealt with Stella, Mark, and Carlos. All are very nice, helpful, and professional. The location is difficult to beat. You're across the road from some nice places to eat or grab a drink. The Dunn Loring Metro is just a few minutes walk, and the Mosaic District is nearby as well. Obviously the buildings are a bit older. That's why you're getting a discount for the area. But the interior was fine. I rented a two bedroom with over 1000 sq ft for less than what I was paying for a one bedroom in Arlington. They have more recently renovated apartments available, but honestly this one was fine. Everything was in good shape when I moved in, and it will be returned that way. Let's just hope I get my full security deposit when I leave at the end of this month. I've taken good care of the place, so I'm sure I will, but I'll update this review if not. I have a dog, and they are dog friendly. I do wish they had a few more poop bag stations in the area and a dog park. But there is a dog park at the facility across the street that I think can be used. My dog definitely enjoyed the big grassy areas between the buildings for doing his business, or just rolling around in the grass like a goober at 2 am. I do recommend the place as a nice alternative to the outrageously priced apartments in the area. read more

They will charge you for things they went to change in your apartment which are in perfect condition like blinds and not notify you that they are gonna be charged in your rent nor amount so you make the guess how much to pay them because they won't tell you until it's too late and it shows as not paid so home you make a good guess. We have screenshots of the lease we wanted before submitting however there was a mistake on the length called them to tell them twice it was wrong however the older gentleman told us that he will tell the manager to fix it guess what they never fixed it. We had to sign the wrong length lease and then WoW signed they never inform the manager of our issue Then towing guess what they say there is but there is NOT cars are being fixed there are cars with cover that have been there with months non moving gates do not work and in the contract they tell you we have gated and towing company no there is NOT or at least the past year and half we have been there. Rats in the winter found big rats not mouse on the roads. Now guess what if the trash is full and you can't place the trash you will be FINEd because they are too full for the boxes now that's your problem because they are a perfect place that never does anything wrong. So if your trash does not fit in the trash sometimes because it's over full and trash from every apartment guess what FINE because it's your fault everything one that trash. Valet had been added cool if they did their job but since they don't pass by and pick up your trash guess what it's your fault You get finned. I've lived here since August of 2020 and want to write a review because there are so many bad ones out there. When I was looking at this place initially, I had second thoughts because of the terrible reviews. But it is really a great place and I wanted to note all the positive qualities. We have been very happy for a number of reasons. We are USG foreign service officers and found this place to be extremely affordable for the area. You can live here and make a normal salary because the rents are reasonable, distinct from the apartments across the street. I can walk to the Orange Line metro (7 minutes) and get to Rosslyn in 25 minutes and L'enfant plaza in 45 minutes, a totally reasonable commute. They also allowed us to put the "diplomatic clause" in our lease so that if we get government orders, we can break our lease. Not all apartments are so forgiving. It is a multicultural, family-friendly community that fills up two whole school buses going to school every day. The zoned school is Shrevewood Elementary, which, other than its 9:20 start time, has been a really great school for us, with great families. Also because its family friendly, kids are often playing outside and we have a big grassy area in front of our apartment for kids and dogs. The maintenance is incredible. They come immediately after putting in a work order and always work hard and quickly to fix the issues, and never with a complaint. I am so thankful for how quickly they respond. There are lots of comments about roaches and mice. I would say we had roaches our first six months here, because of one particular family and the fact that the exterminators couldn't come during covid. We had the exterminators come repeatedly to help us out and eventually it was resolved. Now we don't have any roaches and they were very good in figuring out ways to help us. Regarding mice, there are definitely mice and rats in the trash areas. My only complaint about the place is the trash area. I wish they would work harder to ensure residents properly, hygenically, and appropriately utilized the trash area, because it is often a mess, but its not really the property's fault, more the residents. I think we could work together to fix it, but no one is that interested. But my solution, is just not to go to the trash areas in the evenings, when there is more a chance of rats. But we've never had a problem inside the home at all, or really around the home, just the trash areas. The kids have also enjoyed the outdoor movie nights the office has hosted! There is ample parking, that you can park as many cars as you have in, and its free! That is another thing that no one has in this area. The gym is nice and always clean. Overall, the leasing and office and maintenance team has been pretty responsive, very friendly and reasonable. We have been incredibly happy during our time here and I just wanted to make sure to shout out to the great time we have had here, and even some neighborhood friends we have made. Oh, and you can walk to the grocery store, some restaurants, and take a ride to the Mosaic District from the metro without a problem. read more

I live here for 2 years, I have seen a lot of cockroach, mouse, spiders and a lot of bedbugs, yes, I find bedbug in my bedroom carpet. the pest control only dropped some liquid. Only Marc is working in the office. the managers are terrible, they smile to you at the beginning, after you sign the lease, they change all attitude and told you that you have the whole responsible for everything. You will pay your rent monthly as your agreement to the lease and the office is the most unprofessional, disorganized and uncommunicative group of people I've encountered. If you sign the lease-- don't expect anything. No cleaning of filters, no service, no email responses except to ask questions months later about things you emailed months before. Bathroom, kitchen, rooms, closets. I mean, I've seen bugs I didn't even know existed. Appliances break everyday. The door to the oven came apart, I didn't even know that was possible. Some electric sockets don't work. The sink leaked into the cabinet below and caused a huge mess. Save yourself the trouble and DO NOT move here. My pregnant wife and I were supposed to move here in May. We visited multiple times prior to move-in day to look at the apartments and during those visits we saw a nice clean apartment, no sign of roaches or anything. Fast forward to move-in day and thankfully I had asked to see the apartment before signing anything. Upon inspection of the apartment, we saw that the place was filled with roaches. They were everywhere: sink, carpet, under the carpet, bedrooms. It's a very dangerous living environment, especially with someone who is expecting. They only said that they were going to fumigate, but with roaches, once they're in, they're in for good. It's very suspicious that the apartments they show you are clean but the actual apartments are infested and dirty. Denied signing the lease and demanded my security deposit back. The price is good, but not worth the hassle. When I first moved in, I spent a month dealing with a bed bug issue that the exterminator said originated in the apartment complex. The air conditioning system is old and struggles to cool below 78 degrees in the summer time. All the buildings have crevices that swarms of birds live in. They leave droppings all over the sidewalks and cars. Management is unresponsive and unhelpful, especially Stella. Maintenance requests take forever to handle. In the winter, my heat broke and I called the maintenance emergency line, but was told that wasn't considered an emergency. Air circulation is horrible. My apartment always smells like whatever my next door neighbors cooked. read more

I am about to move out after staying for almost a year, but I have been pretty happy with my experience so far. Good except for the squirrels in the vents. The rent is cheaper than anywhere else around that allows dogs, and it's location right next to the metro is really useful. It has plenty of sport courts and a fitness center, although it could really use a few overhead bars for pull-ups. Plenty of parking as well. The staff has always been friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Any complaint I had would be fixed immediately if I brought it up, (except the squirrels) and they have also compromised with me on various payments and fees. Communication is crucial though, because we did have a few problems, squirrels running and fighting in vents, broken microwave, roaches coming from the walls, a few erroneous notices, but all things were fixed immediately after bringing it up. (Except the squirrels, but at least they tried to trap them, it just didn't work) It's not perfect, but for under 1,500, it's worth it. All they need to do is get rid of the squirrel problem and they would be perfect for me. I got pretty used to the squirrels anyway and the noise stopped waking me up in the middle of the night, so I don't mind them any more, and the dog stopped barking when they would screech at us through the vent opening; they are just part of the family. Note that I lived in one of the new buildings, unsure about the older ones. Maybe they are not all full of squirrels. read more

There are so many good things in the world (and in Mosaic District), but Merrifield at Dunn Loring Apts is NOT one of them. Infact, it is the worst. This place is infested with roaches. The leasing office people trick you to signing a lease and don;t show you the exact apartment you are leasing but show you a sample apartment which is pretty neat - so basically they thug you. Also, their pest control policy is that 4 times a year, you clear up your kitchen so they come and spray the entire kitchen with pesticide spray to kill the roaches. Really inconvenient. We got so fed up after 2 months that we broke the lease (and took a big penalty - but hey what's the cost of mental, emotional, and physical health!?!). This is what I would suggest - DO NOT rent an apartment here. Or go ahead and do it if you like roaches (and mice like other reviewers have suggested - but thankfully we did not encounter any!). Oh and btw.. 1 star is the minimum I can give. If I could give less.. I would. And yes, special mention to the leasing office folks - Rahel, Stella, Amy and Mark. Let's face it most apartments have bugs. You can't control the other residents no matter how clean you are. But they sent the exterminator as soon as I notified them. I lived there in 1972-1977 and the roaches were terrible there way back then when the place was fairly new. I never had mice or bed bugs but those roaches drove me crazy, I mean those things could not be killed no matter what I used to get rid of them. Sorry to see it is even worse now for you poor folks. We are residents of these apartments for over 2 years now and we DO NOT HAVE GOOD EXPERIENCE here. Cockroaches are the main issue here, as much as we keep asking to deal with them and as much as they do the problem is not going away. Also when we were moving in the amenities included swimming pool. Nevertheless, it's going to be the second year when we DO NOT HAVE ACCESS to the swimming pool. As far as i know even with the covid there were lots of apartments that opened their swimming area for residents by following the general rules of safety during pandemic. This specific apartments as far as we understood just didn't want to hire the pool area workers and therefore the pool was closed, and as we were notified they are not planning to open it this year either. The gym was closed almost for the whole year as well. When we addressed the issue we were told that is how it is, thats it. I DONT THINK this is the way you talk to ur residents! We will be moving out as soon as we can, and we will DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND to move in here whatsoever! read more

I lived here for 4.5 years and overall, had a great experience. Let's break it down. Price: For the area, this is a steal. We paid $1361 for a one bedroom, and in 2011, there were no other complexes in the area. Now considering the fact that you've got major competition across the street from the $1600-$2100 range, these apartments have become an even better deal. Space: Our 1 Bedroom was 803 square foot for the Jackson Floor Plan and was really spacious all around, minus the bathroom. We lived in 2709 Pleasantdale, and our ground/"terrace" level apartment backed out onto a huge yard with the soundwall facing 495, so in many ways we felt like we had our own private back yard. Parking was always ample as well, including most of the time in the guest parking area. Amenities: The pools are only open Memorial to Labor Day, and close early at 8 pm. Pool 2 is under trees, so it's freezing all the time. The gym is crowded, but has a few treadmills, elliptical, and weight machines and is pretty good for a free apartment gym. Interiors: Our apartment was 80s dated but they have been renovating most of them when people move out, so some are updated, but not like you'll find at Halstead Square or anything. Even with all units being carpeted, expect to hear a ton of noise from your upstairs neighbors if you're on the 1st or 2nd floors. The walls between them being brick, there's less disturbance that way, but I'll never forget 4.5 years of living below one, then two, toddler girls. They can't weigh 30 lbs and can make that much noise? That's an issue with the complex, not with them. Leasing Staff: Mixed. I will tell you that Marc is the best, friendliest guy ever with the best memory I have *ever* seen, but Rahul and Loretta are not nice to work with. Amy and Joel are a little better. Maintenance: I often found that I had to self-diagnose any maintenance issues before any real action would happen. Staff were quick to come out, but they'd say "oh, nothing's wrong" and then after some detective action on my part, I'd identify the solution, and then they'd implement it. Cases in point: 1) Water stains on my bathroom ceiling-- and I'm convinced something's going on upstairs with our neighbors. Nothing happens. Finally they cut into it at my insistence and realize the neighbors are overflooding their bathtub and causing leaks. This happened not once, but twice, and was a huge mess to fix. 2) I start hearing a mouse. I know there's a mouse somewhere. I can't get evidence of the mouse. They look for holes and find none. I insist the hole is somewhere. Now, I'm in the kitchen and a mouse literally runs through my feet, and they come back out. They find the hole. 3) We start getting roaches. So many roaches, that there are HUNDREDS of tiny baby roaches crawling on the salt and pepper shakers I have sitting on top of the stove. They've fumigated a million times (and do so routinely) yet I still have a hundred roaches. Finally, I Google enough to find out that sometimes the roaches may be nesting in the actual stove, so they agree to replace it. Our third pest problem was the freaking summer crickets. Constantly they ended up in our unit. We would sometimes kill 15 a day. And do you know how fast they move?! Holy cow. Our fourth? Spiders. Spider webs all the time. The American Pest Control company they use is not working, so be prepared to add some pest control of your own. These are just a few examples on the maintenance side. We went through 3 dishwashers because when something breaks on it, they just replace it. We also got a new stove at one point because ours was leaking. So, we ended up with all brand new appliances, which was nice. Overall, I'd cautiously recommend moving here if it can save you some money. We think fondly of our time at Merrifield at Dunn Loring Station, but there are a few cautionary tales herein. read more

During my 2 months I saw over 150 roaches in all parts of their lifecycle. Though they were concentrated in the kitchen, there were a sickening amount all over every other part of the unit and my furniture. They would even crawl up from the carpet/floorboard area in the bedroom. From the start of my lease I was on pest lockdown: rarely cooked, kept the unit spotless, didn't leave out a drop of water, keep all trash in the fridge until it could be taken out, removed all clutter, had rings of diatomaceous earth around everything I owned, carried a Raid can like it was an extension of my body, etc. Still, I saw so many every day and night that I can only imagine what a normal living situation would look like. Roaches are a health concern. Even the on-site maintenance crew mentioned they had roach problems and offered to share some of their supplies with me, which was very kind of them. The front desk and maintenance were helpful when they had the ability to assist and I can't blame them for what I experienced. Though management talked about potentially moving me to a renovated unit where the roach issues are reportedly less prevalent, the evidence of the pests all over my furniture meant I couldn't just move or they might move with me. Because the infestation was not my fault, I broke the lease with no penalty but was forced to put all of my belongings in a storage unit and professionally treat and quarantine them for a full month. Pest control is a joint effort between a landlord and tenants, but there's clearly a long history here of a lack of reporting/upkeep from enough tenants and the exterminator keyed me in that management has been doing the equivalent of spraying a wildfire with a hose and hoping it goes away. He's been telling them for years and years the right way to control the problem, but they've been refusing to do it until they decide to renovate a unit. Problem is, when roaches live in other units then they can still travel to the new ones, though there are fewer opportunities since they have fewer cracks. Essentially, I paid to live on roach lockdown in an infested unit and then had to pay further to ensure that I wouldn't carry the pests anywhere else with me. Absolute waste of money and an embarrassing experience to have to go through. Agreeing with other reviews from a few places, it's a pity that the complex is infested because there were many great things otherwise. Sadly, anyone with a reasonable standard of healthy living cannot stay here, but if you're willing to deal with the potential roaches for the other benefits then I applaud your resilience and hope you enjoy the Fios, parking, location, and roomy floorplans. read more

This place is the worst. DON'T EVER LIVE HERE. I'm seriously warning you guys. This place was the cheapest in the area FOR A REASON. Pros: 1) Area is really nice. It is across the street from Mosaic District and the Dunn Loring Station 2) Rental price is cheaper compared to apartments in the area Cons: 1) ROACHES. ROACHES. ROACHES. They show you the model apartment and it seems nice, so you sign a lease and move into your 809 sq ft apartment and then you go into your kitchen and open a cabinet and BOOM 3-4 roaches crawl out. They have german cockroaches. The ones that are impossible to kill and reproduce like crazy. They are EVERYWHERE. In the cabinets, dishwasher, microwave, door hinges, under the sink, under the fridge. I have seen them crawl from outside the hallway and under the door into my apartment, from all the areas where the carpet meets the wall, and even the goddamn sockets. I have spent over $100 buying roach killing supplies to get rid of them, but I will never get rid of them because they have taken over the whole building. I have talked to my neighbors who say they kill 3-4 a day. The second day I lived here, I saw 6. And you know it's bad, when you go down to the basement to do laundry (every apartment has a laundry room in the basement floor) and the lint basket thing has a dead roach in it. And then you go up the stairs and trip and fall and as you get up you realize the floor has two or three roach egg casings that have probably produced up to 50 more roaches each. 2) Mandatory Roach Sprays They force you to clear out your entire kitchen and bathroom every other month or so, so they can spray it down to kill roaches. BUT it actually doesn't kill any roaches or stop them from coming in, because I've seen them the same day they spray and they just chill around 3) Awkward layout of apartment The kitchen is set in a hallway-like area, with a wall separating it from the living room. It gets annoying because there are 2 light switches to turn on one half of the kitchen and the other and they are placed on the opposite ends of the hallway. So if you want to turn on your kitchen lights, you have to start at one end and then walk over to the other. It doesn't seem like a big deal at first, but it gets really annoying. There is more, but if you visit you'll know it. 4) Slow maintenance that never actually does anything I asked for this huge as hole under my sink to be covered up, so the roaches would stop crawling out of there. I called every day for 5 days to get it fixed. They kept saying someone was coming. FINALLY a week later, I see a sign on my door that usually indicates that someone was at my apartment for maintenance. But the sign wasn't signed by anyone, so I had no idea who came. I walked in and the hole was still there and they forgot to turn off my light. So it was on the whole time I was at work. A MONTH LATER, still no one has come to patch it up. So yeah, maintenance is terrible here. 5) Little to no communication I would write emails to them that would never get answered. I wrote 3 or more emails already about the roach issue. 6) The ceilings and floors are separated by wood flooring, so you hear every step, creak and sometimes door slams above you and from the hallway. It doesn't bother me as much, except for when I'm in the bathroom and I hear a door slam and I can't tell if it's coming from my apartment or somewhere else. In Summary, This place is cheaper than other apts around. Expect $150 utility bill per month. Parking situation is great. Noise level is high. Roach presence is high. Honestly, if there were no roaches, I could live with the other cons. But having roaches means you can't leave any food out, no dishes out, nothing, or else you'll be killing 3-4 roaches a day too. And these roaches aren't scared of you. They will run around and hang out. Their feces can cause allergic reactions and breathing issues for young children. Plus you see the feces everywhere. Seriously if I can give a zero star then I certainly will. The staff in leasing office is the worst I've ever seen. I believe many or most of the residents had unpleasant experience with them. read more

There are a lot of rats and insects in this apartment, I would not advise housing here, and the administration is not cooperating

water cut off every couple days without notice. And when u call the leasing office they seems careless and don't want to hear complaining and they don't even apologize. Bad administration, I highly don't recommend living here. read more
