One of the best steak houses I have been to. One of the best steaks I have ever had in my life (the other was at Greig's Grill & Restaurant in London). My Aunt took the family out for dinner, and I, not wanting to be too spendy, ordered the sirloin. The steak served had the deep beefy flavor (and more) of a sirloin with the tenderness of a filet mignon. Unbelievably great experience! Two visits now, and I have been impressed with the food and service both times. The steaks (cowboy and rib eye) were absolutely delicious. They were cooked just to the right temperature and their flavor was wonderful. Salad was fresh and actually had a variety of vegetables on it. The french onion soup and wasn't anything to write home about, but I was there for the meat. Servers were well-trained and generally very professional. I do wish they slowed the entrees down a little and allowed a bit more time between soup/salads and the entrees. The entrees were placed before we were all finished with salads. I know these days most people want everything right away, but I like to take the time to enjoy a good meal. Yes, I personally would rather that they serve hot food too early than have it sitting in the kitchen under a heat lamp, but perhaps the entree order should go to the kitchen a bit later. What holds me back from 5 starts is that the servers wear jeans. The menu here doesn't represent a casual price point, and the servers are clearly trained to speak professionally, so why do they wear jeans? These are near-Chicago prices in Beloit, Wisconsin. Yes, the food is good, but that's why I think the servers should dress the part; maybe then more of the clientele would follow suit. You know how a clean car just drives better? Side note: I was in the first class of servers when the Cafe Belwah opened here back in 2003, supplementing my first full-time salary to pay off my student loans. We were poorly trained, poorly managed and the food never really impressed. It was a real treat to come back and see such a nice restaurant in that space. My wife and I came here for dinner on Saturday night. We had reservations and we were seated promptly in the newly built addition overlooking the Rock River. It was quiet and cozy in our area. Our waitress dropped off the menus and the whisky list and stated she would be back. We overheard 2 other waitresses inform their customers what specials they had that night and what was popular on the menu when they dropped their menus off. Our waitress returned and took our drink order with no explanation of the menu or its specials. My wife asked for lemon for her water and it was brought after reminding her 10 minutes later. Our appetizers included the French Onion soup and the Crab stuffed mushrooms. Both were seasoned well and flavorful. My wife asked about any specials and the waitress gave her two of the night, but not really explaining the ingredients. We both had salads and they were presented very well and crisp and delicious. My wife ordered the filet mignon with "The Works" (crab and shrimp mixture- $11.95 add-on) and mashed potatoes and I had the Strip steak with bleu cheese and Parmesan potatoes. Dinner was presented with very warm rolls, crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. Both our steaks and potatoes were fabulous, well seasoned, and tender. Our only 2 complaints were the onion straws served with the meal. They were limp, not browned, nor were they flavored with salt or herbs. They were flat and pretty disgusting. The second was the add-on "The Works". My wife gave me half of the mixture and it was cold. Not lukewarm, but almost refrigerator cold. Her half was lukewarm. Plus for $11.95, I would have expected a flavor explosion but this was not to be. The mixture was flat-tasting, not seasoned, and had no crab taste whatsoever. Along with the waitress's flat affect, this meal was good at best. For spending $104.00 plus tip, I would have expected excellence. read more

The bar area in incredibly loud from hotel patrons I'm assuming. We ordered steaks and the medium rare one was very tender and flavorful, but the medium well steak was dry and tough. Very disappointing for a $40 steak! The parmesan au gratins were dry and not creamy at all. Over all we weren't very impressed and will continue exploring for a great steakhouse. read more

The BEST hidden secret in the Midwest! I'd have to say this place is ALMOST better than my fav steakhouse (Smith & Wilinski's). I've been here several times, when I visit my dude in Beloit, WI. The booths are rounded, private, and quite comfy. So, if you make a reservation request one. The service is ALWAYS friendly and accommodating. The FOOD, is AMAZING‼‼ I've actually had almost everything that's fish/seafood on the menu (since I don't eat red meat). I'd recommend the Shrimp Dijon as appetizer! Side bar:The waitress suggested we dip the bred in the Dijon and it was THE BEST Also, the lobster bisque appetizer is simply scrumptious on a COLD WINTER DAY. As we walked in the door of this place we knew we had arrived at the right resturant for dinner. The place is very modern and hip I'd that is still a word for cool. A classic upscale place for all ages. We were immediately greeted with a smile and seated promptly. We started out our date night with a couple of amazing appitizers. We had the crab stuffed mushrooms and the shrimp dejoung. Then we had the wild mushroom stuffed raviolis with asparagus and tomatoes. Wonderful!!!! I had the 14oz Ironworks Ribeye. Topped with crap meat, scallops, and shrimp. All of it was cooked perfect. Plated perfect. It was a home run. Compliments to the chef. We will be back and we will also be telling some of our friends and family. The young waitress we had was also stellar and made the night. If.you want to end your night with a sweet tooth I reccomend the Bannanna bread pudding and a glass of 20 year old aged port wine. MMMMMMM.... This place was wonderful to find hidden in Beloit, WI. Food is good, but service is always a hit or miss. We made reservations and arrived at the designated time only to be told it would be an hour before we could be sat. The people immediately before us got a table right away and a group came in behind us and got sat. I understand that they were a larger group, but why was it that the hostess made sure their table was available but ours wasn't? I do appreciate that they tried to bring up a table from somewhere for us, but if I'm going to spend a lot of money somewhere it's not something I want to deal with and made us feel like we would rather support a different, local, business. read more

We made a reservation 3 days in advance for a 7:00pm dinner here, while visiting the area and were disappointed with our experience. We weren't seated until 7:30pm, without explanation, and no one even came by to offer us a look at the drink menu while we waited. Then once we were actually seated and eating, the food was well below what I would expect for the prices. Calamari was mostly batter and really tiny (Clara Bo nearby has great calamari), steak was cooked well but kind of dry plus the sauces are all extra charges, and the beer menu was limited. Very nice restaurant for a hotel eatery, we entered the packed room and were happy we made reservations. The room is lovely, great bar, with a nice selection of drinks and beers on tap. Prices are average for an upscale steakhouse. The service was excellent and the steak and fish were cooked just right. My six ounce filet was tender and very good. The bread with the meal was hot and refilled as soon as we ate it all. I had a baked potato, large and ok for a plain potato. They did not rush us, and we enjoyed watching the little bugs flying around outside through the window as well as the view of the river. There is a very nice outdoor seating area, but during the summer they are inundated with flying bugs that feed on the river. Loved the restaurant and hotel and will go back soon! read more

We went here for Mother's Day Brunch today. I'd never been to this restaurant and was really looking forward to it. Let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint! There was your typical brunch items: made to order omelets, bacon and sausage, eggs Benedict, French toast, fruits and veggies, carving station but also had great seafood items like glazed salmon, shrimp cocktail, seafood stuffed mushrooms ( my fave!), crab stuffed shrimp and scallops. It was well rounded out with green beans, a couple potato options, chicken cordon bleu and a stroganoff. Last but certainly not least, a huge dessert spread. All mothers were offered a complimentary mimosa or champagne. We had three adults with three coffees which equaled a total of $117. I didn't think this was insane given the holiday or the awesome food options. I'll definitely be back to check out their regular dinner menu! read more

Not impressed- had a very poor experience for multiple reasons. First the food was lukewarm (3 out of 4 of us noticed) and the steaks were ok but nothing spectacular and my medium rare was definitely overlooked to have barely any pink. The fire alarm went off soon after we received drinks and staff did nothing to appease us. 10 minutes of loud buzzing fire alarm and flashing lights and not even a mention of apology or compensation. Waited 45 minutes to order because Waiter kept saying he would be right back to do so. Then had to ask for refill of water- twice. Had to request bread basket- twice, and finally brought out AFTER salads were already cleared from table. Poor service, poor experience, so so food, for a fairly high price tag- no thank you. DON'T order the Macallan 15 year. They charge $35 for a glass. I travel all over the country and this is the most expensive I have seen anywhere in the US (including major cities like NY city, LA, Seattle, etc). Stupid expensive!!!! They also charge $3.50 for Ice (scotch ice rocks). The steak and food is great and no complaints . The staff does a great job. Other beverage items are reasonable (if you order basic drinks). I stay at this hotel often so I eat at the restaurant on a regular basis. Lesson learned though I will NEVER order their top shelf booze. Who ever did their pricing clearly doesn't know what they are doing. read more

FANTASTIC!! My husband and I came here with another couple on a Saturday night. We were welcomed as soon as we walked in the door and the service was awesome the entire night! Everything was timed perfect from the first drink order to the last bottle of wine! The men had steak while us ladies ordered the seafood alfredo. All 4 meals were excellent! OVER-RATED! First, the design and décor are outstanding. Great job in putting this restaurant together, and with all the local Beloit historical memorabilia. After that, the service was SLOW -- I mean abysmally slow. Bruschetta appetizer was good. My Caesar salad was good -- my wife's mixed green salad was terrible. My steak (the "Ironworks") was good but nothing special -- certainly not worthy of the $37 price. My wife's steak (the "mini mignon") was fatty, chewy, and charred on the edges -- and also overpriced for the quality. We skipped dessert, both because we were tired of the slow service and length of the meal -- and because we had lost confidence that the quality would be worth the wait. Add to that a noisy foursome at a neighboring table -- including regular dropping of loud f-bombs by one of the idiots, that no one on the staff seemed inclined to do anything about -- and it adds up to a totally forgettable visit. Once our waiter stopped by, we were told first round of drinks were free. Ordered a bottle of red wine and asked the waiter prior to opening how the bill would be adjusted. Waiter said the bottle was included in the first round and 4 glasses are better than 2. Soup and steaks were delicious. However, when the bill arrived, we only had $16 deducted. Waiter kept saying he would be right back. 20 minutes later, the manager stopped over. Her customer service was EXTREMELY POOR and argued about the bill. We were then told the bill would be adjusted but the bottle was not fully comped as told and the manager never returned to our table. The food is NOT worth the poor service. Had reservations for Valentine weekend. Thought we would try it for the 1st time because we received a gift card. Reservation was for 630. Wasnt seated until 7. Food was good but honestly for the price...I've had better. Also what I don't understand is the "Special" Valentine menu prices are 5 to 6 dollars more than their regular prices. Why? Because we got a shot glass full of a "complimentary" toast which our waiter completely forgot to ask us if we wanted it. We had to ask after our food was brought. He was like "Oh yeah. Did you want it?". We give him the gift card with the check and a generous tip, he brings it back and his demeanor was totally changed. He puts it on the table then starts to walk away. He then turns around to us and says rather rudely "Your card BALANCE is on the receipt". He then walks away. No "Thank you" No "Have a nice day" Nothing. Why? Because we used a gift card? With all that being said seeing as it was our 1st time it did not leave a good impression with us. One and done. We will not be back. We still have money left on our gift card.
