I have always had a great experience from Merrimack Valley Roofing. My neighbor recommended them when I had some damage to my roof. They are extremely responsive and return calls promptly if you are calling after normal business hours. They came out quickly and did a thorough job inspecting the roof and repairing the damage. The guys were very friend and informative during the inspection and explaining the repair. They did a great job and felt the price was very fair and the quality of the work was very good. I hired Barry to install gutters on my rental property in Amesbury. The quality of the installation was horrendous as they installed the gutters on top of the drip edge not only making the gutters ineffective, but also adding screw holes that welcomed water behind the flashing. When I asked them to fix it Barry yelled and me and told me that this was due to the nature of the roof. Fortunately my credit care company dismissed the charges and I found a competent person to replace the gutters correctly. They did a skylight patching last Summer which I had to redo and correct with other contractor. Also the big job on a leaking garage roof was done poorly and it is still leaking. This roofing company charged a lot but delivered no results and this is after $5000 for 5 hours of work. Warranty given was 6 months and last Summer didn't have big rains but comes Fall and Winter and you start seeing leaks. Calling and asking to fix it is futile. Never again. read more

Stay away!!!! These guys are crooks and liars. I paid a $7,500 deposit and they never gave my money back. Newburyport rejected their permit because they are not allowed to do business here. They filed under another name (Billco Roofing, LLC), they forged my name, didn't follow state T&C guidelines. I notified both companies within 72 hours to cancel to get my deposit back. I sent cancellation letters to a couple of their address. I called owner John Wolf and notified him by phone within 72 hours. He refused my cancellation. Merrimack Roof is not a legal business registered with the state. They delivered the material anyways. I found the $5,766.41 invoice with the materials and notified him they owed me $1,733.59 and would keep the material, because I was told by the city they NEVER return money. They agreed, but its been months and they will not return my money. read more

Buyer Beware. These guys are crooks. No idea what they are doing but love to tell you what everyone else did wrong. Only a month after they put a new roof on our addition did rain start pouring in through it because they did the entire thing wrong. When we called to have them fix it, just excuses and not our problem. Now i have to pay someone else to do it right. All we heard while they were here from other people who came to do work was how awful that company is. I wish we had known prior as it looks like lots of people here had the same experience. Half assed the job, had to return a few times to try and fix and still didn't get it right. Also didn't abide by their own contract which included clean-up, I had to cancel a party because we kept finding roofing nails and didn't want to risk pets and children that were expected. Horrible, I spent over 25k on a new roof for my home in Byfield selecting this company was one of the worst decisions I have ever made. Here are some of the highlights (lowlights) -took material short cuts (caught them several times not putting underlayment beneath the shingles) -removed existing drip edge and did not replace, even though it was part of the contract, Came back and installed when I demanded it but did a hack job, drip edge needs to be installed prior to the shingles. -trampled and destroyed my landscaping -removed a bathroom fan vent and shingled over the hole leaving the fan venting into the insulation -roofing nail shot into the siding of my house -removed and disposed my roof wires that they were supposed to reinstall. -Personal property "disappeared" while they were on site - I attempted to escalate this above my rep multiple times and never received a call back I cant believe they are still in business, I had a new roof put on for piece of mind for years to come, I have less confidence in this roof than my 20 year old one that was replaced read more

Do not recommend hiring this company. I hired them three times for a simple job, to clean out the gutters. First time, which was several years back, they were affordable and got the job done. Second time, years later, their service dropped off and they stole an umbrella for a table in the yard. The third time, which was this summer, they stole my money by not cleaning the gutters. The quote says they use a pressure sprayer. Instead they used a leaf blower which did not clean the debris inside the gutter. I spent $250 and called several times to come back but was ignored by Chris, who by the way said he was the owner. I then emailed the business and got the foreman who said chris is a salesman. Then was told by the foreman he would address the problem but failed to correct the situation. This company is a thief and I do not recommend. They lie and don't do as promised. read more

I shopped the job on my cape in Andover and interestingly all 3 companies were within $100 of each other - I have had Merrimack Roofing quote on other jobs as well and found the same accuracy. They arrived on the planned day early and finished before sundown. The dumpster was picked up the next morning. The only thing I can say is to do your homework and contact the Newburyport Building Inspector before you hire these guys. I wish I had. They have a file two inches thick filled with complaints about this business. After doing research on them (and there was a LOT to read, going back many years), I noticed that most of the good reviews they list are actually friends of these guys. It's easy to check out. We contacted Merrimack Valley Roofing & Gutter during the home inspection process and met Barry for the first time. He impressed us very much with his extensive knowledge, his attention to detail and his responsiveness to all our questions. He provided us with a detailed, printed summary of all the issues and estimated costs for the work that needed to be done using a printer in his vehicle which is just what we needed for negotiations with the sellers. Then things got a lot better after we bought the house and hired Barry and Merrimack to address all the issues in his report. The first storm of the Winter was fast approaching and Barry and his crew showed up with perfect timing to start and complete their work just in time to make sure we would be ok and that was very reassuring. Shingles needed replacement, large satellite dishes required removal, new flashing was installed, gutters had to be cleaned, new ice shields were required, and all heater coils were inspected and replaced as necessary. After their work was completed Barry and his crew cleaned up the area impeccably. They were cordial, friendly, hard working and highly professional. After the job was over and we paid by check, Barry went the extra step and made sure an electrician contacted us to do followup work on the heater coils which required a licensed electrician to perform and that fellow was excellent too, George Kazarian, Master Electrician. We cannot say enough good things about Merrimack Valley Roofing & Gutter and recommend them without hesitation for all your inspection, installation and repairs to your roofing system. Hey everyone! I can't believe I am writing a review for a roofing company lol...but I was quite impressed so I felt compelled to do so. I needed some shingle repairs done on my roof, not a complete roof over...but some areas were really damaged after this past winter. So I decided to give them a call after someone recommended them to me. I talked to a gentleman named Barry, he was really very professional and well spoken on the phone, not was I was expecting...in a GOOD WAY! He wanted to come to my home and take a look so he could give me an accurate estimate for the job. He literally arrived the very next day! He said he was worried that the damaged areas could potentially start to sink in (which I didn't even think of myself) so he put me at the top of the list. He asked me about the type of shingles I had...I don't know jeeze!!! I never had to do this before (first time home owner) but he got a good look and said he knew what to order. The estimate was well within reason and beat out the competition so I said go for it! He came back with his crew and the shingles looked liked exactly like mine! He has an excellent eye. But I was more impressed with the work itself. Barry happens to be the boss, I didn't even think he'd be on the roof working....boy was I wrong. He and his crew did a phenomenal job and it took them just ONE DAY! They worked into the night and used lighting fixtures just to get the job done. When I got to check it out the next day in the light...I was sooo impressed, the workmanship spoke for itself. I called him up to thank him and he was very gracious and he merely stated that he was doing his job. Wow! I would definitely recommend them to ANYONE in the future. MVR had their MA HIC License revoked. They replaced our roof in 2020. They were contracted to remove the current roof system, including, but not limited too all layers of shingles, underlayments, flanges, flashing, drip edges and all other foreign objects. We are now adding a second garage bay. When our current contractor started prepping to install the roof on the new portion of the garage, he found that MVR did not remove the bottom third of shingles from the roof or the drip edge before laying the new roof down. When we contacted the company they said it was standard practice to leave part of the existing roof. They came out to assess (or so I thought) but all they did was add more shingles hiding the roof they did not remove, as contracted to do, the first time. Barry refused to address the issue further. When tried to file a complaint in the state of MA, only to learn their license had been revoked. read more

They gave me a very good price on the repair work that they did for me. They arrived right on schedule and worked quickly and efficiently. They were supposed to strip my entire roof and follow the contract they sent me. They did NOT. The two people I dealt with were the foreman Barry and his boss John, who are both LIARS. What they told me and what they did was totally opposite. Three days after the job was done my roof leaked. Terrible! Better Business gives them an "F" and for good reason. They quoted gutters for my wrap-around porch promptly and showed up on time but their workmanship, business ethic, and service is the worst. Gutter installation should be simple right? After installation, water dripped down between the fascia and gutter just like the gutters were not even there. Apparently they failed to take the shallow roof slope into account. One section was twisted lengthwise over 25 feet; it looked horrible. They failed to direct water away from the house and a 12" deep hole resulted below the discharge next to the foundation. I don't mind honest mistakes but the owner, Barry James (Barry Billcliff is his real name. ...a web search will reveal an interesting past), refused to address these issues stating liability and "not our fault" reasons. Do not be fooled by their web site. This is a small two-three guy operation listing multiple addresses and under several names like "Andover Roofing". If you do hire these jokers, do not pay until you are completely satisfied; i.e. for gutters/roof test with a hose. or better yet wait for a good rain storm. At this point I do not want them back on my property. I will find someone qualified to fix their mess. read more

Don't hire this company! I called them to fix a leak on my porch deck that was damaging the room underneath the deck. They came and replaced the roof membrane. The roof continued to leak and caused over $5000.00 in damage. I called them many times. Barry came with his crew or sent someone to fix it. The workers would stay about 15-30 minutes and tell me it was fixed. The roof continued to leak. I had to hire another contractor to fix the roof. The new contractor showed me the poor quality of work performed and the poor quality material used. The new contractor removed and replaced the defective material. No more leaks! We hired Merrimack Valley Roofing and Gutter to do our gutters per a friends request. Poor choice. The rain goes between the gutter and the roof and down the side of the house. When I called them to address the project, they told me to look on utube to understand the design they installed and that the was the roofers fault. I have a brand new rood and done well to spec. The roofing company came out to verify their work but Merrimack would not at least to my knowledge. Their 5 year all inclusive warranty seems to be false. I asked them to come out and look at the issue and they wouldn't do that. Just keep telling me it was the roofers fault and wouldn't check out anything, again as far as I know. I didn't see them come out while I was home. There is even a corner that hangs low and constantly allows for drips on the entry deck. I wish I could attach a video I took. Tells the story. On the one and only conversation I had with them after about the third time he told me to look at utube, I laughed and said that wont fix my problem that I would like to have someone come out and determine what needs to be done, They hung up on me. At least it seemed that way because they didn't call back. Right away, I again called on their forman's cell line for what that is worth with no answer. I don't know what to do but I would never use these guys and will keep righting reviews everywhere I can because they don't seem to back up there work. Please don't use them. (side note, the roofing company told me that they could fix it by caulking it but I'm not sure that is the fix. Shouldn't have to caulk a brand new gutter system. I called this company to fix a leak in my roof. They made an appointment to look at the problem for between 1-2pm on a Friday. No one ever showed up. I called numerous times and waited around all afternoon and all I got for an answer was that I was on their schedule. I called again around 4:30 knowing that they wouldn't be coming that day and asked to be on their schedule for Monday. No one ever showed. I wouldn't recommend these guys to anyone who values their time. read more
