First (and last) visit was supposed to be a deep clean on bathrooms and kitchen and dining room floors. Water deposits left on shower doors, pee spots on base of toilet ( boys live here), floors along baseboards still visibly dirty. One bathroom toilet had base bolt covers missing and one bolt snapped off. I was so excited to get help with my house, but my kitchen and dining room floors where still visibly dirty. Fifteen minutes with a swiffer mop is not a deep clean. I was told that it was stained and couldn't be cleaned but after they left I was able to clean a spot with a paper towel and Clorox Clean-up by hand. Called a supervisor to see if there was some kind of confusion on my part only to be asked to take pictures and they could send the same girls back. I have a teenage boy who lives with me that I have to make repeat cleaning to get it right. I was paying someone so I could relax and not worry about it. I really wanted to have a good experience with Merry Maids, but after multiple disappointing visits, I feel compelled to share just how poor the service has been. First off, they are charging over $123 per hour -- which would be understandable if the quality of the service matched the rate. Unfortunately, it doesn't come close. On multiple occasions, cleaners were in and out of my 2,100 sq. ft. home in under 2 hours, sometimes as little as an hour to an hour and a half. There's simply no way a home of that size can be cleaned properly in that time frame, and the results proved it. I took photos to show management the lack of thoroughness -- dust left behind, floors not mopped, counters still dirty -- and while they did send a different crew out to "fix it" a few days later, the issues continued with each visit. It's frustrating to have to follow up over and over again, only to receive the same subpar service. If you're looking for a team that will actually take their time, pay attention to detail, and provide the quality you'd expect for the price, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. The quote response time was quick that was the only positive. Cons: The appointment start time was from 9am-10am. At 8:30am, they texted to say they would be an hour late. They showed up at 11:45am. I got the one word "apology" when I was texting at 11am to get an update on arrival time. The whole house was spotless because we were listing it to sell. It was also mostly empty for the same reason. I had already cleaned all the kitchen stainless steel appliances, dusted everything and vacuumed the carpeted areas. Therefore, the only things that needed to be done was clean one full bath, mop and vacuum floors, clean kitchen sink and dust window sills. When the house cleaners arrived, they estimated 2 hours, which seemed reasonable (4 hours (2 cleaners @ 2 hours total)). They stayed for over three hours and every time I saw one of them, either standing around on her phone or cleaning things that I already said not to clean because they had been cleaned. For example, they vacuumed the carpets and made the beds which I specifically said not to do. I ended up just telling them to leave after 3.5 hours because they were not doing anything. The shower walls still had a layer of grime, that clearly hadn't been cleaned. When I mentioned it, she was like oh, I did that. I wouldn't recommend them and it's clear the reviewers had same experience. Dishonest and lazy. Hired Merry Maids for my elderly parents' home and they did a great job on the initial deep clean while I was at the house watching them. When it cam time for the first routine cleaning, when only my elderly parents were home, things were different. My parents said they were at the house for less than an hour. When I came the next day the floors and walls were filthy. I requested they come back for an additional cleaning, when they did they finished in less than 30 minutes and did a horrible job. When I pointed to dirty corners and base boards one of the maids replied "our vacuum is too big to get the corners and edges". I asked, "so does that mean you just will not be cleaning any corners or edges?" She then proceeded to very rudely and loudly begin cleaning the corners, banging her vacuum against the wall. I paid almost 700 dollars for 2 women to clean for 4 hours and was incredibly disappointed in the results. The realtor and I walked through the next day and could barely tell they had been there. You pay $150 an hour for some lazy work. They barely clean anything and do a once wipe over on things. Dont scrub anything or put any elbow grease onto scrubbing dirt of simple home objects. They rush through and do not take their time, they just want to get paid and leave. Figures on why they have such low ratings. I suggest you save your money and go with a better cleaning company because these people are not good at what they are paid to do and do not care at all about being good at their job. It's actually really sad and very disappointing and an extreme waste of money. Did and ok job for the price we were originally charged on my credit card. Two days later got an extra charge for double the amount of the first charge with no explanation. Trying to figure out why at the moment. Bu for now since I have to deal with this headache I barely give them a two star rating. I don't not recommend using this service. Also floors were still filthy after they so called clean. Almost like they just did a lite dust and vacuum. We made an appointment several days ago for Merry Maids to come and give us an estimate for cleaning our house. On the day, 2 minutes before they were to arrive, we get a call saying that they no longer service our area because the road is too dangerous for them to drive. Many, many people drive this road every day. I hired Merry Maids to clean my very small, 500 square foot studio apartment. they charged me $125 for the hour, and then said "they didn't have time" to clean the floors or stairs (which i specifically requested them to clean beforehand) and that i would have to pay an extra $125 for them to finish the job. I was very upset because it should not take 2 hours for 2 people to clean that small of a space , and it should NOT be an additional full priced cleaning for the floors and stairs. My parents get their 3,300 square foot house cleaned for $275 by "The Maids " and "Molly Maids" and they stay and clean until the job is DONE, NO additional charge. I recommend using them instead. this company is a complete scam. They said my apartment was "in a bad state beforehand" so that's why it was taking longer. This was a complete lie, I had pre cleaned for them so they could just do the deeper cleaning. I will never use this company again. read more

I am not impressed by merry maids one bit. I live in a 5 bedroom 3.5 bath home and they have the chore of cleaning 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms along with the kitchen and two living areas. I rent a room in this house and my roommates pay for the rooms they want to be cleaned. Their cleaners smell atrocious. They smell like old dusty hotel rooms. Gross. I had them clean my room / bath ONE time and they did absolutely nothing. I was appalled at the way my space smelled and the lack of work they did. Everything was obviously barely touched. They are NOT through maids. They have been coming to the house once per month for the past ~ 6 months and the same 2 girls come each time. On a rare occurrence they put effort into the kitchen and SCRUB the sink that's not hard to get to come clean.. Once or twice MM sent out a pair of different cleaners and they did a substantially better job than the original ladies. I do not recommend this company to clean. Post on your FB if your friends family use someone they trust where the money isn't going to corporate. read more

We've been using Merry Maids for over a year and wish we had started with them 20 years ago. We had a person come in every two weeks, unaffiliated with a company, and as she got less interested in the job it became harder to tell her we didn't need her (which we really did!) Fortunately she left (finally) and Merry Maids was recommended. Jessica is currently helping us and she can do the whole house in just a few hours. She has brought an assistant (learning the ropes) on occasion. When Jessica was ill, Julissa filled in for the day and was marvelous as she followed the prepared list and asked a few questions when needed. They are so pleasant to be around that we don't mind when they're cleaning around us, but we prefer to be out so we're not in their way. I've asked to have my bedroom/office cleaned first so I can use it uninterrupted and they've always complied. I hope to be using Merry Maids for many years! read more

I had them come clean for 2 hours/two girls. Told them to just deep clean the two bathrooms and kitchen. I informed them to not touch or worry about any area that has carpet (which they did). I wanted full attention on just those three areas. I live in a small condo 1100sq ft. I was very disappointed with the outcome, sent them 6 pictures of my reason for the disappointment, never heard back. It would of been nice to have been left a note of why areas weren't done. Seriously, I'd rather be doing anything else but trying to get back at them for pathetically using the word MAID or MERRY in their biz name. I used Merry maids EL Cajon approximately 8 times for an initial cleaning and bi-weekly thereafter as part of their cleaning service contract. A coworker who uses the services in Scripps Ranch recommended her franchise (yes a franchise) owned by "silent owner 'Brad'." From the getgo my newly remodeled house, that is kept incredibly tidy/clean was walked into by their staff who clearly decided that whatever looked clean didn't need cleaning and months went by trying to give them another shot, with another cleaning crew because I'm clearly busy, I have no time to clean a 5br, 2 bath house and work 50+ hours a week! I'd imagine I probably paid about 60% of what I was billed because the photos I sent constantly clearly showed, urine week after week on toilets, hair on floors, baseboards never being cleaned even after initial "ripoff" cleaning, brand new quartz counters in all rooms (4 areas) never cleaned, ever, but if you ran your hands over you'd feel dust, hardwater and dirt! Guess what I wipe down as I use, that doesn't mean you don't have to DO YOUR JOB!!! This message of disgust is directed to the following employees, Sheila (manager ha), Renee (fired?), she Hung up me trying to get a word in between her lack of cleaning excuses, Isabelle, consultant/district Mgr?, I think she's renee's sister, similar lack of anything constructive, Megan, receptionist who doesn't know what clean is either, Christine (Corp franchise person) who doesn't care about her franchises, and the approximate 15 or so people who came to my home to clean just to shine up a couple faucets and think I'd be so mesmerized that I wouldn't notice anything else! For a company whose been in business for 30 years I send my sympathies to the poor person who started this and has now become a joke. I can't wait for you to go under, please look for my reviews everywhere they can be posted! My husband and I bought our home a few months ago and had some remodeling done before we settled in. We've been taking our time with setting up each room, but after so much construction, the house was very dusty. My husband suggested getting a maid service to help lessen the load on us. I was all for it! He found Merry Maids in El Cajon and was happy to see their location is just streets away from our residence. We had a sales rep come to our home to basically give us a run down of what the maids would do and that the first cleaning would be a deep clean, and the following visits would be a basic cleaning of the house. We paid almost $800.00 for the deep clean of the entire house. We have a larger home with two kitchens so we were prepared to be charged more than normal. The first cleaning was okay, but it didn't appear to be a "deep" clean that the rep described. We were mostly proud of their window cleaning services. Two weeks after the deep cleaning, the maids were suppose to come on a Thursday, but when they showed up they said that they didn't have enough time to clean and asked my husband if it would be okay to come the next day. Since they showed up so late we agreed and were okay with it. Friday a crew of two came and started with the upstairs granny flat. An hour and 1/2 went by and they said they were ready to clean the other main part of house downstairs. Just to give you an idea of our home. The 2nd floor has a master bedroom suite, a living room, a kitchen with a office area, and the bathroom is a custom built bathroom that is large. For me to scrub the shower would take me 40 minutes. I knew that when they wanted to start downstairs that they did NOT clean upstairs the way they should have. We left them to finish the rest of our home and found all the furniture unpolished and had ring marks left behind. The bathroom sinks weren't scrubbed and rinsed properly. Found a hair in the sink and the kitchen counters weren't wiped down with a cleaning product. The list goes on. I found our furniture knicked and damaged too. We called to speak with someone before they even finished the house. The receptionist Veronica was sweet, but said the manager had to leave early. Yep, seemed that everyone, including the maids just wanted to end they're work days early. Feeling frustrated, we let them finish and leave. We had been waiting for a call back from management, but nothing. Today is Tuesday and while I'm making my husband his birthday breakfast, I see each maid getting out of a van from my kitchen window. I'm instantly flushed with anger because we didn't get a phone call back from the manager or anyone. My husband answered the door and they came in asking what they didn't do right and why we weren't happy. Being completely flabbergasted, I said, "you can't just show up to our home and confront the situation period, especially if you haven't spoken to us to verify if we're available! " Norma begins to explain that they were sent here and that the office had been trying to get a hold of us. Neither my husband or myself received any call. We canceled our year contract and will never consider them or refer them to anyone, not even to people we don't like. read more

If you don't mind a substandard cleaning for a top dollar price this is the place for you. They left here about an hour ago and I'm looking around to see trash between my desk and the filing cabinet. I can write my name in the dust on the ceiling fan. They took items out of the window to clean but didn't put them back. I shouldn't be able to walk around barefoot right after they leave and feel grit on the floor. They promise you the moon when they come over to sell you but what you get is entirely another story. Maybe other locations do a better job but this one definitely does not. Just waiting out my contract so I can find something better. read more

Merry Maids is a horrible service! Me and my family moved into our house and the previous owner hired merry maids to clean and make it move in ready. When we moved in the house looked like it wasn't even cleaned they wiped it down a little but my cabinets were full of crumbs, cobwebs on the cleanings and dust all over the appliances. I contacted the company and the lady on the phone was acting so suprised saying she was the one supervising the cleaning and they did a good job. She said she will get in contact with me by the end of the business day. She never called me back! Very unprofessional and shoddy cleaning service! Nicole and Shannon did such a thorough and fantastic job of cleaning my home yesterday. Their attention to detail in the master bathroom and kitchen was nothing short of excellent. My home is currently on the market for sale and it's nearly impossible to keep it in pristine "show-ready" condition 24/7. A Cinderella Story. We are hosting a Family Reunion this weekend. Since both of us work, we decided to hire Merry Maids of El Cajon. The sales rep Joel was very thorough with our expectations. After pre-paying to agreed upon price, we scheduled the next day. That morning, two Merry Maids personnel arrived at the requested time and started cleaning. After being there 3 hours, we noticed that the cleaning was substandard and requested the agreed on cleaning. With attitude and feigning "little english", the workers made a very week attempt to finish. My wife was so upset that she just wanted them to leave. When I got home, I observed the present condition and called Joel. He apologized and promised corrective action. The next day i was called by Ann-Marie, the Team Leader who also apologized and set up another cleaning appointment for my day off, Friday. Arriving on time, a new team (Lida and Laura) started started cleaning like little tornados doing a very thorough job. When finished, my home looked and smelled clean!! I love this company. I have had Merry Maids as a cleaning service for about 8 years, now, and I couldn't be more pleased. The ladies, particularly Maria, act as if they're cleaning THEIR house just before "company" comes over for the holidays. They are thorough, conscientious and reliable. They also understand a house infested with children, as is mine, and carefully scout the floor for Legos and bits of bling before vacuuming. They get the pictures, tops of doorjambs, appliances, etc., so I can actually relax and enjoy myself instead of running around and redoing everything the maids didn't do correctly. THE WORST BUSINESS ACUMEN I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED I signed a contract for 24 cleanings at $220 a cleaning. Had I received what I was promised this wouldn't be here. The 1st cleaning was allegedly a DEEP DIVE. The team spent 2 hrs and 35 minutes in my home. The cleaning was a misnomer and I was very unsatisfied. I candidly completed their 1ST and only review after the 1st cleaning . Renee called apologized and said they would come and repeat clean at their expense. Contractually they promise SATISFACTION GUARANTEED. In summation I have had 4 cleanings and all but 1 was acceptable. The average amount of time the teams spend cleaning is approximately 2hrs 3 days ago the team spent 1hr and 40 minutes cleaning. I was very very unhappy. I have contacted General Manager Sheila Phillips numerous times, to no avail. TRAINED I found one of cleaning girls using COMET WITH BLEACH on my stainless steel Wolf oven, and my stainless steel microwave. I immediately told her not to use abrasive solutions on stainless steel, cabinetry, granite etc. I worked diligently to remove the scratches It is my opinion that Merry Maids is a very poor example of ethical business practices. The quality of their work is poor, unacceptable and possibly destructive to your appliances, natural tile, wood flooring and stainless steel.
