My son was supposed to be tested so he can receive the resources that he needs and nothing has been scheduled even though I turned in the paperwork from his doctor on the first day of school.

Since starting at Josh, her mood has improved dramatically, which has been a wonderful change. Her teacher, Ms. Weaver, is truly exceptional and genuinely cares for her students. My daughter was struggling academically, and Ms. Weaver called us to express her concerns. We decided to have our daughter evaluated, and she was diagnosed with ADHD, hyperfocus type. Once we understood what was going on, we were able to support her better. Her grades improved significantly, and she received two awards at the end of the school year. Ms. Weaver supported her every step of the way and played a vital role in helping her succeed. While the teachers have been wonderful, the front office staff could benefit from additional training. We've also encountered some issues with bullying. I had to personally address a situation with a child who continued to bother my daughter. Ms. Weaver did her best to handle the issue and even involved the other child's parents. To the parents of children who bully others: please do better. Teach your children to respect others and to keep their hands to themselves. I saw child at the park bullying a kid and the other child beat him up because he was tired of being picked on. Please raise your kids right!

Next, they are unfair. In 1st grade, I went to the PE class; kids were being bad, and we got in trouble, but I didn't do anything, and yet I still got in trouble. Those were two bad things that happened at Josh Stevens Elementary School, better than other elementary schools in my opinion overall. 3 stars

They make you feel like part of a community or family. Like your children are in safe, capable hands and learning to be their best selves. I've got two children going there and couldn't be happier with their progress. Thank you to everyone for making it such a pleasure. Communication is an issue. A week into my children attending I start getting these emails telling me to pay. I figured Urban League pays on a certain day of the month so I was just getting the messages by default. Then I received an actual text from the school asking me to pay and I was so confused. Why hadn't someone from the school told me? Today, same deal. I'm told $220 is due next week for summer camp. No flyers sent home with the school. No outline of what summer camp includes versus what's offered any other time of the year. It's daycare. I didn't realize summer was outside of their normal business hours. It's not like it's an elementary school and I'm paying for the kids to attend outside of the regular school year. Naturally, I was pretty upset. I went to pick up my kids and asked about this random $220. I was told that it's $110 per kid and it covers the entire summer (but the regular weekly tuition is still due). They bring in a petting zoo and have other fun activities. I wish I would have been told this in advance. I don't have a problem with it, what I have a problem with is the lack of communication. What if I didn't have the money? I am, after all, on Urban league. The fees and the services that go along with those fees should be clearly communicated. They shouldn't just be requesting payment. Outside of the communication issue it's a very nice school. My kids enjoy it. The facility is clean. They feed the kids two meals and a snack and they even have a graduation for the kids that are on their way to kindergarten. I love the school itself. The communication aspect of it absolutely needs work because I don't think they understand nor taken to consideration the hardship that comes with charging people fees without notice.
