WARNING: DO NOT TAKE BIRDS HERE!!!!!!!!!! TW: Death. One year ago I took my Red Belly Parrot, Conrad, into Mesa Veterinary for a physical, chlamydia test and blood work appointment. We were planning to board him in December at The Gabriel Foundation and they require these tests. Conrad was a healthy parrot just over 1 year old, with a 15-25 year lifespan. Hayley Dieckmann confirmed his good health and vitals during his physical, which I was in the room for. He was flighted and used to being handled. For the remaining tests, Dr. Dieckmann brought Conrad into the back with her. About 15 minutes went by when her vet tech told me that I needed to come into the back for an emergency. I was confused since these tests seemed so routine. And I was devastated to find Conrad lying on a table motionless. Dr. Dieckmann explained that he entered cardiac arrest and they had tried several times to "medically revive him," to no avail. He was intubated, unresponsive and his heart was not restarting. She told me that there's no such thing as CPR or a defibrillator for birds to restart their hearts (I learned later this is not accurate), and apologized. He was gone. She informed me that she believed her team used "reasonable restraint" during the blood work (?), and that this sort of thing has happened to her "a handful of times" in her career. I was in shock, and lacked the information to appropriately respond. I believe now that Conrad was mishandled by Dr. Dieckmann, and she should not be practicing on any member of the avian community. It's taken me many months to come to terms with this, but I write this in hopes to protect others from a similar fate at her hand. Conrad was born at Avalon Aviary in Loveland and after this event I spoke with the owner, who's been working with birds for decades. This was her response: "I have never heard of a bird dying from a simple blood draw except one because they tore her jugular vein." I would like to emphasize that blood work is a routine procedure for an experienced avian vet, and this is NOT something that should have happened "a handful of times" at Dr. Dieckmann's hand. I urge you to find a professional for your feathered friend; I only wish I had. read more

If you love your animals, especially bully breeds, do NOT bring them to Mesa. They will straight up man handle them, and traumatize them. Then, Mesa will write about you in the vet records as if you were the problem, because you didn't like how they were treating your animal. To top it off, they will "lose" your pets records when you go to a different veterinary facility.... Leading to my female being overdue for her rabies! They never not once mentioned that her rabies booster date was coming up! Since I told them I was leaving to go elsewhere, they completely disregarded the health of my animal!!! I have been taking my animals here for 20+ years. I am not sure what happened, but it is beyond difficult to get your pet in. I had my daughters 3 dogs boarded and arranged for a mole to be removed from one dog while there. They told her "those are some serious moles, but they don't look like cancer", which we already knew. Then they told her they don't have time to remove them. One in particular, that is on this poor guy's head, and it bleeds. It was already arranged for them to remove it, but they don't have time? Beyond disappointed, and am changing vets for all of our animals. read more

I took my African Grey Parrot to Mesa to address euthanasia because he had a crossed beak and was blind in one eye, which I felt was causing him problems. Added to this, I had developed lung problems from bird dander. Dr. Hayley Dieckmann felt that he could still have some life opportunity and asked me to allow one of their vet techs, Paulina, to adopt him. She said his health problems could be addressed, and I could trust Paulina because she specializes in exotics. Paulina said she would take very good care and keep me updated. I was happy for a moment that he could live on. The problem became when I asked for updates, I got no response. I've had this parrot for nearly 30 years and really wanted to know what his future would be like. What a heartbreak it has been to discover I had been lied to about getting "updates". I will never recommend this vet office to anyone because they do not keep their word and have shown ZERO compassion for me as a pet parent. read more

After moving across country from New York City my 19-year-old dog, yes 19-years-old, had a really puffy eye. After calling nine different vets in the Denver area and none of them would take us, I found this incredible veterinary hospital. The staff got us in right away and was so kind when I was so worried. They had incredible Covid protocol: We called them upon arrival and they told us which door to come in to place the dog. Then a few minutes later Dr. Steven Batch called us after observing our pup. He spent over 20 minutes on the phone with us going over what he felt was the problem and all the options that we had. He was kind, considerate, and incredibly detailed so we could understand, everything. Honestly he is a great vet. When our dog was ready they called us back to the same door to pick up our healthy pup. I'm super grateful that I found this wonderful veterinary hospital and can't say enough great things about them!! read more

I never thought I would be writing a negative review about Mesa Veterinary but their practice has changed in a way that is doing more harm than good for pets and their owners. I had always liked that Mesa didn't push vaccinations and that they were concerned about vaccinosis but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Not only does it feel like they are pushing vaccinations, but now they are also giving them without consent from the pet parent which is exactly what happened to me today. I went in for two scheduled vaccines, bordatella and rabies. I asked the vet tech to please clarify which vaccinations my dog would be recieving today, he clarified the two I came in for and yet my dog was given 3 when he came out. I asked why my dog was given the DHPP shot and the person at the front said "because he needed it." So you just gave my dog a vaccine without my consent? It would have been fine had they discussed it with me first. I was under the impression that my dog was done with DHPP vaccines but apparently not. Regardless, it is unacceptable to not ask for consent. In addition, I had been advised in a prior exam that it was ok for me to bring my dog in to get his 1st rabies shot at the time of his other vaccine. I mentioned that it seemed like I should wait on the rabies because he would only be 13 weeks old. I also mentioned that more than one vaccine at a time seemed like too much and the vet told me "its fine we do it all the time." Fast foward to my appointment today, the person at the front desk says "we cant give the rabies shot today becuase your dog is too young and we reccomend they be at least 16 weeks old." Wow really? Big surprise, this is what I mentioned at my last appointment. The vet we've been seeing happened to be there today, so the girl went and asked if it was ok and the vet approved. So the vet approved a vaccine today that she had advised me to come in and get a couple of weeks ago. Yeah that makes perfect sense. Now I want to know why she told me to schedule the rabies vaccine before 16 weeks old if they don't actually reccomend it until then. I would also like to mention that I had to bring my puppy in to get re-tested for giardia after we adopted him, I understand charging an exam fee to see a first time patient (which is $72), but when I brought him in only 1 week later for re-testing, vaccines, and medication pick-up only, they had actually scheduled me for another exam without my consent and then tried to charge me another $72 which I brought to their attention. Price guaging and greed at it's finest here. Mesa has turned into a shady corporate practice. Pet parents I encourage you to do your own research when it comes to vaccinating your dog. There is newer research out there that shows multiple vaccines are unnecessary and extremely harmful to your pet's health. Recent research has proven that one rabies vaccine alone offers lifetime immunity. Vet's will never tell you about titer testing either but you can actually have your pets antibodies tested to prove their immunity against certain diseases instead of over vaccinating them and causing irreparable damage or even death. I cannot say enough great things about this place. My dog woofed down some corn cobs over the weekend and wasn't feeling good. I began to phone area vets to schedule an appointment and soon realized same-day appointments in this time of COVID are nearly impossible to come by. After twenty rejections I was feeling hopeless. Then I called MVH. The receptionist was very friendly and told me to bring her in immediately. Thirty minutes later they had xrays and gave me all her options for treatment. Unfortunately, she would not vomit up all the pieces so I was left with no other choice but surgery. Dr. Nickerson walked me through the entire process and put me at ease immediately. The surgery was a success! I will be forever grateful to MVH and Dr. Nickerson for saving her life. read more

I have been a client of Mesa Vet since 1987. That is 36 years, 3 dogs and 3 cats. I had Dr Rajwal who just retired and Mesa Vet was bought by another entity. If you want a caring Veterinary office DO NOT go there. They do not care about your pet. They care only for your money. I was quoted a price of between $600. and $700. for Dental cleaning and extractions because of tooth pain for my senior cat who has been a client of Mesa Vet since he was a baby kitten, almost 17 years. After doing all kinds of tests on him the Vet calls and tells me it will cost $1330. After being shocked, I explained I was quoted a different price. They basically didn't believe me. I told them I had a $1000. and could pay the rest in 3 weeks when I got paid. I even said I'd leave a check for rhem to cash on my payday. I would never of scheduled a procedure I couldn't pay for After being a client for 36 years. They then charged me $247. for the tests they did on him and they do not bring out your pet till you have paid them. It didn't matter one bit that I was a 36 year client or that my cat was in pain. Their only agenda is a for profit Veterinary office. They could care less about your animal if you are $2 short on the bill or $200. I would not recommend this Veterinary Office if you want a caring place to take your beloved pet. They only care about money! They basically refused to treat my Senior cat with tooth ache pain because they couldn't wait 21 days for the $330. of a $1330. bill which was more than double what I was quoted. Then charge me for the tests. Demand payment and kick me and my cat to the curb! Please find a Veterinary Office that actually cares about your Fur Baby! Not the profit only! Please tell everyone that Mesa Vet is a bad Veterinary Office since it was sold to new owners. In a nutshell, we were needing to find a vet closer to our house. I found Mesa through Yelp and was immediately impressed with their page and responses to reviews. When I walked in, the clinic was clean and the employees were friendly. Our cat, Eddie, one of five animals, needed some vaccine updates. With that many animals who are like our children, it is important for us to connect with our vet and make sure we approach our pets health care on the same page. Plus we have pets with interesting health issues that include lupus, IBS, allergies, a cat on Prozac, etc., so we have kept previous vets on their toes. When I met the tech and then Dr. Bub, I was very impressed with both. I told them I was essentially interviewing them and asked about their general approach to care. Dr. Bub was thoughtful, considerate and took time talking to me. Overall, I feel like he will give our pets and us great care. I also appreciated that the tech took care of the payment in the room so that we didn't have to wait at a front desk with other animals coming and going. Cats don't really enjoy leaving the house so it was nice to keep Eddie's stress levels as low as possible. As another nice touch, we got a follow up call the day after his appointment to check on how he was doing from his vaccines and a card in the mail from Dr. Bub welcoming us to the clinic with a personal note about Eddie. read more

I've been taking my dogs to this vet for almost 10 years. They used to be really good to the point that I would even recommend them to people. Over the past 2-3 years they have really gone downhill. The front office staff is especially bad and make you feel as if you are bothering them when you call. I no longer feel comfortable recommending this business to people and will be finding a new vet. read more

We started with Mesa with our rescue lab, Watson, who had been labeled as fractious by the animal hospital near our house, and where I always felt vaguely hustled by the upsell. A friend recommended Mesa and they are our go-to for our own two dogs as well as for referrals. Yes, these veterinarians look at all options to get a full picture of an animal's health. They want to do blood work and ultrasounds and Xrays so they understand what is happening, especially as the animal cannot say. But never once have I felt pressured or judged when I decide not to go for the big picture. One of my questions is always, "What happens if we take a wait and see approach?", and they are compassionate to the animal and to me in their responses. We have seen most of the vets there and have had a consistently warm and professional experience. I am about to call to make an appointment to euthanize our first rescue. I believe part of the good life he had is due to Mesa's care. Watson has never given any human (or animal) there an ounce of bother (other than leaving hair all over the exam room), and I am grateful for a place where they recognized his sweet spirit. read more

My little bunny was not doing so well I called many different places none of them saw exotic animals or they couldn't get to me until the next day two days from now. one of the parents I work for told me about this place I searched them and they got him in at the most convenient time, they were able to tell me a lot. What they can do what I can do to get my bunny feeling better and they Sent home the wrong medication and wanted to send an extra medication but they knew that I lived in Capitol Hill and don't have a car I had to take a lift out there and one of the vets was so sweet that she actually drove to my house to drop off this medication. I just moved to the area and hadn't established a vet for any of my dogs yet. Unfortunately my oldest dog wasn't doing well and I had to bring her in to put her down. They got me in the next day and all of the staff were extremely nice and helpful. She has an uncanny feeling for each pet and how they are going to react and she will size up the situation and go accordingly. Dr. Rachwall is our vet. I see that I've written many 5-star reviews on Yelp. I probably should have saved the 5 stars for unbelievably exceptional businesses like Mesa so that 5 stars really means something. It's one thing to give 5 stars to a place I've visited once for a cup of coffee, but quite another when I've been 50+ times, and with such high stakes - the health of my beloved dog. From nail trims and med pick-ups to emergency visits, I have never experienced anything other than excellence here. If Yelp allowed me only one 100-star review, it would go to Mesa. This past fall, we brought in our dog when she was in obvious pain on a Sunday and Dr. Nickerson working that day. She was incredible and very patient - so helpful for an anxious and worried mommy - when I know we weren't the only ones there. The amazing thing is, the staff makes you feel as though you're the only ones there. I was in recently for a check-up with our regular doc(Dr Smith) and bumped into Dr Nickerson 3-4 months after she saw us. She remembered my baby's name. what we had been in for and asked about her issue. !!! Last week, we had to bring our dog in to a local 24-hour emergency clinic on the eve of a vacation for an ultrasound. Would have preferred Mesa but timing did not work out. Dr Smith was called for permission and called me first to see what was up. After a long conversation he told me he wanted the very best care for my sweet girl...that she was not only my dog but his as well and wanted to be thorough. This might come across funny in writing, but it was meant with such care and warmth, I knew I needed to update my review. Every person that works here treats your pet like it's their own...truly unbelievable. Each employee gives you all the time you need to ask questions and feel/know that your pet is getting the best care possible. The doc's always return calls and go above and beyond the highest expectations. Stopped looking for a vet closer to home...we're with Mesa for good. read more

We adopted our dog, Max, in March of this year. Mesa offered a free exam with the adoption from Foothills Animal Shelter. During all of our visits, we saw Dr. Bub. There was very little waiting, from the moment we walked in the door, shown the exam room, and dealing with testing (which you can't help but to wait). Max had an issue with one of his eyes on that initial visit. We got the treatment for it and were on our way. Fast forward a few months, and Max's eye turned cloudy and then got bloodshot. Dr. Bub looked at his eye, and referred us to a veterinary ophthalmologist for a specialized opinion. In short, the second vet thought Max's eye should be removed. Mesa came back with an estimate very quickly, and were able to fit us in for surgery on the next day. The surgery went well. Max was having some anxiety, so they kept him overnight for monitoring and charged the boarding fee (versus an outrageous monitoring fee I know another veterinary hospital would use), which was reasonable. We picked him up with his meds the next day. I just had to call to get a refill for some of his meds (pain stuff) and there was no hassle in getting that taken care of, which I really appreciated. Max will be seeing more of Dr. Bub and the fantastic staff at this location to keep a close eye on his other eye. My cats will also come here when they are due for their shots. read more

As the mommy of two rabbits, I have always been concerned about what kind of vet I take them to. I had a wonderful vet when I lived in Colorado Springs and I was heartbroken to move away from her. I tracked down Mesa Veterinary Hospital through a recommendation from the Colorado House Rabbit Society, and I have been very happy with every visit I have had there. Dr. Horst has seen both of my rabbits now and has been wonderful with them. She really knows her small animals and clearly loves what she is doing. After dealing with vets that know nothing about how to take care of a rabbit, it is a breath of fresh air to trust my pets with someone who actually has some knowledge to back up her practice. Since I have started visiting this clinic, I have a acquired a dog, and I definitely plan on taking him here when it is time for his shots. I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. read more

We just moved into the area last week when my lab stopped eating and had sudden explosive bloody diarrhea.. We were terrified and brought him in first thing in the morning. He was seen immediately and they started his treatment right away. The vet was in constant contact with me regarding his progress and decisions that had to be made. He was back at home the next day happier and healthier than he's ever been! The staff an environment are in a class beyond anything I've ever experienced. I love the staff. I love the techs. I love the veterinarians. The vets are about the premium food: Innova, Canidae; and don't push on the crap like Iams and Science diet. The place is always so clean, and I never have to wait long. They are open to 8p on most days which is very convenient for me. And a lot of times have an opening the same day I call. When I move out of this area, I will be upset to find another vet and will probably drive here because they do treat me, my cats and my dogs so well. read more

My dog just had surgery--again. And again, the care we received is consistently top notch. I have been to vet hospitals in the past where they have a "wait and see" attitude about a lot of things. I would prefer that the doctors be honest with me about my pet, his health concerns and my options. Mesa Vet is ALWAYS honest with me, gives my dogs great care and really do the follow ups necessary to maintain good health for my pets. Yes, they are on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. I'd rather cut corners on other things and not the health of my two best friends. My whole family has taken their pets to Mesa for generations. I will recommend them all day long. I have been bringing my pets to Mesa Vet for over 17 years. I have never been treated so poorly as I was on our last visit. Many business including my own essential business are letting people in with the proper screening and precautions. I brought my dog in for an emergency visit and followed the telephone prompts. They were not working. I got out of the car to take her in and the doors were locked. I knocked and waved at the receptionist who looked at me pointed at the sign and turned around. Finally a vet tech came and opened the door. I asked to go with her as this was an emergency and was not able to go in with her. Even though they have rooms that have private entrances. I begged her. Told her I had no contact with any sick individuals and have no symptoms and I am wearing my mask. They still wouldn't let me in. They had me wait in the atrium while they looked her over. Meanwhile the same receptionist who couldn't even give me the time of day answered a phone call. Then turned around to talk to another front desk rep and said "we have another bitch with a dog whose bleeding" in perfect ear shot of me. After the doctor had called to go over my dogs lab work in the midst of her explanation she said I'm not sure if you're understanding this, it may be over your head. She was curt and dismissive of my questions during this whole process. This place used to be amazing! I trusted them with my pets lives and well-being. But after this past visit that trust is gone. I'm not sure what happened to this place. But we will not be going back. If they can't even show me decency and compassion as a human how can they be trusted to show compassion to my pets?! read more

They are courteous, explain everything, well knowledge, don't do unnecessary testing and work with you to come up with the best plan for your pets, and your finances. Can't recommend this place enough for pet rats. I had to put my pet rat down, and from the compassionate front desk to the incredible Dr. Deichmann, my whole experience was amazing. They made a really difficult time easier to get through. Unlike other vets I've been to, they let you back there with your pet while they put them under anesthesia. I left with a clay molding of my girls paws and a little tuft of hair - such sweet keepsakes that I'll treasure and wish I had for my other furry friends. I even had second thoughts about the euthanasia, and they took my phone calls, answered my questions, and were just so compassionate the whole way. I can't say enough about this clinic, especially after dealing with other clinics. These people care about you, about your pet, and under what was such a difficult time, I'm so grateful these are the people I was lucky enough to go through this with. I very much appreciate Stefan Rachwal vet who did oral surgery within 24 hours of my urgent call after Wheat Ridge Vet Hospital took 2 visits over 2 days and plus 800$ bill then told me emergency vets don't do tooth extraction and told me their vet office could do it but we're full for a week or 2. My own vet at lakeside was too busy to even see my dog. Mesa has extended Sat and Sun hours and are EXCELLENT!!! I am switching vets to them. read more
