Kristin and Dr. Canon met us at a critical point in our and our dog's life. Having traveled 950 miles to Arvada, we found our dog unlike himself the next day, Friday. We called and got a Saturday appointment where Kristin met our dog and put us at ease with such kindness. Alas, a suptured spleen on our 11.5 dog meant his life on earth had to be spared further pain. Our pain was lessened by the thoughtful snack given to our beloved pet. They brought their dog in for a dental procedure and were quoted $4,000 for extensive extractions after being told nearly every upper tooth "needed to go." When they asked for only the worst teeth to be removed, the vet shifted the conversation to their budget rather than providing a straightforward care plan. Even after setting a $2,500 cap, the clinic pushed unnecessary treatments, suggesting splitting the work into two expensive visits. Clear instructions were eventually given (with a second veterinarian on the phone for clarity): remove only the worst teeth on the right side and do not pull the front canine. Despite this, the clinic charged $2,200 and pulled the canine anyway. After reviewing before-and-after photos with a qualified veterinarian, it's clear the clinic exaggerated the severity of the dental issues and performed extractions that weren't medically necessary. This was not a misunderstanding--it was a clear pattern of upselling, ignoring client instructions, and overcharging. My friend left with a traumatized pet and unnecessary extractions. read more

Informed us, on the phone, the charges would be 1700.00 to 2000.00 more since 14 teeth needed extracted and since the dog was on the table we needed to decide in 10 minutes. Total bill was $3061.73! Our dog, Lucy, was experiencing some symptoms of discomfort and we booked a dental thinking she might have a tooth problem. The staff ran all of her bloodwork and processed it immediately so we didn't have to wait (everything was normal) and they performed an immaculate dental cleaning. The whole staff are so sweet with us and Lucy, and are great at explaining everything. They've sent follow-up messages to check on her, and cards signed by the whole staff, in which they said they made a donation in Lucy's name to support education and research of Veterinary Dentistry. I used to go here when my dog needed dental care & shots. Unfortunately I feel that since they've moved to new location they don't care as much any more. I brought sick dog in Dec. 2020, and he was diagnosed with infection. After 10 days on antibiotics and lost weight, I took him back. Diagnosis changed to maybe a tumor. I couldn't afford tests. He passed away Jan.11, 2021. They used to send sympathy cards for deceased pets. They don't any more! I will not recommend a non-caring service!!! read more

I have been going to Jefferson animal clinic for 40 years and was pleased with the vets and care for my pets. However I will NEVER return. My dog was scheduled for surgery and I was told to bring him in at 7:30am but they did not start the surgery until almost 3pm. When we picked up our dog he was beyond drugged. He cried for 6 hours when we got him home. I was willing to overlook this. However my dog got an infection and we returned. I was told we would have to put our dog on another antibiotic. The problem was they had never put him on an antibiotic! That was negligent! He had to suffer through an infection needlessly I called to speak to the owner but never heard back. Rude, unfriendly staff. The vet's assistant was the only friendly/helpful person during the visit. Extremely expensive for a vet. Seems like a cash grab operation. They threw a bunch of very overpriced tests and amazon medications/products at me, without even asking about the issue or checking the dog. All the products you offered me were at least 25% more expensive than the same exact product on Amazon, or tests at other clinics. On top of that the vet misdiagnosed my pet. Upon getting a second opinion I found out that the prescriptions they gave him could actually hurt him. I wouldn't come here if it were an emergency. read more

Can't speak for the quality of veterinary service, just the front office staff. They didn't have my reservation, they didn't have my account information, and they have very poor patient confidentiality practices. I recently adopted my dog and his prior family had taken him to this clinic. When the receptionist handed me my pup's records, the documents had the full name, phone number, and address of the prior family. I immediately handed back the paperwork and had to ask to have that information removed and have my account information updated. At no point did anyone apologize for not having my reservation or account information. I drove 30 minutes to get there and was frustrated, but still told the receptionist, "I know it's not your fault" (since I'd spoken with her colleague on the phone). Rather than responding with equal courtesy, she acted as if it was my fault. The worst part was that as I was leaving, I did the usual pleasantries (thank you, have a nice day, despite their behavior), and they said NOTHING--no "goodbye", no "have a nice day", just total silence. I'm blown away by the lack of courtesy. Even if they have great vets on staff, we won't be returning, given the lack of care with patient files and reservations. read more

They love abusing animals. They ripped out my birds feathers and destroyed her beak as well. She was bleeding from her feathers being ripped out and she was traumatized. She hasn't talked for 2 months. Do not bring your animals here at all. Its going to take years for her beak to be normal again. read more

We can't say enough good things about Jefferson Animal Clinic. Dr. Dickens has been amazing throughout our entire ordeal. In June, we noticed our dog, Charlie, start walking a bit off. We brought her in and after a quick x-ray, we were told that there was a possibility of cancer in her leg. It was later confirmed (very quickly). Dr. Dickens gave us a ton of information, was incredibly kind and compassionate through it all, and did not pressure us into any of the options. We ended up amputating her front leg to improve her quality of life. The cost was obviously not exactly cheap, but it was very much in line with most other vet hospitals. The next part amazed us. The surgery was a pretty long surgery, but they allowed us to text them during it to ask any questions and to see how she was doing. They always responded. Dr. Russ and Dr. Dickens, a long with their surgical team stayed during her recovery that night until she was ready to go with us. We sent pictures and questions over the following days/weeks and would always receive a response quickly as to their thoughts and whether we needed to bring her back in. We brought her in what felt like weekly in order for them to make sure that she was healing properly. None of those visits cost anything because they said it was all part of the original surgery cost. That was amazing. Every time we came in, the entire staff was welcoming and would all know Charlie by name and make sure to come say hi to her. We couldn't have asked for a better Vet clinic. She is now back to her regular self running around and swimming as much as she can. We are enjoying seeing her so happy for her remaining time. Thank you so much Jefferson Animal Clinic! read more

We will never take our pets anywhere else. Our 17year old kitty had a very rough year. We took him in for what we were sure would be his last and final visit. There wasn't anything else to do for him he was so sick and old. Dr. Casey and Shaun were wonderful! So loving and caring. We were given all the time we needed with our sweet little boy. And now, today, after four weeks from his death, we received a sympathy card with messages hand-written from every person who works at the clinic. This type of care and concern was never given by any other vet clinic. Thank you to everyone there. We will never forget your kind treatment. Started coming here for our older dog's incontinent issues because of their special deal for new patients. Since then, we have fallen in love with them. We showed up late to pick up a prescription and they were already closed but someone was working on the garden out front. She let us in to get our dog's medication even though she didn't have to. Fine for immunizations, but if something is seriously wrong with your pet I would bring them elsewhere. My cat had stopped eating for a few days so I brought her in. They ran blood tests and had me get and ultrasound which "diagnosed" her with pancreatitis. After a week, she still wasn't eating so they placed a feeding tube. They gave me a "regimen" to follow for feeding, but my cat still wouldn't eat on her own after 2 weeks with the feeding tube and they told me I was going to have to "make a decision" AKA put her down. My cat was FINE, I took her to a specialist who told me that 9/10 ultrasound reads result in a pancreatitis diagnosis because it's very hard to tell with ultrasound. She said I was OVERFEEDING my cat through the feeding tube and to skip a few meals to see if she gets hungry and eats on her own. Sure enough, that night she started eating on her own and she's alive and well a year later now. They almost made me put down a perfectly fine cat and never once suggested I let my cat get hungry with the feeding tube. Unbelievable. Highly recommend getting a second opinion before making any decisions. read more

Jefferson took my dog in days later and performed a top-notch surgery on my pup. I was truly impressed. I took my kitten as a new client for her first check-up and shots. First, I appreciate and understand precautions businesses take due to COVID. Now, as I approached the door, a lady came out and told me they're doing car side check in and for me to wait at my car for someone to meet me there. No problem. After a couple of minutes, another lady came out and did the check in. Then, to my surprise, she told me I had to wait at my car while she took my kitten inside for the exam. They don't allow people inside. I voiced my objection to allowing that because I don't know them. The exam was to double as a chance to get to know them. I can't do that from my car. Again, I understand and appreciate precautions. But, that's going too far. Had I been told up front that was their policy, I would've never scheduled the appointment. I started using Jefferson Animal Clinic Due to its proximity to my house. It was nice to be able to walk my dog there and calm her down a bit. That said I'm glad I gave them a shot because they have been great with my 2 year old pitbull, despite her "energetic" and excitable temperament. The doctors and the veterinary techs are friendly and knowledgable and much more willing to spend time answering our questions and making sure my dog is healthy then our previous vet which incidentally came at a higher price. The receptionist has always been helpful too and managed to squeeze us in today for a last minute bordetella shot. I would strongly recommend trying out this vet especially if you live in the Olde Town Arvada area. It makes sense to support our local businesses when they support us. read more

I brought my large red nose pitbull in to this clinic to update his vaccinations and microchip him. They catered to my dog's specific needs and treated him with much love and respect. Although my large pup has aggression/protection issues and demonstrated such to the male veterinarian immediately upon confrontation, they had no issues calming him and respecting his boundaries until he was comfortable with them. The vet was extremely knowledgable yet personable in every aspect of the visit, and was very helpful in referring me to a temperament trainer who was also a pitbull owner. I expected a rather difficult visit to the vet, but it turned out to be quite enjoyable. Saw Dr. Russ today with my Dbl Yellow Headed Parrot. After a concerning weekend and him taking our call to assure my bird was ok; we were seen today with concern, comfort and patience. Horrible place! I brought my kitten in here a few years back for his first appt after adopting him. The vet tech and the vet were rough with him in general. They went to take his temp and he turned around and tried to bite them, while I understand it is not acceptable for a cat to bite anyone, you tell me what cat hasn't tired to scratch or bite someone when getting their temp taken. Well, when he turned around and tried to bite them, mind you he did not bite anyone, the vet scruffed him, got right in his face and yelled, "YOU DO NOT BITE! YOU UNDERSTAND?!" The vet tech swatted him so hard he yelled. I told them to give him back to me and I walked out without finishing the exam. I really don't understand why this place has good reviews. I would NEVER go back here and I tell everyone I know to stay far away from here, there are much better facilities elsewhere. read more

We had a very sick cat. For several days, this group poked, prodded and tested to no avail. We stayed with them too long and our beloved pet died. However, before his death we took him to another vet. They immediately found the piece of dental floss wrapped around his tongue and extending down his throat. Had Jefferson Animal Hospital noted this very obvious problem early in their examination of our critter, it could have been removed prior to the damage done to stomach and intestines which caused his death. My cat needed a follow up appointment to check that her UTI had healed completely. I made the appointment about 12 days ago. It was a 30 day follow up per the animal Urgent Care doctor. I showed up today, Saturday July 27 just before 9am and they didn't have an appointment for my cat. The woman at the front desk who works there a few days who has always been so nice and friendly was not at all friendly today. She was dismissive and clearly didn't care. She said I could wait and they would work me in but my cat would have been too emotionally distressed because the small front office can get crowded. Besides I had an appointment. The time before this my cat was left stinking of the vet techs perfume. The Vets have always been great with my cat. Other techs have been kind to my cat. Shaun was amazing with me and my cat. He was patient and took the time to explain things so I as a first time pet owner would understand. I'm bummed because I have to find a new place to take my cat. I had my five animals at Jefferson Animal clinic for years. I had just spent $1800 having my old cat's teeth cleaned and some removed. My labrador was due for her annual exam right after that. Dr. Russ Draebek said he would not give me any more heartworm meds until I brought her in for that exam. When I said I need to wait a couple of months, the receptionist was rude and hung up on me. I called back to talk to Dr. Russ and he would not take my call. I ended up taking to the office manager and got two months of heart worm pills. My dog is on it year round, so why let that lapse and put her at risk while I had to wait for funds?? Dr. Russ seemed okay with that! I felt like the relationship I thought was had was only on my part, I felt like just a pocketbook to them. They are overcharging for services and I would NOT recommend them to anyone. read more

Awful to the 100th power! The staff are very rude but most importantly, they don't seem to have a clue what they are doing or talking about. There was one young gentleman that was wonderful...didn't know that he was just the tech. The vet was really rough with my little english bulldog and literally made her scream when she gave her the shots! Unfortunately, I had to return there a few weeks following that first appointment for a booster shot. That was even worse, the vet or tech...whoever she was didn't even introduce herself. She really scared my dog when she was trying to take her temp. Again, they made my dog scream! I said lets just give the booster without taking her temp, my dog has been doing great, playful as usual...she was very snotty when she replied that they don't like to do that, and she will note that i declined. She also had the galls to inform me that If you stop what your doing when they resist, it will teach them that they can get away with it....bla bla bla! No kidding? That's meant for teaching them to use the bathroom outside and sit, lay down, etc.., not for something that scares them and hurts them so bad they scream and start shaking. Well, that was my first, second and absolute last visit there!!! If you love your pet as much as we love our, please DO NOT put them through that horror!!! read more
