If you're looking for the review to solidify choosing Forest Houses Resort for your next getaway to Sedona, LOOK NO FURTHER!! Last weekend was our first trip up to Forest Houses Resort and was somewhat of a "last minute" booking. Bob and Jenny made every accommodation possible, even in one week's time! I appreciated the information packet sent via mail that included the receipt of the single night deposit, a recommended packing list, and some background about this little gem in Oak Creek Canyon. I loved the description included about the atmosphere of Forest Houses Resort, which states that "[it] is for people who enjoy peace and quiet in this crowded world." The lack of technology made this trip a very bonding and communicative experience for my fiancé and I, albeit for just a two-night stay. The cabin we stayed in, the Cook House, was beyond our expectations and was EXTREMELY comfortable. The bed was very nice, with comfort controls for both sides of the mattress. The bathroom included a standalone shower and whirlpool (with jets!). Within the second room was a queen Murphy bed that folded up against the wall. While we didn't use the room very much, it would be perfect for one or two additional guests. Whether recently renovated or not, the kitchen was absolutely exquisite! We enjoyed cooking up some pancakes and bacon on the griddle built into the gas stove. The fireplace and sitting area provided a great location for reading, games, conversation, and (of course) s'mores! We will certainly be booking another adventure up North in the future. While hesitant at first, both of us truly enjoyed the true bliss of nature and each other's company without the distractions of technology. We soooooo lucked out not only with this place, but with timing for the first snow of the year. This is about as adorable as it gets. Tucked out in the forest, I felt like I was in Northern Michicagn actually, rather than Arizona. We stayed in The Treehouse and it really did feel as if we were in a treehouse! Resting high above the Oak Creek, our front porch had gorgeous views of the creek and the mountain booming high above us. The cottage was situated far enough from the other cottages and it was as if we were out there alone. The back porch was very spacious and included a grill (too cold to grill out though!) and the cabin itself featured a skylight. This was fantastic as we heard/and watched the snow fall. Each cabin has it's own wood burning fireplace and they have tons of wood already chopped for you to use. The kitchen was full of anything you could possibly need, the furniture was comfy and most importantly, clean, and there was even a Sleep Number bed! This is a small area so parking is very limited, so carpool! This is a quiet, off the main drag location and it's unbelievably relaxing. There is no cable/tv which is no big deal, but there is no wifi anywhere near here. That took some getting used to , I have to admit. These cabins vary in sizes from studio to several bedrooms. I can't stress how gorgeous they are and how stunning the location is. I'll definitely stay here again! read more

(Late autumn visit). I stayed in the Chalet House this time. Very nice cabin and enough room for three. There are a ton of windows in this cabin, including 3 skylights. The cabin is surrounded by trees, which makes for a nice view. The kitchen is nicely appointed and the linens are comfortable and cozy. The entire cabin is cozy. The fireplace is big enough to warm the living area and dining room. The owners kindly provide all the free firewood you can use! There are three doors to get in and out, and a back patio for grilling. One important piece of info I must share: the cabin isn't very private. Pretty much everything outside is at eye level; people, cars, golf-carts. Also, the cabin is right next to the open space (for games, kids, dogs on leashes, etc) so you hear those noises. The cabin is directly across from the main office. There is parking for other cabins about 3 feet away on the right. I rather felt I was in a fishbowl, especially at night so I was sure to close the curtains. Overall, though, I adore Forest Houses Resort. They could put me on a cot in the closet and I'd be happy. This is because the staff is friendly and professional. The ambience is peaceful, quiet, and woodsy. I can almost feel the stress of real life falling off in chunks when I arrive. I will be going back in 2018!! read more

I absolutely LOVE this place! My fiance took me here just over a year ago and proposed on the trip. We stayed in the Oak House and couldn't have enjoyed our time here more. We love to cook and the kitchen was beautiful and stocked with anything we needed (food not included). We woke up and drank coffee while looking out the gorgeous floor to ceiling window and the lush green ivy. You can hear the creek all hours of the day and night and you never have to worry about outside interruptions. The owners are adamant that this is a place to come and relax, not a place to come and have large groups of people partying and disrupting other guests. My words about the cozy cottage, fireplaces downstairs and up, and the beautiful kitchen can never do this place justice. Just to brag, my fiance surprised me recently and worked with my boss to pick me up early from work and take me back to this magical place for another relaxing weekend; it was just as wonderful as the first time (although he made me try his homemade chicken gizzards). read more

We stayed up there last weekend in the Bridge House. The "cabin" was well kept and had pots, pans, dishes and nice furniture. I'd recommend bringing your own pillows. :) Looking out or window was oak creek and for the price, you cant beat the view or location. The staff was also very friendly answering questions about places to hike and even gave us a map! I would recommend to anyone staying up in Sedona. read more

Forest Houses is a great place to go if you are looking for a very quiet, relaxing getaway in Sedona. There are no TVs, phones, internet, or cell service and it caters to people who want peace and quiet. If you have a car full of screaming kids and barking dogs (you know who you are) this is NOT the place for you to stay. There are plenty of other places to stay closer to town and your kids won't hate you when you tell them there is no Wi-Fi. If you want to relax on your patio and listen to Oak Creek, read a book, maybe take a hike or two, open a bottle of wine (or three) and forget all about the outside world, then you found the right place. They book up pretty quickly so if you need reservations, you need to think ahead. I have found it has been easier to call up and see what they have then change my schedule accordingly. read more

Looks like i never finished this review from Sept 2017 (the time of our honeymoon!). Oops! This was the most delightful lodging experience I've ever had. We stayed in Mary's House, which was very private, clean, and downright beautiful!!! I would ABSOLUTELY stay there again. This room is their biggest, I think, and could fit quite a few people in it. It would be awesome to go with extended family for board games and such. Wish I could recall more specifics for my review, but they were very friendly and it was probably my best lodging experience (a unique kind of experience of course, different (for me, better) than a typical hotel stay and much better than an airbNb). Let me start off by saying that I booked the Oak House less than a month in advance, so it was already too late to cancel. Probably the best thing that could have happened. About a week after I booked, I received a letter in the mail with information on everything from Pet Policy and potential bugs and critters, to every single accommodation in the house. Helpful and informative, with a very personal touch. A few days later, I received another letter stating that there was construction in the town of Sedona that MIGHT cause traffic and make getting to my destination a little trickier. The day comes for me to leave, I pack up and ship out, and make it all the way through Sedona (a good 90+ minute drive), with no traffic problems. But, wouldn't you know it, my car overheats. Apparently, my radiator cap decided to have a sense of humor and escaped like a convict somewhere on that two-lane highway. So, I'm just a few miles from where I'm supposed to be, and I'm stuck on the side of the road. Immobile, worried (mainly because my kids are with me), and without cell reception, I made a last ditch effort to travel the last few miles to my destination. I dumped a gallon of water in my unpressurized cooling system, crossed my fingers, and got back on the road. Within a few minutes, I approached a kneeling horse statue, across the street from a giant "Forest Houses" billboard-like sign. I turned in, almost in perfect sync with my temperature gauge returning to its peak. I made it to the front office quickly, shut off the car, and approached Wendy, the sweet lady working the desk. She could tell something was off. I told her that I was checking in, apologized for seeming a bit diatraught, and explained my situation. Wendy took every opportunity to make things easier. She explain where we would be staying, made check in a breeze, and even went to the extent to find me the number to the car part store back in town. The number that she wrote down was accompanied by the owner's personal cell number, who was going to visiting the town in the morning. She directed me to call both numbers, first thing in the morning, to orchestrate finding the part, and having the owner, Bob, pick it up and bring it back with him. The truly amazing part, to me, was that when I was returning from the landline the next morning, after making my calls, my story had been overheard by a pair of employees (mother and son). The son had stopped me and said "are you the guy missing the radiator cap?". I said yes, gave him a brief summary of the events from the day before, and asked if there was any chance he was going to town. He said, "no, but I think I have an extra radiator cap in my car." I was very skeptical. 1. Who has an extra radiator cap laying around, and 2. What are the chances that it would actually fit on my vehicle?? Well...he did, and it did. Long story short (I know, too late), that place, that staff...was and is amazing!!! My little girls and I formed a ton of memories, a memory card full of breathtaking photos, and a special bond with this place. The staff there, having put my worries to rest, enabled us to relax, which was the entire reason for the trip in the first place. The landscape and scenery there is majestic, the cabin was gorgeous and remote, and the people...well, that was the icing on the cake. Forest Houses is an absolutely exceptional place!!! It was great to get away from the sound and speed of a big city, to get recharged from being "unplugged". I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who loves peace and quiet, appreciates way more than the usual amenities, and doesn't mind being off the grid. Take some time off, call and book a cabin, don't even think about canceling it, and experience this incredible place for yourself. I've stayed here with another guest previously at the Cook House (odd layout btw) in 2013. I did not make the reservation for this stay. Wanting to experience another house on the resort, I thought I'd try making reservation since my first stay was made by someone else. There is no online reservation available so you must call. Every time I tried to call for a reservation no one ever picks up the phone. I got a voice mail asking to leave a message with your name and phone number. I called last year in 2014 to try and book a reservation and left a message and never received a call back. I wanted to try them again this year in 2015 and left a message, two days go by and no return call. I call again, get the answering service and leave another message. Finally, I get a message the next day. When I return the call, I get the answering message AGAIN...so frustrating. After a few tries, I give up. I'll take my business elsewhere. I hesitate to review/recommend this place as it's hard enough to get a reservation! However, I have to say, this place is wonderful! Tucked away in the middle of Oak Creek Canyon it is a small grouping of cabins. Each cabin is unique and self contained. There is no TV, no phone, no stereo and virtually no cell phone reception. The few folks I"ve run into and chatted with have been coming up here for years! A lady this morning told me she and her husband had been coming for 20 years!! If you are looking for a VERY quiet place to escape to, this is the place. Pets are even welcome! The owners/managers are really nice and helpful. There are tons of board games and books in the office and a lovely well marked trail from this property to the Junipine Lodge. I have already booked other visits!! read more

I have stayed here MANY times, i LOOOVE this place annnd it is dog friendly, i have 6 doggies so that's a good thing! it is nestled right in oak creek canyon right next to a beautiful stream..it is really a hidden secret place. i tell everyone about it that i can..The cabins are all so nice with full kitchen's, bedding just bring your food and toothbrush, and it is NICE, not some cheesy 70 cabins but cozy, romantic makes you wanna stay in bed with someone good all morning. there is tons of hiking close by and the town is 10 minutes away.. also the ppl that i own it are the sweetest ever, they have books at the front an games that you can take back to your cabins.. the prices are VERY reasonable, it books up some times up to a year in advance for certain cabins but look at there website to see it all.. you will kiss me for it later!!! read more

We've been coming to the Forest Houses for almost 12 years and we are in LOVE. We've stayed at about 75 of the beautiful cabins built on private property and right on the creek. Nestled in the woods, it's a few miles past Slide Rock and because it's on private property expect to be left alone (bliss.) It almost feels like paradise, it's so beautiful and so well taken care of. We've stayed in the Trout House, Bridge House, Cloud, Diamond House, the list goes on and on. If you are loud, have unruly children this place is NOT for you. If you want peace, this place IS for you! No phone, no t.v., no internet - so bring a book and really good company because the Forest Houses is a place to rest up, reconnect and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. read more

An amazing place to find some peace in a world full of distractions. While my fiancé and I were initially hesitant about zero WiFi, we actually found relief from not being distracted by our phones and gadgets. My fiancé and I stayed at the Cook House. We were blown away by how serene and clean the cabin was. The Cook house was very spacious and all the rooms were absolutely beautiful. Our bedroom had a a queen sized sleep number which was very comfortable. Furthermore, the bathroom had both a whirlpool tub and a shower! The kitchen had all the dishes and utensils that we needed for cooking. The living room was fairly large and perfect for our game night needs. Bob and Jenny, are wonderful. They will help you with anything you need and are very understanding. Jenny even recommended some great hikes in Sedona that my fiancé and I tried. It looks like it would be a nice place to stay. But I can only review their customer service which I'm basing on the 4 messages I left over a 3 and a half week time frame and the 1 returned phone call I got advising that they didn't have the house we wanted available for that time. I mentioned that we were willing to split up into smaller homes and she didn't either care or wasn't listening because she didn't even try to make that work. She did give me websites for other places in the area so they'll get our business instead for this year and all subsequent visits we make to the area. I'm not about to deal with calling over and over again to the point where I feel like I'm becoming a nuisance. Too bad, was looking forward to starting a tradition there. read more

Some 28 years ago ... my wife and I (newlywed) lived at Forest Houses. We lived in the " Rock House." We had a small porch, perched above Oak Creek. Many trout were pulled in during the time we lived there. We had a great, stone patio, a dog a cat ..some mice, but they became less once we got the cat. We lived in a CANYON, cool summer days,snow in the winter..great swimming holes to enjoy with or without bathing suits. Just down the path, the head of the A.B. Young trail, that would switchback to the rim of the canyon. Materials for the home came from the property .... All Stone ...walls, floors, walks etc. woodburning stove, two bedroom tiny kitchen and bath ..... but an awesome, place to live. We had our own little fire department, play fields.. frisbee, star gazing. We watched a full eclipse of the moon with the other residents of Forest Houses. Music, hummingbirds .... the creek ..... I am sure it is well kept, and updated. It Is a must ! ...seek PEACE ! read more

NOT dog friendly (even though they claim to be), their cleaning company they use do a poor job AND lie. My husband and I stayed in the Cook house (weird layout btw) with our daughter and two dogs. Per their agreement we covered ALL the furniture with sheets we brought just in case our dogs got on the furniture (which they didn't) while staying there ALL the drains kept backing up, the heater didn't work and the gas stove/oven wasn't working properly. I brought this up to Tom at the front desk and this issue was not fixed during our stay. Despite these concerns we tried to enjoy our time their, we spent most of the time away from the cabin hiking in beautiful Sedona. After being home a few days I received our pet deposit back... Then a few days later we received a letter claiming we left the place "COVERED" in dog hair and that it took the cleaning people 3 hours to clean place. 1. we only used one of the beds, never even touched the murphy bed... so the cleaning people are obviously LIEING that there was dog hair all over the "beds" 2. WE COVERED EVERYTHING WITH SHEETS!! be brought 3 sets of our own king size sheets. Qe took all the sheets off of everything AFTER we swept a final time (with the dogs in the car) the day we left. so there is no way the amount of hair they claim was there could have actually have been there we followed their instructions! 3.we striped the bed before we left. we also put all the things that needed to be laundered in a pile for ease of access for the cleaning crew... Sooo.. if their was hair on the beds, it was from a previous customer! 4. When we FIRST got there, there was already garbage in the trash cans and under the couches.. We have a 10 month old so we check for things like this... babies need a clean environment to not harm themselves! SO obviously the cleaning crew is not thorough.. (especially not "3 hours" thorough. (the letter we cot claimed it took them 3 hours to clean one of the smallest places they offer to stay in... lets do the math... you had "11" buildings to clean from 11 am [however we checked out early so really they had more time] to 3 pm... it seems to me that your tiny cleaning crew was just making excuses for being obviously overworked. 5. my two "large dogs".. I don't have 2 large dogs.... I have a medium sized dog and a larger dog... this gets me to thinking the cleaning crew MAY have confused our cabin with the "Studio" cabin next to us, where those people had two HUGE dogs that were HAIRY like their hair was a foot long hairy. AND those dogs were LOUD; always barking... maybe THAT house had hair all over it... again.. bad cleaning people not taking proper notes for the proper houses. 6. We were barely there!, we spent most of our time out of the cabin in Sedona hiking and enjoying ourselves, the dogs were only there in the cabin when we were, and with us, we brought their own dog beds which they slept on... (the cleaning crew obviously LIED or were super confused as to which "house" they were cleaning....) 7. IF the hair was such a problem WHY would you return the pet deposit, isn't the whole point of a pet deposit to cover any extra work or repairs a pet can cause???? If it truly did take 3 hours to clean less then 1000 ft place, then wouldn't that extra $40 accommodate the workers? ... 8. I tried multiple times to call and discuss this issue with the owner BOB who sent us the letter but have not received a phone call back. They are HORRIBLE about returning phone calls. * if they wanted to "BAN" my dogs for being "aggressive" (our shepherd IS protective of our baby) that's one reason, but to say we left the house trashed and covered in hair is a LIE. we left that cabin in better shape then what we walked into What seemed to be a pretty good vacation in beautiful Sedona leaves a bad taste in your mouth after this crappy ordeal. We had originally told our family that we should plan a big family trip there next year, but we will be finding other accommodations for stay after this experience! read more

We stayed in the View House and we loved it. This place was quiet and cozy. Beautiful hiking trail just steps from our accommodations. West fork trail just up The road. The houses came equipped with all the basic needs and plenty extra blankets, pillows, free firewood and kindling. It's definitely a rustic feel but without sacrificing comforts. Our only complaint was the sleep number beds. We are maybe just not used to them but we both hated them. The staff was wonderful, friendly, accommodating. Overall, we LOVED this place and although it was so sad to leave the location, we missed our comfy bed. read more

Worst customer service i have ever received in my life. I have never filled out any review on a business before but i was treated so poorly by Kathleen on the phone that i had to write a review. I am in a community service organization looking to host an event at this location when i asked if they could accommodate us she laughed and said "we can't do that you should google it okay bye-bye" when i called back and asked for a managers information she said she could not give me that information. She then took down my phone number and said someone would contact me if they wanted to and hung up. WORST customer service i have ever received i will never be using this location again. We come here every year, we call this our dogs vacation, but it is great for everyone. It is the best place to take your dog on vacation. We have stayed in the View, diamond, tree house and our regular cabin, the barn house. When you go here all you have to take with you is your food and clothes. They supply everything else, they even have books and board games you can borrow. These are separate cabins and each have their own small yard, bbq grill, microwave coffee maker. They don't have televisions but we take our laptop and movies to watch. I cannot describe how great these cabins are they are clean, and beautiful. In addition, they are always improving them. When we started staying in the Barn house it was a one bedroom, the bedroom was upstairs, with a spiral staircase, our dogs could not go up so we slept on roll away beds downstairs. last year they added a bedroom downstairs (yahoo, we get to sleep on a real bed) this year, they totally remodeled the kitchen and both bathrooms, it just keeps getting better. You do have to book quite a bit ahead of time but it is worth the wait. We have the same cabin booked the same days every year. They are right on Oak creek and there is a walking trail behind that goes down to the creek. You owe it to yourself to visit this place. In addition the house we stay in is only $130.00 a night, you cant get a hotel for that price. They have houses that sleep from 2 up to 6 (I think, it might be 8) read more

We have been customers/friends of the Forest Houses Resort for over three years. My family and I have stayed in the Rock House, Creek House, Diamond House, and many other homes on the property at a minimum of three times a year. When we stay at the Forest Houses Resort we also reserve 2 - 3 houses, and come up with dear friends or family every visit. We used to at one point just loved the Forest Houses Resort. The Forest Houses Resort was once a place that encouraged the same family believes and traditions to all their guests. For example, to encourage this same belief and standing, any reservation you have with the Forest Houses Resort you are guaranteed the same weekend in the years to follow. It is a great way to plan ahead and make wonderful memories. Now in January 2009, on our yearly planned trip to celebrate and wrap up a wonderful holiday season and play in the snow we stayed here in the Forest Houses Resort with a reservation of three homes. We were sharing our reservations with some dear friends for their 1st time, however the 3rd home would be vacant so my husband called December 2 to cancel the 3rd home and confirm our other two homes. It has always been a policy to cancel your reservation 31 days in advance. We had done so. To fulfill this obligation in canceling reservations, you must call the Forest Houses Resort; however every time you do call you will always reach only the answering machine. We left a detailed message and because of our history and relationship with the Forest Houses Resort this service had never before have been an issue. When we checked in the owner charged us for the third room, my husband defended his actions and indicated he had done his due diligence to cancel the 3rd reservation correctly. The owner was disappointed in the result of the 3rd cancellation, my husband offered to split the cost of the 3rd reservation because my husband was confident he had done what he was supposed to do in the Forest Houses Cancellation policy and to share responsibility and uphold our existing relationship with the Forest Houses Resort. However the owner told my husband to "forget it, and enjoy our weekend." Upon checkout several days later, the owner told my husband he was cancelling all our future reservations (which we had 5 for 2009) and he was no longer welcome back to the resort. In shock, my husband apologized for any inconvenience and misunderstanding and offered to pay for the 3rd reservation in full. The owner stated "it was too late and should have offered that when we checked in." During this conversation I was in the car, my husband joins me back in the car and gives me the disheartening news of our revoked invitation to return. I went into the office to personally speak with the owner and asked for solitude and what could I do to make this situation correct. I pleaded with the owner of how we loved this placed and prided ourselves this was a place we were going to continue to visit for many years with our 9 year old and now brand new baby whom is 10 months old, and many friends and family. The owner said there was nothing to do "and that my daughters and I can come and stay but without my husband" and then he continued to repeat inappropriate things of my husband. I stayed quiet and in shock, all I could think have been what about our children how much they love this place and we promised we would always return. In thinking this, I refused to allow myself to stoop to the owner behavior because I did at one point cherish our relationship with the Forest Houses Resort. I wished the owner a Happy New Year, and because he was crude, insulting, hateful, and inappropriate, and I left the office immediately to relieve myself of any further insults from this owner that we once used to call a friend and family. In a time in life when you can be a part of an organization and be called a friend instead of a customer or a number, we believed we had that solitude with the Forest Houses Resort. We are extremely disappointed that a business owner could be so cruel to a family even after we had tried to make every attempt to rectify any misunderstanding or miscommunications. We are disappointed that a place we were so excited and proud to continue to visit year after year, and we had brought our business and as well as business of so many friends and family (because we advocated on behalf of Forest Houses Resort for so many years) has ended so rudely, cruelly, and full of malice. We have since then mailed a letter to the owner as well as proof that we called December 2, (by via detailed phone bill) to the owner. I can not describe with words how nice this place really is! If you go to Sedona try to reserve a house ahead of time. instead of paying a lot more money or the same amount for nothing comparable, please consider this place. If you for luxury, go elsewhere! The furniture may be a little old for you. But at least these houses are CLEAN. For me it is very important to stay in a clean place. Many hotels don't even change the cover sheet of the bed or you can see that the bathroom not clean enough or they have old carpet. Anyway these things bug me a lot and I want to make sure that I am staying in a clean place. In the kitchen you will find everything, even a rolling pin and a turkey baster. Yes! We stayed in the Diamond house. I loved the view from the windows and a comfortable beds as well that you can set up with a remote control based on your preference (you like to sleep on soft or hard bed). I could continue to write this review for hours, we actually spend half of our day talking about how cool is this place and how lucky we are to be here. So those who write 4 stars or less, I am not sure what could have that was better then this compared to the price they have payed for it. Check the prices of the Juniper and you will understand my point. + that place is not even close to be a charming place with view from your window.
