We have been going to Cindy for around 15 years and she is fabulous both with my dogs and my own schedules. Anyone complaining about her not being open all the time was a very bad year or so for her as she lost her husband unexpectedly and had to work through her grieving process. Those of us that knew her and her husband just backed off a little and gave her the time she needed. She is a lovely lady and a friend now and she is doing well and very busy back to work. My dogs just love her and she does a fabulous job with them so for those of you that have left negative reviews please allow some Grace to others around you if you don't know their situation. Our golden retriever (Frank) is five years old and never been to a professional groomer. We bathe and comb him regularly, but he was becoming a hot mess! We have been to Messy Mutts before for self bathing (great facilities), but decided it was time to see what a professional could do with him. Also, Frank is a nervous nelly so we were not sure how he would do with strangers. Both Frank and the groomers did great and we were blown away (in a good way) with the results. He looks like he came off the Westminster runway! He will be getting groomed regularly from now on. read more

Call before you go, but they still might not answer so leave a message. The lights are often off during their "open hours" and the door's locked. It's too bad, this is a nice place to go for a dog wash. But I made 4 trips in a row to their shop during open hours and found it closed. Several times a printed sign in the window said they were closed for that day. Update: When I left a message asking whether they were closed, someone did call me back to confirm they're open. And then they got upset and essentially called me a liar, as if I hadn't driven my dog to their door several times and found it locked. Yep, it's all just a part of my diabolical plan.... get serious, and make sure your light's on and the door's unlocked if you're open. read more

This place is best for just bathing and drying your dog yourself. Any other services I wouldn't trust. We have standard poodles and recently made an appt. for their nails to be trimmed and to clip 'poodle feet'. Any groomer should know precisely what 'poodle feet' means. There is a very definite way to do it. They clipped to high up the ankle and did a very poor job of clipping all the hair between the toes and the pads. Now we have bloody, razor- burned feet to deal with for the past 4 days. I would go back to bathe them myself but never for any other grooming service. read more

We'll never go here again. My wife and I have an Old English Sheepdog that we brought in to Messy Mutts. It's summer time right now so we wanted him shaved down. They shaved all but his face for some reason. They left his face to be some kind of strange poodle looking thing. Some groomers do this because there is a myth that the sheepdogs require the extra hair over the eyes to protect their sight. So while I'm used to groomers leaving hair over his eyes, I still don't understand why she didn't cut the side of his face or ears - both spots prone to matting. I didn't we exactly mind when they did this, but when I very meagerly said we needed his face shaved as well the groomer became very abrupt, told me I was making an odd request, and pouted as she manhandled and dragged my dog back to the grooming area to finish the job. On a side note, even if that monstrosity was what I'd asked for, I still would have had her fix it because the length of the hair was patchy and uneven. To make matters worse, the place is filled with pee pockets - corners with large pee stains in the concrete and carpet. Again, not really a problem because this is a dog groomers afterall, but when my dog marked his territory on a wet puddle of pee, the groomer complained to my wife that I hadn't "disciplined" my dog. I saw what she meant by "discipline" as she was yanking him and yelling at him all throughout fixing the haircut. I should have known something was wrong with how they'd treated him because when I got to the groomers to retrieve him, my dog was terrified to even let her take him out of his kennel. Messy Mutts is designed to be a self-bathing facility, which seems appropriate. In my experience the staff scoffs at work, are horrible at interacting with the public as well as the dogs, and are better off allowing their customers complete their own service. read more

Hershey got banned from Pet Smart in Yakima (she weighs all of 8 pounds so I am not sure why), but the folks at Messy Mutts handled her beautifully and she always comes back looking like a champ. Awesome place! read more

I've been taking my Yorkie Pomeranian here for over 2 years now, he hates going, but they do a wonderful job!! He always smells wonderful afterwards in the cute little bandana they put on him. They are wonderful and I would recommend them to anyone with a fluffy dog like mine. read more

After a too many bad experiences with our local groomer, my daughter and I took our 4 yr. old English Cocker Spaniel to Messy Mutts. Wow! The facility is big, bright, and (overall) clean - unlike the dark, dirty garage set-up we were used to. The staff were quite busy but came right out to help us. Not only did they do EXACTLY what we asked for but our little pup came out happy, energized, and wearing cute little bows on her ears. The cut was first rate too - no going home only to find large tufts of fur that were missed. We will be using Messy Mutts from now on - despite that fact that we have to drive almost 30 miles to get there. Yep, it's that good! read more

Messy mutts is the best dog groomers in ellensburg. Cindy is a huge perfectionist, and that is a good thing when it comes to dog grooming! She is always so kind to her customers and I feel welcomed whenever I come in. I've been bringing my dog in for a while now and he always comes out looking so adorable. Stay away! The employees are extremely rude and condescending. The employees yelled at the dogs in the kennels to "shut up" with me standing there! I shudder to think what they do when humans aren't there. The establishment is filthy and smells awful. Hair and dust are on everything in thick layers. Vet offices are not anywhere near this dirty. Neither are local humane societies. I don't think this place has been dusted or vacuumed or cleaned ever. I wanted my dogs washed and dried and toenails trimmed. My dogs were shaking and bolted for the door when they were finished. One of them wasn't even completely dried. My dogs shivered and huddled near me until the following day. Very odd behavior for my dogs who are around people all the time in various environments. I will not be returning and would never recommend this "business" to anyone. read more

Took my dogs their to get a bathed and one of the two groomed. The groomer butchered my dog. All i asked for was to trim her back end feathers and she ended up chopping her ears, legs, belly and her backside. It looks like my 5 year old cousin got a hold of some scissors and went to town. So unhappy i will never take them here again. read more

Cindy always does a great job with my dog. He never wants to go inside and he is very difficult (granted, most dogs hate the groomers) but she still finishes the job no matter how much of a pain he is. They are always booked out for days so make sure to make an appointment! This place is crazy popular. Whenever I come in there are dogs whining and barking very loudly but she still comes out with a smile and greets the customers no matter how stressful it might get back there. It took me 13 years and 3 different Cavalier King Charles to find a place that grooms my dog just how I want him. I will now only take my dog to Messy Mutts because they do such an amazing job and it is well priced. read more
