Date of visit: January 9, 2026 I had some time before my haircut a few doors down in this shopping center and while I normally do Metro Market, this grocery store was just more conveniently located and allowed me to park just once. The store definitely has a small town feel about it, and I don't think that's on accident. I really felt like this was a place where many of the staff is familiar with their regular customers and maybe that's why the cashier (Tana, I believe) wasn't particularly friendly, because she did not recognize me. I was able to score some Valentine's Day cards and also found a bar of clearance soap, so I was feeling pretty good about my purchases overall. If I was in this area again, I wouldn't be opposed to stopping here again to pick up some things. read more

Their HQ is in Madison and it's great to have some Madison treats available in Milwaukee, like Stella's Spicy Cheese bread. A few of my favorite things about the store: Great selection of cold deli salad and pre-made dinners, great for whatever dinner energy level you have. Their veggie & fruit selection is top notch, with dedicated staff making sure the best selection is out. To the left of the entrance upon entering, there are great deals on meat and seafood to start you on your shopping journey. Their bakery goes above and beyond. Have a craving for a chocolate dessert? Pick up one of their Polar Bears and thank me later. P Love a good sale? Don't forget to check out the bins by the checkout lanes for some great sales on discontinued and/or holiday items. read more

One of my favorite places to shop in the area! Great selection of products, especially the local items, which are identified with the "miles" signs that show how far the food has traveled. The produce selection is fresh and plentiful, they have a good selection of NA spirits and beers, and lots of great prepared foods. Any time I'm in the area, I stop in to shop! read more

Shop here at least once a week. The staff is wonderful. They're welcoming, helpful and friendly. They recognize and greet my family. It is clean and organized very well. Always fresh items. Not sure if they're under new management, but they've taken away many vegan options which has made me start shopping at different grocery stores instead. Disappointing. read more

Really nice grocery store variety of produce products and snacks. They also have a pretty large selection of alcohol, beverages, both beer and liquor and a really large selection of wines there too. Their meat and seafood is also really good quality whether shrimp or steaks, and sometimes they have a decent sale going for those protein items. Their staff is always really helpful and willing to help as well. read more

(From September 2021) I expected Wisconsin things at this market and they have them in bunches. Large selections of deli meats, cheeses, brats, and packaged fresh veggies were impressive. The market also has a diverse hot foods bar, pasta kiosk, and sandwich shop. Also a lot of products from local vendors and farmers which give you a true feeling of West-kahn-sion (pronounced by some of the citizens). Some of these items are higher on the scale of cost but that's to be expected with the vendors involved. The state and this neighborhood are lucky to have this market within their neck of the woods. read more

I'm still craving a good Italian sandwich with some prosciutto for the work week but I didn't feel like fighting the Cermak crowds so I thought I would check out the deli. I looked at the weekly flyer and I saw Neys prime rib patties so now I'm going for sure, I had a burger from the Neys booth at the Brookfield farmers market and kicked my self for not getting them because they were good and as far as I knew they are only at the farmers market or a $100 minimum mail order was the only way to buy them. The store itself has the same flavor of all the other premium grocery stores with a great deli, fresh produce, salad bar, hot bar, sea food, bakery, hot food restaurant etc etc. Not all stores have fresh sliced prosciutto and they did so I got some along with mortadella, hot capocollo, Asiago cheese and three cheese beard which will work for Italian sandwiches. I'm used to the imported versions of these meats so I really hope the Boars Head brand is edible and at least taste like the premium Italian deli meat sandwich that I'm craving, at $36 a pound for all three we will see. The restaurant is an Asian one with the specialty of bowls along with sushi and other hot Asian dishes. The bakery department looked so good that I left with some bread and a carrot cake. The seafood department looked really good and after getting burned at other stores with spoiled seafood I might just give them a try. I got right up to the deli and right up to check out unlike the other deli I go to and parking was 3 cars away from the door so the whole experience was enjoyable. Overall I like the store and I found items that were comparable to other stores with ground beef for tacos at $2.99 a pound, the Neys prime rib patties were $2.01 cheaper per pound than at the farmers market, the Italian deli meats were similar priced as the other deli I get them at. I will have to keep an eye on future purchases but the items I left with today didn't seem noticeabaly higher for what I left with. read more

BUYER BEWARE: STORE WILL ACCEPT ZERO LIABILITY FOR DAMAGING YOUR PROPERTY! Prior to moving out to Waukesha County last year, I used to frequent Metcalfe's Curbside Delivery service on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. I have severe arthritis and enjoyed the drive up service; would tip delivery workers around the holidays or if I had an excessive amount of heavy items. I received an email from the store "We miss you!" so planned a special trip to pick up my grocery shopping needs and drove the 45 minutes one way to pick up my order. Upon arrival, an associate brought the cart out and immediately pushed the button to open the latch on my automatic trunk. In every other experience with Metcalfe's, they will check with you where you want your groceries and I always have mine placed in the backseat. I leaned my head out of the door to say "back seat please", the woman got flustered and slammed the trunk down manually with her hands, causing it to pop half way back up. She went around to the side and continued to load by tossing the groceries on to the back seat - items strewn about and falling to the floor. She also told me my trunk was still hanging open, I pushed the button internally to close it. Halfway back home, the store associate called and left me a voicemail to apologize for the disastrous delivery - she had also forgotten a bag of groceries. When I arrived home, I opened the trunk to a very broken trunk actuator - the plastic piece inside the trunk latch was shattered when she had manually attempted to slam the trunk closed. I called the store because I was very upset about my experience and spoke to assistant store manager. He had advised that he would review the video back, Of which he did so and confirmed at that time that they had seen the actions on the videotape. He put me in touch with the store Director, who was the kindest person I have spoken with during this experience. He was the only person to apologize for the inconvenience caused and told me that he would have their insurance company follow up regarding the liability damages. I was very relieved when said insurance company reached out to me a few days later, and was hopeful that we would have this incident taken care of quickly - The store associate caused accidental damage to my vehicle right after Christmas so money was tight and a $600 repair bill was not in the budget. I have now been playing runaround with Metcalfe's insurance company for over a month and now the claims agent has stated the store has flip-flopped and no longer accepting liability. Why waste all of my time? The insurance company reached out to ME because the store directed them to do so. So as a loyal customer for years, I get to have damage done to my vehicle (captured on their security camera, mind you), and deal with a incredible lack of empathy or care in the world. How would these store leaders or insurance claims agents enjoy spending hard-earned money with a company you went out of your way to visit, have accidental, but without a doubt liable damage, done your vehicle on the property of the establishment by a store associate of the establishment, and then just have to chalk it up to a $600 life lesson? Really sad. A lovely Saturday morning grocery shopping experience turned into a $600 nightmare in auto repair and time off of work for my to take care of the damage. I am so disappointed in Metcalfes and will tell Everyone about this experience, because it really demonstrates how very little they value loyal customers. read more

Administration in this local supermarket does allow people to come to the store without facial mask in the midst of a large pandemic in January, of 2021. I brought the issue today with some employees of the grocery store and there was no action taken sorry but I won't be back...Why to bother to have post about enforcing masks if they're not going to play by the rules!!! read more

Sentry/Metcalfe's market is a reliable grocer that you can depend on having what you need when you stop in. The butcher case always has something delectable, including but not limited to various fresh fish and nice cuts of beef, like Choice or Angus NY Steak. Pricing can be high at times, so you have to be a knowledgeable shopper if you are the type that wants value before quality. The produce section is tended to lovingly by the produce clerks who hand stack fruits and vegetables; i.e., they don't take a box of fruit or veggies and dump it into a bin. IMHO, though, you have to be careful when buying produce. I can't tell you how many times I've bought citrus; both oranges and lemons, only to find out, once home and cut/opened up, that it is dry as a wrung-out wash cloth inside. I've never had to wait a long time at check out. They always seem to have enough clerks and box boys available to handle any crowd. I give Metcalfe's kudos, too, for hiring folks who might be disabled physically or challenged socially. The liquor department has a pretty good selection of spirits, wine and beer but, again, if you are a value shopper, you need to know your prices; I've seen both spirits and certain vineyard bottled wines priced as much as thirty per cent above what I would consider "in the ball park" pricing. Parking is abundant and never an issue at this location. read more

Metcalfe's Market is the best "big grocery" store near us - it's at least 10,000 times better than the Pick'N'Save located mere blocks away. *Great produce department with fair prices *Lots of grab/go stuff including a fresh salad bar, a hot bar, roasted chickens, sandwiches and an antipasto bar *Really large liquor department including a pretty decent wine selection *They seem to have everything - when I need a weird ingredient I am almost guaranteed they'll stock it *The deli is quality - Boars Head, a good cheese counter and helpful staff *Cashiers that are actually pleasant *Clean, well organized store and parking lot If you're in East Tosa and need some victuals - SKIP the disgusting PNS and head to Metcalfe's! read more

Oh, marvelous, magnificent Metcalfe's. I came across Metcalfe's in search for a local grocer. They are family owned and operated since 1917 (4 generations of Metcalfe's have owned and operated the Metcalfe grocery stores!). So, firstly, they satisfied my desire to shop local. Thankfully, the goodness does not end there. Metcalfe's is filled to the brim with high quality merchandise. Even their "generic" brand, Essential Everyday, is a brand I've long been a fan of for providing quality, reduced price (vs. the name brands) goods. My favorite things about Metcalfe's: Their deli. When I first moved here I lived in an Airbnb for over a month. It was equipped with a microwave, but no stove/oven. Aside from going out, I virtually lived on food prepared in Metcalfe's deli. They have this turkey meatloaf with corn and mashed potatoes on the side? Amazing. Their deli made queso and guacamole? So yum. Their cheese selection! Maybe I just need to get accustomed to the Wisconsin cheese loving way of life--but, after a couple months of living here, I'm still delighted when I go to Metcalfe's and wander though their expansive cheese selection. They have a huge selection of regional, Wisconsin cheese, in addition to a lesser selection of imported cheeses. The area is always staffed with a cheese expert, who never fails to help me find the perfect cheese to go with or in whatever I'm preparing. Their craft beer selection. In addition to their selection of craft beer on the floor of the liquor/wine/beer area, they also have an impressive refrigerated selection. And, one thing to note--they're not the same. So, if you don't find what you're looking for in the non-refrigerated beer selection, check out the cooler (or vice versa) as they may have it there. I've actually found a bottled bourbon barrel aged stout at Metcalfe's! Nobody every carries bottled bourbon barrel aged stout! Amazing. Beyond that, pretty much everything here is high quality. What isn't my favorite thing about Metcalfe's? The prices are a bit high. But, then again, they offer high quality goods. Get to it! read more

This is my second time here. This market place is big and quiet in the morning than evening. They have so many varies of food and hot food ready to grab and go. So many selections I love it. The staff here are friendly. The place is clean. Not crowded. Everything is easy to look for. They have more than Pick N' Save grocery stores. Free WiFi too. Love this store and its convenient location! Great selection of just about everything. I'm especially appreciative they continue to expand their many meat and dairy alternatives (including vegan cheeses and pizzas). Good organic fruits and veggies, and they offer so many local options, too--the local maple syrup selection is fabulous. The staff is friendly and the store is very clean. They adopted covid precautions early on and while that must be so challenging to navigate, they've done an awesome job. Not to mention their hours, opening at 6am is ideal for early risers. Not the least expensive grocery store, but also not the most expensive. They carry a fair amount of local products and often have demos with samples of new products. The deli offers a great variety of options from meats to salads to hot foods and pre-cooked foods simply needing reheating. They also have a nice fresh salad bar which also features 4 different soups made fresh that day. You can find a small variety of organic and grass fed meats and also some gluten free items. It's not a specialty store, but they do carry a decent inventory of items. I'll often stop in for a quick take-out dinner or to grab a side salad or dessert to take to a party if I don't have time to make something, which is pretty much always. Located on State Street in Tosa, you can pick up your hangover supplies before hitting your favorite watering holes up the street. read more

So I was just in Metcalf's grocery store in Wauwatosa, and for the second time in as many visits lately, there was someone without a mask. (Last time there were 3 customers without masks) He was an elderly man wearing it under his chin. I mentioned something to him and he ignored me. Everywhere I went in the store, he was there before me. At one point an employee came out of the backroom and this guy was by the milk right there and I was headed to the eggs. I mentioned it to her and she said "I'm sorry", then left. Didn't tell the guy to put on his mask. Well, this is the last time I'll be shopping there in a long time. Two strikes and you're out. Too bad, they had been really good up until now. Used to have employees in the aisles "patrolling" and everything else was always so good. read more

I live out of state in Georgia and contacted Metcalfe's via email about mailing a gift card to me to include as an xmas present for my dad, who lives nearby the Wauwatosa store. They called me within a week to take my order over the phone and never charged additional fees for mailing the card to me. I have ordered gift cards from other Wisconsin businesses for my dad and they were not so gracious. BEAUTIFUL and locally owned after their remodel! They have expanded their cheese section and every time I go they have the same lady, resident cheese expert, on duty. She's quick to ask if you need help and is very friendly and knowledgable. They also now have a coffee "shop", sushi bar and sandwiches to go. This is my go-to store, and even though there are several other options in the area, this clean and friendly shop will always be my first stop. read more

When you go in the West doors, Jamie greets everyone he can. He is the host at that end of the store. I frequently see Jamie helping customers and answering questions. Perhaps you had a bad day and overreacted a little? Sounds like you were egging him on too. But calling him out by name on the internet? And how do you know the manager you spoke to was a kid? Fish smell near the front doors? Get real. Sounds like you missed your nap. Metcalfe's is a great place to shop. They are now even sanitizing every cart after it is used to help with the virus situation. Jamie is a great team member. read more

Had the WORST customer experience in chz and Meats with Jaime - the tall 50ish man!! This guy was so rude when I was asking about Pate. The guy literally yelled at me when I asked if he had some in back stock. I was looking for the Truffle. He literally stopped wrapping what he was wrapping, rolled his eye, sighed and said " I already told you we dont have any more, whats there is all we have, I cleared out the cold storage this morning, do I need to check it again?" Wow, so I grabbed the Duck Liver but didnt see a price listed on the case or on the item so I asked "how much is this?" He slammed down what he was wrapping and rudely said "The price is right there!" I laughed in disbelief this deli guy was arguing with me and said "No its not!" So he took off his gloves and grabbed the package out of my hand and walked over to customer service to get a price chk, "Its $6.99!" As he swiftly pushed it towards me. Then as I took it I just said "You are super rude and I dont appreciate your behavior!" Right in front of customer service as the lady there just watched, said nothing and turned away. Then Jaime said to me "No Iam not!!" And proceeded to TRY to argue with me again - a customer - in the middle of the deli in front of the customer service desk. I put he pate on the shelf and walked out!! I will never shop here again. This man doesn't even know that type of customer service OUT OF LINE!! When I called and spoke to some kid who was the manager he said "thats weird, really, Jaime is super cool" What?? At that point I totally got it, management is the same way - Anyway, Its the only thing I buy there, its $1 cheaper then Whole-foods and I usually stop by when Iam at the Outpost to pick it up. The extra buck is well worth paying for a better shopping experience . WI is just below par on all customer service compared to CA but Id rather give my cash to someplace who at least trains their people and values its customers opinion. This market offers a nice niche in the competition that is grocery shopping in Milwaukee. It's a solo flier, the selection is good and it offers a few different items that sets it apart. Some of the things I like... --Bountiful supply of meat on special near the entrance. This I like. The prices aren't terribly competitive but the quality makes it a good value. --The inclusion of a grocery store cafe offering a nice variety. --The produce that's available is fresh and stays that way for a few days after you bring it home. -- I find cool stuff there - for example turkey breast tenderloins that are great to cook with. --A nice selection of essential oils and the like that are usually found only at a natural foods store. --They stock Vernors soda, a Detroit favorite that can be hard to find here. I don't get here often enough but am always glad when I make the trek! read more

This is place is close-by so I end up going here most of the time based on its location. They do have weekly specials that do tend to sell some decent cuts of meat at reasonable prices, but that being said... they sell their tenderloin for $30/lb. I know it make be grass fed or something special, but with little effort I can usually find tenderloin for 1/3 of that price. They do have a nice beer and wine selection, and typically have some of the most special brews actually kept cold and not collecting dust on dark shelves. This staff is usually friendly enough, save some of the check-out ladies during the evening rush. read more

I started shopping here because I can't afford shopping exclusively at Outpost and Pick n Save is always such a test of my patience. They have a great selection of everything. I am consistently impressed with all the options. I love the cheese area. I wish I could give kudos to the cheese guy. But I don't recall his name. The deli carries Boar's Head and they always offer you a sample of what you are interested in. I think they have the best floral area I have seen in a grocery store. It's like my favorite Sendik's moved into a store the size of Pick n Save! This review is long overdue. I've never really paid much attention to this store for the first 10 years that I've been living in Tosa. I love me my Sendik's on North Ave but would occasionally need to run to PickNSave for the odd thing that I couldn't find at my usual grocer. Time after time, I would strike out there so on to Sentry I would go to find what I needed every time. It's now been two years since my last PnS visit. Sentry comes through for me each and every time. The one thing that truly stands out about this store is the employees. One does not expect this level of earnest professionalism from employees that probably don't make much over minimum wage. From the deli counter to the checkouts (that are always abundant and open!) you will always be greeted with a pleasant demeanor and genuinely honest smiles. Maybe chalk it up to good management, but if the employees are happy, you know the food you buy has been well treated. I don't want pissed off employees handling the meat and veg (if you know what I mean)! Great selection of produce and bakery. The are a bit average in the meat department, so I typically buy that stuff at Bunzel's. Decent parking and I love the self checkout for when you just need to run in for a few items. read more
