The train is clean, the conductors are gruff, and you get to your destination on time, mostly.

So I've taken the Rock Island line primarily to Chicago and Joliet on commutes because I refuse to…read moredrive to the city in my personal vehicle. Trains I've been on are mostly on time with it's arrival and depart times. I'm used to physical tickets but tried the Ventra app and never realized how smooth that works too when staff comes by to check tickets. Trains can be a hit or miss. Some trains have power outlets while if you're an older model it won't feature them. Trains are primarily clean all around. I recently treated my wife on the Metra for the first time and she enjoyed one trip but disliked the ride there because of a lack of hand sanitizer. Joliet did a great job fixing the transportation center though I would like more busses to featured but you can't beat $1.50 to park there daily. The con is that it's in a bit of a sketchy area dispite it being next to an adult detention facility but you can't beat being in the heart of Joliet either. Hopefully this line gets extended in the future!

I take this train into the city almost every time I need to go downtown. It's clean and pretty…read moreaffordable. I recommend it to any one who hates traffic. During rush hour it takes about 45 to get from one end to the city. No too shabby for rush hour! It's about $6 one way but prices depend on where you pick up the train. Monthly passes are good for regular commuters. The Ten-ride pass is nice for ppl like me who take it often but not everyday. They last for up to a year and buying in 'bulk' like that gives you a discount. Also, make sure you buy your tickets at the station!! The single rides are over $10 if you pay while riding! The station ticket sales people are only there early in the morning. They close shop after rush hour (5 am to 9 am) so make sure you get up early! Only thing is I wish they sold food and drinks on the train. They would make a killing too. I realize that it would need to be a pretty big remodel but that would be so cool! Coffee and pre baked stuff... Starbucks-esque.
