Owner Arlene's customer service is awful. When I went for oil change on Friday after calling to see how long it might take ('not too long' we were told 'if you come now' as we did.) It all went downhill once I picked my car up after after 5.5 hours and no phone call to my cell as is customary when a car is ready for pick up. When I presented my coupon at time of payment (as instructed at drop off) even my 13 year old daughter was taken aback. I was told in a curt manner 'that doesn't apply to your car'. I could go on as words were exchanged and her offensive/ agressive tone we're so off putting. Suffice to say as a business owner, Arlene needs to go to customer service school. At one point as I was told to never bring my or my families car back (this is after I said 'there is no need to be so rude'). In reading the reviews here, it appears this is Arlene's way. Should have read them before we went in. Don't worry Arlene, we won't be back. And don't waste your breath on responding because what I can see is that all your responses are defensive and do not include anything resembling professionalism. read more

I used to come here for oil changes (5w30 semi synthetic for $15) until this year when they arbitrarily doubled the price to $30. Because of the cheap oil change, I could ignore how rude they were and how manipulative they were with pricing (I would bring in a coupon that I just printed from their website and they would NOT honor it) but now I have no reason not to express my concerns. My family and I see how polite they are to all the white people that come for service and how the employees' demeanor changes to aggressive and hostile when we ask the simplest questions or ask why they aren't willing to honor a coupon that had months until it would expire. They also have no knowledge of vehicles and maintenance, indicated by their claim that certain cars can ONLY take full synthetic oil, when that is not at all true (the weight (eg 0w20) is what matters and the different type of blend only changes how long until you next change the oil) and that negative camber is when the top of the tire is angled further out than the bottom (the opposite is true). No matter how cheap the service is do not come here. They give misinformation, charge more than advertised, and are extremely impolite. read more

If I could give less than one star I would. I was a customer of these horrible human beings for years but never ever again after the way I was treated by the "owner". I went in for a simple oil change, I had a busy day ahead of me so I wanted to make sure, before I even left the car, that my wait wouldn't be too long. I understand I can go to a quick lube and be in and out but again, I WAS a customer of these people for many years so I wanted to give them my business. I was told it would be a 45 minute wait, no problem. They used to be always in their time frame. After about a half hour, my car hasn't moved from the parking lot so I knew there would be no way they would have my car done when they said it would. I walked up to the counter and simply asked the kid if they were going to have my car in soon. He told me they only had 2 technicians and it was busy. If he knew there were only 2 technicians and seeing the volume of customers, he was wrong to tell me it would take 45 minutes to do my oil change. I decided at that moment that I couldn't wait any longer and told him they shouldn't tell people it would be a certain amount of time when it clearly won't be even close. He said he would look to see how many cars are ahead of me and came back and made a snide comment of "your ticket was put through only 25 minutes ago but we're gonna get you in now". Did I not say it has been a half hour and my car hasn't moved? Whatever, that should've been the end of it. I went and sat down but no, the owner had to come out on her high horse and attack me "sir! Sir! This is not a quick lube! Obviously you're not a customer of ours!" I stopped her right there to inform her that my family and I have been customers there for YEARS which is why I chose to go there over a quick lube place. I was appalled how she came out of the office to verbally attack a customer sitting in the waiting room. Like I said, when the British kid said they were pulling my car in now, that should've been the end of it. There was absolutely no need for her to come out and attack me so at that moment I decided I was leaving. As I went to the bay to tell them to stop and pull my car around, she followed me continuing to verbally attack me. This is in no way, shape or form how you treat your customers and they just lost customers they've had for over 15 years because the high and mighty owner had to ride her high horse out and attack me. If you're in Dutchess or Putnam County, find someone else to work on your car. Ask around town and you will hear lots of horror stories regarding Metric Motors in Holmes . Basically they could not fix my car ( but said they could ) took forever to get car fixed ( said they were short staffed), gave me a loaner vehicle ( was a junker ), billed me to read the onboard computer ( did not tell me this upfront and most places do this for free ).They had to take my car to the dealer to complete the repair ( and they charged me for the part they couldn't do on top of the original estimate ). The owner told me how he lost money on this job because he had his technician drive the car to the dealer and sat idle at the dealer for hours waiting for the dealer to repair the car. read more

Been going to Metric Motors for years. Recently there has been a change over with new personal running the establishment. The service the last two times (and my last time) have been absolutely horrible. 10 mins standing at the counter while the employee which turned out to be Mike(one of the most rudest person i have ever met in the business) just staring at me totally ignoring me. After a bit he came out to prepare a work order for my oil change.They took my car in on a timely manner and changed my oil. Once again when i walked up to the counter there was nasty Mike eating pizza while a couple of customers and myself waited for him to finnish up. (Another 10 mins). I understand lunch break but go to the kitchen or break room to eat. Don't have customers standing in line while your eating pizza. When he came out he was so nasty to the woman in front of me. I felt so bad for her. You can see how she was so taken aback from his demeanor and nasty comments. She did the right thing and paid her bill and left not saying anything to him.Ten mins to change the oil. I was there for about 1 1/2 hrs for a 10 min oil change. I don't know if nasty Mike is part owner or the owners son(if so i feel bad for the parents) but if the service there keeps going the way it is nasty Mike will be out of a job and begging for quarters on the I84 exit ramp for sure. With quite a few good service stations in the Carmel area there is no reason to be treated like a second class citizen. It's a shame that a good go to place has fallen into non business type people. Word does travel fast in small towns. I certainly will spread the word on all social media. They should be ashamed of themselves. Maybe nasty Mike should look for a job in a pizziarie.Then he can eat all the pie he wants. P.S. the building is also beginning to suffer from neglect. A real shame. I wish my review was or could be about auto work itself but that would involve Metric being able to hold an appointment. Called mid-week to make a Saturday AM tire appointment; went through the tires I needed (so they can correctly order beforehand), cost and appointment time with the manager. Showed up for the appointment, the manager had all my information written down and seemed ready to go. I explained he can simply call me when the car was ready or if I didn't hear back I would resurface around 1pm since they close at 2. He was completely on-board and reminded me that they closed at 2 so I didn't show up too late to pick up the car. I came back at 1pm to find that my car was moved 40 feet with absolutely zero work done. After hiding in the back office for 10 minutes and then "checking on the status"; the manager came back to the checkout counter and lead the conversation with "Don't worry, we will get it done". What does that even mean three hours after my "appointment" and 40 minutes before the shop closes for the weekend? Not to mention that every bay and rack at the time of his comment was in use. I asked for my keys back and left. The manager didn't have much to say at all - didn't even try to pitch a timeline to keep me there. I get it - I'm sure a lot more profitable work walked through the doors between 10am - 1pm on a Saturday. But why take appointments when you don't care or attempt to semi-prioritize work? I'll add a star to my prior review. I came back to have my oil changed, and luckily they weren't busy (only one other customer there when I arrived). However, the oil change took an hour, which is longer than other places. In addition, the receipt did not provide any information about what was checked, needed, topped off, etc. The front desk man was very nice and helpful, so kudos for that. He did mention that the technician would give my car an inspection and let me know if they had any recommendations, but they seemed to rush me out when they were finished and did not mention anything from the alleged inspection. read more

Been bringing my cars there for about 7 years. They got me with the $12.95 (at the time) oil changes. I have found them to be honest - they gave me an estimate for a timing belt and upon completion of the job charged me almost $100 less than the estimate and explained that the timing cover for my car was known to be very difficult to remove but mine came right off so I saved money on labor. Wow, they could have charged me the estimated price with no problem but they didn't. For some stuff they are probably a bit on the expensive side, at least compared to my old neighborhood mechanic in Queens. Jason was always an outstanding service writer to deal with but I understand he's gone so he'll be missed. I keep coming here even though I live further away now because I get piece of mind. read more

I wish I could give this garbage place less than 1 star if that were at all possible. They are rude and play run around games with you. The owner told us that the service writer was fired because he was "unprofessionally handled communication" to us about our vehicle and what was being worked on. This was information that the owner voluntarily go to us to placate. Multiple conversations revealed the fact that my car was not the priority of the shop. Weekly calls for updates were made and each time the same answer was given. The only reason i kept the car in their shop is that most shops were afraid to take a vehicle for electrical issues that took a shop 3+ months to diagnose. At the end of the 4 months Metric Motors reached out to a specialist who solved the issue in a few days. during the time they had it they replaced two parts that were not related making guesses as to what it could be. From a professional aspect, I was told multiple times that they "don't make money from diagnosing" that "people who come in for oil changes and part replacement" makes them money. That putting a tech on my car will take away from their other obviously more important jobs. So my question is- why would you take my vehicle in the first place? Very disappointed that a return ($5000+ job) customer is treated poorly. I certainly will not return. read more

Hands down 100% the worst service I have ever received and the lies just kept coming. Please PM me for a PDF copy of my bill and the over charges and additional not needed or asked for work that they did. They did work that was not necessary and after a $1,000+ "repairs" they did,my car died with a problem that they caused. I think they thought I would come back. Ha ha!! Never! Every time I sit in the waiting room I watch the older generation and women get taken advantage of constantly and consistently. I don't know if there has been one single time I have seen them just fix their particular issue without coming back out to the waiting room with many other issues they have found. I understand that's business and they're trying to max profit but it's obvious based on seeing it happen so consistently. They do good work but are sneaky as hell. Have been told one thing from one of the workers and a totally different thing from another and it seems to be a trend amongst others as well that I have spoken to that go there or went there for service. Inconsistent service. Like someone else said, a lot of things I had to have redone after they had been "fixed" here. This is literally the closest mechanic to my house and when my alternator died I just brought it here. They "replaced it" and it literally did the same thing- aka it had never been replaced. Where to begin- brought our truck in for a new clutch was told a certain price and amount of days..went over on both..not the end of the world. Went to pick up the truck not even a mile down the road all gauges drop and we need to being it back. Over a month later only after making a BBB complaint did they call to say the truck was ready after we had checked several times since that's the only way to get an update from them. Now is where the nightmare really begins. We had to get the truck after hours due to the work schedule, get there dead battery, they left the key in accessory, so now we have to jump start it. Speedometer not working. Drive it to work, smoke EVERYWHERE! the thing is nearly on fire at this point. Bring it to another mechanic who told us the clutch line melted to the motor..the brand new clutch line that we spent over a thousand dollars and waited over a month to have fixed melted to the motor. Quality work...i think not. Call Metric and they say bring it back--your kidding after what we went through we would bring the truck back!?! OH and to boot they actually asked when we could send the loaner back...oh i don't know how about once our vehicle is fixed. Not to mention there is only one person there competent enough to answer the phone properly and address questions, if you get the woman on the phone your screwed, as she told us our truck was "done for" and someone wold contact us, sparking the BBB complaint that they asked us to take down! There should be less than a 1 star rating option for this place. Typical "rob her" auto shop mentality. My wife gets her oil changes there, out of convenience. She was told she needed a new oil pan, the screw is stripped. No leaks, no problem, no way. I need a screw, not to be screwed!! I'll take care of it myself, my wife told them. On the off chance that I don't go to Metric Motors for an oil change or any other kind of service, I instantly regret my decision. The combination of quality service for a fantastic price makes Metric Motors the best place to take your car in Putnam County or southern Dutchess. I've probably never waited for more than hour, and I've never had a worker approach me about a "fantastic, can't miss deal" going on or suggest that I do something small yet pricey to my car. We always get coupons in the mail for some sort of service (although it's always ridiculously cheap anyways) and I always walk out feeling confident that my car was in good hands, not the mention that staff is really efficient and always friendly. DO NOT GO THERE!!! These people will give you the run around for months!!! My car was towed there, they kept it for 5 weeks, didn't fix it properly, gave it back with a different key and no remote. 6 weeks later, they gave me a remote that couldn't be programmed for my car. Finally, after 12 and 1/2 weeks of dealing with them, they sent me the right remote. This was the worst experience of my 40 years of dealing witn car repair shops. read more

My brother had used metric to get his oil changed in his BRAND NEW Hyundai yesterday. About ten miles after picking the car up from his scheduled oil change the car EXPLODED on 312 just down the road from the shop. When Hyundai looked over the car he was informed that there was NO OIL in the vehicle and the motor was seized , the car totaled. This was ONE HOUR AFTER HIS OIL CHANGE. When we asked the owner ARLENE to give us paperwork on the vehicles "recall" that she claimed was the reason for the incident however when we proceeded to ask her where she had got this information there was no source available and then she went on and she proceeded to say "well it's not our fault all Hyundai's explode, my daughters is outside with an exploded engine" IN THE RUDEST MOST UNPROFESSIONAL WAY. Completely unacceptable way to speak to returning costumers. The car was brand new, ironically exploded with no oil in the vehicle an hour after getting a "new" oil change and they take ZERO credit in the malfunctioning on the vehicle. The owner of this establishment should be absolutely ashamed of taking young adults money and ruining there hard worked and earned property and Arlene and those people at metric don't even care . If you love the vehicle you own do not take it to people who don't care like metric motors. Do research before just trusting your local shop!!!! read more

I have been with Metric for many (15?) years and 3 cars. They have taken very good care of my cars. No one is perfect, so there are occasional glitches, but overall, they have been pretty terrific. They have gone through quite a number of front desk people, which saddens me, because I had a favorite who is gone. He was there every day. I knew who I was talking to, and he knew me and my car. Now, you never know who you are going to get on the phone. read more

Metric Motors is receiving one star because I cannot leave 0. I dropped my vehicle off for rear brakes, rotors, and pads. Time quoted for the job was 2 hours. I even made sure that dropping off the vehicle at 9am would get me out the door by 1130am. 4 days later, my vehicle was finally done. The staff here has little to no knowledge of what the mechanics are doing. The day I dropped my vehicle off, after 5 hours I never received any updates on my vehicle, even when they knew they were running behind because of a "staffing issue". Desk staff gave no updates the day I dropped my vehicle off and I had to call every couple hours to get updates. Also, when I called a few days before I had work done on my car I was quoted of a price of $XX out the door, this was not the case. They forgot to add tax, so the prices they give aren't even accurate. The loaner car I received was in very poor condition. The staff wasn't even able to compensate for all of the misinformation they gave and the severe inconvenience. When speaking to desk staff, the owner Greg was present. He stood there like a deer in headlights and made no comments. A business like this, that runs this terribly, with extensive complaints and it's made known in front of the owner, and he offers no apology or comments or anything else is unacceptable. I've been going to metric motors for a while now. So far all the work was quick and hassle free, and they have the best price for oil change. So when my car was due I called them and spoke with Matt who told me to avoid waiting you can come in before they close, I specifically told him I'll take couple of hours to be there which was around 5 pm and I know they close at 6, Matt said that's fine I'll see you then. so then I got there around 5 pm after driving for 45 mins I was told they couldn't take my car for an oil change. I had to tell the guy but I called and that's the only reason I drove for 45 mins to get there, if he would have told me they can't take any cars after 4:30 or an hour before closing I couldn't have to WASTE my time, gas and put miles on my car for nothing. In fact the attended kept arguing with me, told me I was suppose to be there at 4? What a joke this turned out to be an hour and hour wasted, didn't even get the oil changed. Sorry to say but this place has definitely gone downhill. I dropped off my car on a Friday night for an oil change like I've done for years, and by 12:45 the next morning, still hadn't gotten a call that it was ready. I called and was told that they would work on it soon and that it would be ready before they close at 2:00. I arrived at 1:55 and saw the my car was still sitting in the same place I left it the night before. After waiting around for 5-10 minutes for someone to come up front to help me, I saw someone run out to my car and drive it up to the garage door. I walked right out and told the guy to forget the whole thing, I'm going somewhere else. I had a ton of errands to run that day and had no time to wait around for them to change the oil. I understand that they may have been very busy and couldn't get to my car right away, but a phone call to tell me this would have been the right thing to do. I made the mistake of taking my car here and boy did i make a mistake. I received a 12.95 coupon in the mail for an oil change so I went in. Greg the skinny little man who I think is the owner, tried to sell me brakes and and a timing belt. The estimate was ridiculous. When I declined he turned from nice to pretty much insulting me and kicking me out. I took it to another local shop and had the work done for a fraction of the price. I have heard horror stories from there about how he treats customers who dont buy the services he offers and how he treats his employees and didn't believe then until now. BEWARE!!! The guy, Chris, at the front desk was so unbelievably rude and gave me such an attitude when I asked to have my car looked at after the check-engine light appeared (which has never been on before) right after I left there for an oil change. He told me it had nothing to do with their service, and true or not, he should have just offered to look at it for me and not have talked down to me. This place is awful. They are a bunch of liars and rip offs. I brought my car in there for an oil change and inspection (I was going out of town so I dropped my car off on a Friday and picking it up on Monday). I call on Monday morning before heading home to tell Greg (the owner) to leave keys in the car and I will pay with cc now. He tells me the car has a wheel bearing problem and the car won't pass inspection without it being replaced (now I drove this car everyday there was no bearing problem). I am pissed that it's Monday and I am just hearing about my car (he had my cell number). He tells me he will charge no labor and the car will be done by the time I get home (inspection bearing and oil) I give him my cc and thought all was good. I pick up my car (after hours) and the receipt is on the front seat and low and behold there were labor charges, when I called Greg he said he doesn't remember saying no labor charges. I emailed the BBB and whenever I can I tell people about this awful place. If my car broke down in front of this place I would have it towed somewhere else!!! read more

Firstly, I have been going to metric motors for years, as well as my parents. I have an older car, that often needs repairs. Everyone knows that a Honda is not difficult or expensive to fix, but apparently in this particular case they either didn't know how to do the job, or didn't care enough to do it correctly. My engine overheated while I was driving one night, smoking, and making a terrible noise. I brought it in, and they replaced the coolant hose, and gave it new spark plugs and a tune up. They did this work without asking my permission, instead, they informed my dad, who lives in another state, that they will be completing this work and it'll cost 700. He talked them down to 470. Foolishly, I paid. The next day, my temperature Gage was climbing while I was on my way to work. I brought it back. They called me several hours later and told me there was nothing wrong with it, perhaps it was an air pocket. When I drove it the next day, it was still overheating. I had a friend look at it, and they told me one of the engine fans wasn't kicking on. I brought it back for a THIRD time. The owner, who is rude, told my parents (not me) that it was a head gasket issue, and it would be 1500 to fix! They defended the first diagnosis on the car that was wrong by stating that the hose had to be fixed first. Right. They refused to give me my money back, but said they would take 300 off if I decided to get my head gasket done there. Well I brought it to another mechanic, he replaced the thermostat and sensor in the engine, added sealant, and charged me $64. The car hasn't overheated once. I work in customer service, and never would I treat a customer, let alone anyone, with such disrespect and then REFUSE to refund them for a job that wasn't even done correctly. They could not even look at me when I was asking for my money back. They know they did a half ass job. I will never give them another dollar of mine, they are completely incompetent. They had the nerve to tell me they never would have never released the car to me if they saw it was overheating. It was overheating while idling in my driveway. I don't believe a word that comes out of Jason's mouth there. I'll never let them touch another car of mine again. read more
