The store owner called me a "BITCH." I left my car for repair on September 28th, but after 10 days with no updates, I called three times to check the progress. The last time, he told me I could pick up my car at 5 p.m. When I arrived at 5:30, I was informed the door was still apart, and I would need to wait another 20 minutes. At that point, the owner was already becoming aggressive and swore loudly when he saw me. I asked if the window was fixed, and he responded impatiently, saying he had already told me on the phone that he took the door apart, put it back, and it was now working. I asked if the issue would happen again, and he said it likely would. I pointed out that it wasn't fair to charge me since the problem wasn't fully resolved, and I had been told I would receive a call before any charges were made. The owner then walked up close to my face and said, "I'll let you go this time, but don't ever come back here again. I think you're a bitch." He then quickly reassembled the door in three minutes, dropped my keys at me while looking down on me, went back into the store, and shut the door behind him. read more

Customer service was ranged from poor to non-existent. I called a few days ahead for an 8am oil change. Showed up at 8am, pulled up to the garage and rolled down the window to ask the guy where I should park, was immediately yelled at: "Don't you DARE pull into my garage!!". OK cool man, I was just going to ask where you wanted me to go. Trying to make it easy for you. In the office I was treated like I was inconveniencing them. I was told it would be no more than an hour and we'll call you when it's done. I said fine just let me know if it's going to be longer. Went down to a coffeeshop to pass the time. Over an hour & a half later, still no word so I walk back to check in. They say oh yeah it's been done. I guess they weren't going to ever let me know. Just dismissive and rude all around. They might have the best mechanics in the state but such bad customer experience, I won't go back. read more

A relative was getting no help with LEAKING EXHAUST FUMES from a nearby shop. Finally, he checked out Lank's. Fixed immediately, inexpensively, and they showed him what was wrong with the previous repair (wrong size hose). I moved to the area, had a bad experience with A TIRE CHANGE at the other place, and was referred to Lank's. What can I say? They are friendly, honest, efficient, effective - they know what they are doing! A family business run by nice people. They don't charge outrageous prices. Family business and they are good mechanics , thorough and reasonably priced with appalling people skills. I have two cars, one 19 and the other twenty years old. They skillfully repaired some challenging and difficult problems. If you can get past the brusque tone, condescending attitude and lack of communication you'll get your car fixed soundly and reasonably but not quickly. By that I mean weeks not hours. Possibly this was a result of the cars ages. Don't ever expect a return call even when promised. I've read a lot of glowing reviews and as far as their mechanical abilities and integrity are concerned I agree. I was not however treated with respect. It seemed my efforts to not to respond in kind by meeting rudeness with politeness only served to embolden the behavior . They certainly don't need my business and that was made abundantly clear . I believe they wanted me to go away. It worked. Using Fishkill Tire and Car repair now. What a difference. read more

This place has taught me that terrible service will stay terrible, and to not expect that when you treat people with respect, they will do the same. You get a gross "boys' club" feeling and the impression that they don't give a f- about your time. I was never given honest time updates, never apologized to for waiting, never told my car was ready, was quoted very high prices and then dismissed when I questioned them, and always spoken to very rudely and defensively on the phone. read more

This shop is absolutely the best!!!!! They, unlike so many other automotive repair shops, are efficient and trustworthy. They never push a service on you that is not necessary. Their knowledge of the repair and maintenance field of automobiles is truly unheard of in a small shop.....their fees are beyond reasonable and they keep you informed of you vehicle s status every step of the way.....I would give a 5 star recommendation of Lank to anyone that needs a repair shop!!!!! read more

Just recently, he replaced some suspension parts and my car drives like new! He's an honest mechanic, some shops will take advantage of the kind of car you drive and mindlessly up-charge. His estimate was in line with my research, he itemized the repair cost upon our first interaction, the repairs were done in a reasonable timeframe, with the Thanksgiving holiday and all...and picking up my car so effortless. I went here to get my car looked at i was told what parts were needed. They told me they will order the parts and get back to me and never called me back with a quote or anything. I gave them a call after a week and was told that they will call me back with a quote and still didn't get a call back. I guess my money wasn't good enough for them, but clearly to leave someone in limbo is totally rude. read more

Josh is our hero today! Thank you for looking at our suburban and getting us back on the road! Stressful day for us and we were thrilled with the help! Our suburban was stuck in traction mode and it turned out it mostly just needed a reset. Tried a few other places who told us they couldn't look at it til next week. All we were asking was for someone to look at it and let us know if we needed to get a rental car or if it was a quick fix. Turns out it was a quick fix situation and we were back on the road. Had to make an unplanned pitstop on our trip from NH to PA due to a hot brake smell and a high pitch squeal that began while we were driving. After self-diagnosing on the internet that a brake caliper was most likely stuck, we decided to get a hotel room and find a mechanic in the area. Preferring to find a local mechanic instead of going to one of the chains, I looked around online and found Lank's, which opened at 6:30 - earlier than a few others that I checked out. I called at 7 and took my car in at 7:30. There was only 1 guy working the morning I was there. He checked out my brakes and showed me why the brake wasn't releasing due to rust, not an issue with the caliper. After sand blasting off the rust and making sure it worked correctly, he reinstalled my brake pad and got me back on the road for $47, telling me that I will need to get my pads replaced once I get back home. Lank's had good service for a reasonable price, showed me what was wrong and didn't try to sell me all sorts of stuff I didn't need... Everything I want in a mechanic. read more

After a loud engine noise developed on Interstate 84, we got off at the next exit. With a quick examination, I discovered a spark plug had blown right out of the engine! I asked around, and Lanks automotive was suggested by several people. As it was black Friday, we were happy to find them open, as most of the other shops in the area were closed. Within 11/2 hrs, we had eaten lunch, and our car was repaired and ready to go. Not only did they take time on one of the busiest days of the year, I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonably they charged. This business has been in the family for 70 years, and with this kind of service they should survive 70 more. read more

I came to know Lank's Auto while working at my previous employer. I sold parts for a dealership at the time and every time they called for a part, they said "send it over." What's different about that is most of my other customers, only called about a price because in truth they weren't sure if that would fix the car or needed to run it by the customer. Given that Lank's never returned parts it told me two things; the first they can properly diagnose car and the second is their customer trust them. I say that because Josh or JJ usually knew the customer well enough that he didn't need to give them an estimate first, they trusted Lank's. Four years later I'm still a customer and part of the family. Now the waiting room is nothing fancy, no big screen TV or anything, however that doesn't matter because I trust in Josh and JJ will fix my car and give me a fair price.
