**Public Service Announcement** We hired Dan Kurth, owner of…read moreCastle Gate Construction LLC, to build a brand new semi-custom home for us this year. It was the worst experience we have ever had with a service provider. Don't let his kind demeanor fool you, if you speak up and question the lack of communication or workmanship during the build process he will turn on you. We caught numerous errors (incorrect siding, items painted instead of stained, attempted double charging for items already included on the purchase agreement, ignoring materials/communications sent months in advance for installs, etc.). We shrugged most of it off assuming it was a normal part of the process, however, right near the end when flooring went in (it was cut far short & looked like whomever laid it had been drunk) we expressed frustration and Dan called a meeting at the house. We walked in to find him, his two children, two floor layers, and the realtor standing in the kitchen. Instead of the professional conversation we were expecting, we were verbally attacked and berated. He said we were the worst clients he's ever had & he could not believe we were questioning his quality. He said we should be grateful and thank him and that we didn't know how hard it had been for him to find contractors due to COVID. He proceeded to tell us that he didn't need us in order to finish the build, he could sell it without us, and that we could take our earnest money and walk. He wrote the check and that is ultimately what we did. Heartbroken and only 3 weeks away from closing we had to tell our little children that our new home was no longer ours. We actually had to buy back our old house thanks to Dan's realtor, Daryl B with KW Realty. Beware if you choose to use the dual agent realtor, he will side more with Dan, the builder, than you. He didn't even speak up when while we were being scathed. Now we have to see our custom house with everything we designed and chose for sale on the open market. Overall we lost our home, a good interest rate, and had to pay someone to stay in our old home. It was an absolutely horrible experience and we're still broken up about it. If we could leave zero stars we would.

English Stone is one of those rare companies that strives to exceed your expectations. In order to…read moresupport this statement let's talk about the four Ps. Project: We had an ugly, weed infested rock garden on a hill adjacent to the back of our home with a rotted and leaning retaining wall ready to collapse. The hill area needed leveling and reshaping, then weed barrier, rocks, and shrubs planted. The retaining wall is now made of interlocking stones and is completely level. We also added a circular yard stone patio with a stone fire pit and grill in the center. Our backyard now has an old English stone flare and is very classy. People: Joel met with us initially and followed through with us and the workers until the end. He has a very positive energy, is passionate about his company's products and services, but not pushy to the customer. He had great ideas for our project and actually did more for us than what was expected. The workers were skilled craftsmen, second to none, with great experience and great attitudes. I would not hesitate recommending them to work their trade even at the Governor's mansion. Pricing: This part surprised us as we thought the project would cost more than it actually did. Process:T he work was consistent, starting sooner than we hoped, and was constant to completion with every detail addressed. After the new grass has grown in, we will be adding pictures. This is a dream come true for us, and we want this review to help you find your own miracle with English Stone.

When I questioned the driver, he insisted they were the correct color. So I installed them. I needed a few more, and when I went to pick them up they brought me the correctly colored ones, so I asked that they come and pick up the installed ones (which I uninstalled before they came, but I did not haul them out to the driveway) and replace them with the correct ones. ISSUE #2: The same driver that insisted my blocks were the correct color was sent to pick up the wrong-colored blocks. He needed to go into the backyard to collect them one by one. I was not home at the time, but when I returned, the gate through which he had to pass 30+ times was sprung (i.e., it had been forced to open further than the hinges were designed to open, thus bending the hinges so that the gate would no longer close completely). Though I did not see this happen, there is no other person who would have been at our house that day, let along going through the gate. I informed the business that this had happened and they said they'd send someone out to take care of it. A week later, I was tired of waiting to be able to close the gate in order to contain my twoLabradors, so I bought new hinges and fixed it myself. A few days later, when I returned the wooden pallets to the business (in order to get my deposit back for them), I mentioned that I'd like some consideration for this. ISSUE #3: The "clerk" at the register adjacent to the one I was at spoke up and said "That's not the way it works! I'm one of the owners. I spoke to the driver, and he said the gate was open and he didn't touch it." I said "So, my claim is totally discounted because your driver said he didn't touch the gate." He said "yes". I said I'd had multiple problems dealing with them, and he said dealing with my order had been a total disaster, and directed me to leave in an aggressive tone. I must say that all of the other employees that I had dealt with were very helpful and friendly -- noticeably so (ignoring the fact that the driver had been dishonest about his mistake). However, this part-owner's very aggressive and unfair approach totally soured me on this business. UPDATE: After I emailed the part-owner (who was the offending party referred to above) indicating that I had posted this review and a similar one with the BBB, he treated the issue with the type of attitude that a customer should expect. He reimbursed me for the cost of the new hinges plus $20 for my time to replace them. His emails to me on this issue were much more civil than was my one encounter with him at his business.
