They will lower the price if you call them out on their shenanigans, though, so be diligent. Their recent arrivals section is usually pretty good, but the normal, already alphabetized stuff are pretty common records but marked up due to location. Honestly, I only ever look through the recent arrival stuff when I stop in nowadays. But again, check the editions before buying because they will absolutely claim it's a rarer edition when it's certainly not.

That said, I brought my wife's vintage but Cheap turntable here when it stopped working. They didn't judge me for my mediocre equipment or even try to sell me on something new. Instead they spent the better part of an hour troubleshooting, allowing me to watch their process, and ultimately landing on two problems. One simply required some calibration to resolve. The other issue was a dead stylus, which they had a replacement for and installed, for a reasonable price. It's worth noting that in addition to their premium audio equipment, they also stock a sizable selection of LP records, encompassing a variety of genres. Thanks Fidelis!

The store never rushes you to buy- take your time to listen to really good gear. Get good advice on how to put a system together. Most of all- ask to listen to the super expensive stuff that you won't be able to buy- and figure out what good audio reproduction can be- then build your system to emulate that.

When I went in to sell my records, she was constantly getting calls, but she still made sure to give us attention and ensure we were well taken care of. We brought in over 100-150 old vinyl records to sell. We had already done our research and knew they weren't worth much, but we still wanted to see what we could get. Most of the records were from less popular artists, and she patiently explained which ones would sell and which wouldn't. We were expecting her to turn them down, but she surprised us by making an offer for the whole lot at a fair price. She even added a bit more to her initial offer. The service was excellent, and I would definitely return if I ever decide to sell more of my vinyl records. Just make sure to call ahead, as she mentioned that she's getting busier.

If you are a KISS fan especially, there is a lot of specialized, rarer stuff here. But the rare inventory seems to come at the cost of all the inventory's pricing. The prices are 2-3 times what I've paid for the same condition pressings elsewhere- sometimes 4-5 times more. I'm not sure how it's getting these prices especially in a small town like Rochester. A bummer- if the prices were in line I would've bought a good dozen records!

Good selection of modern rock, punk, alt, and 60's rock. GREAT selection of audiophile pressings. Some wild Japanese vinyl from The Who that I'M DYING to own. They know what they have, and it's priced accordingly, but stuff that doesn't move seems to get discounted (despite what Discogs says it's worth) Clean, organized, friendly staff, no pressure. The smell, I will never get over but it seems to be their typical smell. The prices are probably as low on CD's as you can go, in a store. Still, if you are looking for CD's you are probably a lot better off shopping online at Amazon or Ebay. On average I save about 50% online compared to Newbury's prices. The DVD prices just plain suck, in most instances you can get a movie or TV show brand new at the used DVD price. Go figure son, go figure. The t-shirt and knicknack prices are, likewise, ridic, there is store CD selection in my opinion keeps them in business. Once people start getting hip to the lower prices online, they will fade away, like BestBuy has done with their CD's.
