Many, many, many years ago I lived in Connecticut and would take trips just to hit up Newbury Comics location through Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine and make a little trip of it. Well, it's 2026 and my parents currently live in Maine so I decided to head to Manchester when I was visiting to check this location out. It's always nice to see a Newbury store inside of a plaza with the cool logo and fun window displays, and this one had plenty of cool stuff in the windows. The store itself is pretty darn big, especially compared to the crappy new one in Quincy Market in Boston. The story has tons of toys, records, movies, and boxed slop that's been popular these last 2 years. I would say, compared to local competitors Bull Moose and Arizona chain Zia Records, Newbury just doesn't hold a candle to these stores anymore. The movie section here is small, the record section isn't very big, I'm not even sure they have video games anymore, and there's so much mystery box and Funko slop that's half the store isn't even worth checking out. I will give credit to the comic section for having a fairly good amount of single issues as well as trades and the t-shirt selection was pretty big as well. Overall, Newbury Comics is not nearly as cool as it used to be, but it's still a solid spot if you live in the area for whatever nerd culture things you want to pickup. I come to New Hampshire roughly once a year, so I'm sure I'll poke my head back in and hopefully they'll have some Criterion's next time. read more

I am not a huge fan of the location. There are by a four way lane interestion of parking areas. I almost always feel like someone is going to hit me in this area especially during the winter. The people are great, this is one of the best and biggest Newby C's there is. The smell, I will never get over but it seems to be their typical smell. The prices are probably as low on CD's as you can go, in a store. Still, if you are looking for CD's you are probably a lot better off shopping online at Amazon or Ebay. On average I save about 50% online compared to Newbury's prices. The DVD prices just plain suck, in most instances you can get a movie or TV show brand new at the used DVD price. Go figure son, go figure. The t-shirt and knicknack prices are, likewise, ridic, there is store CD selection in my opinion keeps them in business. Once people start getting hip to the lower prices online, they will fade away, like BestBuy has done with their CD's. read more

If you're from the Boston area and are a music fan, you surely know about Newbury Comics. I was working in Manchester and happily stumbled upon this location. Of course there are comics, tees, and all sorts of nerd paraphernalia but I mostly came for their great selection of vinyl. Newbury has quite a few limited edition/special editions of great classic records on colored vinyl and I loved browsing the stacks there. They also carry new releases and often have those on sale. I found their staff to be super helpful and would definitely come back for records the next time I'm in Manchester. read more

Check Looking for someplace to give your money that isn't some soulless corporate store (not to mention a better chance of finding something in an artist's back catalog?) Check. Looking for an increasingly wide array of cool, but random junk? Check. My only complaint... when they're playing some godawful punk song likely about kicking puppies and channeling rage/angst, and they're playing the music so loud you actually forget what it is you came in for. I went in with a couple of friends, we were looking around the store having fun looking at all of the different clothes, cards, etc. My friend was planning on buying some magic cards, then when he was looking at funko pop he put them in his pocket for a second to pick it up. After he was done he put it down, he took the packs back out of his pocket when, on our way to check out one of the employees came up to us and said "You guys need to get the f*** out of the store". We were all very confused not knowing what we did. Then he said "Give me the cards and you are your friends need to get the f*** out of the store". I can understand where he was coming from, however he did not address us in any acceptable manner. As we were all enjoying the store and planning to buy some things it kind of ruined the entire experience, needless to say none of us will be returning to the store again. read more

I visit this Newbury Comics the most, since it's closer to Concord. Excellent selection of DVDs, though their blu-rays are lacking. Still, you take what you can get, and I almost always nab a good deal on something here, be it a movie or some music. They don't have as much novelty goods as the one in Boston, but I don't usually go for that anyways. If you're looking for some (often dirt-cheap) DVDs, this place is great. read more

Probably the best music store in town. If you have anything in the way of obscure taste, try here first. Prices for CDs and vinyl are reasonable, and the selection is pretty good. If you're looking for something really kind of obscure and hard to find, the Manchester Newbs won't save you from the hassle of mailorder, but if any of the stores in the chain have it, it can be sent up to Manchester just for you for I think a small fee. Fun store. I'd be lying if I didn't spend half the money I made from part time jobs in high school in here. read more

The selection doesn't change and they kept replacing what I buy with more of the same. They sell plastic sleeves for 7 inch records so why do they sell 7 inch records in single use siran wrap when the paper sleeve does not close. read more

Staff is super awesome. Regular people like you and me, and help bring out the inner nerd in you. I don't shop for much physical music media these days, but their prices on used movies and video games is very fair and competitive to other retailers. They sometimes have awesome "Buy 2 get 1" On DVDs/Blu-Rays, CDs, Graphic Novels, etc. They have a huge inventory for movies and games as well which makes for excellent selections and plenty of time to ponder. It's a 45 minute drive for me, but well worth it every time. read more

This was the closest "cool" record store when I was in high school. They have an okay selection for being in New Hampshire. This specific branch holds a special place in my heart though, I think every other Newbury Comics ever gets like 2 stars... if you combine all of them. read more

They have tons of stuff that you can't find anywhere else and I love that they have so many vintage CDs and tons of movies. that you can really only find online anymore. Some of the things are a bit overpriced, and I bought a used CD that was scratched and only a few songs from it ended up working. I tried to return it, but they wouldn't allow me to, saying "What if you scratched it yourself?" Obviously I wouldn't do that, but I was just a little upset that they wouldn't allow it even though I just bought it less than a week prior. there are usually alot of hipster kids there who hang out, so if you're in the mood to be so cool that it's not cool yet, then hang out here. read more

Though it's still an ok store for CDs, DVDs and various knickknacks, it isn't as great as it used to be. Years ago it was a place where you could buy your favorite CDs and expect to pay ABSOLUTELY no more than $12, but probably only $9. Now the prices have gone up a bit, but are still cheaper than most commecial CD stores, and a lot better selection too. read more

I miss this place. I've found every CD I've needed (even the UK single release B-sides) at prices no chain could never compete with. Full of life, the employees aren't your Hot Topic cashiers, and you can actually converse with them about the music you're getting--refreshing. Very refreshing. They also were my access to The Phoenix and other indie papers that are rather rare in NH. read more

Newbury Comics is probably my favorite store in Manchester. Whether I'm looking for a used DVD, a new-release CD, a graphic novel, or an action figure, or just browsing for something fun and interesting, I never leave disappointed. They also have an e-mail mailing list to keep customers notified of upcoming sales and events, which is very useful for catching a great bargain. read more
