Rescued my laptop from a dead hard drive. Dropped it off and picked it up a day later, better than new and good for another 5 years

First, a little background information behind this review -- I am a graduate-degreed electrical engineer who has been working with and programming personal computers since the mid-1980s. I am not an hard-core expert but I do consider myself a very well educated and experienced user. I was having boot-up and hard disk problems with my8-year old HP desktop computer, so after an extensive internet search of computer repair shops in the metro Atlanta area, I settled on Metro Computer as my choice primarily based on their plethora of 5-star reviews. I dropped my computer off on Thursday afternoon around 2:00 p.m. August the 20th and by Friday afternoon I had already received a call back that the hard disk was going to have to be replaced. We agreed to not only replace the 1 TB hard disk with a 1 TB solid state drive but also to expand my original 8 GB of RAM to a total of 16 GB. In addition, Metro Computer was also going to clone my old hard disk onto the new SSD. By the following Monday, all of the work had been completed and for only $427.50, I got the computer totally repaired and cloned in two working days! The company representative with whom I dealt, Michael, was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and responsive. All those other 5-star ratings were well deserved and here is mine to top off that list. This is an exceptional company. Michael bridged every gap I encountered with Apple and Apple-authorized service providers - no comparison - and then went way beyond my expectations. Ditto on every point mentioned in the other glowing reviews. This guy is an angel - and an expert. I see one review that mentions the service being expensive. I would have paid three times the price to go to Apple or an authorized service provider to upgrade my memory and HD, and still wouldn't have gotten the correct guidance he provided. I sent email to Metro Computer because they were so highly rated on Yelp! During the exchange I told them the details of my computer and relayed the fact that I needed a new battery for my MacBook. They told me that they would have to order the battery and would let me know when it was available. About a week later I received an email that the battery was available and that I could bring my computer in for repair. I took the computer in at 2 and 3 hours and 15 minutes later I picked it up. They had replaced the battery, replaced the broken/missing feet, cleaned the case, and restored the function of the touchpad. All for the same price that the Apple store would have charged for the battery. They are very soft-spoken people so don't expect a lot of conversation. You CAN expect a great service. Should my 2015 MacBook Pro ever need service again there is NO doubt where it will go. Two thumbs WAY UP!!! read more

I spilled tea on my work laptop which made my keyboard glitch. I had no clue where to take it to get repaired. I called Geek Squad first and they told me it would take a month to fix the keyboard alone. Um, yeah, NO! I started doing some fast research online and found Metro Computers on yelp. I called and Michael gave me all of my options and price points from best to worst case scenario concerning my laptop. And the worst case scenario didn't even come close to a 30-day repair time, so I was sold! I came in with my computer the next day and he had the diagnostics and the parts my computer needed in less than 24 hours. I was able to pick up my computer that evening! He did a phenomenal job and even touched up a few parts on my computer and replaced some missing screws that had nothing to do with my keyboard! My computer looks and works like new! This is presently my favorite place in the whole world. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend them. When I woke up on Friday, I turned my computer on and watched and waited while it went through cycle after cycle of attempting to start Windows. Windows would not start. Something was corrupt. I made a feeble attempt to fix it and then decided that it was best to turn this matter over to the professionals. I work for myself and this was my work computer and I don't get paid if I don't work, so I was slightly panicked. But, I pulled it together enough to search for a repair place on Yelp and found one that happened to be four blocks away. I called them and they said to bring it right in - I didn't need an appointment. I dropped off my laptop, told them what had happened and they said they'd call me to let me know what the diagnosis was and we'd go from there. I left to work out and make the best of my unexpected day off from work. When I spoke to them later, it was nearly the end of the day and he said he'd been working on it but he still needed to fix the corrupt files and he might have to reinstall Windows. I was concerned because this was 5:30 on Friday but he said they would be open the next day and he hoped to have it ready by the end of Saturday. It was not ready on Saturday because it was still not working. When I expressed my concern about not having it in time for work on Monday, they said they'd work on it on Sunday. And, they'd also come in early on Monday to meet me so I could get to work. I was OK with this, but maybe a bit worried. I got a call from them on Sunday and they said they thought I should get a new hard drive since space issues were at the root of the problem. The cost was reasonable. I picked up my repaired and happy computer on Monday morning (before they were officially open) and I expected to pay A LOT considering all the weekend work. My total was meager. It was SO CHEAP. When that little circle thingy that shows you everything is properly loading on a PC keeps freezing in its tracks, it's pretty clear something's wrong. Despite having had my Toshiba for four and a half years, I was absolutely determined that whatever it was could be rectified. One of the common questions when taking a computer for repair and/or considering a new one, seems to be, "What do you use it for?" The simple answer is, "Oh, just mainly Word and Internet.. maybe some stuff with pictures." The real answer is, "Well, you know Linus and his blanket?" My computer and I do everything together. It holds every photograph and video, has every work document I need day or night, and knows all the intimate details in my life. Jake and his crew immediately put me at ease- chatting with me, and assuring me they would run all sorts of tests to identify the ailment.. I started seeing these guys more then I see my closest friends-- every few days for the last couple weeks, they tried something new. Eventually, the computer was in such a bad state that it wouldn't even load the desktop. Jake insisted that I not pay for the additional services after the initial work didn't pan out, until we could make sure all was well. When the computer still had problems, I was not only not charged, but was refunded what I had already paid in exchange for leaving my computer there for its parts. I was assisted in transferring files, and offered sincere and valuable advice in getting a new computer. So it's only fitting that this review be one of the first things I type on my new blanket. I was very pleased with the service I received at Metro computers. They were friendly, very nice store and I feel like they were very honest. My wife's laptop keyboard had stopped working and when I dropped it off they said they may need to replace the keyboard. I got a call two days later that the laptop was fixed and that the only thing wrong with it was that a wire had come loose. They could have easily told me the keyboard was bad, replaced it, charged me a whole lot more and I would of never know. When your computer breaks down and you don't know what the hell is going on, it can be distressing to say the least. I took my macbook air to the apple store a few times and was told on two separate occasions that the problem couldn't be duplicated. On the third, they said I had "severe liquid damage" and that I needed to replace my innards at a cost of about $700.00. I declined the repair and a few months later, my computer started acting up again. I was all prepared to shell out my hard earned money to Apple and then I decided to call Metro Computer. I took my beloved computer to Metro believing the repair would cost several hundred dollars. I also worried they would find something else wrong and tell me that I'd need to retire my less than two-year old macbook air. Long story short, the total repair cost about $100.00 and it works like new. Turns out my hard drive was over full and was causing the computer to crash every time I booted up. I went to Metro in 2011 to have them fixed my desktop PC. I was happy with their service, so I decided to use them again three years later. I had dropped my Macbook a few days ago, and I noticed that it wasn't running that great since the fall. I told Vu, one of Metro's technicians, about my problem, and he told me that it would take at least two days because of how backed up they were. Metro underpromised and overdelivered! They had my computer fixed the next day!!! The bill ended up being under $130 which I was happy about. The other technician was extra customer friendly as he gave me tips on keeping my computer up to speed. Although I'm a web designer who knows more than the average joe about computers, I prefer not to fool with computer repair. As long as I am in Atlanta, I plan on using these guys every time I have hardware issues, and I plan on referring anybody in the area who needs their computer fixed. Thank again, Metro! read more

My 10 year old Mac had slowed to a crawl, so I took it to Metro. They were very friendly, helpful, patient and professional, and fixed the Mac within 2 days, replacing the hard drive with an SSD and doubling the RAM. It cost about $350. When I got home, I could not open a particular program I use a lot. I called Metro and they walked me through it, staying on the phone with me for almost 30 minutes. Excellent customer service. Please note that it is almost invisible in The Peach Shopping Center. It is literally BEHIND Party City, and there's no evidence of it from the parking lot. The best way to get to it is to turn right to enter the back-of-stores access driveway just after you pass Publix, going AWAY from Barnes and Nobles. Take that driveway down a bit, and you'll see a sign for Metro on your left. Go in the door, and it's in the hallway. read more

I'm a few months late on writing this review, but the tail end of 2013 was just bananas for me. One of my late 2013 complications was our home PC computer was moving at a snails pace, I couldn't even check gmail without some issue. It would randomly shut down. We thought we had a virus. My husband wanted to just chuck it and spend 3K on a new macbook (still does). But I found midtown Metro Computer and said, "lets just see what they say, our home PC is only 3 years old". Turns out our hard drive was going bad. So they replaced our hard drive (preserved all the content that was on it), and we were back in business! Our computer now runs super fast again, and all we had to do was replace the hard drive for just a few hundred dollars (we had a terabyte hard drive)! I had trouble getting access to my account when they discovered through a diagnostic that i had over 200 (!) viruses on my computer, even though i had "protection" . Had the pleasure of doing business with these guys twice to replace the glass screen to my iPhone 3G. I decided to pay more than was advertised elsewhere to make sure the job was done right and I was more than satisfied. Rus took care of the job in no time flat and the second time, after I was experiencing some difficulties, dropped a third screen in without question. I've got it in a case now so hopefully won't have to return for another visit but should I need to, won't hesitate. I brought my Mac into Metro Computer in order to get my keyboard fixed. After picking my computer up, I noticed that the battery sign on the home screen looked different, but didn't pay it much attention. However, after a month of using my Mac, it completely shut off. I took it back to Metro however they said there was nothing they could do since it was out of warranty. After taking it to Apple, I learned they replaced my battery with out telling me. They used an after market battery, which totally corrupted my computer. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I'm warning people who are considering this place. They don't believe in customer loyalty, and they could care less about you after their short warranty period is over ..even when they are completely in the wrong. I came to them in tears. However, they turned me away with a broken computer and a useless after market battery that they installed. read more

Wow. Awesome dudes. I went in at 5pm on a Friday afternoon to drop of a macbook pro with a shattered screen. I was told by an apple store that it would be upwards of $700 to replace and I might as well buy a new computer. I saw the good reviews of this place and decided to give it a shot. I told them I was in no hurry to get the laptop back, but I also showed them my faulty iphone 5. Somehow my screen was being pushed out by the battery. They fixed my phone while I waited and actually stayed open 45 min longer than their normal hours. And since I was getting 2 pieces repaired, they gave me 20% off and a big discount on a new battery for my phone. So all in all, I got a new macbook screen, a new iphone screen, a new battery, and all the labor for $300. A month ago I brought my computer in for a problem with an Internet browser and a routine cleaning of dust from the fans. They addressed both problems even before the estimated service time, and I felt that the cost was very reasonable. A few weeks later the first issue recurred, and I brought the computer back to them. They advised me that it would not be practical to fix it again because the recurrence indicated that the problem was a software issue. Not only were they honest (instead of charging me again to repair a problem that would likely happen again), but they took the time to show me an alternative right then and there.
