Doug and Talia are super trainers - if you're thinking about sending your dog to training, highly recommend*. Our little miss, Roxanne, was a rescue and new to New York City environment. She was so loving and sweet but was already 2.5 and didn't have any socialization with dogs, showed signs of being neglected, wasn't that trusting with humans in her space (particularly men), and totally overwhelmed by the chaos of FiDi. I cannot say enough great things about Doug and Talia. First and most important they made it possible to keep our German Shepard in our home. My 7 month old GSD was having some really strong reactivity issues. She lunged at dogs and people while on walks. She barked aggressively at children as well. She even nipped at a young family members face. We recently had a baby and were so worried that our dogs issues were going to ultimately be too high of a risk to our child. We had our then current trainer strongly suggest rehoming her. I was desperate and thank God I found Wolfpack. We were able to get our dog into their board and train. She was with them for just over a month. Dorothy (our pup) now can calmly walk beside me when we are out. She does not lunge or bark at dogs as we pass by, even if they are on the same side of the walkway. She hasn't been aggressive towards people or children either. She no longer incessantly barks in our home and is just more mellow and HAPPY overall. She understands all of her commands and responds well. We of course have to keep up on the training but now that I actually have the tools and knowledge, it's not difficult to do. Everything was so amazing! We sent our dog Atticus who is a 3 year old newfoundland poodle mix for training and to help him adjust to New York when we moved. I would never have thought that only 7 weeks later he would be walking off leash, passing other dogs on the street, able to be left alone in his crate, and more. They truly are so amazing at what they do and I cannot recommend them enough!! I'm beyond grateful for Doug and Talia. We have a German Shepherd that just turned a year old (Lina). When we got Lina at 8 weeks old, we set up our first call with Talia. She guided us virtually with how to best create a strong bond with our dog over the course of her first year. Laying the foundation with obedience and the basics of leash pressure. Also setting us up for success so that Lina did not develop reactivity towards other dogs. We built an incredible foundation with her thanks largely to their guidance. At the 1 year mark, we left Lina with Doug and Talia for a 3 week Board and Train. During this time, they got Lina familiar with an E-collar. Our goal was to develop 100% reliability in her obedience commands. A strict heel, no leash pulling, staying on place, eliminating any jumping, and proper socialization around other dogs. They did an incredible job; in just 3 weeks. Lina stays on place until told "break". She walks in a perfect heel. She ignores other dogs and focuses solely on us. She has a reliable recall. So we can take her on hikes and she can enjoy her freedom and we know she'll come back when called. We have learned much from Doug and Talia. Training a dog is not a straight line. There is a process to this. Our first year with Lina was about developing a bond; not expecting her to be 100% strict with commands (like a perfect heel). After she turned one, we could expand on the foundation she had and dive deeper into those commands so they become reliable. Now we are working on reinforcing what she's learned thru consistent repetition. We could not be happier and more grateful for these two. They are very knowledgeable and go about this the right way. Plus they have 2 incredible working line dogs that are impressive to watch. I have learned this as well. There are MANY bad and uneducated dog owners in New York City. These owners don't even realize the mistakes they are making. Not all dogs are meant to say "hi". I want Lina to focus on us and to go out for a walk peacefully, ignoring other dogs. There are not enough stars here to rate how thankful I am for Doug and Talia!! The TLDR is: We got Cudi (a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever) not knowing we were pregnant so we unknowing ended up with 2 kids! We tried our best to train him ourselves, but once I fell heavily pregnant the efforts took a bit of a dive. This meant that we had him essentially 50% trained. He was great with some things, but not so great at others. Cudi was never a bad dog with crazy issues, but once our human baby arrived, Cudi started to become barky reactive to baby. We tried for a month to see if we could fix the situation ourselves, but the barky and unpredictable behaviour towards the baby was putting all of us in the house on edge (the sleep deprivation didn't help either). In the end we knew we had to get help! --- ENTER NEW YORK WOLFPACK!! --- and thank god we found them! I spoke to a couple of different trainers in the New York area. Talia was the only person I spoke to where I immediately felt like they knew what they were talking about and that they actually cared about the long term success of the dog! We moved forward with a 4 week B+T program and Cudi has come back as an AMAZINGLY well trained dog with the same goober personality! They have come in and literally restored the peace in our house and we feel like we finally now have the ability to breathe and enjoy our fur baby Cudi and our new human baby together. What I love the most about Doug and Talia is that they really do care. It never felt like a 'we've trained him and here you go, goodbye and good luck!'. They really try to set you up for success. Working with Talia and Doug has changed my relationship with my dog for the better and has improved his life quality greatly. Before our board and train, which was almost a year ago now, Atlas was unruly, reactive, and would wriggle out of his harnesses/collars or somehow get out of the yard, leaving me in fear that he'd be hit by a car or otherwise get hurt. It got to the point where I was afraid to even walk him, because if we saw a dog on the walk, he would lunge or drag me to want to see that dog--or even try to get out of his collar and harness to the point where I would have to hold his entire body tightly until the dog walked far enough away that we could resume our walk. (He has never been aggressive reactive, but has always wanted to meet every person and dog we would encounter.) In addition to that, Atlas would completely destroy my house whenever I would have to leave. While he (luckily) never ate my furniture, I did come home to clothes shredded, garbage bags removed from the can and torn open, urine everywhere (even after training him to go out--this was only when I wasn't home), and just general behavior that I deemed unacceptable for my household. When I tell you that I've never had more anxiety surrounding an animal, having had dogs my whole life, I would literally cry thinking about all the things Atlas was missing out on. I couldn't even take him for a quick walk around the neighborhood, let alone have any experiences where he'd have off-leash freedom. I was nervous, at first, leaving Atlas with people for 8 weeks, but I knew it was the best for him and I knew these were the best people to help both of us. (I think I even made a 27-page Google doc of information about Atlas for them... Sorry .) Talia understood my anxiety completely and did everything she could to make me feel at ease. The board and train allowed me the time to learn what works with Atlas without the pressure of having to do it right away. Doug and Talia sent photos and videos every single day of what they were doing, why it was important, and how to continue or improve upon it. They gave me homework (which was so helpful!) and really took the time to answer my questions thoughtfully and in ways I understood. Now, eight months after Atlas has been home, we've had such a better life. Atlas has been with me on trips where we'd hike off-leash using our e-collar. He's run on the beach and through the waves more times than I can count. He doesn't lunge at other dogs and stays pretty neutral around dogs we don't know when we're off-leash (and he is much better at playing with the dogs we *do* know). He is a dream to walk now, and although I *can* leave him unsupervised in the house when I'm gone, he enjoys his crate during those times and I know he's safely snoozing instead of ingesting something that could potentially hurt him. Not to mention--my anxiety is almost nonexistent when it comes to Atlas now. Both Atlas and I now have the tools to go through life and share experiences safely. He gets much more freedom and I have peace of mind. Talia and Doug absolutely changed our lives. (And one of the best perks about joining the Wolfpack--They're around even months/years after the board and train is done for questions or help. Going on a trip? They can board your dog while you're gone... and you know your dog will come back happy, healthy, and won't regress on any training like they might leaving them with a family member or friend. It gives me peace of mind knowing that they're around as people who not only I can trust with my dog, but that my dog trusts as well.) I am genuinely surprised to see someone say that they had a negative experience with NYWP. Talia and Doug are incredible at what they do. My dog Tuna spent 5 weeks with them last year and he was treated with so much compassion, patience, and understanding. My dog went from reactive and insecure to calm and well mannered. I can not express how fun and freeing it is to have such a strong and trusting bond with my dog. They worked in strong collaboration with me to ensure I understood what they were doing with my dog and what i would need to do to be able to maintain the training. It was a lot of work and required a lot from me, and I would do it all again in a heartbeat. The bond i have with Tuna now is something I'll always cherish. He is confident, has incredible recall, trusts me to be a strong leader and truly lives such a calm and full life. The training with did with Talia and Doug created such a strong foundation for us to build on, and has led to us having so many incredible adventures. He's remarkable off leash, he is so well behaved, and I can legitimately take him anywhere without worrying about how he will act. I do not want to imagine what my life with my dog would be if I didn't find New York Wolfpack. They are the BEST (Other words when I think of them : life changing, mind blowing, extraordinary, inspiring) . They will do everything in their power to train you to train your dog so you can have the best life together with your dog. Some background: Zulu, my goldendoodle dog, was a typical puppy when we got him. But since this was our first dog, we just didn't know what to do and how to train him. So the first few months of having Zulu were horror - it was legit hell on earth. I was desperatly looking for trainers and none of the trainers I found 1) Really cared for my puppy or me, they were more about the $$ and the # of sessions they can "fix" Zulu 2) Were just planning to use a one size fits all process 3) Took us serious since Zulu was only 18 weeks old. This all changed once I met Talia........ Thank God I met Talia (even to this day, I thank the universe for leading me to this fantastic couple). If it wasn't for Talia and Doug, my husband and I wouldn't be the handlers we are today. Personally, I am more confident, and I know exactly how to work my dog and lead him out of tricky situations while also ensuring he has the best life. We, as a family, have been enabled to train him to provide structure and boundaries, and because of which we are able to take Zulu literally EVERYWHERE. We take him to restaurants, hiking, shopping malls. He has been on every mode of transportation, on escalators, in food courts, beaches, kayaks, paddle boards, loose leash walks, off-leash adventures, parks. Our families allow him to be in their house and around their kids because of how well behaved he is. On top of this, with all the city craziness, we can call him back and put him on heel, and he will listen and always come back. People come home and just cannot believe what a fantastic dog he is. He might be 75% poodle, but he is 100% the goodest boy we have ever seen, and this is all because of New York Wolfpack.I put my blood, sweat, and tears into Zulu, and they did the same with me. The days that were hard, they uplifted me, and the days that were great, they cheered me on We have left Zulu with them for board and trains multiple times, and Zulu always comes back as happy as a clam. Their entire process from confirmation of booking, pick-up, during (including updates on training, things to work on), photos (which btw are epic), and drop-offs were always punctual, professional, and meticulously planned. To this day when Zulu sees them, he gets excited. I still am yet to see a dog that does NOT like them. Even after moving out of NYC, I am still in touch with Talia, getting her guidance on new situations or any genetic questions I have for Zulu. She takes the time to respond and send voice memos, and is always guiding and teaching me to be a better handler for Zulu. They are the most hands-on trainers who will call you out if you're doing something wrong while also guiding you to be best handler. We cannot recommend NY Wolfpack enough! From the start, you can tell Doug and Talia are truly passionate about helping owners understand their dogs and setting them up with all the tools to build a stronger relationship with their pups! We sent our almost 3 yr old English Cocker Spanial named Homer to NY Wolfpack for a 7 week Board and Train to work on his dog reactivity, separation anxiety and basic obedience. Homer's a great derpy happy dog, but his dog reactivity started to increase to the point where we would be very stressed taking him out. We could never tell if he was going to react, so the unpredictability made us stop wanting to take him with us to a lot of places. We would even resort to carrying him out through the elevator/lobby of our building so he didn't have a chance to react. Fast foward to his B&T with NY Wolfpack and we couldn't be happier! Even from the first videos that were sent to us by Doug and Talia, we were amazed at the changes in Homer. Along with the video updates, Doug/Talia take the time to explain the reasoning behind everything they're doing and welcome any questions we have. They really want to ensure you understand how your dog thinks, which in turn helps you grasp how the training addresses those behaviors. One of the best part of Homers B&T was when we got to to have sessions with Homer during the final weeks because what's the point of having Homer trained if we as owners aren't trained as well? With these sessions, we became way more confident on taking Homer out and about and handling different situations, which in turn made Homer more confident as well. The 7 weeks flew by and Homer is back home and is doing amazing! Doug and Talia are not the type of trainers who drop off your dog and bid you good luck. They make it known they are available for any questions/concerns we have as we transition Homer back home. Doug and Talia at NY Wolfpack are the most amazing trainers I could have ever dreamed of working with. I adopted my pup, Dolly, at 5 months, and she started out as a super sweet, docile and gentle girl who seemed to love other dogs and people. By about 10 months, she was reactive toward dogs she didn't know, resource guarding food, charging after my cats in an extremely scary way, and trying to bite my friends and family. It was awful bringing her out on walks because of how terrified she'd become of trucks and buses. I brought my german shepherd Bella for board and train a couple of months ago. Before paying for and setting up this meeting I sent this company an email very clearly stating we were looking to train a puppy and the response was to recommend a $125 "consultation". After about 10 minutes it was clear they weren't going to work with our young dog, but everything we told them about our dog from the initial intake was exactly the same. It would have been great to see Talia take the initiative and stop the meeting after a few minutes and say it wasn't a match, rather than waste our time and money. Would not recommend this place as a training facility both because of the unjustifiable cost and their "methods" of training which really don't sound like something you'd ever want to put your dog through. read more

Before NY Wolfpack, walking our dog was stressful. She was nervous and constantly looking around, she pulled the leash to the point that we needed to hold the leash with both hands the entire walk, and if she saw a squirrel we would face plant into the ground (yes, this happened a few times). Isla is a great dog -- we got lucky. She's a rescue and is very well mannered, not reactive and has never caused any of us any harm. But for us, she was very tough to train. We were hesitant to send her off to a board and train. Ultimately, we decided to take the leap and enjoy the luxury of having the best trainers in the country train our dog while we traveled. Fast forward a few weeks and once we saw Isla again she was another dog. Just as sweet, didn't lose her personality at all, instead she became more of herself, more confident and SO obedient. Completely exceeded our expectations. We suddenly had this open channel of communication with her that I'm so grateful for. As soon as we spent time with them in person, we realized just how much Talia and Doug care about each pup. They really treat them as if they were their own and have become Isla's biggest advocate, teaching us so much about her personality, likes/dislikes and ideal routine. She's back in our house, we make up reasons to take her on walks because of how good she behaves. We are eternally grateful to Talia and Doug for giving us and Isla the best life ever and teaching us how to be better owners for her. We now take her off leash every morning in the park and let her chase squirrels off leash, knowing that the second we put the leash on her, we could balance a coffee on our heads. read more

Talia and Doug have done such an amazing job with our boy Chief. Before starting training with them he was very unsure of everything around him, reacted to anything or anyone passing by and just not listening to commands. It's like we have a brand new dog now! (With the same silly personality) we appreciate all the hard work they put in to teaching Chief to be the best dog he could be! read more

On brand reaction and customer service response to dissatisfied customers. Professionalism is not a priority

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that New York Wolfpack saved our relationship with our dog. We adopted an anxious, reactive dog and knew immediately that we would need to work with a trainer. After wasting a bunch of money on a (very nice) trainer who practiced treats-based "positive reinforcement only" techniques, our boy was no more confident or obedient and in fact was rapidly settling into bad behaviors. Finally, we brought him to Doug and Talia for a 5 week board + train. They gave him the structure he needed to gain confidence and taught us how to build on their work. Now, we don't worry about him lunging on walks, we can let him off leash without issue, and we have the tools to manage his separation anxiety and resource guarding tendencies. Most importantly, he's obviously happier, and now that we're settled into our new routines, we get to enjoy our time together a lot more. It's worth noting that the only negative reviews on here are from people who aren't actually customers of New York Wolfpack. It's true that they can come off a little bit brusque about some things and dogmatic about their training philosophy. But they're really perfectly nice where it matters, highly communicative, great with the dogs, and the techniques work. The only thing I think we might have ultimately disagreed on is about medication. Our dog was taking fluoxetine to manage his anxiety; when we dropped him off they said they'd like to taper him off the meds to see how he responded to the training unmedicated. Apparently, most dogs come out of their program no longer needing them - and I believe that, given how quickly ours improved in so many respects. They said they didn't see a difference on or off the fluoxetine, and suggested that he didn't really need to continue it. They also observed that he struggled with genetic anxiety that could be managed but probably not "cured" by training. We eventually decided to put him back on the meds, and it seemed to be the final piece in the puzzle. Medication definitely wasn't the solution to his problems, but in conjunction with the training, it's helped him experience less intense separation anxiety and exhibit fewer anxiety behaviors throughout the day in general. Ultimately, Doug and Talia are very serious about their work and it shows. I don't think most people make it their first choice to do a multiweek board and train program to learn training techniques that aren't exactly broadly popular among average dog owners (like limiting your dog's interactions with other dogs and people). They do it when they're out of other options. If that sounds like you... stop hesitating. I wish we'd brought ours to New York Wolfpack sooner. read more

New York Workpack did a fantastic job with board+train for my 1 year old dog. He needed training for heel, crate, staying on place/bed, not jumping up to greet people, less barking at the mailman/deliveries, less separation anxiety when we leave and return home, recall so he can be off leash at times, no counter surfing, less reactive on walks (to deer, fox, and sometimes cars), and less reactive to some sounds on TV (dogs barking, horses neighing). Doug and Talia were terrific to work with. Very professional and so knowledgeable! They did a great job training Bernie and teaching us how to continue the training. This will help our life with Bernie be so much more pleasant! read more
