If I could give these guys more stars I would. Our 2 year old rescue has behavioral issues and we were desperate to find a behavioral dog trainer to curve some of his dog-on-dog aggressive behavior. We found Twahlee through word of mouth and checked out the reviews on yelp but to be honest, I was skeptical because the reviews seemed too good to be true. These guys are the real deal though. Twahlee and Eddie completely transformed our dog and we could not be more grateful. The training was worth every penny and we would absolutely hire them to continue ongoing training. The longer story is that we had already spent hundreds of dollars on other trainers both in New York and Chicago, all for little improvement in our dog's behavior. We felt like we had exhausted all options. Our dog's dog-on-dog aggression was getting worst and we felt helpless. One morning I decided to give Twahlee a call to see if he could help us. He came to our apartment with his dog Dinero for an in-home consultation. I was terrified that our dog would show aggression towards Dinero, but having fully disclosed all of our dog's issues with Twahlee beforehand, Twahlee came prepared. Twahlee has a great confidence in his practice and a great demeanor with dogs, which calmed my nerves. He is the Cesar Millan of NYC, my dog listened to him instantly and our dog did not show aggression towards Dinero during the consultation. From that point, we knew Twahlee had something special going and that he might be able to curve our dog's aggression. Twahlee did a great job managing our expectations. He did not over promise results, as other trainers had done before, and he was very open and honest about what he could do to help our dog. We had two or three calls with Twahlee to ask him additional questions about his program and then we decided to sign up for three weeks of in boarding training with Twahlee and Eddie. I was personally pretty distraught to give our dog to what seemed to be strangers for three weeks, but Twahlee was completely understanding and alleviated all concerns. He picked up our dog one morning and three weeks later he came to drop off our dog - the same sweet dog we remembered but an exceptionally well trained version of our dog! Throughout the three weeks, Twahlee sent status updates, videos and pictures via text message, which we really appreciated. Twahlee has all of the tools needed for good training camp, including a cool dog treadmill for additional exercise each day. Through exercise, obedience training and discipline, our dog learned self control. Self control is key for a dog who has aggressive behavioral issues. Our dog has a very dominant personality and Twahlee taught him to listen immediately to every command, which helps with his handling. He is now a superb walker, never pulling on the leash. He has a few commands that he listens to very well and he is slowly learning that we can protect ourselves and he does not have to protect us from other dogs. After the three weeks of in boarding training with Twahlee, we had three private training sessions and three group training sessions to reinforce the handling skills for us. Twahlee, always putting our dogs needs first, even offered to meet us at 8am on two occasions to give our dog some off leash time with other dogs at the park. This level of commitment and dedication for a dog's well being and training is unparalleled. I have hired numerous dog trainers before Twahlee and never has a trainer put our dog's needs first like that. Twahlee taught us to read our dog's body language and get him out of situations before they escalate, this is something we continue practice. If you have read this review to the end, you may be experiencing something similar with your dog. I know I read every article, review and resource available to help train ourselves and to help our dog. Twahlee, Eddie and Metro Dog Training helped us tremendously and we are extremely grateful. My dog April is a rescue and sadly has some fear aggression that I was having a ton of trouble figuring out how to handle. I had tried a trainer before and honestly felt like it did not help much (and was a bit too rough of an approach for such a small dog in my opinion). I met with Twahlee and after just one full session with him, I was blown away! His approach is about having the owner work with the dog on obedience so that for a dog like mine, she is more focused on ME and not all the external factors that may scare her and cause her to go off. Not only does he bring what I think is a great balance of both discipline and affection for the dog but he also takes his time explaining everything to the owner. My dog also LOVES him..which is a big deal being that my dog tends to be more fearful of new people! I did a 5 day private lesson package and the rates were very affordable and I really feel that I got a great deal out of it and it's all tools that I am able to use daily with my dog which allows both myself and my dog to be more comfortable. The other great thing is after you finish up your private sessions, Twahlee offers a very low coast group class where you can continue to work on training your dog. I was introduced to Twahlee by a neighbor who had a very well-behaved goldendoodle. I have a very active Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who used to pull on the leash like a maniac. In just 3 lessons, he had Genghis heeling so well, it was like walking a completely different dog. Then one day an off-leash dog attacked me and Genghis in the park. Thankfully Genghis was physically okay but afterwards he was so anxious around other dogs, he would either cry or start barking nonstop until the other dog was out of view. The kicker was this happened right before I had to move to a new country and I was so stressed trying to figure out how to help Genghis before our move. Twahlee again came through and showed me different training exercises and ways to be able to walk with Genghis in a less anxious manner around other dogs. He was also incredibly accommodating with his schedule since I had so little time before I had to move. By the second lesson, Genghis was able to walk by almost all dogs without any reaction whatsoever. After moving, I'll admit I was a bit lax with his training and Genghis started exhibiting some anxious behaviors, but I've since started using the same techniques as before and his behavior has improved greatly. Not cheap, but worth every penny! After trying a couple other cheaper dog training classes that weren't that great, we decided to finally splurge on Metro Dog Training. We had seen one of their group classes in McCarren Park, and were impressed with all of the dogs, which is about as good a recommendation as you can get. We were a bit concerned with our first training session, as we had Dominique, instead of Twahlee, who all of the great reviews seem to be about. Dominique is great though, and we've been very happy. We noticed serious progress after our first session; their techniques make sense, they do a good job of explaining them and helping apply them to your individual needs. As with any training though, it's really all up to you and how consistent you are with the training. We're not the best, but we're getting there. We're halfway through the package at this point, and there's been tons of improvement. They bring training props and aids both to your house for private sessions, and in the group sessions. They give you recommendations on they types of collars and how to use them, and if you aren't comfortable with the slip or electric collars, they'll work with you on other ones as well. My husband and I had gone back and forth on the idea of getting training for our 1-and-a-half-year-old sheltie, Jojo. But then when I got pregnant, we decided better to be safe than sorry. So we emailed Twahlee, who got back to us right away. Twahlee is wonderful! Working with him has shown us that there's a difference between the ability to do tricks and true obedience. He taught us some simple techniques to help keep Jojo (and us) calm and confident on the hectic streets of Brooklyn. Jojo is now easier to walk and less afraid of people and objects that used to set her off (skateboarders included!). She's even more lovable now--which we didn't think was possible! All this makes us feel better about having her around our newborn. One of my favorite things about working with Twahlee is that he provides great feedback and tips without being judgmental. My pitbull mix, Tula, bites people. Yep, that's right...she bites people. She has fearful aggression where rather than retreat, she bites. We had tried other trainers, but to no avail. Finally, we met Twahlee. He is an amazing trainer with very good instincts. He knew that we would never be able to change the nature of my dog. Tula would never be a happy go lucky dog that just loves everyone. She would always be wary of people, and her trust would always have to be earned. In just 5 sessions, Twahlee has given us the tools we needed to move forward. His lessons were tailored to our situation and had immediate impact. I now have the confidence to bring Tula into social situations such as going to the dog run or having people over. She seems much more relaxed and almost seems relieved. We can even walk through a crowded farmer's market without incident! Tula still has a long way to go, but I finally feel like we've turned the corner and can start moving forward. Twahlee brings his own immediately apparent confidence and experience from the get go. For my boyfriend and I, it was more about Twahlee helping us develop our own confidence and practice of being even-keeled to effectively discipline and reward our dogs. We adopted Lobo, a 2yo chihuahua/dachshund/pug mix, 5 months ago and we're fairly certain he'd never been on leash before--pulled constantly, would bark at other dogs, cats, birds, people and was generally unmanageable (for a 13lb pup) on walks. With Twahlee's guidance and tools, we've effectively been able to unlock how smart and willing to please Lobo really is. Twahlee also helped us work with our 8yo pug, Henry, who is almost too smart to the point of selective obedience. While we are still constantly working with them on our own, both boys are now pleasant out on walks together and we are thrilled with our decision (and friend's recommendation) to work with Twahlee! The man behind Metro Dog Training, Twahlee Rollins, is truly gifted. He has a grace and simple directness in his approach to the training of both dogs and their owners. His love and respect for dogs is clear. I grew up with dogs out west but had not fully understood the importance of simple, consistent commands to reduce confusion on both the dog and owner. We made remarkable strides on every session and it was up to us to reinforce these simple concepts, to not deviate. It's been more of an education for me to maintain clarity and use the techniques and language to better communicate with our pet. I cannot recommend him highly enough. Twahlee and his team are great. I 110% recommend them. We worked primarily with Twahlee, but also with his assistant Kris who was amazing as well. Twahlee has helped us take our sato/mini schnauzer mix to the next level. What can I say about Twahlee that hasn't already been said? I'm a first-time dog owner, and my puppy was showing signs of dog aggression after he was attacked at 4-months-old. We interviewed several trainers in the area, and Twahlee was the perfect fit. He knew EXACTLY how to handle our dog (and teach us how to handle him). For months I was afraid to walk my dog on my own because he was having an aggression incident during every walk... other dogs (big and small), delivery people, people on skateboards, motorcycles. Twahlee is the BEST trainer. I cannot speak more highly of Twahlee and his training methods. We adopted our adult dog (4 year old miniature schnauzer) and he was very leash reactive to people and dogs. Twahlee is incredible! I'm so surprised and so relieved how he helped me with my dog Luma. Luma is a 1,5 year old Pomsky. So lots of energy and very husky Independent. Minutes into our first session, our jaws dropped as our Ridgeback pup was following directions (that never happened before). This was our first time dealing with a trainer and it was instant gratification. Twahlee's very approachable personality makes the sessions fun and productive. His methods are direct, simple, and coherent. The sessions took place on the streets among pedestrians and in dog parks among other dogs, proving the training is effective in everyday situations. What I appreciated about the experience the most, is that Twahlee didn't train our pup, he taught us how to do it. Started training with Twahlee when my GSD was 8 months old. He was full of energy and it was stressful just taking him for a walk. I am very pleased with Twahlee's work and would not hesitate to recommend Metro Dog Training to others. I have a teacup Yorkie puppy with lots of energy and a relatively short attention span. But thanks to Twahlee's patience and skill, she is now more obedient and her impulse control has improved. I really like the emphasis on obedience rather than just "tricks". The training is also very reasonably priced. Twahlee definitely loves dogs, and his training style is firm but kind. The use of a choke collar sometimes feels a little harsh for my small dog, but it's an effective way to get her to focus, and I trust that Twahlee knows what my dog's limits are. Dog trainer wouldn't do Twahlee justice as a title. Twahlee is a dog master. Not only is he one of the most approachable and friendly people to work with, he inherently understands the way dogs work. It doesn't matter what nature your dog has, Twahlee can help you channel it in a positive way. During the first session you will see unbelievable results highlighted by your dog being off-leash a good distance from you and totally obedient. Twahlee has spent quite a bit of time with me and my husky Harvey, but to be fair, most of that training was to train me. Harvey was obedient after the first session. Twahlee is the BEST dog trainer in NYC! I have a 3 year old golden retriever mix. We recently moved from a house to a high rise building in downtown Brooklyn. My pup would bark incessantly whenever I left him for hours which disturbed my neighbors. I called Twahlee and he came within 15 minutes and helped solve my dog's barking in less than 5 minutes. I can't recommend Metro Dog Training highly enough. We just finished a five session package. Our (now 6 month old) Border Collie mix, Oskar has turned into an incredibly well behaved, responsive & focused pup. Thanks to Twahlee & his training methods, Oskar has mastered the basics of an absolute sit, down, up, loose leash walk ( I mostly now just put Oskar's leash in my pocket & he walks beside me), heel & a reliable, consistent recall.
