I needed a new lock for my office door because I could only get one key to open it, any duplicate wouldn't work because it was so nudgy. I showed up at the shop telling them that my building supervisor said that I could have the lock replaced. Instead they said if they cut me a new key it would work, it didn't. I went back to schedule a time for them to come and change the lock. The first appointment I made I had to reschedule. I believe it was Rick I spoke with. He gave me a lot of attitude about making a new appointment. When he offered a time I said, ok I'll check my schedule. He insisted that I call back instead of waiting three seconds for me to just look at my schedule saying that they were extremely busy on the phone. So I finally made an appointment. They gave me an hour window and called twenty minutes after the window. I ran into Rick on the street outside my building a bit after my window and asked if he was looking for me. He said he was on lunch and I should call the office as he didn't make eye contact and didn't break his stride. He kept walking as I was explaining that I was waiting for someone to fix my door and wondered if it were him. He absolutely snubbed me. What's wrong with being human, even on your lunch break? I wasn't able to see them when they came late so I made appointment for another day. Andrew was prompt for the next appointment, but when he got to work instead of changing the lock he took it out rearranged it and left me with the same problem the keys could barely work in the lock, after 40 minutes. Then he kindly came back (thus two instead of one star) and said that he could tell I was unhappy and he would change the lock (another 30 minutes) He did, but then the key wasn't able to lock the door. When I went back to the shop, I talked to Rick. He was extremely rude and condescending to me. He said he would go fix it and I would need to come back to the shop to pick up my key. I told him that this had now taken hours of my time. He said, "it wasn't my fault, but mistakes were made, we'll go fix it." I'll tell you an apology from anyone in the business would've gone a long way. They wasted hours of my time by trying two steps before doing what I asked for and when they finally did what I asked they did it wrong. But mostly, they were rude acting as if it were my fault they weren't fixing the problem. With the exception of Andrew who came to fix my lock and was actually quite sweet. read more

Had a great experience at Metro Lock this AM. I had a key break off in an old lockset w deadbolt and had a Task Rabbit service tech helping when we realized we needed to go to Metro Lock to get a plate for the new replacement locks. The Metro Lock guy advised me to fix the existing lock for less primarily because it was a much more durable and reliable lock. He said he could fix it and realizing I had my Task Rabbit guy waiting as well, put down his current job and fixed this 50 yr old set in less than 10 min. Charged me less than a normal rate bc it didn't take as long as normal and I was back at my house wrapping up in less than an hour. And I was able to send back the new parts. I just got off the phone with Jimmy Goh over a non-working just installed 4 unit system. The installer did not know how to operate the in-unit intercoms, Gave me the wrong operating instructions, and when the system failed that night (a Friday, of course) I called the service department for AiPhone to get the correct service/operating data. Jimmy then tells me the I crashed the system on Monday night (my neighbors could not get it to function on Saturday) and accused me of opening a system THAT I DID NOT OPEN to cost an extra service call. Then he hung up on me saying that he had to pick up his kids (3:15 in the afternoon on a Monday) I have just read the entire installation and service manual for my setup and there is no mention of crashing the system. I have a BSEE from Cal Tech and have been working on/repairing electronic equipment for years. I did warranty work for 17-20 manufacturers. In a word, THEY LIE read more

After setting up an appointment 2 weeks in advance, for a home visit, I received a call that the serviceman could not make it, he would be on vacation. I called and resheduled for another appointment, one week later, and at the day and time of the appointment, received another phone call that he could not come due to an emergency. Our lock to our apartment is as old as the building itself and it would take more than your standard jiggle to unlock this beast. After months of wrestling with this lock, and our dog walker not being able to turn the lock today, I finally yelped Metro Locksmiths. I called at 11 AM and they told me they could come over right away! However, I had to make a trip to the peninsula so I set the time for 3 PM. I had a great experience with Metro Locksmiths. This wasn't an emergency call, I made an appointment in advance to get a sticky deadbolt replaced on my front door. The technician showed up on time, was professional, and advised that the lock could be serviced instead of replaced - which saved me some $$. They honored the 15% Yelp discount, too. Two weeks later, happy to say the lock is working great so the decision to repair it instead of replace it seems to have been a good one.
