I'm surprised at these guys. I needed a new lockset for a new front door. Was considering a high-end Baldwin unit, not a cheap piece of hardware. Metro came well-recommended by my architect and their owner, Jimmy Goh, came out to measure the door for which I need the new set. When the architect and I went in to the shop to look at locks they were reasonably attentive. But then they took weeks to get me a bid. I called in to ask about it and they assured me someone would get back to me. A week or two later I went by in person to enquire, and was told that the owner hadn't prepared my bid yet. I explained that I needed to move on the project and expressed concern that they did not seem interested in the job. They shrugged. Our building had break-ins two consecutive days with items taken from the common area. I took photos of the door in question, and Metro gave me quotes for same night work and next day work. Within three hours, added door enhancements were complete. The family who operate this business are very competent and know the ins and outs to all break-in possibilities in San Francisco. Metro Lock is great! Used them for the first time today. Needed to have existing lock and deadbolt rekeyed. Called for an appointment first thing in the morning and they were here an hour early (calling in ahead to make sure it was ok, of course). Both the person receiving my call and the person that came out were spectacular, in terms of customer service. The locks were rekeyed within 20 min AND they honored the 15% for new customers as was advertised here on yelp. I highly recommend this place. read more

I feel as if I am in a talking to a used car dealer when I got an estimate. The estimate was much more than the other estimates I received and the parts were much more expensive. I instead went with Mike at Locksmith Central. They had a better lock and MUCH better service. He was prompt, even worked at night 6pm-9:30pm without any extra charges and he was nice. Received a call just as we were heading to the last 10 minutes of the hour window they gave me. Metro indicated they're running late but will be at my house within the next 15 minutes. 10 minutes later, Bryan came to the door. Firm handshake and explained that it will take about 10 minutes to rekey. All the information I gave them earlier was already on the work order. I was puzzled by the negative reviews as I had used Metro Locksmith to change my locks six years ago, but none-the-less I went ahead and called them again when I needed to have my locks rekeyed. Metro had my records (I have a non-standard lock), asked me how may keys I wanted, and then showed up (on time) with the keys (plus an extra, in case one wasn't quite right) for a procedure that took less than 10 minutes. We locked outselves outside our apartment 2 hours before our flight. Called metro and person in the phone said they can be here in an hour. We waited and waited without calling another locksmith (since we are committed to metro). We called them again but no one picked up the phone this time (it was after hours). Our locksmith finally showed up after 2.5 hours later and he took another 30 mins to open the lock. We missed our flight...The locksmith gave us a discount for showing up late. We had to spend 4 thousand dollars to reschedule the missed flight. Lesson 1: take keys with you when you take out the trash Lesson 2: don't call metro for locksmith if you want one to show up within the agreed timeframe. read more

Very sketchy. The technician Jimmy Goh came out to inspect the project and said he could do it. Then he sent an estimate. Then another technician came out to actually do the project and said he couldn't do it. They then sent out another estimate ONE WEEK AFTER they said they would. It was four times the original estimate. When I called to ask why the price quadrupled, Jimmy said that the info I gave him was inaccurate. I didn't give him any information. He's the technician, it's his job to figure out what he needs, that's not my domain. Very unprofessional. read more

Today I had an unfortunate incident with Afric Whittingham when I went to pick up keys for my landlord. When I told him I thought the order was wrong, he refused to bring up the order request, telling me that once they get the emails requesting a service, they put the info in a spreadsheet and trash the original request. This seemed preposterous to me. I had been cc'd on the order request so when I attempted to show Afric the email he refused to consider that as proof that what he was giving me was incorrect. He proceed to demand that I sign for the product I was receiving without handling the issue that the order wasn't what the customer wanted. I've had good experiences with many others at Metrolock in the past, but today I saw the evil side of the office manager. read more

I hired Metro Locks to put in a intercom system last year. I was quoted a price to install it and when the job started, the price increased. We had to negotiate with Metro Lock to honor the original quote. It took weeks to install the system and it did not work properly from the minute it was installed. There has been one problem after another . As it turns out, the system is now NOT WORKING at all and Metro Lock will not come out and service their poorly installed system. They told me to call someone else. Do you believe that? They installed it last year, cashed my $2000 check but will not fix the system they installed. BUYER BEWARE! read more

My HOA required me to get a security key from Metro Locksmith. I went down at lunchtime between meetings, and found out to be a cozy shop. I even bought some girl scout cookies from them since the owners daughter is in girl scouts. However, when I returned home, I discovered that the keys had been incorrectly made. I called them and asked that they make a correct set and deliver them, at least as a courtesy for their mistake. Nope. I have to go all the way back thanks to their ineptitude. Not helpful at all. Really pleasent guy turns up at my door, quotes me a price $300 more than 2 other quotes. No problem - give them a second chance. Another job comes up quoted $1,500. I call another company out to give me a second opinion and find that damage has been done to some wiring and quotes me $150 to repair. While the Metro Lock may have been a really nice guy, I find the dishnesty or incompetence thoroughly disgusting. read more

I used metro in the past their workmanship and charges were reasonable however on Oct,6-2014 I called Metro to replace one of the deadbolt I was having a problem.I told technician to replace it instead of repairing it and I agreed with him the cost of removing the old deadbolt and replacing with the new one.everthing was fine until I got final bill in witch his charge of $60 for strike plate adjustment in addition to $50 service call.My understanding was its included when he replaced the new deadbolt.The technician never mentioned about the unreasonable strike plate adjustment charge.I am very disappointed,they have lost one of the loyal customer. read more

I am shocked that other people have had good experiences with this company. I had to get a duplicate key made here for my condo building because of HOA rules. No problem, I understand. When the key THEY made broke in the lock to the front entrance of our condo building. The lock that THEY installed, just a few months later, they made me pay $15 bucks for an extra key, and come down to their shop during the work day to get it. WTF!!!! I am a petite woman and I assure all y'all that I was not misusing the key in any way. I don't see why I should pay because they f'ed up. They suck. read more
