It is served by the 1 and A trains all the time and the C train at all times except late nights. Transfer between the lines is inside the fare control, i.e., you do not need to leave and re-enter to pay another far. There are elevators available for the transfer. The station is reasonably clean and well lit. It's rather loud when the express trains pass through on the center tracks but there isn't much to be done about that except plug your ears. The station opened in 1948. [Review 15644 overall - 241 in New York - 1148 of 2021.]

The older I get the more likely a train home is better suited to my needs. I'm giving this station three stars. I don't use it to commute daily. Daily commuters may have a different opinion. The time of day I travel it's quiet and clean. I'm writing this review because of my love of this stations tile. The pastels in this subway are some of my favorite. I do enjoy visiting subway stations and posting on Yelp. I also post in case other Yelpers want to visit historic neighborhood locations. I try to give you ideas. If you enjoy Subway Stations and Tile Work be sure to check out this station. Enjoy the neighborhood while you're here. That's another review!

This station was closest to Fort Washington Park where I wanted to be and while there isn't much for signage, Google Maps got it done. This station serves the A line and is between 181st Street and 184th Street. It is partially handicapped accessible from the street to the mezzanine level only, not to the platform level. This is at the entrance of the George Washington Bridge, which is also a good bridge for pedestrians. Getting off here really sucks because it's not a pleasant place to be in. There's all kinds of crazy sketchy people hanging out. Also it seriously gets hot. It's a lot like a furnace kind of. The station also is deep underground so it takes forever to get up an escalator so using it sucks.

Aaah yes, taking the ferry home on a Friday that also happens to be a prematurely warm and sunny not-quite-spring day. The ferry is too expensive to be a part of my daily commute. Comparing the $5.50 ride from World Financial Center to Jersey City (Paulus Hook) with the $1.75 PATH ride between World Trade Center and Exchange Place, you can see why the ferry is the Rich Man's PATH. Or, the poor man's cruise ship. Even the ferry terminal at World Financial Center is luxurious, at least compared to a PATH station. It's floating, and has a little balcony on the water where you can soak up that precious March sun while you wait for your ship to come in. It even had a nice clean bathroom, if you can handle the motion of the ocean. The PATH can't compare. The ferry ride takes about the same amount of time as the PATH ride (7 minutes from WFC to Paulus Hook). But unlike the five minutes you'll spend on the PATH, you can feel the salty wind in your hair, and the sun on your face, unless of course you get the boat where the upper level has been enclosed. But, still, you can pretend your itinerary takes you to somewhere more exotic than your average PATH stop... maybe Venice. A tourist you're not, but remember that some people travel far and wait a lifetime to glimpse these sights... the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Colgate clock, the tallest building in New Jersey, the tallest building in New York, cruise ships and tall sailing ships, all that and you can be home in time for dinner.

The elevated platform reminds me of the historic train lines I've seen in photos. I hope these two photos are posted correctly. They are two of my favorites. Enjoy

There's another station a few blocks away where you can make a transfer. Broadway is the other street here. It makes an important intersection in Harlem at 125th Street. There's a lot of history around this. Close to here is Grant's Tomb, if you're into Civil War and political stuff. If you're into African American culture, then this is the place for you. It's close to Columbia University, a very nerdy smart college that can still be cool. There's a lot of good bars and restaurants. It's also close to CCNY. That's the school that was known for their great basketball team until a scandal. Best of all is looking out from the station and seeing everything. There's a great view of the Hudson River. It can get pretty cold. It's way up there with no roof. This can make for great views.
