Came here for a very last minute passport photo for a child - for a non-American passport. Everything went easy breezy. I called beforehand, was told how long they would be open and what not to wear (extremely helpful), arrived half an hour later and got the pictures taken right away. For a really good price! The store itself feels a bit claustrophobic (I counted all the printers, it was over 20 lol) but also kind of cool. There are these little plastic animals on all the surfaces and printers and every nook and cranny of the place is crammed. The owner is a very friendly man who is great with kids. He was prompt and knew what he was doing, and I was out within 10-15 minutes with photos that matched the required guidelines both in print copy and digital. They are very efficient during these COVID times. I was in and out here to have my passport photo taken. I called in to give them a heads up that I would be coming in. They practiced all the safe guidelines. They only allow one person inside at a time. The perk here is that he took 3 different types of photos and gave me the option to select which one I preferred. This is a great place to get passport photos! There was never a wait, and Frank was excellent at telling you exactly what to do (move hair out of face, turn head slightly, tilt chin down, etc). I got my passport picture on the first try, although he's happy to take several so you have options. I even had my toddler's photo taken here! Frank was very patient taking maybe 20+ photos until we got a good one. It helped that he had a fun selection of animal figurines in his store to hold her interest! We'll be coming here for all our passport photos going forward. read more

If you need a passport photo in Berkeley, this is the place to go. You reserve an appointment for your passport photos so it is only you in the shop when you arrive. The appointment is for 30 minutes (which is a lucky thing because I showed up a little late - oops - and they were very kind). They take about 5 digital photos and then you get to choose the best one. They even have a mirror so that you can do last minute touch-ups before taking your picture. A simple headshot photo for OPT costs $11 (which isn't cheap at all, but can't complain) but he sends a super compressed file so it "meets the standards" - the image is super blurry so I requested for the unmodified version that I can just downsize myself to a decent quality. Metro Publishing is amongst the shops across the street from Le Cal Berkeley Campus. It is situated amongst the shops there and is virtually next door to University Press Bookstore. I am currently taking a six-week documentary film history class this summer with the newly minted film and media professor I mentioned in my review of Zellerbach Hall. (I shall refer to him as "Le Professeur" as he may be mentioned in future Yelp! reviews.) Le Professeur thinks quite well of Metro Publishing and has gotten readers printed there since his GSI days. When he announced he was going to go to Metro Publishing to check to see if they were ready, I announced I would go there with him. I was a tad bit concerned having read some of the reviews on Metro Publishing. I was surprised when Le Professeur was not uploading his assigned readings like many of his peers and his professeurs before him on the Cal intrawebs. He had thought about it yet decided to work with what is best for him. And he has a professional rapport with the owner so he likes to give Metro Publishing the business. (Okay, if it ain't broke don't fix it.) Well, that was quite easy peasy when we arrived at Metro Publishing. Some of the class members were leaving with readers in hand. And there were a few in front of me purchasing their readers. When I saw the stack of the class readers, wow! They were simple yet very beautiful! And reasonably priced too! One of the class members thanked him for saving her money and paper in printing online documents on her way out the door. One of the associates rang up the cost of my reader which totaled about $25 including tax. I did check-in on Yelp! regarding Metro Publishing and whoops, forgot my pack of paper. Must stop by to do so. Five stars because Le Professeur thinks quite well of Metro Publishing. Cool. read more

I came here to get passport photos done for my visas abroad and they were so cheap! 4 photos for $6.99 which is half the price of all the other close by places who do the service. Everywhere else was 2 for $8 or more. The service was very quick and professional. He took the picture on his Mac with a nice webcam and a digital camera and then edited it on photoshop. Fast, cheap, competent. I went in to fax four pages and it came out to be $3. Got my confirmation page printed out and everything. While I was there, he made copies for a guy in 60 seconds (give or take a few). A couple more people were there for internet--one on the many desktops that are set up there, and one using the wireless on his own laptop. Very calm inside. Call beforehand to check out prices. An alternative to Zee Zee Copy's busy atmosphere! read more

This is someone who really takes care with passport photos. Before I even sat down, he told me my bangs had to be off my eyebrows for the photo to pass. He adjusted my position meticulously & took three different shots to get a picture that would not only pass but that I would like. I waited for 30 minutes, and then someone who had been in earlier (but left) walks in and gets seated before me. I'm aware that that individual came in a while ago. However, if I'm actually staying inside your business and waiting, I should take precedence. The owner told me it'd be another 15 minutes after he took the pictures of the other girl. This place was very fast. I had 2 passport pictures for 10 bucks even, and I was out the door in less than 10 minutes. I thought the price was a little higher than other people had mentioned but was still pretty cheap. This place is on Bancroft right next to the Student Union at Telegraph Avenue. The parking really stinks, but I got lucky during the middle of the day and got a spot right up front. read more

You need to make an appointment prior visiting the store. I contacted them a day before around 5pm and Frank replied my email really fast! I'm taking passport photo, and he reminded me to not wear white because the background will be white, which is very nice of him to remind me! (I almost wore white lol) On the appointment, he told me to sit in a booth-like place and explained on where to look at the camera for the picture. He took the picture remotely (i think 4/6 feet away? With his mask on) i felt really safe with the covid protocol, especially since I need to take off my mask for the picture. The picture is done in 7 mins, and he took 4 pictures so you can choose on which one you want to develop, the copies turns out perfect. Also the store is playing classic songs (which makes me feel like I'm at a fine dining restaurant lol). All in all, I definitely recommend this store! It's fast, safe, Frank is super kind and they use a legit pro camera for the pictures, unlike cvs with their old style camera. Btw they preferred cash, but accept card as well. read more

I've bought some readers here for UC Berkeley and they were fine, but then one day I stopped in to make a copy (JUST one, b&w) and the guy said it was 25 cents!! And then . . . he was like "do you have change, cause we don't accept anything bigger than $1 bills" . . . WTF!??!?! I was going to BART anyway so I just went to a place on Oxford near Bancroft and it was only 2.5 cents a copy! So yeah, copies are overpriced, service was rude, and they have stupid change rules . . . def never going here again. read more

It's in a convenient location, but other than that, thinking of something good to say about this place is like pulling teeth. The owner makes it seem like he's doing you a favor by letting you buy a reader, make a copy, or pay to use the internet. I paid to use the internet once, and I was with my dad at the time. We just had to use the internet for about 30 seconds to look something up. After we paid, the owner said only one of us could be even near the computer and that my dad either had to stand outside or pay for another computer. I guess there was a reason the place was empty at the time --poor customer service! I also had to buy a reader here once, and the owner would not even let me check to see if it was the correct reader until after I paid for it (and there are no returns either!). Metro Publishing is a small internet/business cards/copy store located on Telegraph Ave.. Telegraph is pretty busy since it's located right across from UC Berkeley. You'll have to circle a few times around the block to look for parking, or there's a parking structure located on Durant Ave. and Telegraph Ave. The first time I went to Metro Publishing to buy business cards. The guy working there was pretty nice. He showed me the different options and pricing, but I ended up not ordering there because I wanted to shop around first. I went there a second time to buy a class reader. The person working there only allowed three people in at a time. His explanation for that was that the store is too small. I told him the class I was taking and and he just rang me up for the reader. He didn't even let me check to see if it's the right one. Customer service could have been better. read more
