I am and have been getting quotes for PPF and a ceramic coating. My car is brand new, like still at the dealership new. The car is a two door convertible, so no roof and only two doors to do. The ppf quote came in at $6500. It wasn't the craziest but not the best quote either. Here is the clincher, the ceramic coating quote came in at $2000!! I mean, I thought we got our wires crossed and maybe he thought I meant for a partial ppf or something. Nope, not a mistake. That was a real quote! This guy must be very, very good and applying a ceramic coating. That's to rich and ridiculous blood. Feels like he was trying to take advantage of me. Recently, my car was sprayed with a white substance that left white specs all over the front and down the sides. Ray, the owner and installer at PPF Wrap Up, falls neatly into this category. Soft-spoken and unassuming, Ray has an eye for fine details. But, don't be fooled by his mild-manner ways. Under that exterior is seething enthusiasm for perfection. In some sense you are paying for what you DON'T see! After leaving Ray's I drove my new Rivian RS1 to pick up a friend and show off my brand new car. Well aware I had just left the PPF installer, he exclaimed, "Does this car even have PPF?!?" You wouldn't know other than the immaculate finish. The PPF edges are all tucked in. There is no "wave pattern" across the top of the hood. There are no bubbles or other surface imperfections. I'll admit when I picked up my new Forest Green Rivian at the dealer, I was a little disappointed. The car had been given a quick wash and was still dirty in spots and along the edges. The Forest Green color didn't pop like I had imagined that it would. Undeterred, I knew PPF was the way to go. But which installer? I called around getting quotes and requested a quote from Ray's website. I briefly considered doing it myself. But after a late-night deep dive into the DIY PPF world, I knew I didn't have the experience and didn't possess the skill set up to my standards. Ray's quote came in slightly below other installers that I considered. Pulling into Ray's spotless shop I felt confident I had made the right decision. Ray told me what he was going to do: wash the car; polish the car, look for and repair any paint imperfections. Wrap the car. Wait for the car to cure. Ceramic coat the car. I took another car to Ray to remove its ~9 year old partial ppf, paint correct and wrap the whole car in ppf. He did an AMAZING job for a good price. He polished out all the micro swirls and scratches, and the paint looks new. He took the time to take tons of before and after pics and videos, and even made time for me to come check out the polished paint before putting on the ppf, so that I can see the post-correction paint myself. The ppf wrap itself is perfect as well. Edges are wrapped around body panels or tucked under seals wherever possible. A couple of seams that were necessary are perfectly lined up with no gaps and are not noticeable unless you get up close. I couldn't be happier with the end product. Note that his initial work gets you 99% of the way there, and it's during his complimentary 2 week check up when he dials everything in just perfectly after the wrap settles in a bit. He stands behind his work, and you're in good hands with Ray. read more

Before installing the PPF Ray does a full exterior wash and also points out any imperfections that will show up underneath the PPF. Ray did a full paint correction, as well as a full front and rear PPF wrap, and a full ceramic coat on my 1967 Shelby GT350. He walked me through the whole process, letting me know the condition of the car/paint and areas to look out for. He took a lot of pictures, and showed me the before and after results. I recently had Ray, the owner, do a full wrap on my black Tesla Model Y using XPEL Stealth (which is a satin finish). It turned out excellent! Since I live in the Southern Marin area, I contacted several PPF wrap shops in San Francisco, the North Bay and Sacramento, just to get a sense of various installation techniques and overall pricing. After having my initial call with Ray, it was clear he was hands down the most knowledgeable and thorough PPF installer in the area, and reasonably priced. Before I even decided to install PPF on my car, I had heard that using a satin finish on a black car isn't easy and the installer needs to be really careful. The satin wrap and black color aren't very forgiving -- the black color poses challenges showing imperfections in the paint (i.e. small chips in the paint, or prior bubbling, etc) and the wrap only magnifies those issues that may have already existed in the paint. So selecting a good installer is important. Fortunately, Ray's meticulous intake process (prior to his PPF installation) addresses these issues. He thoroughly inspected my car when it arrived at his shop, and walked me through existing imperfections in the paint that would likely result in issues after the installation is complete. For example, while he inspected my car, Ray noticed that Tesla had spot painted/treated certain areas of my fender and door panels by attempting to sand and paint poor paint work likely initially done from the Tesla production plant -- and remember, this is on a brand new car. In this instance, because this poor paint correction by Tesla would be magnified after the PPF was installed, Ray suggested I just take it back to Tesla and have them correct this BEFORE Ray does the PPF installation. I was really surprised that he even suggested me to do this, because not only did I not notice these issues when I received the car from Tesla, but Ray essentially lost work for the rest of the day by having me take it back to them. And he only did this to ensure that my car was done properly. That's the kind of guy Ray is. He is honest, extremely passionate about his work, and VERY detail oriented. And for a PPF installer, those qualities are what you really want. Once Tesla corrected the paint issues, I brought it back to Ray's shop to finally do my PPF installation. It turned out amazing!!! Ray even had me bring the car back to his shop a couple weeks after the installation, just to see how the installation was holding up. He again thoroughly inspected my car, to ensure everything looked pristine. I get many complements on my matte finish, and usually get asked who did the installation. Ray is just a fantastic PPF wrap installer and an overall great person. When I get my next car, I will definitely bring it to PPF Wrap Up again.
