This is a terrible place to go to if you're a casual comic fan such as myself. The selection for accessories is atrocious, and the customer service is just terrible. Every time I ask a question, I get an answer in a tone of voice that makes it seem like I insulted them. This place is a total hidden gem if you are into comics. I originally came here to get sleeves for some cards i had and needed to be placed away. .25cents a sheet of 9 slots so will hold about 18 cards. Not a bad deal. But if you are spending less then ten dollars you better have cash. Minimum to use a card is $10 here. Sucks They couldn't make an exception but its ok I guess. In the back was a long table full of comic book fanatics so Im sure if you're lost, you have plenty of people to help you. Everyone seemed extremely nice and the place is well kept. So I've visited almost all the comic shops south/s.east of the 105 fwy down to Orange County. Here's my rundown on my visit... I stopped in here one day on my way home from the South Bay, it's definitely out of my way, but I'm sure glad I stopped. The store is in a so so neighborhood but it's close to the freeway and easily accessible. This is a great store and I wish that it was my local shop. It's a true classic style comic shop. Their selection of new books is pretty good. I didn't see many indy titles. The books are displayed well and organized. As for the back issues there are not only recent issues (1-2 years), they have plenty of late silver to early modern age books. I was able to come away with a few books I needed. They even did a search in some bins that weren't out on the floor yet. (Great customer service!) Quite a few key issues on display along the walls. Well priced and very affordable. They did have some bargain bin boxes with a lot of books, the only downside there was no order to them and there were way too many books to look through. (SHOP: I recommend you invest in some dividers and at least group them alphabetically.) A small but decent collection of trades. There were even a few tables for gaming, that didn't take away from key comic book space. I did find a website that had some events listed for the year. Their Facebook page was only found after visiting the website. Can't wait to come in for an event sometime. Keep up the good work. read more

OK so I don't actually read comics but my best friend does and when she said she needed to go here I tagged along. She wanted to pick up the new Firefly comic and didn't see it on the shelf. She is kinda shy so I offered to ask bout it. The guys there were AWESOME! Soooo friendly and helpful, pointed it out right away and then let us know that if they are ever out of stock on something that they will order it for us asap. Now we came here because she got totally rude and unhelpful service at a store in Whittier so the fact that Metropolis Comics was so nice made me have to give them kudos on here! Another of my favorite comic book stores. Metropolis offers fantastic personalized service. Their subscription membership is a great deal - for an annual fee not only do you get all the pulls you want (given, a lot of other comic book stores offer pull service for free), but here's the real deal, you also get a free copy of Previews every month. For me, the subscription to Previews is worth the cost. Ever since the very first time I walked in the door, everyone there has known me and greets me by name when I come in. I heart the owner, Gail, she is the best. Another thing I love about Metropolis is the layout; at other shops, either the comics are arranged alphabetically or by publisher, but at Metropolis there are sections for comics that came out this week, last week, 2 weeks ago, and 3 weeks ago. Hello, it makes perfect sense! Maybe it takes a female comic book shop owner to do things right, eh? Anyway, Metropolis is definitely more the superhero type of shop, hardly any manga and few alternative comics. They really know their stuff and are good about carrying kid-friendly comics and a variety of graphic novels. I'll give the nod to Pulp Fiction for a better selection, but I am eternally grateful to Metropolis for hooking me up from day one with really excellent service and ordering for me everything I want or need. read more

Metropolis Comics is the best at what they do but what they do is awfully nice. Set up The store has a great set up and is well organized making it really easy to find the comics you are looking for. Unlike most stores this comic shop is well lit and clean. The store is also set up in a spacious way that makes it comfortable and inviting. Be cautious though it's really easy to spend countless hours at the store. It's a great environment for kids too you can tell the store tries to cater to everyone not just adults and not just kids. The hours are great they are open 7 days a week typically from 11 am to 8 pm except new comic days they open an hour earlier. Events They always have great events their free comic book day is still the best I have ever seen, they always raffle off some cool prizes, have a signing and have a sale of some sort. Be for warned though the free comic book day tends to draw a lot of people so the line can get pretty long but it's so worth it. Savings The store is always having sales for example on Tuesday after 5pm all trades and hard covers are 25% off, also they have an overstock sale going on right now all these great main stream comics for 1$. If that doesn't make you feel like they are saving you money they got these boxes called Metropolis Mystery Box 100 comics for 10$ you just can't beat that deal. Clubs and other mini events So they have all kinds of clubs and mini events at the store. First is Friday Night Magic and Saturday Night Magic, I don't play magic often but when I do I play there, I am still pretty much a new to the game so the guys their tend to take it easy on me. They also have a kids club for kids under thirteen which is free to join, for every 5 comics a kid buys they get the 6th one free, I wish I had that when I was a kid. Also they just started this really cool club called the comic book club. It works just like a regular book club we all pick one comic to read together and at the end of the month we discuss it. I just had my first meeting last month at and it was great just having a deep discussion about the themes, events and hidden meanings with in a comic was epic fun. I highly recommend it for a hardcore comic fan. The Staff As great as everything else in the store is it's the staff that really makes the store shine. They are friendly knowledgeable and love to talk to the customers. They always give me an honest opinion about what they think of a book they don't just sell me anything like they would in other stores. When I first got into comics they helped me catch up and told me what were good and essential reads. Also most stores staff never let you read comics at their store. That is not the case at Metropolis they let me read at their tables all the time. If I had one complaint about the store it's that it's not open 24 hours well in the words of the great Stan Lee "nough said" I hope you guys found this review helpful and go check out this awesome store. read more

Great Vibe! I'm fairly new at reading comics, it hasn't even been ten years yet, so I have a lot to read and learn. I've only recently decided to be a member about a month ago. I love the hunt for comics I've missed but now I just go straight to Metropolis. Mike and James know their stuff and I wholeheartedly trust their opinions on what's good and what I need to read right now. They also don't judge me for picking up whatever it is I feel like picking up or trying out. They make my husband and I feel welcomed and they always point us in the right direction. We learn something new every time we stop by. The store is organized and even displays important comic events in order on the walls which helps me figure out what I still need to read and in what order. They carry all the titles I follow and the way they setup my pull list makes picking up my comics easy. It's also great that my husband can pick up my pull list on his way home. Being a member here is great but most of all we love Mike and James. The staff is friendly and I would recommend this store to everyone I know because its the the people who you interact with that give this place heart. read more

Well, this place is great if you're coming for new issues. If you're hunting for back issues, good luck. It's really unorganized and they charge cover price PLUS bag/board (and then plus tax on top of that). I mean, come on.. cover price for back issues is just insane. There's a reason they didn't sell before so why continue to charge full price. I like to back issue hunt and grab a ton of back issues because it's affordable.. well, not for this place and that really rubs me the wrong way. Aside from that, they had some ok statues, a few tpb's and a decent selection of new releases. Definitely not enough for me to want to go back to though. Customer service was nice.. a nice lady in the back greeted me better than the cashier (who was busy talking about cryogenics.. lol). read more

My review is one day late but I had to post this. I visited the store yesterday around 11:40am, and it was closed. ??? It was my first time trying to visit the store to grab some comics but I couldn't get in because the owner or associate didn't open it yet. I just noticed it says they open at 10am now? Yesterday the store hours said 11am open but we're not open. I specifically came here because of the cool reviews but I didn't get to experience the store. That sucked. Oh well. You lost a potential customer. There was another guy there waiting too and suggested to just go to comic cult down the block from there. I did. And they were open. They have my business now. it is one of the best comic book stores and convenient friendly welcoming, easy to look at, kid friendly you will know where the kid section is. and it doesn't smell like nerds. i like coming here parking is easy, and the overall atmosphere is positive. im just opposed to the name which from dc comics where i am a marvel fan, its just how it is. oh and if you are abnormally short you might not be able to reach the comics. read more

One visit and I'm a fan. I found 7 elusive back issues of Aquaman the New 52 AND issue 50 from Dec 98! A true comic book store that focuses on comic books. There is some merchandise but it's mostly comics. I'll be back to keep searching for those elusive missing issues. read more

After mixed reviews I decided to check the place out. As mentioned, Their biggest strength are the paperbacks and t-shirts. Real impressive stuff that I haven't seen in any other shop. Like I stated they do have lots of back issues but not a great selection but still at a reasonable price. One of the workers there( a lady) was super nice and helpful. Awesome place my friend and I found to play FNM, everyone here is really friendly and helpful. They do not sell many individual cards, but they do have tons of comics here! I found this place by luck, and now I dont have to drive all the way out to fullerton to play some weekly Standard. I really do wish they did Draft more than once a month though, because it tests creativity and is completely luck based. Either way i'm having fun here, and will continue to show up on Fridays :D. read more
