If I could give them 10 stars I would. We are on a long camping and off-roading trip in our Land Cruiser 200 series and needed a quick stop to get a few things done before starting on the Dalton. On a day's notice they fit us in, completed everything by 5pm same day, and charged a reasonable price. The cherry on top was that we forgot to unlock the spare on the swing out, but they figured out where the key to the lock was and unlocked it and rotated the tires then re-locked it and returned the key. The women at the garage are very kind and the service was same day. I really appreciate that. As a single mom I want to warn others on a limited budget to get their oil changed elsewhere or do it yourself if possible. The oil change costs over $280. This shocked me, but I should have asked upfront. There was nothing special about the oil change in comparison to Chevron station. Comes with inspection and oil. Possibly this shop is meant for repair issues which they did get my electronics under control. I just felt like others could be spared expense for basic oil change. That hurts! ETA: Metropolitan Garage were very responsive. I know now to always ask upfront what to expect and the costs. Thank you for amending the issue Metropolitan. read more

I have been bringing my Subaru to Metro since 2017. They have taken care of my car exceptionally well. They also performed extra check-ups before the winters. I was away since 2019 and just returned to Fairbanks. Although the people at the front desk are new, their service is just as good. They communicate in a way I can actually understand everything very clearly, with pictures and notes, so decisions are easy to make. Came back to get an inspection & the lady scheduling me was super helpful. We worked together to identify what I needed and what was most cost effective and gave me what I was looking for. I got updates throughout the day as decisions needed to be made. For the inspection results, I was provided with a link that had all of my car's info. Everything that was inspected had a comment as to what it was, it's condition, recommended repairs or current status, pictures of every item, and why things needed replacing. It's way more in-depth than I thought it would be and super useful. They're once again super honest about the details to my car & helping me to resolve issues. Well for one of my favorite shops in all of Fairbanks unfortunately this experience was not positive. I picked up my vehicle and it was considerably more than it was quoted, and I had to take it back and return it to advisor immediately after getting at home and noticing the vehicle leaking coolant. Brought my car in for routine tire swap, but they managed to trouble shoot and fix a problem at the same time. Still in and out in one day!

My "service 4 WD" light came on. Thankfully, they were able to get it in relatively quickly. As with most times you take your car to the shop, more repairs were needed. They sent my husband pictures as to why other repairs were needed, which was very nice of them. They were able to fix it in one day, and even stayed after closing in order to get it done that same day!! We offered to come back the next day to pick it up instead but was re-assured that it was no problem to have it fixed that same day! Wow! The staff was very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly, and the overall feel of the shop is very nice. Love the decor for sure. These folks are great. I wasn't in a rush so I had my car towed in for service ans we spoke regularly as they repaired the long list of issues my beater with a heater needed repaired. Including a heater fan. For all the work I had done they were reasonably priced. They knew I was traveling and were great fitting my car in as they were winter and covid swamped. I have used them for several years. They have always been friendly and very professional, courteous and the car runs great! I am thinking of buying a different car and have limited my possible purchases to subaru, toyota and honda, because I want Metro to work on it. They keep very good records and tell me when things need to get replaced or when we are just "monitoring" various parts of my very old subaru legacy. One example I can remember is when my brakes were getting worn. They gave me a 5 part rating and said new brakes would be a 5, my brakes were at a 3 and they should be replaced at some other number (2?) I cannot remember. What I Do remember is that they explained it well and reminded me when it was time. The gals behind the service counter really know automobiles too and seem very happy in their work, which makes it pleasant to go in there. Also, there is a nice little area where you can wait and connect to wifi, Lately the owner has begun to tell me it is time to start thinking of getting a different car, instead of just repairing this one. Of course it might be in his best interest to keep repairing this, piece by piece, but he has MY best interest in mind. I find them to have very high ethical standards. read more

I originally reviewed at 4 stars, and I'm updating this to 5 because the previous issue (feeling like I was being talked down to) has not been the case since that one time. I've been going to Metropolitan now for a few years, and I value their honesty. I drive an old, high mileage Subaru, and I want to keep driving it for as long as possible. They understand that I am also on a budget, and when something is starting to need a repair, they let me know whether it is an urgent safety issue or something to keep an eye on. For instance, the last several times I've been in, they've said let's keep an eye on those brake pads. You don't need to replace them yet, but be sure to pay attention because they will need replacing soon. They don't push me to get repairs done prematurely. This week, I had my fuel pump go out. I initially scheduled an appointment with Metro, but then chose to try to replace it myself. When I called with a question about the fuel pump, Jill took the time to research the problem I was having and help me out, and she knew that I had cancelled my appointment with them for that same repair. I like to do some of my own car repair work occasionally, to save money and because I think it is fun to learn about car repair. I have a working fuel pump now, and Metropolitan has my business in the future and my recommendations to anyone with a Subaru. I take all the repairs I don't do myself to them (even oil changes). They don't make me feel bad for trying to do some of the work myself. Great customer service, I'm treated with respect. Every repair and oil change I've had done at Metro has been as quoted and has resolved the problem. They respect that I am on a budget, and also help me learn more about how to fix my car myself for the times that I want to. Thank you! read more

I took my car here for the first time in February of 2020 for something that needed to be fixed right away, and my dad couldn't do it (I don't remember what was fixed now). They were very easy to work with and i was able to get in soon and it took just a day. I was able to pick up my car after hours and pay on the phone. They worked around my schedule perfectly! After that experience I took my car in for a full diagnostic at Metropolitan Garage before selling it to my sister. They worked up a full report with all the information I needed to know. Including pictures! For someone who knows extremely little about cars, this was a god send. I was able to look at it myself and see what things needed to be prioritized and what could wait a bit. I called with any questions I had and Abby was nice and thorough. I was able to make another appointment to get things fixed and also within my time frame! I have a 2005 Subaru, and they've treated her perfectly through the whole process. Not once did I feel like they were pressuring me to get anything fixed. I had been going to Dietrich's Auto in the same location for years and years and was sad when I heard that he had left town. Dietrich was the best mechanic we ever used. Since then it's been a lot of heartbreak. Ending up going years and years without a good mechanic because we had off brand cars from his shop. Finally getting rid of all the garbage brands that led to garbage shops, we went back to the brands Dietrich's would work on only to find out Metro had replaced them. We had heard good things and were happy to see they work on the same brands. So the car went in and needed major brake work in the rear. They did a great job. The repair was at a reasonable rate and they were very accommodating on the timing. Schedules were tight on both ends. However, one thing was troubling and I'm hoping can be resolved. The car has had a brand new piece of the interior broken by the mechanics. It's a very difficult piece to find as it's essentially a part of a part, but its a very important part because it significantly reduces the pleasure in driving it now that the part the worked fine and I had just replaced was now broken and glued, "epoxied" which didn't work. It broke, their epoxy job, immediately the first time I tried to use it. End result my center arm rest is constantly springing up over and over every time I move my right arm. Dangerous and annoying and why I spent hours and $69 to fix it from when I got it from the previous owner. I wasn't gonna say anything until I went in for a tune up in 4,000 miles but I just checked the oil which I thought might be a little low after 500 miles and was shocked to see it at a full quart over! So, now, I can fix the oil problem but please order an armrest so y'all can fix what y'all broke. Thanks. Dietrich five stars for always going the extra mile. Metro will be raised to four stars supposing I get the armrest fixed right at no extra charge and we go back to square one. read more
