Had I done that, I could stop here as this is the cherry on top. (Yes my gym vision board is in the shape of an ice cream sundae) Please note I'm posting this in 2020 and so things are weird, I'm paying more attention to things I wouldn't typically note. A place to deadlift next to a cozy garage door... I can only imagine the door open on a perfect Seattle summer day, but atlas it's winter and I was just thankful the sun was shining so I could soak up some vitamin D between sets. It's not common to find an AF with a deadlifting platform. Perks are that platforms make you instantly 10% stronger on all your pulls for some reason. It's bro science I think. I have a larger than your average water bottle (64 oz) and the water bottle filler fills it up without timing out or stopping. This made me ridiculously happy as usually I'm awkwardly wiggling around my bottle trying to get the water to start again, making a mess, etc etc. IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS. The whole time I was there the staff was cleaning which was very nice to see they are taking all the precautions! Not to mention this is def the largest AF I've ever been to which made social distancing a snap. On the way out the gal in the office bid me farewell and used my name which was a super sweet touch as it's not my most frequented AF at the moment. Really felt welcomed and apart of the community. 10 outa 10 highly recommend.

Nevertheless, this winter (I am writing on January 19, 2024) the temperature inside is simply set too high. It gets intolerably warm to me and sometimes the heat blasts on my face. I asked one of the trainers about it and he said the thermostat is set to vary between 68-72. But two days ago the heat was blasting on my head and the thermostat said 73. I'm an older guy (61) and we usually complain that rooms are too cold! This is just bizarre. This morning I went to the Anytime Fitness on Rainier and it was the perfect temp: 62. The thermostat was set between 62-65. Now that's appropriate for a gym. I just don't think people want living room /fireplace temperatures when they are exercising! I'll probably just keep going to the one on Rainier until the weather warms up because of this one but deal-breaking factor. If it's just me I'm happy to stand corrected; I've found an alternative even though I'd prefer to exercise at this location. Thanks for reading. -- Matthew Soper

I've been coming to this gym for a couple of years now. Overall, the gym itself is okay, but…read moreunfortunately this is not the first time this has happened. It's currently 5:16 AM and there's a line of people standing outside waiting to get in when the gym is supposed to open at 5:00 AM. The doors are still locked and there's no communication about what's going on. It's extremely frustrating because those of us who come this early are doing it for a reason. We're planning our workouts around work, commutes, kids, and everything else we have going on. If the posted opening time is 5:00 AM, members should be able to rely on the gym actually being open at 5:00 AM. I understand things happen, but when this has happened more than once, it becomes a reliability issue. We're paying members and shouldn't be standing outside wondering if or when someone is going to show up and open the gym. LA Fitness really needs to figure out a better system for making sure this location opens on time.

And let me tell you, Eric Dahlberg is as good as it gets in terms of coaching. I gave a couple of other martial art places a trial before settling with Ring Demon. Eric doesn't just teach you boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, or jiu-jitsu, he teaches you a way to think about martial arts in general---relying on technique, energy, and leverage instead of strength to defeat your opponents. He is also ALWAYS willing to help out and ask any questions---no private lessons required. I was intimidated at first because the only martial arts experience I had prior to going enrolling in Ring Demon was a few weeks of trial classes and a year of karate way back in high school. But the school's approach to helping new students learn and integrate made me get past my comfort zone and eventually be comfortable enough to learn and spar. Summary: Great coach, great training partners, great environment to learn.
