Great place, great environment, great coaches, and great community! Right when you walk in the front door, the feeling is different than other gyms. It is clean and put together from the entrance all the way to the back exit. Coach/owner, Allen, is supportive and passionate about his career. He genuinely cares about his members and their progress and health. Since working out regularly with him for the past year, I have greatly improved my form and strength on all movements. I sleep better. I move better. I just FEEL better all around. Every one of the coaches are knowledgeable and willing to spend the extra time with people to get things right. The community of people there is more like a family. From BBQ's on Friday nights, fundraisers to help out fellow member's medical bills, and personal assistance on nutrition challenges... it is obvious that everyone who goes to Interurban Athletics is there for more than a workout. But don't get me wrong, the workouts are amazing as well. The programming is exactly what is needed for people to reach their fitness and health goals. It's always a mixture of strength and cardio, and never boring! Interurban Athletics has an amazing community and sense of family values. It is not your typical scary, intimidating gym. The people here are about the most friendliest and supportive group as it gets. Interurban Athletics makes it fun to work out! Lots of laughing, sweating, and makes you want to keep coming back. The price is amazing compared to most gyms! If you are new to this type of functional fitness program, they offer Elements that helps go over the movements so you are not thrown in class not knowing what to do and not to mention keeps you safe. That ties into my next point to safety, you are not required to do the "subscribed" weight. They encourage that the movements be at an appropriate weight for you. It's not about ego at Interurban Athletics! Its about getting to and maintaining your goals! They even offer an Olympic Lifting Class at no extra charge to the members!! The Coach was amazing and walked us through the basics to make sure we have proper form. I felt more confident working on my technique and having the coach pin point areas in which I could improve on. I have not felt more at home in this gym! I've been practicing functional fitness (CrossFit) for seven years now. I've gone to many gyms and boxes around the northwest, and Interurban Athletics (IUA) ranks among the best gyms I've been to. First and foremost the coaches are well versed in functional fitness. I just want to mention a few in particular. Coach Allen started one of the original CrossFit gyms in the Seattle region, and he continues to have a following because of his expertise and knowledge of fitness and nutrition. Coach Vip is a Regionals CrossFit athlete with just as much coaching experience. If you want to get to a competitive level, Vip would be your coach. How about strongman and powerlifting? Grant Higa, hands down, is the best in this arena in the northwest. The best part is that all three will work out with the rest of the class as all good coaches should...actions speak louder than words. The programming is on point as well. Regardless of your skill/strength level, the workouts are scalable and will test your limits as any good workout should. The community at IUA is very supportive and encouraging. Coach Allen Valasco is hands down one of the best coaches I have ever had. No matter what your athletic ability is Coach Allen is there to motivate you through your entire workout. Coach Allen is very technical when it comes to breaking down movements. The warm welcoming environment that can only be described as a family/team atmosphere is a distinctive characteristic of interurban. The coaches walk around and actively give you feedback ranging from proper technique, positive motivation and injury prevention. It was a over a year since I saw Coach Allen and when I walked in he welcomed me with a high five and a hug. If you are in the South Side of Seattle, hell, if you are anywhere near this place, you need to stop by and check it out. My view on boxes has always be the same. You can have the newest, and best equipment, but without the people, the box is not going to be any good. This box has the people to motivate you, and probably make a few life long friends in the process. Allen is probably one of the best coaches in the greater Seattle area. Always a great guy to walk up to, and pick his brain on little tips to help you out. He is always looking to help. Amazing gym that brings family and group support into play. This is not a Globo gym where you get to show up and watch TV. You are expected to workout, support others, and have a great time doing it during the 60 minutes you there. All the workouts are programmed for the day and each person can do a program to their specific ability. The coaching staff know what they are doing and we have great team building spirit. read more
