There's something about the staff at this particular Met Market... Their vibe is really great. It actually feels good to walk in -- and I was looking for some summer sales. I walked in on a gorgeous peach display and though I had no intention of buying any I wound up deciding to take two home because they were so perfectly ripe. The first one I picked up had just the tiniest bit of that give which is so inviting. I didn't even want to look at the price because I was supposed to be doing "budget shopping." But when it comes to stone fruit that ripens in the summer? Irresistible. I walked in starving, it was late lunchtime, and everyone else was apparently trying to get a bite because the ready-made food here is somehow so good. I was tempted to get the brisket sandwich because I saw the way the young Chef seemed to be making it with such care and skill... But I headed over for something a little lighter and picked up an amazing locks on bagel sandwich which included the capers and the crisp slice of onion that always adds the nice sharpness. Then I decided to try out their tasting option because the dude behind the deli counter was friendly and approachable: He seemed happy doing his job. So I wound up tasting four things then getting their salmon pasta salad as well as the Mediterranean salad which was flavored fantastically, not too much vinegar, and also their beet salad. I saw someone at the soup counter going crazy about the curry chicken but I didn't see any prices and when I asked him how much it was, we looked around and didn't see the price and I decided not to risk what could turn out to be an expensive surprise at this time. For sales, what blew me away was how the Lacroix for $3.99 per 12 pack. I took home 6 of those 12-packs because it's summer and it's an affordable alternative to alcohol that is refreshing and bubbly. There was another brand I've never seen before called rumble and it was on sale two for five dollars I'll come back for that. As it so happened, some of their kombucha was also on sale which is always appealing. I decided to try a new brand with two new flavors. At the register the tall young woman (wish I remembered her name) was very helpful when I asked for her best recommendation for a good but affordable chocolate bar -- she mentioned Met Market's own brand $2.99 and pointed it out...and then when I asked about her favorite she showed me the Chao (?) $5.98 brand which I had never purchased before. Eventually I went with Moonstruck a Portland brand I've tried before, for $4.99. They had a dark chocolate with blueberry that was new to me. Then the amazing associate helping bag my purchases saw how many bags I had and seamlessly asked if I needed a shopping cart or if I would like help out. I decided to opt for the latter, thinking I would tip out of gratitude. But Kristi generously helped me and then graciously refused anything. With a calm smile, when she picked up my distress, she explained it was policy not to accept when I tried to insist -- she was both disciplined and firm in such a professional way all I could do is feel grateful. She deserves a shoutout. It was barely 3 minutes of bagging and walking but between that conversation at the register and the consummate professional customer service that Kristi demonstrated so gracefully...I actually felt for the first time that there was a genuine connection with the that I will look forward to the next time I walk into the store. Now if I see her again I'll ask how her son is doing on his Crew team (when I asked she told me that's where she was going after work to take her son to crew) -- because I used to be a Coxswain. You would think that there's no way to make connections in a grocery store but this Met Market maybe proving me wrong. Later that evening plans abruptly changed and I needed to pick up a small birthday cake to celebrate someone's birthday last minute. I decided to go back to Met Market because I had seen the individually sized birthday cake cakes in the cooler earlier during my lunch run. I decided to go with a chocolate raspberry cake for $13.99 over the birthday cake that was vanilla frosted with beautiful sprinkles that was $9.99. Uncertain if my son would prefer Pie over cake, I decided to splurge and also pick up the best pie our family agrees we've ever tasted -- Whidbey Island Pies -- and selected a cherry to take home with me. Then I stopped by the chocolate section and picked up four different bars including Moonstruck from Portland, Chao the brand recommended by the register team person earlier in the day, as well as Neuhaus (?) as a small birthday treat because my son loves dark chocolate. I would like to preface this by saying I remember attending the opening of the Bryant met market in the fifth grade, I am mid 30s now and have been a loyal customer in all the time in between. Love the coffee area - I often sit down here with coffee and a baked good. Appreciate that getting oat milk is not an extra charge...I am not lactose intolerant by choice, lol, so why do I have to pay more for non regular milk. The poke here is way too spicy and the rice is too hard. It's hard to enjoy it when your mouth is burning! The sushi is pretty good though. Also, the hot food area, while flavorful, the dishes are pretty dry. They have an impressive sushi selection at this location! I have found Met Market's sushi to be one of the better grocery stores to offer it at a reasonable pricepoint. I was disappointed that there is not a self serve salad bar at this location. However, they do have a made to order salad and wrap bar. Instead, I opted to get some greens from the deli section. They have ample seating at this location - there is a quieter seating area by the coffee and bakery and the main seating area is at the front of the store. read more

Got the $12 bbq brisket sandwich yesterday, and when i got it home -- gross, gross, and gross! The brioche was completely soaked in bbq sauce, mayo from the coleslaw (way too much), and greasy fat. Yes, like everyone says so, the cookies are amazing, but the okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake) was NOTHING like the original okonomiyaki of Japan. It was not only burnt but also completely wrong from the concept level. You can say things like we adjusted for the US customers taste, but for this one, they just used the name and put Asian ish ingredients together. If you've ever wondered what it look like to be a level above a whole foods metropolitan market is the answer to that question. This place is as fancy as fancy can get and I absolutely love splurging here for a special occasion. The service is always top notch and it's clean and really nice although the area around here can get a bit dicey. There's a huge parking lot and even a little eating area of you purchase any hot food or salads. But if nobody mentions anything else, the one thing you absolutely have to try here is the cookie. Both their chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies are absolutely out of this world and I've been disappointed more than once when they go out of stock by the time I get there. I love this grocery store! Nice selection of products, and they have a couple of places in the store where you can sit and enjoy a lunch and/or coffee and people watch. Grace, one of their workers there, is a special joy, with a loud (!) infectious laugh that is a joy to hear. Do know that you pay for the pleasant people, nice environment, and good selection: prices are high here. Rishi teas, cheeses, and a cookie. Nice grocery store. A bit spendy. One can get an Italian moka pot, but not a brick of Velveeta to make game day queso, lol. They really need to teach their employees how to be friendly and polite. Every single time I've encountered either a checker or someone at a self service line, they are so rude! They clearly don't like their jobs and are miserable. Every. Single. Time. they are rude and condescending. And this has been multiple different people! I don't know what is going wrong in their training, but customer service is not something they're giving. I've also spoken to other people who have had the same experience at the same store! Management needs to do something ASAP! It's not the same as this at other Metropolitan markets clearly, the issue is with management here! I second the rude blond woman who works at the self checkout in the morning. Completely shocked what I experienced this morning ---I had just ordered an Americano at the coffee area and excited to stroll this beautiful store for the 1st time...i slipped and my coffee (brand new, totally full, piping hot American) dropped to the ground and landed on my foot and slashed all up my leg. I was so embarrassed and yet it was hot too. I looked up and there she was rolling her eyes down the aisle at me...I walked towards her to be sure she was looking my way and said "I am so sorry! I'm embarrassed !"....staring right at me, rolls her eyes, and picked up the phone to tell someone to clean it up. I stood shocked and said "Are you serious? It was an accident" She again, looks straight at me rudely and walks right by me and rudely says "at least it's coffee and NOT soup" I still couldn't believe it...with coffee drippings down my bare leg, and covering my shoe. I continued to shop and couldn't believe how I had been treated and mentioned it to two employees--making sure this wasn't overlooked since it was so rude and bizarre. They both confirmed this wasn't the first time with her....both these people were amazing--but as I left with my bag of $350 in groceries (and price has nothing to do with how you should be treated)....but I'll stay away given this experience for now. As caretaker for my elderly mother who has Alzheimer's, I prefer self-check, it's less confusing for her and makes it easier for me to handle her. I had 17-18 items and the rude woman I've read about in other reviews here, told me as I was setting up the paper bags, that self-check has a limit of 15 items. You're REALLY going to make me pack thing up, and move to a lane with a checker - despite are open spots at self-check, with my 83 year old demented mother in tow? Got it. As I'm folding the paper bags back up, tucking them BACK into their holder at self-check, she continues to scold me that the machines can't handle more than 15 items. I'm so angry I can't say a word. Some days you just need a little help - a better response would have been: "I see you're with your mom let me check you through and help but in the future we do have a 15 item limit". I head towards the one lane open with a checker and of course there's a line. So instead, I leave the cart and walk out of the store with my mom. I have no interest in supporting this business anymore. I called and left a voicemail about my horrible experience and to let them know there's a cart with 17 items sitting there they'll need to deal with, left my name and number - no response. Sad thing is, my mom's the one who loves this store, she was excited to shop there - I took her begrudgingly. Should have listened to my gut. Sometimes what is a basic task is a big joy for someone else. You have multiple bad reviews about poor experiences at your self-check and with your rude staff. Get a grip. read more

High Hopes, missing food, and customer service failures. I've been so longing for what seems forever, for some organization to take the old QFC/Value Village location on Crown Hill, to new heights. Enter the rumor, then confirmation, and now launch of the newest location of Metropolitan Market. An upscale grocery, owned by the Korean Retailer: Emart. But you won't find their food standard here, per se... instead their California subsidiary Good Food Holdings run things. They have had locations of their "Met Market" around Seattle for decades, so it's not a surprise that when it was announced they were building this location, high hopes flourished across my community. So after a crazy rush of people during the first few weeks of operations, things have calmed down a bit for me to come back, and see if they are living up to the high quality food that I have come to expect. Truth be told, I have always enjoyed Met Market food, when I lived on Queen Anne, it was my go-to for many things. Unfortunately, this location isn't living up to those standards yet... in fact, during the first couple week, and even now, about a month into their operations, they are still missing lots of the staples in their Hot Prep foods area, that has left me leaving the store empty handed. No Hot Breakfast options, as of a couple weeks ago, and nothing in the "chill case" either. Their Cupcake options are lacking, tell me why it's okay to only sell the same vanilla cupcake, with three frosting colors, but all basically the same flavor? Also, why $5 dollars each, for something that resembles the size of your home made, from a box style cupcake? Why not bigger, more lovely, and something that makes the cost worth an experience? For $0.50 cents more, you can go to one of top cupcake places in the country, and get a massive cupcake there... Ignoring the store has no soul, or flavor, it's gentrified washed look tells me it was all planned to look this way, the service doesn't seem to hold up either. An upscale grocery should NOT have self-checkout machines... there is no human connection, no reason to have an experience that differs from the Fred Meyer or Safeway down the street. I don't blame the staff, I blame the poor signage, lack of identity, or store designers that are looking for efficacy, over memorable food experiences. Also, being someone who lives nearby, I received a lovely mailer, with a promo card, a week or so before Grand Opening, and signed up for emails/offers. I was excited... I signed up... and nothing. I don't like receiving spam, but I was literally giving my contact information away, with permission to receive your marketing content... and nothing. I'm literally the target audience, middle to higher income, leans or has an affinity toward buzz words like "ancient" or "natural", I love yelping, and from brith to today (40+ years), I have lived in this community. Customer Service Fail here. I even emailed MetMarket to ask to be placed on their mailing list.... and nope, not even an acknowledge they received my email. Look, the store may be clean, generally well-stocked, an while higher priced than competitors, I could look past that, when it comes to food quality. My hopes were dashed, missing essentials in the hot bar, and I have yet to hear back about all the promotions I missed from my neighborhood grocery. I'll probably go back again, like today, to get a cookie for my child, but the taste of corporate feel of customer service, and lack of grocery store soul, has left me lacking. read more

I recently moved up to N. Seattle and this Met Market is the closest to my house. I've only gone twice but I absolutely love coming here! I've been to 2 other Met Markets in Seattle but this by far is my favorite. Lots of prepared food options, never a long wait to check out, and the cleanliness and overall modern feel just make this a lovely grocery store. I like this place. My biggest complaint is the general manager. Every time I've been here, the manager is lurking about over people and heard him talk rudely to an employee. Never seen the manager doing anything. He also dress so poorly as if he doesn't care about his job. I've talked to a few others that go here and they felt the same. The Met Market is super expensive so don't come here to do major grocery shopping unless you're Jeff Bezos or just don't care about how much money you spend. But it is a nice supermarket to shop in when you want to treat yourself or just need a few things. For example, my hubs and I went on a recent trip to buy Silk soy milk (it's actually a good price here), some freshly made sushi, the 3-piece fried chicken meal with two sides (such a good deal!!), and one of their special cookies (classic). We enjoyed our takeout dinner a lot. Keep the sushi counter, hot deli, and bakery stocked up and we will be back, Met Market! read more

Generally speaking, I like Met Mkt. I used to live close to the Magnolia store-- and it's a beauty and the employees are great. I recently visited the Crown Hill store and I wasn't very impressed. I went there specifically for their chicken pot pies -- that I bought frequently at the Magnolia store. They came in a white ceramic dish that are very nice to collect. I bought so many I was able to give several friends a set of 12. So -- I asked a woman who was stocking prepared foods where I might find the pot pies. She pointed to small quiches --- I pointed out that those weren't pot pies. She directed me to a guy in the deli. I asked him about pot pies and he looked at me like I was from Mars. I ended up buying the large family size pot pie--- $25 yikes!! And it was not that good. I've gone back to the Magnolia store looking for the elusive pot pies--- I give up. I wouldn't personally use this as my regular grocery store but I will absolutely burn too much money in their prepared food section as everything in that area looks delicious. And everything I have tried in that area has been SO GOOD - prepared dinners to warm up, THE Cookie (omg so worth the money), baked goods, breakfast sandwiches, pizza. The poke bar is on my to-get list. Their pressed juice is also delicious - I like the tangerine. I haven't loved their coffee though. I was excited when Met Market moved to my Crown Hill neighborhood. In the first few weeks, I had some good deli entrees. Then, the quality started going downhill. It's a risk to eat anything that sits around under a heat lamp - like Indian food (dried out sauce, stale rice) pizza (dried out crust) soup (gummy and stuck to the bottom of the pot), fish and chips, (very dried out fish, rubbery, inedible french fries.) At Town & Country, the staff refreshes the entrees on the hot bar. Not so at Met Market, where there are not enough employees to tend to the hot line. Just as with Safeway, where the produce is iffy and the meat often unspeakable) I stick to canned and boxed goods that can't be spoiled. The other problem is the very high prices - even higher than Whole foods with none of the quality. I am appalled by the reviews written by people of color about experiencing frequent racist treatment. I don't want to support a racist establishment. read more

If you're Black, then stay away from the Crown Hill location at 8532 15TH AVE NW in the Ballard neighborhood because the hostile clerks pretend that you're invisible and refuse to provide service. When I went inside today, three store clerks made it obvious they followed me around to see if I were shoplifting. Strike one. I went over to the fishmonger for a half pound of halibut and salmon but the guy pretended that I was invisible and acted as if he were too busy to help out a customer. Strike two. I went to self serve check out land which automatically timed out to prevent me from scanning groceries without assistance from the clerk. When the clerk arrived, she condescended and chastised me. Strike three. I demanded to speak with the store manager about my less than satisfactory store experience, that clerk told me a bald face lie and claimed he was not available. I unpacked all the groceries for my bags and immediately left the store because I refuse to accept poor treatment from people who have zero respect for Black people. A few hours later that same day, I called back and a Black lady in customer service ran interference for the store manager to handle the "Black problem". Although she twice attempted to transfer my call, she disconnected the line sending the direct message my experience didn't matter. I called again and spoke with the nonplussed store manager who acknowledged nothing about my experience and brushed aside my comments with the flat statement that he'd look at the video, as if to insinuate some type of crime had occurred. Evidently, in Ballard there's a crime called shopping while Black especially in high end stores such as Metropolitan Market. read more

When we moved to North Tacoma, from West Seattle, I insisted that our new house be within a mile of Met Market. We had one right around the corner in West Seattle, and it was important for me to continue to have ready access to this beautiful and welcoming market full of high-quality products - especially their produce, meat/seafood, and bakery. We regularly shop here for our weekly needs and it's always the first place we go for special occasions - parties, holidays, etc. We've had holiday meals catered here, and our guests always rave about the food. Our friends and family, when visiting, always insist on stopping at MM. It's really that good So happy I still have my favorite market so close by! read more

Wow! Love this market. Stopped by today and they were out of schnitzel. I was very lucky and was able to ask one of the Meat managers about the schnitzel, and he made me some in the back as there was none put out , ready to go. I really appreciated him making me some! My first visit here was awesome. The atmosphere and lighting is great, and while the food is higher priced than other places, there are many foods and drinks you can find here that other stores don't carry.
