Once in the store, a young employee asked me what I was looking for. When I told him, he said "the store did not carry that product." Fortunately I knew better, and told him that I already had verified that it was on the shelves somewhere. He walked away, leaving me to find it on my own, which I eventually did. If I had not verified it's presense, I would have driven home empty handed. Maybe this employee could use a little more training?

There are two floors to the store, with the majority of home improvement things being on the lower level.

Just like Junior's pigsty of a room, there's method to the madness and only he understands it. If you decide your product GPS is on par just fine, thankyouverymuch during your first visit, it's guaranteed you will be asking for assistance during each subsequent perusal. So before you grab the whip and your pith helmet, just buck up and inquire like every other customer who walks through the door. Oh, and wear a dust mask - filthy garages are filthy! There's a 1/4 inch layer of sawdust and other assorted particulate on a bag of grass seed, but I've figured out why: every contractor, paint professional and plumbing enthusiast swings through during its opening hours. And if the pros are making this their purveyor of choice, so should you. Bonus tip: need chems to keep you motor running? I found carb and choke cleaner, fuel additives, motor oil, coolant, radiator sealant and other engine maintenance liquids on hand, just in case the jalopy is bringing you down. The day-long class opened my eyes to many procedures in cabinetry, filling in my knowledge gaps and in some cases rewriting what I thought I knew about joinery and table saw use. No matter your skill level, I recommend checking out Rockler's class offerings. The W. Broad store is well-organized, clean, and has an expansive inventory of hand- and power-tools for every project, clamps (because "you can never have too many clamps"), literature, and a wide selection of wood, including some exotics. They frequently run specials and promotions. Big box retailers are fine for most items, but if you want to step it up I highly recommend this store.

I…read moremoved into a house about a mile away from Washington Square, over the hill, and realized pretty quickly that a) I need to own an extension ladder, b) my car would in no way be able to help me move it, c) I probably needed a couple big central air filters at the same time, and d) my wife knows that if she implies I can't do something I will definitely do it. It's a real nice day, and she gently suggests I ask about delivery, so I strike out on foot. Fifteen minutes later the fella at Connelly's is showing me right to everything, takes me downstairs to look over the gutter downspouts because that's coming due soon too, makes incredulous small talk about my plan to walk a mile home with twelve foot of extension ladder and ten square foot of air filter, and then gets super pumped when he realizes that he and some masking tape can make my life easier by turning the big air filters into a big fashionable tote for my other shoulder. He helps me out the door, and long story short I got everything home, didn't wipe out any bikes, avoided that one Bugatti, and only embarrassed myself when there was no-one around. Connelly is now my hardware store for life, and god-willing I'm never going to buy another extension ladder from them again.
