I called to inquire about taxi services and while comparing prices, the driver hung up on me, saying I was wasting his time and that he gains clients even after losing one. Never been disappointed with Mex Express. i usually use them to go to the airport or transport a family member to the airport, and they've been consistently on time, reliable, and reasonably priced. i dunno what's better than saving a few dollars while getting to the airport on time when you're in a hurry. In my most recent experience, i needed a car to take me from Bklyn to Harlem, and i dared to ask for a "nice" car as i was really beautifully dressed and meeting a friend to go to a wedding. Moments after the text arrived to let me know the car was outside, a cool-as-the-other-side-of-the-pillow, clean and crisp gray VW was outside and patiently waiting. The driver was a gentleman named Andre who was courteous and even willing to keep some cash in my pocket by advising me not to take a tunnel where i'd have to pay toll. It felt like i was being dropped off by an uncle, he was so nice. i honestly cannot opine on the other reviewers who have had bad experiences. i've taken Mex Express at least 5 times now and they've always been on point. read more

I took this taxi company to get from The JFK Aiport to Hinckley Place, Brooklyn. The taxi driver took around one hour and 3 minutes to arrive at The JFK Airport. The driver told me that he was going to take only 25 minutes to arrive at JFK Terminal One to pick us up. I was looking for the driver for a long time but I couldn't find him until 29 minutes later because he didn't know what part of the airport he was located. They never carry receipts to give to the taxi customers and we never got a receipt for this trip. This taxi company is very unprofessional and not punctual. read more

Great, I use this car service all the time. For quick drop offs, to the airport, etc. They're always on time and friendly.

Never use this place if you're in a hurry. Let's start with the dull dispatcher who's clearly unhappy with the choices he's made in life to land him a job at this place. He never greets with "Thank you for calling Mex-Ex". It's always just "Mex-Ex". You ask for a car, give your location and destination and he tells you 5-7mins. Now, your driver will either come 2 minutes after you hang up or 12mins after that. It's NEVER 5-7mins. If you're lucky, your car can even come in 22mins (note the sarcasm). When your car arrives, the driver sends a text message with the description of the vehicle, gives you a call to verify that he or she is downstairs, and you're on your way to your destination. The problem isn't so much the drivers because they're men and women trying to earn an honest living by driving all over the place at all hours of the day for however many hours of that day. My gripe is really just with customer service at dispatch. Pricing: pretty standard pricing. In some cases, even cheaper. I commute pretty far on a daily basis and throughout the inner city. What would typically cost me $60 per ride is chopped down by nearly half. read more

This is a combined review. Today, my sister went to LGA. Quote $35 for fare from Prospect Lefferts Garden. Car pulls up in front of my apt. building, and I immediately talk to driver to make sure there's no repeat of the BS that happened to her friend the day before by a different car service (see my review of BedStar for details). I said to him: "You're taking her to LaGuardia." Driver nods. "The fare is $35." Driver says" "Uh, no. It's $40." Me: NO! It's $35! That's what the dispatcher quoted on the phone and THAT'S WHAT SHE'S PAYING!! Driver: (sigh) OK. OK. I start quasi-yelling at him: "I went through this crap with another car service yesterday and I'm NOT doing this with YOU!!!" I hug my sis, she gets in the car and she pulls off. I see that there's a Mex Express sticker on the trunk, so I assuming everything's legit (although I still don't understand the drivers bickering about a price that's already set for them). About 10 minutes later I get a call from a guy yelling in Spanish (Me: Huh?!! I think it might be a wrong number). Guy on phone: This is Mex Express. You called for a car. Your car is THERE! Me: Uh, my sister is already IN THE CAR. The car came 10 minutes ago! What are you talking about? Guy on phone: Oh my God. Before I can ask him what the hell is going on, he hangs up. So basically I called my sister every 15 minutes to check that she is actually en route to LaGuardia, and not, God forbid, an abandoned industrial park. Once she was on the BQE going north, I felt a little at ease. But I wasn't truly relieved until she actually arrived at the gate. So separate from the actual car that was 10 minutes late picking her up, who was this driver that picked her up who WAS NOT ASSIGNED TO PICK HER UP?! I'm guessing that he heard the call and usurped the fare from another driver, thinking that he could get a little more than the flat rate. In an event, that entire hour from car arriving to sis arriving at gate gave my agita. What happened to: This is the fare to said airport. We pick you up from your house. We take you to airport. You pay us, including an nice tip if we deserve it. We leave. Has the recession made drivers that money-hungry? I used Mex Express earlier this year when I had to get a TV from the Sears on Beverley Rd. to my apt. Straight forward ride. Driver showed up when they said he would. Helped get TV in and out of car. Fare rate ($8). Polite. As it should be. So if it wasn't for this airport incident with my sister I would give Mex Express four stars, but to balance it out I gave it two. read more

I've used Mex Express a few times in the past, usually for rides to the airport. My most recent experience was fairly negative. The driver was great--he was on time, wasn't a crazy driver, and was very nice. A few minutes after we got dropped off, however, I realized that I left something in the car, and immediately called Mex Express. When the operator answered, I told him that I was just dropped off at LaGuardia, provided my information, and told him that I left something in the car and needed to retrieve it. He then put me on hold for 10 minutes, and then asked me the same information. I repeated the information, he put me on hold for another 5 minutes, and then informed me that it's too late, the driver already left. I explained to him that if he had not put me on hold for more than 15 minutes, we wouldn't have this issue, but he refused to listen to me, said that if I wanted my belongings I could either go to their office or pay $25 for the driver to return, and then hung up on me. It was a truly wretched way to begin a trip. Considering the number of other car services in the area, I will not work with them again. read more

Happy again, this time for a 4 am pickup. The driver was early, and I am an idiot for priceline bidding on flights that wind up being way too early. Pro tip: I was using them for a business trip this time and asked for a receipt, the driver said that they do not issue receipts. I paid in cash and everything was cool, but if your accounting office looks closely at expenses you should be aware of the receipt issue. read more

We're new to the neighborhood and needed a car to an 8:25am flight out of JFK. I looked up cabs in the area a week before and was dismayed to find that all the cabs this side of Brooklyn are apparently run by money hungry, fare stealing, clock lacking deliquents. Alas, I had to make a choice. As I had no previous trouble with Bushwick cab company for over 3 years, I picked a service that had about the same Yelp score and hoped for the best. Turns out, we got the *most* pleasant person they had. At 6am, he was all smiles and good mornings. He helped my husband put the bags in the trunk and made sure to ask us if we had our passports, IDs and boarding passes before we pulled off. He made small talk - just enough that we felt welcomed but not enough to make us want to jump out. Some cab drivers have the radio blaring or want to tell you about their night but he was conscious of the early hour and was extremely courteous. We got from the Newkirk Plaza area to the airport in about 35 minutes. In the time that we knew this lovely man, he honestly made our day. (Thank goodness because the Mears Shuttle in Orlando were absolutely miserable). Now I'm not saying everyone should expect glowing service like this but I say give them a chance. read more

Driver was competent, and nice. Prospect-Lefferts to LGA was $35. Mex seems to have improved a lot. The first times I used Mex were a few years ago, and it seemed kinda shoddy--dispatcher telling me the car would be there in 5 minutes, and it arrived in 30--and I even had the surreal experience of a driver who pulled over on Linden Blvd, without warning, to buy a sandwich. (when I realized what was going down, I yelled HEY! at him, and he looked baffled, like, Seriously, you don't want me to buy a sandwich?) Definitely they've left those days behind :-) read more

Mex Express car service came to our rescue when we were looking for transportation from the pediatrician's to home. This was 2 days immediately after a large snowstorm, and it was quite difficult to get anyone to come pick us up. Below were the price quotes we rec'd after multiple calls to different companies (almost 10 dialed): Uber quote: $35-42 Bay Express: $15, 30-40 minutes out 88 Car Service + 5 other Chinese car service companies: no cars available in this area Mex Car Express: $16, 5 minutes out The service was a tad rough, but they are reliable, and incredibly quick to respond. Updated: I have increased the score from 1 star to 3, because when I used them to pick me up on my arrival back to NYC, the driver was on time, and very friendly. I think it's just luck of the draw with these guys - and don't bother booking ahead. Just call them when you need them. I would use them again. I used Mex Express recently for a 5 am pickup. I called the evening before. When they hadn't showed up at 5:10 am, I called. The guy said he didn't have the reservation, and sent someone out. So - they don't bother to write down your reservations. Keep that in mind. The car wreaked of cigarette smoke. Now normally I would give them a 2 or 3 star rating, however, my wife is currently at La Guardia and called them right when she left the airplane, so that they would show on time. Instead they are now over 30 minutes late. It's 1:30 am, there is no traffic. I would not use this company again. I advise against using this company. However tonight I had a Spanish speaking driver which insisted on taking me off my route for at least 12 blocks, then overcharged me at my destination. Personally, I've used this cab service once a few weeks ago when was traveling from Brooklyn to Queens. It was a reasonable price of $35. The driver I had (I wish I remembered his name or car number) was new but was very kind and a good conversationalist for that nearly one hour ride. I gave him $50 and called it square. He is the only reason I am giving a rating of two stars. However, last night, I called the company to arrange a pick up for my girlfriend in the same area of Brooklyn and a drop off to me in Queens. I also wanted to verify if it was going to be around the same rate I was given last time. Dispatch said that it was $37 which was all right with me. I had plans to give $50 like last time because I understand the ride is fairly long even with good traffic. After I made the call to arrange the pick up and got the text message that the driver was at the location, I got on the phone with my girlfriend to let her know the description of the vehicle when she got downstairs. While still on the phone, I hear my girlfriend telling the driver the numbers as he's punching in the address to my place on a GPS. After it was complete, I hear him say "$50". As soon as I heard that, I told my girlfriend to put the driver on the phone with me. After I explained to him that dispatch told me that the fare was $37, he proceeded to tell me his gripes about dispatch, the base, and how unfair they were to drivers. The hour was getting late and I was in no mood to argue with the driver so I told him that $50 was fine but that was all he was going to get. I'm sorry, but I simply cannot afford to pay more than that. Another experience I'd like to add is not mine, but my girlfriend's and a mutual friend. They both live in the same area have used the same cab company to go from the area of Flatbush to the Fort Hamilton Army base. One time the fare was $12. Another time was $25. What's with the inconsistency? Was that also another similar situation like mine? Drivers: if you got a beef with the way the base calls the rates, then bring it to their attention instead of not honoring what rate dispatch originally said and calling out whatever you feel is justifiable. It just makes you look like a greedy douchebag. If there no progress for change after voicing your concerns, find employment with Uber, Lyft, or even a metered cab. Those prices are set and can't be disputed. Sad to say, I will not be using this company again nor will I ever recommend them. Even if it is a bit more expensive, I believe I will be returning to using the services of Uber or Lyft. The rates, at least there, are set to some sort of standard. read more

I never write reviews, like never. I just waited over an hr for a cab that never came. Sure an hr seems like a long time, but when u keep calling and they keep assuring you that the cab is 10 mins away, time just flies right by. After about the 4th time calling back, they then tell me the cab is 2 blocks away. 10 more mins pass and nothing. I call and cancel, where I am met with an apology and an excuse about being busy. Hmmm I guess they are too busy to send me a cab that is in the area, or check on the whereabouts of the cab that they've sent. Now as I am in an overpriced uber halfway home the cab driver finally calls me to say they are a block away. read more

I called them to ask if they accepted credit cards. I was told by dispatch that they accept some but there would be a surcharge. I said that was fine and asked if they accepted AMEX. Dispatch said yes and told me the cost to Penn Station would be $33. The car arrived a few minutes early (I was pleased by this) and the slog through morning rush hour traffic began. This was all fine. We pull up to Penn and I say "I'm charging this to my company AMEX card." The driver just laughs at me. "We've never accepted credit cards," he says.
