A beautiful day so we wanted to find a place that had a patio and we could have a decent meal, not too heavy, and a drink and people watch. The Mex checked all of the boxes. The ceviche was a little different in that it was formed in a Patty but was tasty. I chose the beef and probably should have known it would have some gristle but it still tasted good and was filling. They have a special of a takate beer and a shot of house tequila for $12. Hey, you know exactly what you're getting with that. Their house Margarita was a little light on the alcohol but had a good flavor. Service was Top notch. The main dining room was not that busy at the time we were there but they had a big party going on upstairs. The rooftop rested in the bar looks like it would be very popular all the time and was perfect for the large party they had going on. They have an elevator that goes to the top so it was easy for them to wheel up a dozen fancy margaritas. Restaurants did out and I would go back if I was in the area simply because it had the best patio. Many of the restaurants in the area or downstairs in the basement of a multi-floor unit. This one was unique and that the patio was street level and they do have a second story of a rooftop area. read more

So the issue is I don't listen to people. I was excited to see a fancy Mexican place open, mainly because I like both of those things. Though being down the road from an institution like Naco was...a choice. But basically everyone I talked to told me it was generic. Their decor looked generic. It's in Kendall, which produces homogeneity on an industrial scale. But it can't be that bad...right? And it isn't. Bad, that is. But it sure ain't good. I'm giving this three stars because the bartender was such a nice guy and was so pumped about the food you gotta admire the moxy. But the fact is it's exactly what you might expect. Mex Taqueria & Bar is literally located in Technology Square area of Cambridge, MA where I grew up. Nice to finally see this area of Cambridge growing and thriving with eateries, restaurants, and more. It's been a very long time coming! The ambience at MT&B was wonderful. We booked our reservation for Valentine's Day, and was very surprised to be seated within 10 mins especially on a very busy evening. We were seated on the 3rd floor where we got to enjoy the views of the city in an intimate setting. Our waiter (soooo sorry I forgot his name) was knowledgeable, friendly and very accommodating with the questions we had, recommendations, and he checked in on us at perfect times to ensure we were okay. The food was delicious! The Esquite Street Corn was amazing, the Al Pastor tacos were yummy... and I absolutely LOVED the Mex Pina Colada. I had ordered the watermelon strawberry margarita first but didn't like but my daughter rather enjoyed. Our waiter was very accommodating -- and I can say, I have never had a pina colada like this one before... and it was PINK! Hats off the the chef, the waitstaff and the bartender. I went here for the first time late on a Friday night with a group of 6 people. Since the place was busy, we had to wait a couple of minutes for an outside table. I was surprised to see that there was a similarly large group (more than 6) that was seated outside. I ordered the bowl with pollo asado. For the table, we ordered two guacamole dishes. The food came fairly quickly especially considering how many people were also seated in large groups outside. In the bowl that I had, the chicken was well cooked and was cut into small chunks. A couple of the friends I was with ordered the tacos, and while they enjoyed them, they mentioned that for what they were paying they felt that they expected more substance on the taco. Similarly, the guacamole was enjoyable, yet the chips were extremely crunchy to the point that they became difficult to chew at times. Loved the vibe, liked the food. Mex is definitely the new celebration spot that this neighborhood was missing. The 3 story space is stunning, and I was lucky enough to sit on the rooftop after making an outdoor reservation, which was a nice surprise. Heads up that the music up there is pretty loud and there were lots of big groups drinking, which I was all about but keep in mind that it might not make the best family meal. Overall, the food was pretty tasty, but it was a bit hit or miss. Same goes for the cocktails. Our favorites included the La Piña marg, Agave wings (which were brought to our table by accident, but they let us keep them for free which is always nice!), Baja tacos, and Al pastor tacos. The Watermelon basil marg, piña colada, street corn and queso were nothing special, but with this place being so new, I have a feeling their menu will just keep improving. Loving this addition to Kendall square. I've come here for a few happy hours and it's been great. The rooftop is so cute! We usually order margaritas and cocktails. All have been good but I will not say this is the best drink spot. It's convenient and has a nice ambiance so that is why it's worth checking out! Food wise we have ordered a lot of things and they are only alright. Maybe I'm spoiled but these tacos do not stand a chance against authentic mexican tacos. Anyways the elote is good, the nachos are meh, and the octopus tacos are great but $19 for 2. Highly recommend coming early to grab a table on the rooftop if you are meeting a group of people. I went to the Mex rooftop a few days ago and thought it was really cute! I made an outdoor reservation and then requested a roof table when I got there. I got a drink and some tacos. My strawberry cocktail was tasty but I found it a bit strange that it was served in a plastic cup. For tacos I tried the lobster/crab one and the Korean fried chicken one. I preferred the chicken one more. It was cool that they offered such unique tacos but I don't think the lobster/crab one tasted very good. The tequila selection here is very impressive so this would be a great place to go if you like tequila. You get to customize the type of tequila they add to your margaritas! I came with a group of 4 to have some drinks and snacks. We got the chips and guacamole ($12), charred street corn off the cob ($13), a pitcher of the hibiscus margarita ($56), and a good number of their churro shots ($7 each). I liked how we could choose which tequila to have in our margarita and have the options of salt, sugar, or Tajin on the rim of our cups. The margarita itself had a nice balance of sweet and tart flavors while the tequila shone through. The churro shots tasted like chocolate milk-- if you're a fan of sweet, creamy cocktails then this is a must try. While the alcohol was good, the food was quite underwhelming. The guacamole came with massive slices of scallions which added freshness and crunch to the guac but couldn't make up for how underseasoned the guac was. The portion size of guac was also super tiny for $12! The charred street corn was creamy but forgettable. It didn't taste very charred, which to me is the best part of getting elote. read more

The space is comfortable and has a relaxed, cool vibe - loving the neon lights fashioned into cute sayings. Starter was chips and salsa ($6). I actually visited Mexcito, the pop-up version of Mex, also located in Kendall Square. It was a big group of us (coworkers) grabbing food after kayaking on the Charles. The location is really convenient, nestled between a bunch of office buildings, with plenty of outdoor seating available. Overall, I was impressed with the quality of the food, especially for the price. I ordered the taco bowl with lamb. The lamb was especially delicious! My coworker really enjoyed her chicken tacos, but said the meat wasn't very evenly cooked. They also had a range of fun drink options, including horchata, which I will have to come back to try! My roommate recently went to the other location (Mex, also in Kendall) and spoke highly of it. I'm hoping to check in that location as well, as I'm pretty sure they have a rooftop. Brand new place in Tech Square! We tried two tacos, a ceviche, some wings, and a Churros Espresso Martini! The tacos were pretty small, especially for the price ($5-$10 per taco), but the flavors were really interesting. We got the Japanese Eggplant taco and the Octopus Chorizo taco, both of which were excellent! They also have more usual taco options like al pastor and carne asada, but I was definitely glad we tried the eggplant and the octopus! We had friendly service and the decor was fun. Off the bat upon entering, the atmosphere and vibe had an eclectic flair, potentially catering to a younger crowd. Throughout our dining experience, they had a soundtrack that ranged from 90s hip-hop and rock to more current J and K pop. We were seated on the second floor and were definitely hungry and thirsty. From the drinks, we were definitely impressed with their execution. I thoroughly enjoyed my Oaxacan old-fashioned (should've ordered another) and Shirtless Uncle and our friends savored their Jalisco and Watermelon Basil Margarita. The food, on the other hand, could've benefited more with what they set out to be. To start, the chips and guacamole had a miniscule corner bowl of guacamole in a basket of about three-quarters of chips. Even though the guacamole was pretty good, this ratio does not work well at all as there needs to be at least half the basket. We would have to say that the charred sweet corn off the cob was very delicious with its cheesiness and spiciness and was fairly balanced. Out of the two ceviche dishes of tuna and mixto, they each had their own identity - the tuna was delicate but was rounded out with the jalapeno, lime and avocado and the mixto had shrimp and white fish where the shrimp was nicely crisp. However, the overall flavor was most flat and we wished there was a bit more salt to draw out the innate essence, especially the shrimp. We ordered a few different tacos and none of them stood out but were fairly standard. When I saw the Birria tacos, I was ready to dip the tacos in the consommé but when the plate came, there was no consommé but only a thick sauce over the tacos. Unfortunately, the beef was on the drier side and the sauce saltier so the dish overall didn't work. Would have to say that our waiter was very accommodating when our dishes maxed out the dining area on our tables and he pulled up an empty table to allow us more space. Really think there's an imbalance in the food and the drinks and if the execution of flavor of the food can rise to the level of the drinks, the restaurant will definitely see the benefits. read more

Ok, if you read my reviews I really try to be a nice & reasonable person but this was truly one of the worst restaurant meals I've had in recent memory. Like others have said the drinks are watered down. I had a limeade and it tasted like sugar water with a squeeze of lime. The frozen strawberry margarita special was pretty good, probably because it's harder to water down a frozen drink. The chips are kind of unique in that they are very thick and seem to have some whole grains in them. The guacamole was not the best--the pieces of avocado were a bit large and it was underseasoned for my taste. I actually liked the salsa but it is more of a watery, tomato-forward salsa. The veggie burrito ($19) was a huge portion but also very low on flavor. I thought the combination of veggies was a bit weird. I don't think that all Mexican food needs to be 100% authentic but sweet potato and romanesco in my burrito just felt a bit odd. The service was completely abominable. The restaurant was fully empty on a Saturday afternoon--probably should've been our first warning--and our server barely interacted with us. We were waiting for 15-20 minutes just to put in our entree order after ordering appetizers. We often went without water or drink refills. Again the restaurant was empty so all the staff were just standing around talking to each other 10 feet from our table. It was a really weird and awkward experience. I know this restaurant opened pretty recently (December 2021), but not recently enough to excuse the service being such a mess. It was also really obviously someone's birthday and they made zero effort to acknowledge that. The prices are on par for Cambridge / Boston but really not worth it for what you get. It's $12-17 for two tiny tacos and zero sides. It's $6 for a small basket of chips and salsa -- no refills. Cocktails are around $13-14. Again, this is the going rate these days, but if I'm going to spend easily $50 per person for a meal I would love some better service and better flavors. I definitely would not recommend this place. I don't think that the foray into Mexican was a good move for the owners of Sulmona & Amelia's. I'd much prefer to go to one of their other restaurants. read more

Came here on Friday with my sister to celebrate our birthdays (wasn't acknowledged at all) but the restaurant was really nice. I made reservations and requested to sit outside as it was nice outside, and it was accommodated with no problem. Keep in mind the little birds that will be eating with you lol We ordered the hibiscus drink to start & it was strong, not too refreshing as described. The carne Asada tacos were good but did need a little extra toppings, so I opted for sour cream and more cheese and added salsa as well. The queso dip was very bland. Did not taste like anything but barely melted cheese. It's not really queso dip, but more like just melted shredded cheese in a skillet. I was not able to taste the jalapeños. The wings were amazing, and the sauce they provide on the sauce is an added bonus. (Ended up ordering more wings to go) The restaurant itself it very hip & the older woman who was the hostess was very sweet. We weren't given napkins, plates not silverware but we had our food. The waitress seemed more concerned with flirting with the bus boy and bartender than getting my drink order correct, or coming to check on us. As a person with a food allergy (celiac) this was one of the best dining out experiences I have had. I called ahead to ask about gluten free and cross contamination in fryers and they ensured me that the restaurant was basically all GF, besides flour tortillas which have a separate area! We told them when we would arrive (asked about needing a reservation & they said no). The waitress knew I was gluten free when we were sat, and showed us all the GF desserts and other items on the menu! We got chips and queso and I had the carne asado tacos which were flavorful and perfectly tender. The corn tortillas are also organic and locally sourced (stated on the menu). The queso dip was SO good and we subbed the jalepenos for pico which added so much more flavor! For dessert, they brought over the GF churros which were some of the BEST GF churros I've ever had. The size of them ALONE had me sold and the cinnamon sugar mixture with the dulce de leche and chocolate sauce was the perfect addition! I've passed by this place ever since mid covid but had never had a chance to go. It was always super busy but when I finally did get to, so happy I did! We got the queso to start which came hot and delicious! We ran out of chips quickly but our host gave us more as soon as she saw we ran out. These folks had the audacity to charge me 19 dollars a piece for Bulleit Rye Manhattans (not a menu offering). This is completely unreasonable, even for Greater Boston Area. This was not an error. I discussed this with them and they stood by this price point. If you are going to order something other than menu offerings, I highly recommend that you confirm pricing before pulling the trigger. Else, you run the risk of receiving an unpleasant surprise. With that said, our bartender was nice, polite and attentive.
