When traveling, Peg and I like to take the back roads; such was the case when we returned from a recent trip to Frisco. Before we left the hotel, I did a Yelp search and came across Miguel's. It interested me in that it had almost as many one-star reviews as fives. Never let it be said that we're not adventurous, so off we went. Before we went to the restaurant, we stopped for gas. We asked some locals what they thought and got basically the same answers as the reviews. We pulled up to find a teepee in the front of the property; no surprise, given the name of the town. Entering the restaurant was almost like entering an art museum--large and small woodcarvings abounded as well as photos, framed art and murals by Polly Reed, a local artist. I had noted in some reviews that the waitresses were somewhat less than friendly but that wasn't the case with us. Drinks, chips and salsa soon appeared and our order was taken: "Ladies' Special" for Peg and carne guisada for me. We munched on the chips and salsa and both of us agreed that we're had better. Evidently no effort was made to heat the chips and the salsa wasn't long on flavor; not horrible, just blah. During the abnormally long time we spent waiting for our food, we walked around taking a photo here and there. We returned to our seats and about twenty minutes later, the food appeared (total wait time of a little over thirty minutes). Both plates were lukewarm but seeing as our waitress had disappeared, we decided to eat as we were both famished. Neither of us was impressed with the food. Again, we both had certainly had worse but after a long drive, neither plate was satisfying. A bit of the salsa helped but unfortunately, not much. At least our bellies were full and there were no adverse reactions later in the day. So, I'll rate Miguel's in the middle with three stars. I have to say, after seeing a couple of burgers come out, we just may be temped to stop and try them. Time will tell. read more

Decent little Mexican place. Loved that we all got our own little salsa bowls instead of having to share one and then beg for more. Especially given that service was slow and inattentive. The chips were cold and bland and the fajitas were nothing special but filling. We split the fajitas for one and were stuffed. Friends really liked the inexpensive lunch combos. So, first off, reading these other reviews I may have ordered the wrong thing as many reviews say their burgers are good. However I was in the mood for tex mex. Decided I should stop somewhere on my long drive back home and I ended up here. Salsa tasted like it came out of a jar but queso was pretty good. Monterrey plate had a taco which was just a normal taco and a burrito which was just a burrito. Server asked me if I wanted onions on my enchilada, and I said yes but man this thing was loaded with onions every bite way over the top. Rice was just rice and beans weren't my favorite. However, ground beef in all 3 had great flavor and the enchilada sauce was delicious. Not a bad spot to have lunch at. Good service as well! read more

We had a late lunch here this weekend and the food was not all that great . They brought out my taco with some cheese dip on the plate and when I went to scoop some up on a chip there were little pieces of chips in the dip. I told the waitress and she stood there for a second and said oh they put crumbled up pieces of chips In The cheese dip . Hmmm I have had their cheese dip lots of times and never any chips in it . Always delicious. The steak fingers are the best anywhere. Fajitas are delicious. Cobb salad the best. We love their food. They have struggles like many other places during these last few years but they always have good service and great food. Our go-to restaurant. The atmosphere has always been a constant. Well, we haven't been here for 4 years until today. What I first described as 'kitschy' I must now say is just tacky. NOTHING has changed here. Just more clutter and paint chips off the walls. Food the same. Amber puddles of grease. Wait staff LOUD and intrusive. Next time we'll try The Harvest which is rated 5 stars by many people. This place is well past it's prime with no interest in improvement. Wish Anglo wait staff would STOP asking if everything was alright. It was NOT. Absolutely the WORST "Mexican Food" we have ever had!!! First I told the "manager " the ladies restroom was out of soap...she said nope it has soap the dispenser just doesn't work right. I wasn't impressed! Being on the safe side we ordered the fajitas for two...it was the same serving as for one. The meat and onions were literally burnt to a crisp and we were unable to chew half of it. The charro beans tasted exactly like canned Ranch Style Beans! We had to ask for plates to eat off of and that appeared to be an inconvenience and we were charged for plates to eat on...We will NEVER eat there again! Cute place, nice servers, but did not enjoy the food. My husband and I stopped while passing though, and I wish we'd have gone to the Sonic instead. The food is very "American" Mexican, simple flavors, and just bland. I tried the chili relleno, which had what seemed like a Panco breading :( the tamale was pretty much all masa, but the taco meat had a decent flavor. We had walked to the restaurant from are new home. Miguels felt like everyone knew each other. The staff was extremely polite and made us feel welcome. They had open seating. It is a casual Mexican restaurant with a friendly small town feel. We had ordered are food and were talking amongst ourselves when outer customers greeted us to their town. Having residents being so nice, really made are first encounters with the town feel genuinely comfortable and excited to be in a new environment. The food came fairly quick. Everything we had from street tacos to burritos was hand made right there and so delicious. They gave us limes to put on the street tocos. I have never had that offered to me before. It was so delicious and know one of my must haves for street tacos. My experience hear was ideal. I was able to feed all six of us with prices under 7$ per person. You can see your food being cooked, it was freash and delicious. The atmosphere was casual not fancy, great for lunch and having a taste for street tacos. The staff was polite and funny. They had some jokes with local residents but I didn't feel like a outsider. Meals were properly priced and done in a timely manner. Overall I would definitely give this a 4 out of 5. Great food good service. Street tacos should be a 5 for sure. We will definitely be making more lunches at Miguels. Hopefully I will be able to give more reviews and move that 4 to a 5. So if you are driving threw hill country and are looking for delicious street tacos Miguels is perfect. You want cheese on that? We heard this place was good, but I knew we were making a mistake when we saw the wall of crosses and Indians in a Mexican restaurant. There's even a giant tepee outside. I had three chicken enchiladas with the regular sauce and a chili relleno. I knew something was going to go wrong here when the waitress said, "You mean a chili ruh-lay-no?" The chicken enchilada was about a half pound of cheese mushed into a log (this stuff wasn't even melted!) topped with two large lumps of "fajita" chicken, rolled in a corn tortilla, tomato sauce, and topped with another half pound of cheese. The chili ruh-lay-no, was a big NO. There was a good pepper in there, and I think it had some beef inside it, but it was all rolled in a flour tortilla, deep fried, and then covered with a good 4oz of cheese sauce. If you love cheese, go here! If you love Mexican food, stay away! My wife had the cheese enchiladas in the sour cream sauce. I don't want to scare you with the amount of cheese she got, so you might just want to try this place to see it for yourself. On the plus side, service was great, the tea was good, and you can smoke. As other's have stated, its hit or miss here. You either get a really good meal or you get a meal that will fill you up but make you not want to come back for a long time. We tend to go about twice a year. 3 years ago we had several good experiences right in a row, but the past couple years, something has changed and the experiences with the food make you drive past more often than not. Went to Miguel's tonight with my husband and a friend. We ordered and my husband and his friend got the same thing a burrito with chili and cheese that came with a taco I had gotten a plate that had an enchilada a taco with extra rice no beans. My husband wanted an extra taco with his order. the kid came back and asked oh you want an extra burrito my husband goes no I want an extra taco with it. The kid acted like he didn't know what we were talking about. when we got our order the meat look like it was sitting out for a good day or two. The rice was clearly not cooked and everybody had got an extra rice no beans.the kid came back and said oh here's your taco and headed my husband a tortilla with nothing in it. Both my husband and his friend didn't get any tacos with there orders. We didn't eat anything just the chips and dip. we told him that they got the order wrong and the kid look at us like we were stupid and we told him that if they weren't going to fix it that we were leaving the kid goes okay and he walks to do another table. We leave to go eat somewhere else and then cops show up saying that we didn't pay our bill in that we still even though we didn't eat anything we just drink our drinks and chips we said we would pay for the stuff that we ate and he said no that basically when you order something you have a contract with that business. So my husband goes to pay because it was either pay for our whole bill that we didn't even eat or go to jail.then the cop and I guess the manager who wasn't even there when we oredered start laughing thing look what we made them do. Miguels is a great place to stop and get some grub if you're driving through town! It's a small cozy place with a small-town feel to it. The food (sour cream enchiladas, queso, and kids chicken strips) were excellent and satisfied us way more than stopping for fast food would. Lunch came out quickly and the waitress was extremely nice and accommodating. If I'm ever running through Comanche and need to eat, I'll absolutely stop in again. read more

I went to miguels mexican restaurant yesterday for a nice meal that my family and I have had so many times before. My husband and I sat down and waited for the waitress. In the meantime our chips and salsa were served. When I ordered my cheese dip and tortillas the waitress informed me that I can't have chips and salsa unless I order a meal. Incredible food! It's not supposed to be authentic Mexican food...it's Tex-Mex which I like more than bland authentic Mexican food...and I couldn't care less what décor is on the walls. The atmosphere was clean and pleasant enough, the service was great, and the food was the best I've had in quite a while. We dine out in restaurants all over Texas and this may be my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant of them all. The food was so flavorful and delicious. Chips and salsa---best I've ever had. Guacamole--best I've ever had. Tamale--best I've ever had. Everything else from the cheese enchilada, beans rice, chili relennos, sour cream enchiladas, sopapillas...even the tea...was outstanding.
