Unfortunately, despite excellent and quick service, this may be the worst Mexican food I've ever had. To start, I must say the restaurant is nicely decorated, clean and spacious. The staff are very friendly and orders and requests are handled quickly. Nothing slow about this location! The food, however, is pretty terrible. We ordered a Guadalajara Special, Fajitas Texanas (no onion) and the kids chicken tenders and fries. Nothing was seasoned, and I mean nothing. No salt (even the fries!), no spice, no flavor. The sauce on the Guadalajara Special was pretty offensive and the piles of bland, plain chicken breast and plain, bland ground beef were glaringly absent of any taste of Mexican cuisine. The tamale was serviceable once you dug it out from under everything else, but the steak taquito might have been the only thing on the plate we enjoyed. The fajitas were pretty sparse and barely constituted a good serving - more like lunch size than dinner. Rice and beans were both similarly flavorless and the rice was terribly dry. The chips, tortillas and taquito shells all tasted like deep fried paper - again, no flavor. The ONLY thing on the table with a noticeable taste to it was the complimentary salsa, and then it was actually too spicy! I've been to other Mexico Restaurant locations and have enjoyed the food. I don't know what's going on in the kitchen in Mechanicsville, but we will never be back and I cannot recommend this location to anyone with taste buds. read more

The place quite nice sis sulky after an outside renovation. The food was good but not really my taste. My personal favorite is the enchiladas there but I decided to try something else. The drinks are quite good. Can be a bit loud when it's full though so conversing can be a bit tough. The servers are fine. To me the salsa was too spicy, I needed sour cream and water LOL I got Monterry burrito and it was mostly filled with rice. Still tasted good but expensive... I have eaten at Mexico's for decades. Today was my first bad experience. The salsa tasted burnt, and they tried to cover it by making it spicy. I asked for milder salsa and they brought a small bowl of what looked like grease skimmed off the top. The manager came over defending their salsa, saying that the majority of their customers like the salsa spicy. She said nothing about the burnt taste. I didn't even argue. I just said okay. The food comes out real fast and they have a huge menu! I got the lime margarita- jumbo size and it was delicious. For my entree I got the combination dinner with enchilada, burrito and Chile Reno. First. Waited 15 min to even be acknowledged. And it was not that busy. Ordered two Cadillac Margs. The last time I would have believed that was a Cad Margarita was the early 90s when I was a dumb college girl. And when I tell you that you forgot the Grand Marnier... dont argue. I could drink a margarita and sneeze more GM than you put in. Then you got mine and my husband's burritos backwards, I had regular on my chicken. he had cheese only on his beef. They have a whole Vegan section, however when I ordered from it, the food arrived covered and cheese and sour cream-- in edible for me. After a long day of traveling we decided to go for dinner. This restaurant was not far from the hotel where we were staying. We were seated promptly. Our waiter was attentive. He came back to ask us for more drinks and if we needed anything. Our dinners were delicious. I had the shrimp and crab burrito. It came with a side of squash and potatoes. All had great flavor. Ive tried many Mexican restaurants but this one will always be one of my favorites. The food is great, the service is top notch.

Delicious. Fabulous salsa. Coming from CA it was fabulous. Lunch burritos were perfect portions and the cheese sauce it great.

Went there on a Friday night for dinner, only had to wait a few minutes before a table for two was available. In the dining area you can tell they recently updated all of their booths, it looks really nice in there. The service was quick and frequently came back to check on us. Chips and salsa were very good, our second basket of chips was even warm. I got a margarita and vegetarian combo which I really enjoyed both. The only complaint I could give is that the noise level is a little loud just with so many people talking in there, but that's about it. For vegetarians they have plenty of options throughout the menu and a special vegetarian section. I'm pretty sure the owners were even there working with customers, based on what I could tell from a posted newspaper article about the origin of the local restaurant chain, pretty cool! read more

This restaurant is a great place to get some hearty food with a quick turnaround time. We tried a couple different dishes and each had a large portion with a lot of variety in the offerings within. We're talking meat, veggies, rice, beans, tortillas-- the works! It felt like our dishes were delivered as we finished ordering them. They were clearly cooked right away and the server brought them out piping hot and ready to be enjoyed. I will say that the beverages were pretty generic "Mexican restaurant" style-- It didn't seem like I was going to find a sour mix made with actual fruit juice, but that's not what I was really anticipating anyway, so it's all good! I have been a patron of Mexico since I moved to Mechanicsville in 1997. I remember their first location was in the Ukrops and Kohls shopping center. Then they moved to their present location. I've been a regular customer now for 27 years. I go there often, alone or with friends or family and I frequently get takeout since my health has declined. So 27 years of being a loyal customer, easily recognized by the checkout staff, and enjoying their delicious food. Then Saturday my luck changed. For the first time EVER, I received an unsatisfactory meal to go. It was stone cold and the chimichanga looked like it had been sitting out for a while. Lettuce wilted I discovered this when I opened the meal when I got home. I immediately called the restaurant to tell them about my order and I was told they would replace it. So I drove back to the restaurant and the manager, who I am positive knows me from my frequent visits, was waiting for me. He treated me like I was dirt, trying to get over or something. I reminded him that I was a loyal customer but his attitude and behavior were insulting. I did get a new meal but it's the last one I'll ever eat from this place. read more

Wait person was like a zombie; when I asked for a drink menu, instead he responded, "well, what kind of drink do you want?" When asked what kind of Mezcal they had, he told me he'd never heard of it (WHAT?!?!) and refused to consult with the bartender. Salsa was in a dirty cup as was white sauce when asked for. She ate some white sauce, queso, and taquitos that no one else ate. We called to tell them so they could possibly prevent others from getting sick and they told us that it takes 6 hours to get sick and blew us off. For some reason It's hard to find a decent Mexican restaurant around the DMV. This place is amazing. Everything is so flavorful. The rice is always on point, the queso is the bomb, the beans are amazing and the customer service was the best ! The staff is so attentive. Especially Rafael and Jesus! They were so personable and kind. Authentic Mexican food is simple, quick and cheap. This place is all those things and I highly recommend it to anything who appreciates a good enchilada. There was an issue with my online order (thanks to Yelp!) and Grubhub ended up canceling the order to resolve the issue. I drove over to the restaurant to pay for and pickup the order because the situation had nothing to do with Mexico and I didn't want to leave them hanging. My order was prepared and ready for pickup - they had no idea it had even been cancelled. I brought it to the manager's attention and he tried to charge me the full amount - which included delivery fees. He got an attitude when I said I wasn't paying for delivery since I picked it up!! He re-rang the order but acted like it was killing him. I spent $70 on food and he didn't even say thank you!! This is why people don't bother to do the right thing anymore!
