We're out in Virginia for a overnight stop. We decided to walk over for a quick meal after driving all day. Tres Machos got great reviews so we decided to try it. The restaurant is nice enough and clean. Our waiter was great; very attentive and brought out our food fast. First we ordered table side guacamole. They actually don't make it table side and was very bland. My birria tacos were good, not the best I ever had, but still good. The rice was nice and moist but the refried beans were a disappointment. They were tasteless, watery and orange???? IDK Hubby got a steak quesadilla and he loved it! The steak had lots of flavor. He was very happy. Our friends got the steak and chicken fajitas dish and the Tres Machos plate. The fajitas were amazing with flavor and enjoyed very much but the Tres Machos plate was a disappointment. We were in town for the Special Olympics and stopped at Tres Macho Taco what a great choice. Tres Machos is a small and nearly hidden gem in the Innsbrook area. Located next to Hondos Steakhouse, Tres Machos is definitely trying to earn their place and your appetite as well. There are so many options here to choose from. Many Tex-Mex options as well as traditional faves that I don't often see offered at other local Mexican restaurants. Their staff is friendly and courteous, and certainly try to make the dining experience a good one. Chips and salsa are well made and tasty. We've tried several options to date and all were good. An exceptional dish is their "Birria Pizza." If you've ever had Birria tacos (braised short rib), then you'll definitely love this. Simply exquisite and rich! My only disappointment was ordering a couple of extra flour tortillas with my meal. I don't recall restaurants charging a fee, and I wasn't told their would be one when I requested them, but the tortillas (3) were nearly $4 extra! This just seems a bit excessive to me. When I inquired, I was told that because I ordered enchiladas, the tortillas were extra. Yes, but $4??!! In quality Mexican restaurant it is served with warm tortillas Now about tortillas, we ordered traditional street style shrimp taco with corn tortillas, cilantro and onion. The tortillas that came was flour. I asked about getting corn and was told this is what they get from their supplier supplier I asked to see the cook, who is Mexican and in Spanish I asked him if this was the quality of food he eats at home and he so it was better. Food is always amazing, fresh, hot, and tastes great! Service has always been great as well aside from the occasional miscommunication. For example boyfriend ordered the papa loco with el pastor, but instead received just el pastor tacos instead. But it wasn't a big deal to us and just ate it anyways. We could have brought it up to the server but we knew the food would be thrown away and when we got the bill it was rang in as the item brought. So, technically on us for not bringing to the waitresses attention. The restaurant is always very clean and neat. I have never seen the floor dirty which is a big deal when eating out! New restaurant in Innsbrook in the old Padows spot. I'd randomly come across the IG page and also saw signs down along Broad St so decided to pop in over the weekend and check it out. Super humble and great service by the owner and staff. They were fast and efficient and eager to get the word out about their new spot. I decided to try a chimichanga (you know a fave and tried and true) for my first visit. There were two chimichanga and they came with rice and beans (although not listed on the menu). They were huge and filling. Can't say I usually need a box for this meal, but did. They had been open just less than a week on my visit, so looking forward to seeing them get established and to come back and try more things on the menu. I asked for white sauce but they said they didn't have it 'yet' so definitely need to try that for a fair assessment. read more

My wife had the birria tacos, stuffed with meat and very hot. Great sauce with them and rice. I had three Al Pastor tacos served with beans. Everything was terrific. Don't sleep on this little Mexican Restaurant Tres Machos Glen Allen A coworker or not decide to go there for late lunch yesterday there's only one other table seated there. We like to sit at the bar so we sat at the bar. Let me start off by saying how clean this place and how uncluttered it is. It's a higher class of Mexican Decor...they are right beside Hondo's and carry the same caliber of atmosphere. The chips and salsa were very good. The salsa feels like it's definitely freshly made. my friend went with her regular go to chicken chimichanga's fried and she said they were very good. I got the California tacos. It was after lunch so there were three and I had the option of chicken or steak. I got two chicken one steak they were both very good with fresh pico.. no we didn't know what to order when it came to the margarita so we just said we wanted to jumbo Texas margarita well my goodness jumbo it was and boy did it carry some Texas punchif you know what I mean! They also have happy hour from 3 to 7 PM and they offer some happy hour food specials. The owner was there and we talked to him and he actually gave us two Tahin mango shots ... I was in town for a couple of hours and wasn't so sure where to go and am I glad I chose the right place. Tres Machos reminds me of the good old days when I used to travel to Mexico. I ordered the Lunch Special Mexicano with steak it had a lot of flavor, rice was fluffy and soft, beans were nice and moistened. The best part about this place is that you get a free refill on the Horchata and that is not common especially in Virginia! This spot located in the former Padow's space on Cox Rd, Insbrook. We decided to give them a try on Taco Tuesday where they advertise $1 tacos (hard or soft shell, chicken or beef) sounds like a good deal, right? We were greeted promptly by a two super nice staff members at 7p (one of presume was an owner or manager) but to our shock they were the only two working the entire restaurant. They weren't super busy but a nice crowd on a Tuesday. These two played waiter, runners and bartender! We were sat and were served chips and salsa (no ranchero sauce sad) and some time later we were given water. As we sat and chatted we saw both servers going to assist previously seated patrons. In the lapse of time we were offered and brought more chips and salsa. About 15 mins or so we were asked if we were ready to place an order (at that time we were advised that a drink (any sort) purchase was required for the special, cool no problem). Mimi ordered Midnight margarita and I ordered the Fresa Colada (strawberry pina colada). We both ordered 2 hard shell beef tacos and 1 soft shell chicken with no lettuce. Just to set the pace I received my drink which was refreshing but I didn't taste or feel any alcohol (2.9/5-$10) at 7:26p. Mimi's drink was perfectly strong as any good margarita should be (5/5, $8). After talking while waiting we saw previous patrons receiving their orders so we assumed they go out by order not by type (again we only had tacos). At 7:44p we received our order and for the amount of time one would assume that the food would be hot, warm at best. Upside is the chicken was tender and seasoned the very little we received (4/5) but the beef was greasy yet seasoned again small portion of protein (2.9/5). Now we've had $1-$2 from many spots throughout RVA and were given a regular taco tho they were discounted. Sigh, it was only a dollar. We had to wait a bit longer to get our ticket and to pay. Drink menu is listed without prices and there is a cash discount which is shown on the ticket when you're ready to pay. I would say go and try for yourself as they offer an array of food options but bring your patience. This restaurant had one of the highest ratings in town so we tried it. The beer and specialty drinks are reasonably priced. Our experience with our server was a little below average. The atmosphere could be better...some signs of water leaks in the ceiling. My wife ordered a taco salad and the shell tasted terrible and they replaced it. We think it was expired or improperly stored. The replacement one was ok. Three extra flour tortillas for my fajitas cost 3.50...that seemed excessive.
