I really enjoyed the food here, friendly service and Mexican-style atmosphere. The meal began with some tasty bread. I had the Pollo Azteca. With the a slightly-marinated, thin chicken breast in a very tasty cheesy sauce. To add to the flavor are onions, peppers, shrimp, chorizo ingredients. When I include the sliced avocados on top, lettuce and pico de gallo, the whole dish is very flavorful and enjoyable. Yay! I then indulged in some gelato, which is home-made. The blueberry vinegar flavor was an excellent combination of sweet, tart and tangy tastes. Very good! read more

Rico's is a great spot for Mexican food in the mechanicsville area! They have a pretty expansive menu, so you will find something for everyone. Service has always been great and food comes out pretty quickly, even when they're busy. Portion sizes are pretty large, and most of the time, my boyfriend and I wind up sharing a meal and enjoying the chips and salsa and cheese dip! The restaurant itself is not super big, but can still accommodate a decent crowd and they have larger tables to seat large groups as well. read more

Place was popping on a Friday night. Covid guidelines are being followed very nicely here with spread out tables and hand sanitizer stations. Very friendly staff and greeted immediately. Be careful when you order takeout from Rico's in Mechanicsville. And be sure to tell them you want an itemized receipt. I placed an order by phone and not only did I not get everything I ordered they charged me what I didn't get and charged for extras w/o informing me. There's a charge for takeout tacked on plus some other charges. Then the manager proceeds to tell me something is wrong with my phone because their menu doesn't come up correctly but is just photos. He said he couldn't print out an itemized receipt. So buyer beware. When you order done-in, make sure you get what you ordered. read more

Covid review- Did somebody say Taco Tuesday??!! Rico's does the entire Mechanicsville community justice every week with its dollar Tuesday deal and let me tell you I am "Here for It!!"!! So here's the deal you can order either chicken or beef, hard or soft tacos and each one is just a dollar!! The staff is super friendly and is doing a great job at following Covid guidelines! I and my family stopped in for a late dinner. I ordered chimichangas, rice & refried beans. It took a long time to receive the food, and they brought chicken instead of beef. No apology was offered. If you went with the first glance at the place, knowing its a small chain and knowing they are using Value Pack coupons to drum up business, you would be in for a big surprise. The food quality was very good to excellent, far and away better from what I expected. Service was also very attentive without being overbearing. And unlike many restaurants we lingered for some time and we did not received the "bums rush" to give up the table and leave. I was going off of the reviews and decided to give this place a try. Bad mistake, the greeting wasn't welcoming. My waitress was very nice though. I ordered the nacho supreme with a lime margarita. My coworkers and I just ingested the worst taco salads. Way too heavy on the unseasoned refried beans and a measly portion of shredded chicken. When we called to complain, they repeatedly attempted to blame Door Dash. We emphasized that the delivery was fine it was the FOOD that was ridiculous. We did not ask for money back but we were willing to drive to the restaurant to pick up freshly made salads. They were willing to remake the salads but didn't want to leave out the beans. So now we are arguing over why they can't just leave out the beans. It made no sense. They had a chance to make this right and just refused. read more

I took him up on that as I love good home cooked Carnitas.. This dish blew me away! Huge amount (hubs gets some for lunch tomorrow) perfectly cooked. Great service, gorgeous atmosphere. The only "wish" is they would offer whole beans like most good Mexican places are doing. And why ala carte everything?--especially extra fresh cilanto or extra tortilla wraps?
