No more Bad Bean???? I was VERY concerned that our OBX staple of Bad Bean may be a thing of the past! But the reality was it seemed Bad Bean was only going through the motions that last couple years... Mexikind gets me! Loved the selection and quality! Food choices seem to have more variety. The food here is really good. Spicy. Margaritas were excellent. They made my daughter a virgin strawberry one which they didn't have to do. The medium salsa was really good too. Don't waste your time (& money) here. Food is way below average and seems like the staff doesn't care. We ordered several burritos with customizations. They didn't mark so we had to figure out ourselves. Sides like (jalapeños and salsa, which are readymade) came at the end after we were done with most of our food. During these times we all want to do our part for the community and shop local, but the business has to do their part as well. I realize that Mexikind Taqueria may not be used to taking their orders by phone, but that is no excuse for rudeness, ever. Our request was for sour cream on the side because of a food allergy. His response was it can be "in or out" which is a little confusing but we moved on. The third part of our order involved another request for sour cream on the side and he repeated the prior statement as if we could read his mind, slowly like we were dumb "in or out"! If we didn't get it the first time with no explanation we aren't going to understand the second time with no explanation, and being condescending says something about Mexikind Taqueria. I would have let that slip, but the food deserves mention too. Admittedly the burrito was hearty (albeit no sour cream and this one was supposed to have it) but contained so little chicken and mole as to be disappointing. I understand how much chicken and mole is supposed to be in a burrito, enough to flavor the whole thing but not to much, but mine had about 2 tablespoons of chicken and about 1 dash of mole, all in one end, the rest was rice. Not exaggerating. These are odd times, and many of us are doing our part to support our local small businesses, but half hearted efforts do us both a disservice. read more

This place was a nice find on our trip to Corolla. It's a place where you order at the counter and they bring the food to you. I got a Mahi Mahi burrito, which was tasty and humongous. 3 people in my party got the barbecue quesadilla, and they all went on and on about how amazing it was. I liked my burrito but wished I had gotten the quesadilla! Be aware that their medium salsa is quite spicy. They have kind of a disclaimer about how hot the "hot" salsa is at the register, and I can only imagine. We got guacamole and chips, and it was really great. Fresh Mahi tacos along with a real fresh squeezed lime margarita (or mango, or strawberry pineapple) are my faves but everyone in the group enjoyed their meal whether it was a taco, burrito, or quesadilla. Are they fast? Not particularly but hey, we're on vacay, it's like island time. The first order came out and we completely ate and sat another 10 minutes with no food for the second half of our party. First night in town, and everything is flooded and packed by disgruntled people who've been sitting in traffic for hours. Mexican it is! Mexikind has a Chipotle-esque vibe to it, but better. You wait in a line (that grew progressively longer as we sat and ate), you order, they make it sort of while you watch, sometimes behind the scenes in the kitchen (depending on what you're getting), and then you pay and they bring it to your table. As far as I could see, as many people take it to go as get it to stay. What did we try? The chipotle BBQ and slow roasted pork quesadilla. Hubs loved it! The girls had peanut butter tortillas (kind of like a pressed burrito with on inside) which they, too loved. I had a vegetarian burrito with no peppers (I'm not a fan) no cheese and no sour. It was good. I wished there were more veggie options to mix in--some mushrooms or broccoli or sautéed onions. But it was still good. We shared the Kind salad, which had romaine lettuce, jicama, picked onions and tortilla strips on top. It was supposed to have peppers and cheese, but we skipped those. Great salad and the Chipotle lime dressing is awesome--just a hint of sweetness to it. We also had the queso and guac (both delicious) and chips (homemade), plus a couple margaritas (better than passable)! The only miss was the jicama slaw. It came with hubs' quesadilla but I didn't know and ordered a side as well. I love jicama, but this was totally underseasoned. I wanted a touch of sweet and a hint of spice, or at least some salt. My fault for ordering a whole side without tasting it first. We will likely be back here again before our week is out. read more

Thought this place was great. Super fresh ingredients and awesome salsa. Had the chicken tostada with medium salsa - salsa has that delicious homemade smokiness that adds great flavor. Also had a lime margarita and the queso. The Marg was on point as well - super fresh tasting and not too sweet. The queso was silky smooth with a tiny kick. This is a counter service taco joint with a very Californian vibe. You can custom order your tacos any way you like and watch as they're prepared right in front of you. The only bad point is the slow service. The food is fine as evidenced by the amount of people waiting patiently and the crowded dining room. This restaurant is so disorganized and has terrible customer service. They could have told us that they can't take customers when we walked in 25 minutes to close but they said it was fine. Once we ordered only one couple ordered after us. That couple got their food before the three groups that ordered before them. It was clear they were prioritizing eat in orders over take out because the employees wanted to leave earlier. That's not fair. If I ordered first, my food should be made first. In addition the food was completely flavorless. The cook in the back was rolling his eyes when his coworker asked for more beans/ingredients and it seemed like he was putting zero effort in. Finally, when we politely asked how much longer we would have to wait, the woman preparing orders snapped at us and yelled at us. I was extremely disappointed with the quality of food given the number of positive reviews. I ordered the mahi mahi tacos and what I received were two very small portions of poorly seasoned mahi mahi topped with huge mounds of mediocre jicama slaw and pico de gallo; the slaw and pico made it so that everything on my plate was soaking wet, and even after removing it, the tacos still weren't very good. The only reason they are getting two stars is because the tortillas and salsa were okay. read more
