I don't think I can count the number of times I visited Meyers Bageri (various locations) during my 4-day visit in Copenhagen. Let's just say I ate a LOT of pastries during my stay, and most of them from Meyers because they won my heart (or stomach). It all started with the raspberry bar (which I call Danish pop tart but it's so much better than a pop tart). It didn't have the white icing on it which I had seen at a bunch of other bakeries. But I actually prefer it that way because I usually find icing to be too sweet. I don't know how to describe this Danish pop tart, but I do know I will be dreaming about it for years after I return to Toronto. SO GOOD. So the next time I went back, I got the pastry with the poppy seeds on top, and butter and sugar inside. It was pretty good - very filling! I think I like there to be more flavours to my pastries though. Then, I went back the day after for a rhubarb pop tart and a rumball. I think I prefer the raspberry pop tart over the rhubarb one. And the rumball was yummy, and also very filling. I also got the iced latte (espresso, milk, vanilla syrup and ice) which reminded me of a tim hortons frappuccino but way more expensive =p Tasty though, and perfect for a hot day. This bakery is a part of the Meyer imperier. Meyer's trademark is Nordic quality, and the bakery at Jægersborggade is no different. My favourite thing is, that they bake at the facility. Some of the Meyer bread you can buy at other locations are made in a big central industrial bakery. Those breads are not at the normal high quality as you find at Jægersborggade. I recommend the Ølandshvedebrød and Kanelsnurre. I can't add the last star, because you often run out of bread early in the afternoon. Remember to go early, if you want to be sure to get your favourites. read more

This was another great find in Copenhagen. Also, Jægersborggade is an awesome street with amazing food, shops, and cafes. Not to be missed. I found Meyers Bageri via food blogs, restaurant reviews, Instagram, and travel sites. After a huge breakfast at Torvehallerne, I still had to try the kanelsnurrer (cinnamon rolls) I kept hearing about. These are so good. I wanted to have one every day I was there. It's basically a cinnamon swirl layered with Valrhona chocolate. It's like a braided cinnamon bun almost, but not quite rolled into a circle like you'd think a typical cinnamon bun is. The bread is also really good here - the sourdough is perfect. You can tell a lot of time and research went into the bread and pastries here. Also Claus Meyer opened a Meyers Bageri in New York City in Grand Central Station, so heads up to anyone going there to get a loaf and some cinnamon swirls. read more

Gosh, everything we got at Meyers was DELICIOUS. We were staying at an Airbnb around the corner, and I got up early to select a few pastries for breakfast. The pastries are all quite big, by the way -- I got (3) to share, and we barely worked out way through a full one. We ate leftover pastries again later after dinner! I highly recommend, especially if you're able to buy a variety and share. You don't want to miss this spot in Copenhagen. read more

Currently my favorite bakery on the planet. Went here pretty much once a week for the duration of my stay in copenhagen...and it was a 35 minute trip just to get here from where I was staying. The breads are definitely the draw, but if the rare chocolate chip cookies make an appearance you *must* snatch them up. Super small little bakery in Norrebro by the cemetery. I came here after recommendations from people from the US as well as my hostel and thought I would try it out. The staff is super friendly and helpful in finding your alternates if they are out of a particular bread or pastry. I got the cinnamon roll which I heard is one of their best items. It was sticky and warm and delicious. The best part is that it wasn't overwhelmingly sweet and I could eat it forever. I also got the raspberry tart (kinda looked like a poptart) to snack on while I was going around the city. It wasn't as good as the cinnamon roll, but it was a good mid day snack with a little sour tinge. Note that you can't sit at the bakery and eat, but instead have to go to the Coffee Collective across the street who I think they partner with. Definitely go there too because the coffee is really good! read more

Good grief. What an incredible place! My girlfriend stayed in an Airbnb on Hellebækgade on the other side of the park, and had a great time exploring the shops and eateries on Jægersborggade. Stopped by on our second day in Copenhagen, and just went nuts. I think I spent about $15 USD, but ended up with almost a dozen delicous scones (flaky, delicous ones that resemble croissants more than typical American scones), cinnamon buns, and so many other pastries whose names I can't recall. We stopped by at least every other day for breakfast, and were never disappointed. The staff there were super kind and friendly, and did not mind answering questions about my girlfriend's food allergies. So when I noticed that they expanded to New York City and opened a location at Grand Central Station, I was super excited. Stopped by a few months ago, and was disappointed. The prices were about thrice what we paid in Copenhagen, the scones were not nearly as delicious as the ones at the Jægersborggade location, and the folks working there weren't terribly friendly. Needless to say, I am eagerly awaiting our next trip to Denmark. read more

At first, I was not too fond of Meyers bread. Bread is not supposed to make me this conflicted. Their bread has awesome crust, but it was also gummy and glutenous inside with a texture strangely similar to Asian steamed rice cakes (which I love). As in, if you put a cut slice of bread on a serviette, the paper will sort of stick to the bread. However, after having Meyers bread every week for several months, I can say I'm pretty addicted. It has the perfect chew and is just very satisfying to eat. It also keeps very well, so even you don't finish the first day, it's still good the next day. read more

I wanted to get their 'Rye' bread; although, it's not the rye bread we are used to in the US. If you are familiar with the Trader Joe's 'European' bread, this is similar to that. I asked around and where I could get a good Rye bread to take home, this place was mentioned few times. I wish the bread was more 'nutty', but it was still yummy. Had many great pastries while in Copenhagen, but these definitely belong at the top of the list. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with any choice at this bakery. We also went across the street to Coffee Collective and sat outside to eat and drink our coffee. I've only been once but I chowed down on the best cinnamon roll I've ever had in my life on the curb outside the front door and enjoyed every single calorie of it. The Best Chocolate Cinnamon Rolls! We were here a couple years back, but I still remember and long for that delicious chocolate cinnamon roll. I should have gone back to get more, but we had sightseeing to do. The only disappointment to me was the brownie, it wasn't really a brownie like an American brownie.
