Visited this bakery so many times during my few weeks in Denmark. The prices were very good, and all their foods were vegan, and some even gluten free. I originally went for the frøsnapper, a danish poppy seed pastry, but every time I went they were out, so I finally opted for a cinnamon roll. The vegan foods in Hawaii are nothing special, so I was a little hesitant on buying something vegan, but at 15kr a piece, I figured why not. I am so glad I got it, because it's the best cinnamon roll I've ever had. The pastry was very chewy but flaky on the outside, and there was just the right amount of cinnamon. It was also very buttery (but of course it wasn't actual butter). The prices are much cheaper than the other bakeries that I went to, and I like these cinnamon rolls a lot more than the overly hyped Sankt Peders Bageri ones. read more

All the gluten free items seem to be made of rice flour, so do not expect to be abiding to a low carb/keto diet haha. There are usually a couple of sugar free, non-gluten items as well. There is a small section of gluten free and vegan groceries in the bakery as well so if you want vegan butter with your gluten free bread, this place is a fantastic one stop for it all! It can be hard to find gluten-free options in CPH (or anywhere in Denmark), so it's AMAZING to find a bakery with so. many. gluten-free. options. SO MANY - but remember to go early, because inventory goes fast. If you're new to Danish baked goods and want to try a classic, start with the snegle ('snail'), something like a cinnamon roll (albeit offered in other flavors, as well, like cardamom). I'd skip the GF focaccia, however, as I found it to be fairly bland and overtly tomato-pastey. (But if that's your jam, have at it!) In addition to the GF options, there are plenty of non-GF options (but again, go early for the best selection), as well as an assortment of gourmet grocery items and cooler beverages. read more

Once again focusing on Organic Grains from nearby farms and Milk or Eggs, when applicable, likewise allocated, those visiting Naturbageriet will at first be somewhat confused by signage delineating what is versus what is not allergy sensitive and although Danish is used exclusively on labels the staff is English-fluent and happy to make suggestions, the eventual order entailing six choices from which half were designed for the store's target audience. Too small to offer seats, though at such an early hour several outdoor tables are unoccupied and unwatched nearby, it was with goods spread out that passers-by starred or commented on the sheer volume of food, most items larger than the average and first bites of the filled Danish showing well, the exterior flaky with a lot of butter within and the Strawberry Jam restrained from being too sweet by a generous amount of toasted Walnuts. Intrigued by this version of the Poppyseed-studded Frosnapper, the Seeds folded into a soft and buttery braid with light sweetness that tasted much like Honey, it was largely in continuing to search for the city's best Cinnamon Roll that the Gluten Free version was passed up in favor of a traditional one, the results very impressive and on par with that at St. Peder's or Det Rene Brød. Intrigued to see so many cakes offered, at least three more in addition to those sampled available, those looking for something hearty and rustic should throw caution to the wind and taste the Vegan Banana Cake that sees unleavened Rye and mashed Banana soaked in Cider and topped in sliced Apples with plenty and Cinnamon and Anise notes throughout while those avoiding Wheat will find equal pleasure in a lighter than average Carrot Cake made with Pineapple Juice, ground Coconut, Nuts and Carrots, the Almond Cake another great choice that tastes a lot like Caramel Cake found throughout the Southern United States but made with far better ingredients. read more

Let me fill you in on two secrets: 1. Their rum cake (rumkugle) is absolutely devine. Seriously, you haven't lived until you've put your teeth in one of these. And to top it off, it is gluten free AND vegan! It's crazy, I know. 2. You think you know what good dark rye bread is - and then Naturbageriet comes along and turns your world upside down with their amazingly delicious rye bread that stays fresh for days. It is gluten free as well and sensitive to delicate tummies. The guy who owns the place is probably one of the nicest people you'll meet, and if you're lucky you'll find him behind the counter. I highly recommend the traditional Danish pastry that is covered in poppy seeds. I don't know what it is called, but it was ridiculously good. This is a cute little natural bakery right near the central train station and market. They had a nice range of gluten free baked goods and other natural food products. You can buy bread here and perhaps find a place to make you an open-face sandwich on top of it to join in the local food experience. My other favorite here was the pumpkin bread. Amazing! They changed the name to Landbageriet. This means the country side bakery. This vegan bakery is amazing and well worth your money. Most of the pastries range from 15-30 dkk which is pretty fair. The vegan pastries barely even taste vegan at all. There are some gluten free options too. I got the carrot cake looking one and my friend got some cookie with chocolate covered on it. The store front is a bit dull, so it's easy to walk right pass it but check out the window! So many baked goods lined up. It's perfect to just pick up a few slices of cake and head on over to the lakes to soak up some sun. I had the carrot cake (gulerodskage) and loved every crumb of it. I was actually thinking of going back to get a second piece! It's very moist and not too sweet. If I'm not mistaken there were tints of ginger spice in it as well as cinnamon. LOVE IT. Prices were inexpensive compared to other high end bakeries that don't make good carrot cake. So far this was my favorite slice of carrot cake. Also, what I love is that they don't spread frosting on top! My friend had the apple cake and this was tasty but I thought it was a bit dry. Apples had a good texture; not soggy or undercooked. I just returned from a trip to Copenhagen and went to this place approximately 4 times because they had a wide selection of freshly baked gluten free goods. I tried the banana muffin, brownies, cookies and I forget what else. The most divine thing I had was this cookie topped with a nut mixture that was half dipped in chocolate. I ate a few of those. :) Prices are really reasonable and oh the selection! My husband sampled the pastries with gluten and said they were good as well. read more

This place saves the day basically every day. Their hindbærsnitter is pretty much to die for, as is the spelt chocolate cake. They are the source of all the gluten free pastries you see around town in the health food stores, and there's a reason for that: they are AWESOME. I was super excited to visit this gluten free bakery as I had read good reviews of this place. Shop was cute and everything looked really good. It was 5pm when we visited so there were only few products left. I bought two brownies, one for me and one for my boyfriend. We left for our apartment to enjoy these goodies. My boyfriend was first one to taste his brownie and he spit it out. He said it tasted horrible. I tasted mine and he was right! The brownie was awful. It didn't taste like brownie at all. I have never eaten something so bad before. We were really disappointed and sadly, we threw them to carbage...so two stars because of that. We were in Copenhagen in July 2014, and this place is indeed still open. My partner is vegan, so I was very happy to find this bakery so I could show off Danish culinary mastery. :-) Conveniently located, we grabbed lunch/snacks from here on at least six occasions during a two week vacation. The ingredients are all listed, although only in Danish. My partner quickly picked up which words to avoid though: mælk, fløde, smør, æg, honning (my partner eats honey if local). Everything we got from there was excellent. Hindbærsnitter (raspberry cake with pink raspberry ising), Romkugler (chocolate rum balls), Thebirkes (a pastry with a sugary gooey centre), and much more. One of the days we were there, the baker had even experimented with replacing the milk in the creme of the Spandauer (my favourite, and the kind that is often imitated abroad as a "Danish Pastry") with coconut milk; although the creme was a bit more runny than in a normal one, it was absolutely amazing. Possibly the best Spandauer I've ever had. My partner said it was the best thing they had tried from that bakery. The bakery also has a few other goods. One day, we bought some vegan cheeze of a brand we didn't recognise; it wasn't good, it was basically just tofu... but that was the only disappointment that came out of our many visits. Located two blocks from Nørreport train/bus/metro station and one block from the big Torvehallerne public market, where there are lots of other food options, seating areas and fresh vegetable/fruit vendors.
