Interior
Bob B.

I so hate writing this review as I wanted this to be so much better. Interior is very nice with the rock influence displayed throughout. First out the hostess staff is absolutely incompetent . They had no command of the software that they were using to manage reservations and wait list. Arriving a little before peak dinner time we were told a 15 minute wait. After 30 minutes I asked how much longer it was going to be, the response was we are going to go walk the restaurant to see what tables are available. A manager came to the stand 5 minutes later and was able to seat us immediately to a table that was open the entire time. It was so chaotic that one of us received a different menu. Seems that they have a reduced menu currently but one of our party received the full menu with items that were not currently offered. I'm not sure how that even happens. Service, meh. Austin was very friendly and helpful but kitchen brought out 2 entrees about five to ten minutes before the other two entrees came to the table. Now to the food... ugh where to start. Onion rings, overly breaded and not crispy. Blackened chicken Caesar wrap. First mostly lettuce, very little chicken. Second the chicken was cold, so basically time trimmers chicken out of the freezer. Boneless wings. Absolutely no crisp to the breading. Once again seemed like Tyson frozen boneless wings. Burgers. The buns were extremely larger than the burger patty. The burger was over cooked on the outside. Asked for mustard when the burger was brought to the table but it did not show up until the last couple of bites. When it came time to pay the waiter disappeared. I know this is a new location but there were so many issues that I would not recommend this place to others. There are too many other downtown locations than to pay for high priced poor quality food.

I had very low expectations coming here, first because anything KISS does is usually relatively mediocre and secondly I've never had a good experience at a themed restaurant of any kind. I'm glad to say this place met all expectations. My cheese curds were basically chopped up mozzarella sticks, which in itself wasn't bad, but are they really cheese curds? Meh. And while the chicken sliders were ok, they were like half the size of what a slider should be. But the most disappointing part of the day was the service. After the initial drink, there was a 20 minute wait before any of the staff asked me if I wanted another. The one thing I'll be actually interested in is to see a band in their upstairs stage. That might get an upgrade in the score, but really, this isn't even good enough to be called a hard rock cafe rip off. There isn't much interesting memorabilia, not even KISS stuff. If you don't go, you aren't missing anything. The one nice thing was that at least nothing on the menu was overly overpriced.

This is a new restaurant in royal oak. The food and service were great! I love the ambiance and live music. I would come back

I love Rock and I love Brews so I was pretty sure I would like it here and I did! There is so much to see everywhere! Even the bathrooms were covered in rock and roll memorabilia. We were here to see a band we are fans of so we spent most of our time upstairs. We stuck to beer and we ordered some southwest egg rolls. They were too spicy for my palate but they were still good. There were plenty of friendly servers and bartenders so getting drinks was never an issue. Their menu was pretty basic bar food. Nothing exciting. Their prices didn't seem outrageous either which is nice because everything is crazy expensive right now.

Derrick just gave me the best raspberry shot I done ever had. His service is A1 too. Very approachable and very easy going

So I cannot comment on the food because my friends and I just went here for drinks before going to another location. However I can say the vibes were amazing, the difference in the floors was awesome and gave Nashville vibes. Finally the prices and service was great as well

Rock and Brews was the perfect place to get the night going in Royal Oak. The band was good and the drinks were super cheap. With good music and good drinks, what could go wrong? The location is perfect for exploring Royal Oak. The bartenders were nice, however, I did not order any food.

Visited Rock and Brews for a late lunch on Saturday where we experience excellent service, great food and drinks! Our server was super attentive, making sure we were happy with our food and had water. He did not rush us to order or to pay, which was nice! I wish I got his name to include it, he was really great! I enjoyed a delicious cocktail that was not too sweet and perfectly spicy (spicy watermelon margarita). I also really enjoyed the bbq chicken salad. There was a lot of chicken and the salad was huge! Our table enjoys the southwest egg rolls which came with 6 pieces, just enough for our party. Everyone seemed to really enjoy their meals. The decor is super cool! Tons of rock posters and memorabilia around. Posters on the ceiling and drum kits on the walls. Tons of TVs to play all the sports. Will definitely go back, especially to check out the second floor for live music, and the rooftop once it's warm enough.

This is the former hopcat and former woody's. Basically, they painted the walls after hopcat and hung new stuff there and off the ceiling. They also cut back on the beer taps. Food was really good, staff were great. A little pricey, but they have a great happy hour. It is a music type theme, the staff wear concert style lanyards as nametags. The menus look like old timey record jackets, they made part of the barback look like concert speakers...

We've been to so many iterations of restaurants in this building, we felt that we had to try the latest. It was a beautiful day so we decided to sit on the roof deck. Bena was our server and she was an absolute delight. Once we saw the giant pretzel on the menu, we knew we had to try it. We loved the presentation, but be warned, the word "giant" in the name is no joke. I followed that with the BBQ chicken salad, which was great. My wife is a pulled pork lover and she really enjoyed the version served here.

Rock & Brew just opened up in Royal Oak and what a fun place! They kept restaurant downstairs, second floor is live music - big bar and a few tables to get food; third floor is a partially covered rooftop bar. Staff was super nice! I came to listen to the band, will need to come back for food. Loved the live music lounge - great decor! Tried big pretzel- perfect bar food.

Surprisingly, we went for happy hour to check out the specials and just get a taste of the vibe. The staff was more than inviting, very friendly and very helpful. This place is awesome just to walk around and take a look at the way it was decorated. I've been through all of the transitions of this building and this by far is the best. From the rooftop to the first floor it is top notch. We ordered the sliders, and the beef that they use is fresh and delicious. They know how to make a slider for sure crispy edges not too much stuff on the bun just enough to enjoy and want more. The rooftop is it a great space, Jason was the bartender up there and he was outstanding. Introduced himself by name asked our names (rare these days by younger people), he was inviting an entertaining. He definitely made us want to come back sit upstairs and have a cocktail.

If you love music this is the place to go. Weekly concerts and yummy food. They bring the food out fresh from the grills while it is nice and hot!! They are currently creating an outside area on the street but don't let that discourage you. Just park in the Center street. Parking structure and go in the back door. Parking structure is free for the first 2 hours. We come here about 2 times a week. Happy Hour every day!!

It sadness me to write this review. I really enjoy the atmosphere and camaraderie at trivia night…read moreat MBTB. But I am outraged by new ownership that apparently changed over on Monday. We went for trivia and expected it to be the same as always, unfortunately it was not. They erased our points we've earned for a free glass, these are no longer honored. The menu has significantly changed: flights are $2-$3 more, no longer include flight bites, an upcharge for premium pours (which is understandable), no longer has a $5 bottle credit, and each glass is now $3-$5 more per pour. Why did you have to make every last item on the menu more expensive? I understand that the economy and inflation contribute to these things, but to increase the price and get less on everything throughout the menu plus not honor points earned for a free glass is a slap in the face. I'm just crushed at the blatant disrespect for the regulars that come every week for trivia or other events, no warning. Our trivia night just got a whole lot more expensive and we will be looking at other locations with more reasonably priced beverages and snacks. I hope they still allow us to bring in our own food, they did this week but who knows if that will also change. The staff seemed stressed telling us the new rules as well.

The food options are equal to speakeasy bar bites like pretzels, nuts, cheese and chocolate. We got the charcuterie board and it was okay. My daughter didn't care for the pasta as it tasted very strongly of garlic, but the texture was amazing and the portion size was filling. The pizza was so good!! It was just the right amount of crispy, chewy, cheesy, and saucy. The chopped salad was the hit of the night and plenty big enough to share. The way our table was set up was not convenient, we were by the wall with one entrance point, so the people on the booth side, had a long way to slide in and out with 6 people to a side. The restaurant was not busy and the service was slow and inattentive. Sometimes it seems that when the tip is included for a large group, the server doesn't feel the need to exert any effort. For the most part, everyone enjoyed their food. The lobster avocado toast was the standout. I had the farmers veggie skillet and it was just ok: Eggs were barely cooked and the potatoes were over cooked and dry. I did like the cheesy veggies. As a final note, any restaurant that can't split a check in our day and age, loses points for me.

Parking was no problem as I was lucky to find metered parking just steps away from the front door. I walked in immediately taken with the charming decor and darkly lit romantic vibes, which is my favorite esthetic for any restaurant. The seating at the bar was yummy, thick comfy seats. The bartender greeted me warmly. He was cool and I hate that I didn't ask his name. He was attentive and masterful with the spirits. He asked if it was my first time, which it was, and since so, made me a tasty "welcome" drink with gin that was fantastic. I also ordered "the panty snatcher" a concoction of vodka, grapefruit, St Germain, rose water and orange. It was amazing. I will definitely be back for drinks. The drink menu is quite tempting. I had the Corn, Corn, Corn dish, which is polenta and corn kernels topped with popcorn. Yes, super unique and interesting. I had to try it. The popcorn was so light and flavorful straight out of the kitchen, but became chewy as it sat atop the piping hot polenta. I really enjoyed it however. Next time I'll eat all the popcorn first. I also had lobster dumplings, which was good but the dish wasn't cooked through. The filling wasn't hot and the pasta was very under on some bites. I was the first customer for the evening, so I can forgive that faux pas. I really enjoyed myself and I will return time and time again to try everything. The menu offers many things I love. Great concept. Cool vibes.

The overall consensus though was that everything tasted fantastic. Coming from the Bay Area, I have high expectations when it comes to Asian food, so I was pleasantly surprised by how great the pad thai tasted. The clam chowder was creamy and delightful. The crab cakes were the perfect size and not teeny tiny. The lamb ragu was very well done also and my husband is a big fan of lamb so he really enjoyed his meal.
