This restaurant definitely feels new(er.) We got there at 5pm on a Tuesday night and it was empty. Nobody else there eating at all. We were seated right away (obviously) and the food and drinks were all brought to the table pretty fast, as you might imagine. There wasn't any live music Admittedly, we did not get the full Rock & Brews experience since we came in on a Tuesday afternoon. I'm ok with that. The food was good, and I'd return just for that. My main knock on this experience was the filthy air vent right above our table. I can only imagine how much of those dust recirculates back into the restaurant (and onto people's food.) A new restaurant should start clean and be kept clean. One last word of warning, construction in the area is brutal and has absolutely impacted parking if you want to go to Rock & Brews. Leave yourself extra time to find a spot and walk over. read more

I so hate writing this review as I wanted this to be so much better. Interior is very nice with the rock influence displayed throughout. First out the hostess staff is absolutely incompetent . They had no command of the software that they were using to manage reservations and wait list. Arriving a little before peak dinner time we were told a 15 minute wait. After 30 minutes I asked how much longer it was going to be, the response was we are going to go walk the restaurant to see what tables are available. A manager came to the stand 5 minutes later and was able to seat us immediately to a table that was open the entire time. It was so chaotic that one of us received a different menu. Seems that they have a reduced menu currently but one of our party received the full menu with items that were not currently offered. I'm not sure how that even happens. Service, meh. Austin was very friendly and helpful but kitchen brought out 2 entrees about five to ten minutes before the other two entrees came to the table. Now to the food... ugh where to start. Onion rings, overly breaded and not crispy. Blackened chicken Caesar wrap. First mostly lettuce, very little chicken. Second the chicken was cold, so basically time trimmers chicken out of the freezer. Boneless wings. Absolutely no crisp to the breading. Once again seemed like Tyson frozen boneless wings. Burgers. The buns were extremely larger than the burger patty. The burger was over cooked on the outside. Asked for mustard when the burger was brought to the table but it did not show up until the last couple of bites. When it came time to pay the waiter disappeared. I know this is a new location but there were so many issues that I would not recommend this place to others. There are too many other downtown locations than to pay for high priced poor quality food. read more

I had very low expectations coming here, first because anything KISS does is usually relatively mediocre and secondly I've never had a good experience at a themed restaurant of any kind. I'm glad to say this place met all expectations. My cheese curds were basically chopped up mozzarella sticks, which in itself wasn't bad, but are they really cheese curds? Meh. And while the chicken sliders were ok, they were like half the size of what a slider should be. But the most disappointing part of the day was the service. After the initial drink, there was a 20 minute wait before any of the staff asked me if I wanted another. The one thing I'll be actually interested in is to see a band in their upstairs stage. That might get an upgrade in the score, but really, this isn't even good enough to be called a hard rock cafe rip off. There isn't much interesting memorabilia, not even KISS stuff. If you don't go, you aren't missing anything. The one nice thing was that at least nothing on the menu was overly overpriced. read more

I love Rock and I love Brews so I was pretty sure I would like it here and I did! There is so much to see everywhere! Even the bathrooms were covered in rock and roll memorabilia. We were here to see a band we are fans of so we spent most of our time upstairs. We stuck to beer and we ordered some southwest egg rolls. They were too spicy for my palate but they were still good. There were plenty of friendly servers and bartenders so getting drinks was never an issue. Their menu was pretty basic bar food. Nothing exciting. Visited Rock and Brews for a late lunch on Saturday where we experience excellent service, great food and drinks! Our server was super attentive, making sure we were happy with our food and had water. He did not rush us to order or to pay, which was nice! I wish I got his name to include it, he was really great! I enjoyed a delicious cocktail that was not too sweet and perfectly spicy (spicy watermelon margarita). I also really enjoyed the bbq chicken salad. There was a lot of chicken and the salad was huge! Our table enjoys the southwest egg rolls which came with 6 pieces, just enough for our party. Everyone seemed to really enjoy their meals. The decor is super cool! Tons of rock posters and memorabilia around. Posters on the ceiling and drum kits on the walls. Tons of TVs to play all the sports. This is the former hopcat and former woody's. Basically, they painted the walls after hopcat and hung new stuff there and off the ceiling. They also cut back on the beer taps. We've been to so many iterations of restaurants in this building, we felt that we had to try the latest. It was a beautiful day so we decided to sit on the roof deck. Bena was our server and she was an absolute delight. Once we saw the giant pretzel on the menu, we knew we had to try it. Surprisingly, we went for happy hour to check out the specials and just get a taste of the vibe. The staff was more than inviting, very friendly and very helpful. This place is awesome just to walk around and take a look at the way it was decorated. I've been through all of the transitions of this building and this by far is the best. From the rooftop to the first floor it is top notch. We ordered the sliders, and the beef that they use is fresh and delicious. They know how to make a slider for sure crispy edges not too much stuff on the bun just enough to enjoy and want more. The rooftop is it a great space, Jason was the bartender up there and he was outstanding. I had a little bit of time today so I stopped in to check out all the hype about Rock & Brews. It was such a fun vibe from the moment I walked in. I really enjoyed the decor and checking out all the fun stuff! I am happy to see how they renovated the space. The second floor will have live bands and the third floor will be for a DJ. The menus are great with an interesting cocktail menu and food. They even have a Happy Hour which I was excited to see. I had a coconut mojito and strawberry margarita...both delish! I also tried the HUGE pretzels with beer cheese and spicy mustard. The beer cheese had sautéed onions on top...OMG...so good! We ate with another couple to try the new place. Total disappointment. Food was below average for everybody including appetizers. One meal came out ten minutes after first three. Ridiculous. Then we toured the place to find out they left out two of Detroits biggest rock stars, Kid Rock & Ted Nugent. But....every wall had left wing activists Jack White and Madonna represented. Management is obviously putting politics over common sense. Maybe focus more on the food and less on activism. read more

This has to be the coolest space in Royal Oak. The rooftop brings back old Woody's vibes from the 90's. The food is also very good. We tried the giant pretzel, fish and chips, pot pie and purple raindrops donuts. Very friendly and attentive service. The pot pie was pretty exceptional but the Purple Raindrops were just amazing! The decor is extremely cool and I love the fact that it's localized to long lost Detroit area venues that I remember fondly. Will definitely have to come back to see a band. read more

If you love music this is the place to go. Weekly concerts and yummy food. They bring the food out fresh from the grills while it is nice and hot!! They are currently creating an outside area on the street but don't let that discourage you. Just park in the Center street. Parking structure and go in the back door. Parking structure is free for the first 2 hours. We come here about 2 times a week. Happy Hour every day!! read more

This place is a total gimic as expected. I feel like there is definitely a crowd of suburban chain loving people who might dig it,but for me it's a place I never need to return. The food was not good. I would compare it to what one would expect from an Applebee's with most of the cooking done by a microwave. I was charged $3 extra for a burger with a lettuce bun that came out as just a burger without the bun and one wilted piece of lettuce. The service was adequate I definitely could tell they were understaffed. As for the upstairs music venue the sound was awful, the beers were warm and you could taste the resentment in the bartenders for having to be subjective to shitty music on repeat. The very top upstairs bar smelled like pure vomit and piss it was truly awful. read more

Stopped in for an (unexpected) early dinner. This place just tugs at the Rock & Roll heartstrings from the moment you walk in!! We were seated immediately upon entry and our waitress recommended an IPA - which was really good!! I ordered the Big Bang shrimp tacos and they did not disappoint!! Before our food came out, our waitress told us to go walk around and check the place out - which we did!! The 2nd floor is where they have bands play. They went All Out on the decorations there!! Outstanding!! The 3rd floor was outdoor seating. Every staff member approach us with the question 'Did you see ...' The staffs excitement to work in this cool place was so evident and it made our visit that much more exciting!! We are looking forward to coming back to hear a band in the near future!! Nothing more than a sports bar with a Rock & Roll look & inflated prices. Standard fare burgers, wings, sandwiches & pizza. Definitely no WOW factor on any of the good. If you like spicy, many options have habanero or other spicy condiments. Somewhat busy but I just don't understand when I'm only drinking water my glass was never refilled. What an awesome place! We had such a great experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious, the service was excellent and the atmosphere and vibe were fantastic! We enjoyed our meal on the rooftop which was such a fun experience. The restaurant has 3 floors and each one has its own personality. The second floor features live musical bands several nights a week and the entire floor is beautifully decorated with incredible stained glass images of music icons on the walls and ceilings. Every floor also has a fabulous bar with a great selection of beers and liquors. We took advantage of the daily Happy Hour from 3-6PM and tried the Big Bang Shrimp and Chicken Pot Pie. Both were outstanding. The place has everything, great food, great drinks, great music, beautiful decor and wonderful service. You can tell a lot of thought and passion went into creating the whole experience. I will definitely be back and highly recommend checking this place out. It's awesome! read more

I stopped into Rock & Brews in Royal Oak this evening for their soft opening, and wow--this place is absolutely amazing. From the moment you walk in, the décor grabs you. The vibe is really, really cool, especially upstairs on the second floor. You can already tell this is going to be a go‑to spot, and knowing they'll soon be hosting live bands makes it even better. The food was fantastic across the board. I ordered the South X Southwest egg roll, which was packed with flavor and easily a standout. I also had the smashburger with fries, cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. We shared the steak nachos as well, and they did not disappoint. On top of all that, the service was top‑notch. Ashley was amazing and took very good care of us--attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. Great atmosphere, incredible food, and outstanding service, especially for a soft opening. The service was fine however the kitchen was way behind in getting dishes out. We came to see a band at 7:00 and had to wait over 40 minutes for our food to arrive. Once it arrived portions in some cases works exceedingly small. We were unable to see the first band we had hoped to see because the music is on the second floor food is served on the first floor and you need an elevator to get to the second floor so we didn't hear the band except for quick dash up to the second floor. We got to see the second band but the sound quality was terrible. Spoke to the sound man about it and he said it's the room and there's nothing he could do. For a rock bar put together by Gene Simmons of the band kiss you would think that sound quality would be an issue. Won't be going back to this place anytime soon. read more

I ordered a BBQ chicken salad & was eating it when I realized there was no chicken in it. Our server/bartender got me a side of the chicken and while I was waiting for it, I felt something hard while I was chewing the salad. I pulled out a plastic tip to a squeeze bottle from my mouth (what I can assume). Our server grabbed the salad and I was able to get a pretzel instead (safe bet). The pretzel was really good and came out cute. He didn't charge me at all for my food which was nice. Overall really cute place inside. My boyfriend and I stopped in during what should've been a slower time (maybe 8-10 tables total), so we were expecting a relaxed, enjoyable experience, but that's not what we got. Our server wasn't very friendly from the start, which set the tone. After placing our order, we ended up waiting about 45 minutes for our food. The only update we got was around the 30-minute mark, and even then it felt like we had to prompt for it. When it came time to pay via table side card reader I asked for a text receipt. The waiter tapped no receipt and walked away. Overall, the service really missed the mark, especially considering how slow it was. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be back.
