First and LAST time at Mezcals. We went there for the first time and just ordered some appetizers. Waiter asked if we wanted all at once or as they were ready. We said as it was ready. We got 1 of the 5 appetizers within a long 10 minutes. Then nothing for 30 mins. We were asked if we wanted more chips as we waited... We replied yes but we never got chips.. I tried getting the waiters attention 3 times but.... *sigh* A guy that sat down AFTER we ordered got his whole meal before we got our appetizers. Also, the super nachos come with chorizo AND steak for an extra $5 but they charged me $7 and would not relent even after I showed them on the menu where it says $5 extra. The female manager looked like she couldn't be bothered coming to the table to resolve. Paid for the 1 appetizer we actually got and left. NEVER again. read more

New to Staten Island looking for a Mexican place. I liked the one in bayridge so thought I'd give it a try. I. Ordered online, they charged me items NOT ordered and when I showed them my order they said I was wrong. I left and then compared the order with my receipt only to find the charges me for items I didn't order and they didn't give me. I went back and they again told me I was wrong. Eventually I got a refund but not without issue. The food was just ok and it looks like a cute restaurant but I won't go back. read more

Reminds me of a much better burrito bar with more food options. Very small and people will wait for a table--that means something ya know. My best friend and I sat on the outdoor patio which is covered and heated as well. Service was great. Food was great as well. Tacos here were good. I ordered the Fajitas de Carne--delish. Wish the tables were a bit bigger just to accommodate the large plates. Parking sucks here, but park on Mann Ave and cut through the 7/11 to get to the restaurant. I'd come back for sure. read more

Perfect service. Ordered nachos with chorizo- husband loves nachos but it's not my fave. The guacamole on it was delicious. Two other appetizers, huge!, stuffed jalapeños with shrimp in cream sauce and shrimp Diablo-- not as spicy s as I thought it would be. The salsa that comes with the chips was spicier and awesome! But they charged extra for some more salsa. I hate that kind of "nickel and diming" Coconut margarita was delicious but weak. This is really funning today 7/24/23 We are here at Mezcals Mexican on Bradley Ave Staten Island with our friends. The food was delicious. I've been coming here for over 10 years and I will never be back. I went in tonight and was ignored by the tall female manager when i asked for a pitcher of Sangriá. I was told i had to wait for the rest of my party to arrive and she rolled her eyes. I have done this before with other servers and they always got my drinks immediately. She also made rude comments the last time after she messed up our order and brought us the wrong smoothie. If this restaurant wants any success she should not be dealing with any customers. They have also decreased their portion size on fajitas and there was barely any chicken last time I got them. They are going downhill, look how many 1 reviews on the last few pages. My wife and I ate there 3 or 4 times, and every time something was wrong with order's. The most annoying part was the rice; it was always under cooked/raw. It was annoying cause you had to wait for a new order to be prepared, and that was an additional 15 to 20 minutes. So tonight, since we haven't been for some time now and raining as well, we decided to order takeout, our favorite dish, Chapala Rice it comes with usually 6 sizeable shrimps and 4 scallops'. WARNING: So usually, they serve you plenty of rice and the accompanied shrimp and scallops. Well guess what, the rice was worse this time around, moist but raw, and not very much of it, very hard to chew. The typical serving from last year, the rice was enough at times for 2, tonight it was just enough for 1, OK, now the shrimps, we received only 4 over cooked and only 3 scallops undercooked. Last year this dish cost $18 with beans, avocado, salsa and chips, tonight we added a small chicken soup, the BILL $37. Usually I call them and complain, in lieu of complaining I decided to WARN the public to eat elsewhere. I really don't appreciate having to pay more for less, so my wife and I decided to Abandon MEZCALS for good. NO me gusta mas. read more

I never write bad reviews but this was really disappointing. I wanted to take my mom out to dinner as we've been stressed because my father has been in the hospital for three weeks she wanted Mexican so we decided to try Mezcals. When we got there, there were no two tops so the hostess took our name as we wanted to sit outside. We went to the car to wait which was right in front. She called so we went right over. There was another couple that got there way after us that she asked if they wanted to sit outside so they got our table. Then she sat us inside right next to the door and said it would be 25 minutes if we wanted to sit outside. I said "weren't we here before them" and she said yes but she asked them first. It was a really uncomfortable table and dampened our night so we left. I've worked in some super high end restaurants and this is not good service. It was almost as if she knew them and gave them our table. Never again. read more

Uggh Mezcal where do I start? Okay so I really liked the whole decor and outdoor vibe. The place is very small and only has room for a certain amount of people. Located and hidden in Staten Island I suppose the best way to hear about this place is through word of mouth. Which is how I heard about it. I had such high hopes for Mezcal especially since Mexican food is at the top of my list. We ordered some pretty cool "titled"plates. However, The mussels had no taste, they did have an after taste of the ocean. Uggh I hate that. They had no guacamole! What??? That alone threw me for a loop. Avocados are in season now please buy some! We ordered Enchilladas which were decent and had some flavor. It's so disappointing because They have a pretty extensive menu which leads me to believe they specialize in these dishes. However, it seems as if they invested in a menu but not a chef. Overall the food was tasteless, SO Mezcal is hidden más that's where they will remain. Sorry Mezcal I had such high hopes. Maybe keep your menu simple so the expectations are not that great. read more

While many other restaurants told us their limited outdoor dining areas were full on a Friday night, Mezcal's welcomed us in to their spacious, heated outdoor dining space furnished with unique and authentic Mexican decor. For starters we had the tapatios - mushrooms stuffed with shrimp in a spicy creamy sauce. Delicious is an understatement. It was perfectly cooked and the portion was big enough for two to share. Definitely ordering again Jalapeño margaritas were incredible. They were refreshing and freshly made - none of the mix out of a packet. Authentic and delicious. I had the manteca pork which came with rice and beans. It was another huge portion, and flavored richly throughout the entire dish. The food had an authentic, home style feel to it. I had pork in Adobe sauce with a Margarita. The pork was overdone and got cold before I could finish chewing it. The margarita was OK, packed a punch and had a very pretty glass but wasn't refreshing. $30 for one person.. It was okay but I wouldn't go again. Also the parking situation is FUBAR.. I was asked to move my car, twice, during my stay. At first I was going to get takeout, because I was blocking someone in. Then I was persuaded to move my car so I could sit and enjoy myself, which sounded good.. Except I blocked in another person who asked me to move in the middle of my meal. If they reserved the inside row for staff only maybe that would help? Idk. read more

The wife and I came to Mezcal's earlier today for lunch. There are not many Mexican places to dine at that are not a chain in this area. They opened about 8 years ago. What piqued my interest was another establishment about a week ago in the same little strip mall. At that time I took a peek in and decided I needed to try it soon. For an appetizer we shared the Chori-Nachos. It was not a huge order but just enough to whet your appetite and bringing some heat with plenty of jalapeño. The Mrs. ordered off the appetizer menu having the Papanita. Which was a flour tortilla quesadilla stuffed with shrimp, spinach, jalapeños and melted cheese it was covered with a tomatillo sauce. I went with the number one combo which consisted of a beef taco, chicken enchilada and chicken tostada. It was served with a large plate of refried beans and rice. The service was very good though the prices were a little steep for Staten Island. Lunch was $45. But, we didn't leave hungry and still had something to bring home. Though at first glance at the menu $8 may seem a little expensive for a margarita it is worth it. Served in a large glass and definitely has a kick. It is a charming little place. Looks can be deceiving when you first walk in but the outdoor patio teleports you to a little cantina in Mexico, or perhaps Arizona. There are plenty of plants and artwork on the walls and Mexican music playing in the background. If it was Manhattan I'd go 4 stars. read more

Disappointing food for takeout. The quesadilla was soggy and greasy and wasn't prepared like a a quesadilla at all ! There was barely any chicken filling either. The taco salad was on a greasy taco shell with rubbery steak. The enchiladas' chicken filling was dry and flavorless. The order or rice and beans was a tiny scoop of rice with a small side of beans. We have dined here more often than at any other restaurant on Staten Island. The Mocambo is excellent. The Carnitas are also good and zesty. My favorite is the Mole Poblano. The Guacamole is mild but good. The seafood has a fresh taste. Their combo platters are great tasting and the portions on most their dishes are filling. Very Friendly staff. Relatively quick service. I've been here twice before -- once with friends and once with families. This is hands down the best Mexican spot on the island. It's family owned and the service is amazing.
