    Chorizo & Steak for $5

First and LAST time at Mezcals. We went there for the first time and just ordered some appetizers. Waiter asked if we wanted all at once or as they were ready. We said as it was ready. We got 1 of the 5 appetizers within a long 10 minutes. Then nothing for 30 mins. We were asked if we wanted more chips as we waited... We replied yes but we never got chips.. I tried getting the waiters attention 3 times but.... *sigh* A guy that sat down AFTER we ordered got his whole meal before we got our appetizers. Also, the super nachos come with chorizo AND steak for an extra $5 but they charged me $7 and would not relent even after I showed them on the menu where it says $5 extra. The female manager looked like she couldn't be bothered coming to the table to resolve. Paid for the 1 appetizer we actually got and left. NEVER again.

Bombalaguera dish. Looks better than it taste.

Uggh Mezcal where do I start? Okay so I really liked the whole decor and outdoor vibe. The place is very small and only has room for a certain amount of people. Located and hidden in Staten Island I suppose the best way to hear about this place is through word of mouth. Which is how I heard about it. I had such high hopes for Mezcal especially since Mexican food is at the top of my list. We ordered some pretty cool "titled"plates. However, The mussels had no taste, they did have an after taste of the ocean. Uggh I hate that. They had no guacamole! What??? That alone threw me for a loop. Avocados are in season now please buy some! We ordered Enchilladas which were decent and had some flavor. It's so disappointing because They have a pretty extensive menu which leads me to believe they specialize in these dishes. However, it seems as if they invested in a menu but not a chef. Overall the food was tasteless, SO Mezcal is hidden más that's where they will remain. Sorry Mezcal I had such high hopes. Maybe keep your menu simple so the expectations are not that great.

Wow this small restaurant has big flavor! The BEST food and drinks I've ever had- they are consistently excellent- I've gone here for years and never been disappointed! Parking is tough that's the only complaint- so take car service or park a block or 2 away and walk - It is soo worth it !

An Unforgettable Quesabirria Experience at Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine!…read more Finding truly exceptional Mexican food can sometimes feel like a quest, but my visit to Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine delivered in a big way, specifically with their phenomenal Quesabirria. From the moment it arrived, I had a feeling it would be special, and I was not disappointed. The quesabirria itself was a masterpiece of flavor and texture. It was immediately clear that freshness was a priority here. The tortilla was perfectly crisped, providing a satisfying base for the generous filling inside. But the real star was the birria steak - it was incredibly tender, bursting with juice, and packed with a deep, savory taste that spoke of careful preparation and quality ingredients. Each bite was simply delicious. What truly elevated the dish, however, were the thoughtful details. The fresh cilantro wasn't just sprinkled on; it added a vibrant, aromatic quality and a necessary burst of freshness that cut through the richness of the meat and cheese beautifully, enhancing the overall taste profile significantly. And then there was the consumé. Oh, that consumé! Calling it 'out of this world' is almost an understatement. It was served steaming hot, a rich, dark broth brimming with complex flavors. It was savory, comforting, and utterly addictive. Seriously, it was so incredibly delicious and satisfying on its own that I could have happily just sipped it straight from the cup. Dipping the flavorful quesabirria into that liquid gold created a perfect harmony - a truly memorable culinary moment. It's been a little while since I had the chance to visit Maya's Cafe, but the memory of that meal has genuinely stayed with me. I find myself actively craving that specific combination of flavors and textures again. While I haven't managed to get back just yet, I am truly looking forward to my next visit, and you can bet I'll be ordering the quesabirria again. If you appreciate authentic Mexican cuisine made with care, or if you're on the hunt for truly outstanding quesabirria, I wholeheartedly recommend making a trip to Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine. It was a fantastic experience, driven by that incredibly tasty and well-executed dish. You won't regret it!

Taco shells were fresh corn Shells with I think grilled melted cheese. The chicken and beef in the tacos were seasoned well with fresh cilantro and lime wedges squeeze on it. Dipping the tacos in the birrea gravy was heaven! The flan was excellent, not overly sweet and delicious. And the fresh guacamole was also excellent with homemade chips, too. I'm so happy Westerleigh has a great Mexican restaurant nearby!

The fries and chorizo nachos were the best for us! Food: 1$ off taco tuesday! Came with 7 people. Ordered an al pastor, beef taco, and empanada, chorizo nachos, steak nachos and fries. The table had a small portion of chips when we sat down that was probably a small cup size for the 7 people we had. - the tacos were on 6" corn tortillas and doubled which was nice but it just didnt have that salso or kick. I found myself adding salt and lotta hot sauce. The empanada was not hot but im not sure if its cause they were waiting to bring everything out for our table. I really liked the fries and the chorizo nachos more than anything! Service: the two girls were really so kind and helpful. Attentive and helped the party out a lot! Inside: nice cozy environment, bar is right there and theres two restrooms. Playing pop music with some tvs around. Had a group of 7 and was seated quickly on a Taco Tuesday!

Everything was made fresh and had great flavors . The serving size is perfect if you want to share or not it's not to much . The experience was very pleasant, and service was quick (I paid and I had a few minutes to go across the street to the Mexican bakery to get two cream puffs for a $1 while they make my tacos) while they made my food. I stopped by at around 11am and the place was empty but there are plenty of seats available in the taqueria with lots of Mexican drinks options. The ambiance was quiet. I asked for two cacti tacos, also known as the Taco Azteca at this taqueria as recommended by the other Yelpers. I started with two because I heard that their tacos run big. These tacos were enormous and I was full eating after just one taco and saved the other one for an afternoon snack!! They also give you a generous cup of green sauce, which is one of my favorites! Because normally when getting a cactus taco in the other boroughs, they only give you a straight vegetarian taco only, but I was very surprised it came with a big chunk of meats. For $10-12 for two big giant tacos, I feel like I am getting fed very well. I'll definitely be back again to try their lamb/goat soup as recommended by the other Yelpers.
